President Lyndon B. Johnson
New president Lyndon B. Johnson acquired a troublesome circumstance in Vietnam, as the South
Vietnamese government was in shambles and the Viet Cong was making substantial additions in
provincial ranges of the South. Despite the fact that Johnson charged himself as an intense hostile to
Communist, he vowed to respect Kennedy s constrained troop duties in Vietnam. In reality, Johnson
took care of the Vietnam circumstance respectably amid the early piece of his term, endeavoring to
proceed with Kennedy s projects without drastically heightening the war.
New Strategies
Johnson made a few changes in U.S. military authority. Despite the fact that Robert S. McNamara
stayed as secretary of guard, General Earle G. Wheeler turned into the new executive of the Joint
Chiefs of Staff. General William C. Westmoreland was instated as authority of the MACV, supplanting
past administrator General Paul Harkins, by then alluded to as General Blimp for his propensity to
swell the ARVN s victories.
Westmoreland, sickened with the debasement and ineptitude of the ARVN, pushed for 200,000
American ground troops. In the interim, National Security Advisor McGeorge Bundy contended for
expanded besieging of focuses in North Vietnam, particularly processing plants. McNamara, an
understudy of amusement hypothesis, pushed a one good turn deserves another strategy against North
Vietnam ( U.S. powers would strike Hanoi if Viet Cong went in all out attack mode in South Vietnam)

Response To Public Transportation Is The Way To Go
The author supports his claim very well in this article, Public Transportation is the Way To Go . In this
text, Public Transportation is the Way To Go the author uses a lot of great and important points. Three
supporting details are, one he talks about fuel emissions and protecting from the effects of them. He
also talks about the government spending on oil from foreign countries. It would also save time by
reducing traffic. These three things were shown clearly throughout the entire article, Public
Transportation is the Way to Go ,and support his claim very well. One way the author supports his
claim is one how he talks about saving fuel emissions. In the text Public Transportation is the Way To

Clifford Geertz Religion As A Cultural System Summary
Clifford Geertz, in his essay Religion as a Cultural System , presents what he considers to be the
definition of religion. According to him, religion is about symbols and people use these symbols as a
guide for their view of the world and how they should behave in that world. Religion, states Geertz is
a system of symbols which acts to establish powerful, pervasive, and long lasting moods and
motivations in men by formulating conceptions of a general order of existence and clothing these
conceptions with such an aura of factuality that the moods and motivations seem uniquely realistic
(Geertz, The Interpretation of Cultures, page 90). What he is trying to do in this essay is provide the
reader with a way of understanding religion by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He distinguishes between intrinsic and extrinsic sources of information. The intrinsic are those which
are genetically programmed and are highly generalized . For this reason the extrinsic sources of
information are very important. They have a very important function which is to provide a model for
how we should live. He believes that the symbols of a religious nature, found extrinsic to us, help us
know how to see the world and how we should be within the world (Churnus). Model of reality and a
model for acting well
Secondly, these symbols establish powerful and long lasting moods and motivations. This means that
the symbols, such as the sweat lodge ceremony practiced by many Plains Indians or the marriage
ceremony of Christianity and many other religions, are what motivate people and are also that which
helps to establish peoples states of being. The symbols express the world s climate and shape it
(Geertz, page ). Symbols are powerful because they encourage people, those who worship the symbol,
into certain moods (Geertz). This means that, given certain situations where a symbol might be present
or act as a motivator, the person might feel a certain way or be motivated to act in a certain manner.
These, states Geertz are the two different dispositions which might be induced (page ). Motivations,

Reviews of the Television Version of the Sound of Music Essay
First things first the television show Sound Of Music that was broadcasted in December 5th 2013 and
was broadcasted on national televison channel called NBC the producers name was Craig Zadan and
Neil Meron , the special had a cool cast such as a Carrie Underwood who stared in this show as Maria
von Trapp. It was performed and televised live all over the country from a film studio in Bethpage ,
New York. The history of the show was very interesting so far and how they had famous actors such
as Carrie Underwood , although there was criticism directly to Carrie Underwood who was casting in
the show as Maria , many said that Carrie did not have much experience to play such a big role as
Maria. It was said before that critics described ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Woah thats a lot of von Trapps you might say well there is a lot of them. Not just that but also there is
credits to be credited including Rob Ashford and Beth Mccarthy Miller as directors. So many cast
members you also might say , but on September 16 , 2013 , NBC revealed the full cast of the special.
Want to know a little bit more about the history well in The Sound Of Music Live was broadcasted
live from a stage in Bethpage , New York in about a budget of 9 million dollars which was not much
you may think but one of the producers named Zadan considered it to be one of the profoundly
complicated , amazing experiences we ve ever had Zadan said. If you didnt know before The Sound
Of Music Live was aired as part of a push by NBC to air more live entertainment specials. As it was
said before that the Sound Of Music was broadcasted among programs such as Sunday Night football ,
the show got in those rankings of views which is incredible ; the sound of music was watched by
18.62 million viewers and had a 4.6 rating in the 18 49 demographic it was one of the most viewed
shows that was programmed at night.
Another topic that would be interesting to discuss would be on the sponsorships that The Sound Of
Music recieved by big companies that are seen in every corner and city. This sponsorship must of

Can The Subaltern Speak?
Spivak s essay Can the Subaltern Speak? is originally published in Cary Nelson and Lawrence
Grossberg s Marxist and the Interpretation of culture(1988).(3)
In this essay, Spivak encourages and motivates but at the same time, she criticizes the effort of the
subaltern studies group in establishing a voice. As a feminist, Spivak wants to give a voice for those
who used to be silent. She describes how colonists prove their well intentioned in India differentiating
between British civilization and Indian Barbarism .
In her work, she joins her disapproval of the abuse against women, non Europeans, and the poor by
the wealthy west. Spivak faces in her essay epistemic violence done by sermons of knowledge that
shape the whole world. This epistemic violence is like a curse over subjects of discourses. It is similar
to Edward Said idea(1935 2003; public intellectual and founder of the academic field of postcolonial
studies).(4)His idea of otherness in Orientalism display the bigotry of western scholars who write in a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Multilinear Events Sequencing
My apologies for my late contribution to the forum, upon review of the chapter, I would agree with
my classmates that even though it required a lot of time, it was indeed insightful and gave me the
opportunity to examine additional approaches of causation analysis which sometimes they are not
included in the Maritime Investigation training courses provided by various classification societies.
The Multilinear Events Sequencing (MES) as mentioned in the relevant chapter of the book acts as an
alternative to the ECF charts. The MES method of analysis examines the conditions that led to an
accident. However it examines the accident as a part of successful and failed tasks that executed right
before the accident. The MES approach allows the investigator ... Show more content on

Since the MORT methodology is a having a more general approach it cannot be used to identify
causes that lay with technical causes of an accident (Johnson 2002).
The Prevention and Recovery Information System for Monitoring and Analysis (PRISMA) is a flow
chart methodology similar to MORT with different stages of causal analysis of an accident where
several nodes (stages) are classified and investigated in order to examine the general causes that led to
the accident (Johnson 2002). In contrast the PRISMA method does not use AND and OR logical gates
as the MORT approach. The following flow chart represents a PRISMA causal analysis approach used

Short Story Of Short Stories
One thing that s great about short stories is how quickly they can ruin your life. Maybe you start
reading one over your lunch break and, if it s the right one, before that peanut butter cup you brought
for dessert even has a chance to finish its melting shape shift into some kind of sugary cement, the
whole world has been destroyed around you and then rebuilt, and nothing is quite the same again. This
happens whether you like it or not. Great stories practice this violent beauty on you in a variety of
ways: some by making an absurd world familiar (or vice versa), some with a slow burn, some with a
voice that colonizes your thoughts. Some do it quietly, almost without you even noticing, and some do
it with high wire acts of imagination or intellect that make you into a breathless witness. The trick,
then, is finding the right story, one that is capable of such a thing. This is no easy task. Tastes differ, of
course, and it can be confusing to spot the small boat of a great story on the wide sea of fiction. What
any reader can offer you in terms of guidance is actually the same thing that any good writer can offer
you with the story itself: a way of saying, This is what moved me and made me feel strange and alive
in some way; here, why don t you give it a try? In that spirit and in no particular order, here are ten
short stories you might ve missed that ambushed me with their odd wonder: 1. The Zero Meter Diving

Causes Of Forbidden Love In Romeo And Juliet Essay
The cause of forbidden love and death The play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, is about a
boy and a girl that come from two feuding families and find themself with forbidden love and getting
controlled by anger and ending up in death. There are many themes that are shown in the play, but one
that stuck out to me is how anger is controlling and can make you do things you d never do, the anger
between the two families is mysterious and misleading and the cause of their tragic death. Their
families happen to be very controlling of who they marry and who they fall in love with. In the
beginning the families are fighting and we see anger as something the families think is healthy and it s
just a little rivalry until it affects something as big as someone s life. When Shakespeare writes Where

O, i am a fortune s fool! (3.3 142) Romeo says after he kills Tybalt, this shows what Romeo was
thinking after he killed Tybalt and realizing he would most likely be punished and never be able to see
Juliet again. In this quote we can understand at this point in the story Shakespeare sees anger as
something misleading and anger can blind you and let your emotions go until it makes you do stupid
things without thinking about it. Based on the way Shakespeare words this quote, we see that anger
has clearly taken control over the couple, Romeo is banned from the city, which is where Juliet his
wife lives. Romeo is now going to Friar Laurence because he s been banned. Juliet is really confused
and does not want to be forced to marry Paris and would rather die. With all the anger heating up
inside Juliet she decides to go to Friar Laurence to get a plan of action so she can stay with Romeo but

Gmo: the Value Versus Growth Dilemma
GMO: The Value Versus Growth Dilemma |
1. What is value investing? What is its rationale? What are GMO s main arguments in favor of value
investing?
Value investing is a way of investing in company stocks that are considered either undervalued or out
of favor by the market. In other word, a value investment is one where the intrinsic value of the stock
is not accurately reflected in the current market valuation. The underlying reason of too much
decreasing in the stock price is that the company may be losing market shares or even in trouble due to
market s panic attributed to negative rumors as well as having management problems. Since the
market price has dramatically descended, the book to market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As a result, he will increase his retention rate, retain revenue, and also provide an opportunity for new
investors to invest in the trendy growth stock fund. In addition, if GMO invest in growth stocks, it will
increase the diversification of the overall portfolios; which is that when value stocks are doing well, it
will help offset the growth stocks that are performing poorly and vice versa. Most importantly, GMO
must provide adequate knowledge of growth stocks investing to its clients before allowing them to
invest in them. This will prevent future problems, such as clients complaining about major losses if
growth stock crashes one day.
4. Why wouldn t GMO include Cisco Systems, an otherwise excellent company, in its portfolio at this
time? Why is it willing to consider CVS or R.R Donnelley? What are the long term expected returns
for those stocks? Support your answers by examining P/E ratios, price earnings growth (PEG), and
other metrics that may be relevant to the decision.

CASE: American Barrick Resources Corporation : Managing Gold Price Risk
1. In the absence of a hedging program using financial instruments, how sensitive would Barrick stock
be to gold price changes? For every 1% change in gold prices, how might its stock be affected? How
could the firm manage its gold price exposure without the use of financial contracts?

In 1992, American Barrick produced and sold over 1.28 Million Ounces of gold at a price of $422
instead of $345 market rate, as a result of the risk management program. Such benefits would lead to
higher revenues, and thus higher profits and in turn render higher value for the shareholders. The
organisation guidelines clearly specifed that the risk managemnt system should be such that they are
fully protected against price declines for 3yrs and 20 25% for a decade.
Thus such a mechanism helped create value for the shareholders as the profits of a Gold mine are
dependent on fluctuation in gold prices and the difference between revenue and costs. Thus locking
future prices, provided financial stability, enabling the organisation to avoids dips, and plan cash flows
in a confident way, and in combination with the rising production, offered investors and shareholders a
predictable , rising earnings profile in the future
1. How would you characterize the evolution of Barrick s price risk management activities? Are they
consistent with the stated policy goals?
As a producer of commodity products, gold mining firms had virtually no marketing or distribution
costs. There was always a ready market for their products, at market prices, once extracted from the
earth amp; refined. Therefore a gold mine s profits were a function of the quantity of its production

What Is The Meaning Of The Poem Fifteen
Fifteen is a poem that was written by William Stafford about a story that happened while he was
fifteen. A quick summary for the story is , there was a fifteen year old boy. He found a motorcycle
running on its side in the grass. The rider had crashed and had fallen off the motorcycle and off the
bridge. The poem does not follow a rhyme scheme or meter, which means that there is rhythm in the
poem and it makes the poem more like a song. The poem has four stanza s and has five lines within
each stanza. Stafford explains that one summer when he was next to a bridge and saw a motorcycle
running while it is laying down on its side deep in the grass. South of the bridge on seventeenth I

Alliteration was also evident throughout the poem in the first line of the first stanza when he said
south of the bridge on seventeenth (Stafford, page 805, stanza 1). The alliteration is south and
seventeenth because both words start with an S . Imagery was found in the second stanza, which says,
I admired all the pulsing gleam, the shiny flanks (Stafford, page 805, stanza 2). The poet was looking
at the motorcycle and the sun was aimed directly in the glass of the motorcycle, which lets you see the
streaks, which are the pulsing gleam he mentioned. I stood there, fifteen (Stafford, page 805, line 6
from stanza 2). This is a repetition of his age and that he was a wise teenager because he got the man
back on his motorcycle. The learner profiles that are visible in the poem are thinker because Stafford
didn t steal the motorcycle, instead he helped the owner, Caring because he is a fifteen year old and is
a young adult who helped an injured man. Risk taker because he wanted to ride the motorcycle even
though he didn t have any experience with it. Principled because Stafford is a wise and thoughtful man
because he helped a man from losing hope and dying in the grass by getting him back on his

The Headgear Debate In Women s Lacrosse
In the beginning of the season, the Sherwood High School girl s lacrosse team had enough to field two

one point in the season the team had 8 out of 26 girls out with concussions Team statistics such as this,
have the lacrosse community in an uproar over whether or not to mandate helmets for all levels of
women s lacrosse teams. The debate has arisen out of an increase in concussions and the recent
research which has provided more insight to the science of the brain and its injuries. Those in favor of

Florida s decision brought a lot of outcry within many high school teams and even US Lacrosse. A
mandate in only 1 state had US Lacrosse in a bind because they could not all of the sudden mandate
headgear across the country, and they could not force Florida to repeal the decision as it was a
statewide vote. Not only did they mandate a helmet, that they had not tested they had changed the
rules in all of Florida to be more lax on the yellow card rule ( Why Women s ). This new headgear was
a 10 millimeter thick headband that had to be worn under the girl s goggles. Many of the high school
players spoke out against these protective headbands saying that all they were doing was creating
distraction (Pennington). It got in the way of their goggles, was flimsy, and continually fell off during
game play which caused discontent from officials as well. These headbands have been criticized
because they only cover a very small portion of the girls head and have not been very successful in
decreasing the number of concussions. In fact, some argue it could even have made the rate of
concussions rise. Ann Carpenetti, Vice President of lacrosse operations at US Lacrosse, called the
headgear decision in Florida irresponsible and continued by saying that Florida s

beginning with the horseless Buick carriage in 1903. Heavy competition arose when Ford released the

On September 29, 1966 General Motors struck back with its own pony car, the Chevrolet Camaro.

Graduation Speech At Utah Valley University
Ever since I could remember my parents told me that college was key to being successful in life, if
you didn t attend a good college your life was most likely not going to be a very happy one. This
message stay throughout my life , education was of great importance and college was the key factor of
where you ended up in life. High school counselors, teachers, parents, and mentors all emphasized that
the better the college you attend the more opportunities you ll have. Being a high school senior and
having to think seriously about the future now, I applied for many schools and landed at Utah Valley
University, a great feeder school for Brigham Young University. I attended Utah Valley University for
1 semester and I really enjoyed many aspects of going to a university but decided to go back home to
orange county and attend a community college instead, Coastline Community College. I have so far
been enrolled at coastline for about a month and can see the likenesses and the differences between the
university life and the community college life. I can see no college is alike, and that doesn t mean one
college is better than another. It took transferring to a community college to see that not even a
university is better than a community college.
Utah Valley University and Coastline Community College, weren t the same type of school but
actually had quite a bit of similarities. For instance, both Utah Valley and Coastline are well known for

How Did Sylvia Plath Write The Bell Jar
The first time I ever read The Bell Jar, was when I was 15. I remember thinking about how raw the
author, Sylvia Plath, must have felt while writing this. There will never be a time where I can read this

equality and not double standards, and with wanting several lives, not just one. I know this book
means a lot to me, and I am sure it means just as much to other people as well. The main character is
Esther Greenwood and she lives in New York as a guest editor for a magazine. She lives in an all girl

Tupac Shakur s `` Keep Ya Head Up ``
Tupac Shakur released the song Keep Ya Head Up first in 1993 on his album Strictly for my
N.I.G.G.A.Z. , then as a single in 1994. Tupac s Keep Ya Head Up , one of his most notable and
recognizable singles, received acclaim upon its release and continues to do so. The record centers on
the social climate in the 90 s, and Tupac s own experiences from his youth. Around the time of the
song s release, Tupac s indictment in a rape case colored the reception of the song although it
remained mainly positive. Tupac speaks on multiple issues through his lyrics, making it effective as a
critique of society; moreover, the other creative devices he uses phrasing, rhythm changes, and
samples make the song effective as an artistic project and back up his social message. Tupac s rhymes
and phrases center on the treatment of women (especially black women) in America. The video also
includes a dedication to Latasha Harlins, who died at the hands of a Korean shop owner in 1991.
Underneath the dedication, reads it s still on in reference to the L.A. riots in 1992 (Genius 2010). This
song speaks about the treatment of women, life in the ghetto, and society s disregard for the poor.
Tupac repeatedly tells women that they deserve better treatment and that they should not allow
themselves to feel defeated by their circumstances. He exclaims the phrase Keep ya head up at the end
of each verse. Also, in the song he asserts his disdain for men who emotionally abuse women and

of hip hop, also referred to as big fashion or street fashion, has consistently been complex throughout
its many different eras and styles. While fashion in hip hop is not constricted to a specific trend or
designs, it is well known for its overflow of different styles all influenced by vibrant African American
and Latino youths from the urban city streets of New York City later followed by Los Angeles,
Houston, Chicago, Philadelphia, the San Francisco Bay Area, Detroit, Memphis, Virginia, Atlanta, St.
Louis and others. Many inaccurately credit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the late 1980s, conscious rappers like KRS One and Queen Latifah mostly fashioned colors of
black, red, and green to pay homage to their African American ancestors. Dreadlocks, Kente cloth
hats, and Africa chains were also famous trends of this era. During the early 1990s, a unique style of
hip hop surfaced to popularity along with a new style of hip hop fashion as well. Pop rap artists like
The Fresh Prince popularized baseball caps and neon colored clothing. TLC and Aaliyah emerged as
deep iconic fashion influencers to female hip hop listeners. These women wore oversized pants and
big flannel button ups coupled with sport bras to add their own touch of femininity to the male
dominant industry. A pivotal moment in hip hop fashion was in 1984, when Michael Jordan signed a
multimillion dollar sneaker contract with Nike Athletics. This sparked a surge of popularity in name
brand sneakers and rap artists of all kinds were seen wearing the latest Jordan s at many events and in
music videos. Reebok, Carhartt, Timberlands, Champion, and Fila were also popular brands associated

such as N.W.A. influenced the gangsta street style, which mimicked the cholo style of the west coast.

The Doctrine Of Separation Of Power
The main objective of this essay is to explore whether the doctrine of separation of power is a vital
element of modern, democratic systems of government. At the same time, it will show the basic points
of working process in Australian legal system.
Callie Harvey declared that only under the condition that separation of power can be maintained
between parts of government, the democratic civilisation can be justly ruled. In fact, the legal system
in Australia is divided into three branches, which are based on the doctrine of separation of power,
with the main ambition that it works independently and cooperate to maintain the fairness principle.
According to the Constitution, the power will be authorised in the Queen, while the Governor General
exercises and elects members of Parliament, which is given the legislative power to make laws. In the
Parliament, there is delegation of power between Commonwealth government and State government;
while under the Constitution, there is branches of power such as exclusive, concurrent and residual
power that have to follow when making laws. Because of the differences in characteristics about
demographic, living standards, etc. Therefore, each state can make laws, regulations depending on
state s elements and increase the effectiveness of laws in daily life. Secondly, Governor General also
appoints Ministers and form the Cabinet, which has the power to put laws into action, called executive
power. Finally, the last branch is Judiciary,

Arnold Schwarzenegger is a socialized charismatic leader who paints a strong vision for the future of

Weider used Schwarzenegger to make body building sexy (Montana 2008). To do this he had to
change the image of the bodybuilder (much like Schwarzenegger is attempting to change the image of

The Degradation Of Socio Ecological Coastal Areas Of The...
Introduction
The Philippines is an archipelagic country located in Southeast Asia. The Philippines is composed of
7,100 islands bestowed with rich coastal resources and marine diversity (Balgos, 2005). With rich
coastal resources, Filipinos made coastal fishing activities its main livelihood. On the other hand,
tourism is also seen as a growing industry in the coastal areas. This has resulted in the degradation of
socio ecological coastal areas in the Philippines. Because of this problem, it is important for the
stakeholders to clearly identify its roles and responsibilities in order to make a sustainable future for
everyone. However, if the policies are not clearly defined and strictly implemented, problems and
issues, particularly with coastal resources, will arise. These include overfishing, destructive fishing,
sedimentation and disposal of untreated waste, lack of integrated management plans, lack of
enforcement, lack of community involvement, and lack of alternative livelihood options (Parras,
2001). This will not only affect the physical environment, but also everyone that depends on it and its
resources for their livelihood. As environmental issues are a very broad topic to discuss, I will be only
focusing on the current challenges being faced by the stakeholders involved in Tacloban City,
Philippines (Figure 1). For example, the policies being implemented that affect coastal shores and
resources, and the strategies that will help minimize the damage around it.

people do not possess the obligatory attributes to accomplish an aim or motive in their lives. In the

Gender Equality And Gender Inequality
Women. We are the subordinate class. Our portrayal in the real world has proven this fact to many.
Many people ask how could a women even be considered an equal? With the lesser pay and respect
we are given, it is not very surprising this question is being asked. Yet we are also growing up in the
age of Oprah Winfrey, Hilary Clinton, Malala Yousafzai who all represent the strong and empowering
qualities women hold. They fought to have a say, and now hold the respect of thousands. So the real
question one must ask is not regarding how women can be considered equal, it is regarding as to why
we are considered as lesser after having accomplished just as much as men, if not more? The gender
gap places woman on a lower pedestal. We are continually receiving less pay, despite possessing
similar knowledge and capabilities as men. An article from the World Economic Forum stated that the
pay gap is widening and having the opposite effect than planned despite [the] numerous initiatives to
break glass ceilings and force salary disclosure. This pressing issue is in dire need of a resolution. The
gender gap not only threatens women s individual rights, it violates the equal protection clause under
the fourteenth amendment which promises to protect women from sex discrimination. With the equal
protection clause in place that specifically declared the equal protection of the laws, one would have
hoped that gender equality fell within this criteria, however that is not the case.

U.S. Constitution vs. Jamaican Constitution
Upon initial consideration, one would presume that the United States Constitution and the
Constitution of Jamaica would not be similar at all. After all, the United States Constitution was
ratified in 1787, whereas the Jamaican Constitution was not ratified until 1962, the year Jamaica
gained its independence. At first glance, Jamaica s constitution appears to be most similar to that of
England, because they both establish a parliament and share the same chief of state (Queen Elizabeth
II). These similarities are understandable considering the United Kingdom owned Jamaica until
Jamaica gained its independence in 1962. But if one digs deeper into Jamaica s constitution, the many

As with the U.S., bills may be introduced by any member of either house, and approved by both
houses. The existence of an upper house (Senate) in both Constitutions permits useful participation in
public affairs to those who might not wish to run for election. Senate also encourages the patronage
offerings of the major political parties. The final branch that the Constitution of Jamaica creates is the
judicial branch. As is the case with the U.S. judicial branch, the Jamaican judiciary is a network of
courts, ranging from petty sessions of the Court of Appeal, to the Judicial Committee of the Privy
Council in London, which is essentially identical to the U.S. Supreme Court. Also like the U.S.
judicial system, the head of the Jamaican judicial branch is the Chief Justice. In addition to an elected
House of Representatives and an appointed Senate (upper house), the Parliament consists of a
ceremonial head, the Queen, or in her absence the Governor general. The Governor general nominates
the twenty one members of the Senate: thirteen on the Prime Minister s advice and eight on the
opposition leader s advice. The sixty House of Representative members are elected by the citizens of
Jamaica based on popular vote. The Jamaican Constitution requires that the Prime Minister call a
general election no later than five years after the first sitting of the previous Parliament (Government

Analysis Of The Meursault

Meursault Portrays a Teenager As I stood overlooking the edge of a steep, mountainous cliff, I noticed
the waves gradually growing taller. In Hawaii, on this particular day, the waves seemed choppier than
normal. Out of fear, I automatically associated the bottom of the cliff with death. On the other hand,
my friend had a different mentality. Her eyes glistened as she gazed down. I could see her eagerness to
dive straight into the ocean. Without even holding her breath, she was gone. However, her decision
was not surprising to me. Like my friend, many teenagers live a day to day basis by sayings such as,
life s too short and you can never get second chance. These mottos often cling to juveniles, causing
them to make rash and careless decisions. In today s day and age, teenagers are the one group of
people that portray this reckless behavior. Although frowned upon in society, existentialism is
commonly found in many pieces of literature. This theory usually highlights man s existence with
society and the world. Like teenagers, the characters in these books and stories are usually displayed
as emotionless and disconnected to the world. In The Stranger, by Albert Camus, the protagonist,
Meursault, perfectly fits the image of an existentialist. In this book, Camus creates realistic scenarios
that Meursault undergoes, however, wants each reader to react differently to Meursault s actions. The

Prejudice in Society: A Social Challenge
Prejudice is the term referring to the practice of forming an opinion or value of someone or something,
in the absence of direct experience of that person or thing (Augoustinos, Walker and Donaghue 225).
Prejudice include preformed opinions and views made prior to uncovering of the real facts and
knowledge behind the subject from an individual, a group of people, or even the values and beliefs
they espouse. In some societies, prejudices have been regarded as pervasive social challenges, serving
to separate groups of people and individuals along divisive lies drawn by their different opinions
(Rauch 1995). While prejudices ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Allowing racial prejudice to continue without any form of intervention would be opening doors to
building up animosity and negative tension between involved groups (Augoustinos and Reynolds
244). Using the same example of racial prejudice, it would be apparent that the raised dissimilarities
and opinions against either groups will be destructive in terms of building social cognition and
cohesion among racial groups (Augoustinos, Walker and Donaghue 226). On the other hand, Rauch
advocates for intellectual pluralism with the standpoint that it would provide protection for the
vulnerable minority groups. As pointed out in his article on prejudice, pluralism conjectures that there
will always exist such prejudices , which should instead be marginalized, exploited, ridiculed, but left
alone at the end (Rauch 1995). It is evident that preconceptions and bigotries cannot be eliminated
from every corner as presupposed by purist view. Contrary to Rauch s view that suppressing prejudice
will be counterproductive, however, measures put across public utilities and institutions are beneficial
in curtailing spread of malicious opinions. These include equal employment opportunity extended to
all people by public institutions regardless of their racial background. Another effective measure has
been the inhibiting of any form of racial utterances, abuse and actions in these institutions, especially
violent behavior, motivated by racial hatred with the malicious intent of injuring a person of another
race. In addition to these, institutions have the mandate to sue in court such behavior within our justice

Solar Power And Solar Energy
Solar energy is capable of providing a cleaner energy than most forms of energy generation, and solar
energy is able to be generated economically. Solar energy reduces the amount of harm to the
environment from energy generation, by providing a cleaner alternative. Solar energy also provides
jobs for construction and installation of solar powered technologies. The cost of installing solar panels
can vary greatly, but its long term benefits outweigh the costs. Typically a solar panel system is a three
kilowatts to eight kilowatts system that cost fifteen thousand to forty thousand dollars to install, total
cost depends on circumstances of installation. However tax credits and incentives help recoup a
portion of the cost in the first year, the savings of electricity cost makes installing the system
profitable in under 10 years (Maehlum). Purchasing the system requires a large loan, however paying
the loan can be substantially better than paying utility bills when the investment will eventually be
paid for. If the system is large enough to handle the requirements of the household, the only payment
for electricity will be the cost of the loan. Making loan payments instead of paying utility bills is
predictable, and any excess energy will be used as a credit for months were the owner s energy use

Becoming Vegan Or Go Home ! By Sarah Breslaw
The Source of Veganism Finding a solution to sustain our environment has long been debated. In the
essay Go
Vegan or Go Home! , Sarah Breslaw asserts veganism as the answer to curbing environmental
concerns. Breslaw makes a clear argument in her thesis and explains both negative and positive
aspects of veganism but ultimately succumbs to logical fallacies, faulty sourcing and evident
subjectivity which weaken her claim. Sarah Breslaw is a student at the University of California, Santa
Barbara and has been a vegetarian for the past four years. Her personal nutrition habits and values can
be attributed to her favorable stance towards plant based diets. The essay s context is set in the middle
of the rising veganism fads popularized by celebrities and mainstream media. As a student, Breslaw s
main audience are her fellow peers, professors and those concerned with lessening their carbon
footprint. Moreover, her thesis statement becoming vegan is the responsible choice , explicitly outlines
the purpose of the essay which provides the basis of why she believes the responsible choice to
combat negative environmental effects is to become vegan. To establish credibility, Breslaw cites
multiple sources of varying reliability.
One source she uses solidifies credibility because it is published from a scholarly journal. The
majority of her sources, however, are from sites such as, peta.org and vegan.org which have
exceedingly biased agendas. The

Love and Prowess in The Knight with the Lion Essay
Love and Prowess in The Knight with the Lion
The chivalric ideal demanded many things of a knight. To the military ideals of prowess, loyalty, and
honor it added the aristocratic ideal of largesse and, with the rise of the troubadour lyrics and
romances, the ideal of courtly love. At times a knight could find these demands in conflict with one
another. Such is the case with Chrétien de Troyes s romance The Knight with the Lion. In this story,
the hero Yvain finds love while pursuing prowess; but, continuing to pursue prowess, he loses that
love. In the adventures that follow, he seeks to regain his love. In so doing, he develops true prowess
without aiming for it and learns to reconcile chivalry s demands of love and prowess, ... Show more

Yvain s prowess is already great in this early part of the story, as we can see from his first two feats of
arms. In the first, he defeats Esclados the Red, the defender of the fountain, by whom Calogrenant had
been so disgraced. How good a knight Esclados defeated in Calogrenant, the story does not indicate,
only that he is a most agreeable knight (258). We may perhaps assume that, being a knight of Arthur s
Round Table, Calogrenant would have been a good fighter and his defeat more the exception than the
rule. Regardless of his abilities, however, Calogrenant s failure at the spring serves one important
purpose: it provides a backdrop against which Yvain s success there is seen to be all the more
impressive. To this backdrop is added Calogrenant s description of the spring s defender:
I thought there were at least ten. Yet there was only a single knight whose approach caused so much
noise and commotion....As though bent on evil, he was riding up faster than an eagle and looking as
ferocious as a lion....The knight had a good horse and a stout lance, and without doubt, he was a whole
head taller than I....His lance was not light but, in my opinion, weighed more than any knight s lance. I
have never seen one so large. (263)
Besides this, there is the testimony of Calogrenant s courteous host: So far as they knew or had heard
tell, no man, they said, had ever escaped the

Essay on The Pros and Cons of Ethnographic Reflexivity
The Advantages and Limits of Ethnographic Reflexivity
Awareness of writing choices generates an appreciation of the reflexivity of ethnographic research.
Reflexivity involves the recognition that an account of reality does not simply mirror reality but rather
creates or constitutes as real in the first place whatever it describes. Thus the notion of reflexivity
recognizes that texts do not simply and transparently report an independent order of reality. Rather, the
texts themselves are implicated in the work of reality construction (Emerson et. al., 1995:213).
According to Robert M. Emerson and colleagues, reflexivity is a method in which the ethnographer is
aware that his/her writing choices are shaped to acknowledge the ... Show more content on

In her ethnography she writes how she had to reconstruct her self in order to fit in to Japanese society.
She looked Japanese but she did not act the way a native Japanese would act. Her informants than
taught her how to act like a native and in this process she began to understand aspects of the Japanese
culture. She mentions:
These factors perhaps gave me a certain kind of participatory understanding of certain aspects of
Japanese society. It also meant that, once I became an active participant in various groups (family,
factory, etc.) my knowledge was circumscribed. For example, therefore did not have free access to
certain people, and I could not ask certain questions that a foreigner less aware of indelicacy could
have posed with impunity (84).
In forming a self in Japanese society she notes that one is more accessible to gaining further
understanding about the culture being studied. Thus, she critiques the traditional ethnographic
methods because she finds that older text make objective assumptions that are not necessary the reality
of a culture. The assumptions than are seen as the true reality and full understanding of a culture. On
the contrary, reflexivity implies that ethnographic knowledge is intrinsically incomplete and relative
(84). Thus she suggest, that the best path to studying cultures is to acknowledge our bias, assumptions
and that of our informants to trace the parameters, the

Five Birthday Secrets
5 Birthday Secrets On our way from the professor s office, it was so dark in the streets I almost tripped
on the end of the sidewalk. Then I remembered that it was our Birthday today. I was so excited
because all of our family was there. Our house was all decorated with sports stuff, like banners,
streamers, and balloons all over. We both turned around and said HAPPY BIRTHDAY. then JINKS.
We had cake, ice cream, and all that stuff [even a soccer ball piñata.] it was all so fun. After the party
while we were cleaning up uncle Dave reminded me about the Book [when me and Hunter where
about seven. My Mom and Dad, told us that when we tuned twelve we would open The Book of
Secrets] she ran into our bedroom, in the closet she found a box, in the box was a lot of tissue paper
and packing peanuts, she through that stuff aside and she took out the box that held the book and
brought it back to the living room. We opened it together, and there it was that book that had cased all
that commotion. Hunter opened it and papers after papers fell out. We each took one, my paper
said......Dear Asher sorry about the trouble, but you and Hunter both have powers, yours are Invisible,
shipshape into anything, stop time, go forward in time, go back in time, super speed, super strong,
teleport, go though anything, use fire, water, and air balls, and control the weak minded. LOVE, Dad
and it said BE SAFE all over. WOW! We went to bed feeling confused, and powerful if you know
what I mean. 6

History of Chinese Students Studying Abroad or in the U.S.
Introduction: history of Chinese students studying abroad in U.S. The history of Chinese students
studying in American universities dates back to the mid 1850s, when the first student, Yung Wing,
graduated from Yale University in 1854 (Bartlett and Fischer Para. 8). After that. Qin Dynasty starts
sending Chinese students to learned new sciences and technologies and we called Westernization
Movement . The educational missions to the US were organized in the 1870s to train specialists who
would create better engines and iron hulls for Chinese ships (Bartlett and Fischer Para. 8). The 1870s
mission involved about 120 students, who were sponsored to study at the United States top
universities. Since the 1870s, the number of Chinese students in American colleges has grown
exponentially to become the largest population of foreign students in the US (Institute of International
Education [IIE] 7). After the Qing court s resistance to reform and by China s weakness, Sun Yat Sen
led a revolutionary military uprising. During the regime changing time, people really didn t know
what democracy is. Therefore, more and more students chose to study abroad to learn about the
western political system. Chinese students travel to the US to pursue a degree in Western colleges,
which they consider to be among the best learning institutions in the world. Figure 1 Number of

The Characteristics Of Classism In The Classical Period
The Classical period, sometimes called the Hellenic period, began in the 5th and 4th centuries BC.
During the Classical period, Greece succeeded its maximum level of success both culturally and
economically. The ancient Greeks strode to perfect both the body and mind. Classism has caused a
significant amount of changes in the art world which allowed them to express themselves through
their art spiritually. Classism s qualities still are featured throughout the artworks that are being made
today. Some of this movement s features would include how most of the sculptures that are done are
idealized. Idealism is when someone is painted, or sculpted with the ideal body and face. Realism is
another feature in Classical Art. Realism is seeking truth through the artwork, they could no longer
achieve the look they were going for by just chiseling away at a block of stone. Therefore, they based
they techniques on modelling, by building first out of clay on new models and then they would copy
them into stone. One of the last main features in this movement would be how mathematically correct
everything is. Artists in these eras were very conscious about correct proportions, measurements, and
symmetry. That is how those artists made it possible to create such perfect and idealized masterpieces.
A sculptural example of Classical Art is The Spear Bearer . This entailed careful observation of a
model as well as understanding of the mechanics of anatomy of how a body shifts from a pose,

Johnson acquired a troublesome circumstance in Vietnam, as the South Vietnamese government was in shambles and the Viet Cong was making substantial additions in provincial ranges of the South. Despite the fact that Johnson charged himself as an intense hostile to Communist, he vowed to respect Kennedy s constrained troop duties in Vietnam. • 4. Clifford Geertz Religion As A Cultural System Summary Clifford Geertz, in his essay Religion as a Cultural System , presents what he considers to be the definition of religion. According to him, religion is about symbols and people use these symbols as a guide for their view of the world and how they should behave in that world. Religion, states Geertz is a system of symbols which acts to establish powerful, pervasive, and long lasting moods and motivations in men by formulating conceptions of a general order of existence and clothing these conceptions with such an aura of factuality that the moods and motivations seem uniquely realistic (Geertz, The Interpretation of Cultures, page 90). He distinguishes between intrinsic and extrinsic sources of information. The intrinsic are those which are genetically programmed and are highly generalized . For this reason the extrinsic sources of information are very important. They have a very important function which is to provide a model for how we should live. He believes that the symbols of a religious nature, found extrinsic to us, help us know how to see the world and how we should be within the world (Churnus). Model of reality and a model for acting well Secondly, these symbols establish powerful and long lasting moods and motivations. This means that the symbols, such as the sweat lodge ceremony practiced by many Plains Indians or the marriage ceremony of Christianity and many other religions, are what motivate people and are also that which helps to establish peoples states of being. The symbols express the world s climate and shape it (Geertz, page ). Symbols are powerful because they encourage people, those who worship the symbol, into certain moods (Geertz). This means that, given certain situations where a symbol might be present or act as a motivator, the person might feel a certain way or be motivated to act in a certain manner. These, states Geertz are the two different dispositions which might be induced (page ). Motivations, from a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Multilinear Events Sequencing (MES) as mentioned in the relevant chapter of the book acts as an alternative to the ECF charts. • 9. Short Story Of Short Stories One thing that s great about short stories is how quickly they can ruin your life. Maybe you start reading one over your lunch break and, if it s the right one, before that peanut butter cup you brought for dessert even has a chance to finish its melting shape shift into some kind of sugary cement, the whole world has been destroyed around you and then rebuilt, and nothing is quite the same again. This happens whether you like it or not. Great stories practice this violent beauty on you in a variety of ways: some by making an absurd world familiar (or vice versa), some with a slow burn, some with a voice that colonizes your thoughts. Some do it quietly, almost without you even noticing, and some do it with high wire acts of imagination or intellect that make you into a breathless witness. The trick, then, is finding the right story, one that is capable of such a thing. This is no easy task. Tastes differ, of course, and it can be confusing to spot the small boat of a great story on the wide sea of fiction. What any reader can offer you in terms of guidance is actually the same thing that any good writer can offer you with the story itself: a way of saying, This is what moved me and made me feel strange and alive in some way; here, why don t you give it a try? Causes Of Forbidden Love In Romeo And Juliet Essay The cause of forbidden love and death The play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, is about a boy and a girl that come from two feuding families and find themself with forbidden love and getting controlled by anger and ending up in death. There are many themes that are shown in the play, but one that stuck out to me is how anger is controlling and can make you do things you d never do, the anger between the two families is mysterious and misleading and the cause of their tragic death. Their families happen to be very controlling of who they marry and who they fall in love with. In the beginning the families are fighting and we see anger as something the families think is healthy and it s just a little rivalry until it affects something as big as someone s life. What are GMO s main arguments in favor of value investing? Value investing is a way of investing in company stocks that are considered either undervalued or out of favor by the market. In other word, a value investment is one where the intrinsic value of the stock is not accurately reflected in the current market valuation. The underlying reason of too much decreasing in the stock price is that the company may be losing market shares or even in trouble due to market s panic attributed to negative rumors as well as having management problems. In addition, if GMO invest in growth stocks, it will increase the diversification of the overall portfolios; which is that when value stocks are doing well, it will help offset the growth stocks that are performing poorly and vice versa. Most importantly, GMO must provide adequate knowledge of growth stocks investing to its clients before allowing them to invest in them. This will prevent future problems, such as clients complaining about major losses if growth stock crashes one day. 4. Why wouldn t GMO include Cisco Systems, an otherwise excellent company, in its portfolio at this time? Why is it willing to consider CVS or R.R Donnelley? What are the long term expected returns for those stocks? Support your answers by examining P/E ratios, price earnings growth (PEG), and other metrics that may be relevant to the decision. The rider had crashed and had fallen off the motorcycle and off the bridge. The poem does not follow a rhyme scheme or meter, which means that there is rhythm in the poem and it makes the poem more like a song. Being a high school senior and having to think seriously about the future now, I applied for many schools and landed at Utah Valley University, a great feeder school for Brigham Young University. I attended Utah Valley University for 1 semester and I really enjoyed many aspects of going to a university but decided to go back home to orange county and attend a community college instead, Coastline Community College. I have so far been enrolled at coastline for about a month and can see the likenesses and the differences between the university life and the community college life. I can see no college is alike, and that doesn t mean one college is better than another. It took transferring to a community college to see that not even a university is better than a community college. Utah Valley University and Coastline Community College, weren t the same type of school but actually had quite a bit of similarities. • 18. How Did Sylvia Plath Write The Bell Jar The first time I ever read The Bell Jar, was when I was 15. I remember thinking about how raw the author, Sylvia Plath, must have felt while writing this. There will never be a time where I can read this story, from beginning to end, and not cry. In this story, I empathize with wanting control, with wanting equality and not double standards, and with wanting several lives, not just one. I know this book means a lot to me, and I am sure it means just as much to other people as well. The main character is Esther Greenwood and she lives in New York as a guest editor for a magazine. She lives in an all girl hotel with eleven other ladies. Plath describes that even though Esther is not alone, she cannot help but feel deadened inside. The plot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tupac s Keep Ya Head Up , one of his most notable and recognizable singles, received acclaim upon its release and continues to do so. The record centers on the social climate in the 90 s, and Tupac s own experiences from his youth. Around the time of the song s release, Tupac s indictment in a rape case colored the reception of the song although it remained mainly positive. Tupac speaks on multiple issues through his lyrics, making it effective as a critique of society; moreover, the other creative devices he uses phrasing, rhythm changes, and samples make the song effective as an artistic project and back up his social message. Tupac s rhymes and phrases center on the treatment of women (especially black women) in America. The video also includes a dedication to Latasha Harlins, who died at the hands of a Korean shop owner in 1991. Underneath the dedication, reads it s still on in reference to the L.A. riots in 1992 (Genius 2010). This song speaks about the treatment of women, life in the ghetto, and society s disregard for the poor. Tupac repeatedly tells women that they deserve better treatment and that they should not allow themselves to feel defeated by their circumstances. He exclaims the phrase Keep ya head up at the end of each verse. Also, in the song he asserts his disdain for men who emotionally abuse women and leave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the same time, it will show the basic points of working process in Australian legal system. Callie Harvey declared that only under the condition that separation of power can be maintained between parts of government, the democratic civilisation can be justly ruled. In fact, the legal system in Australia is divided into three branches, which are based on the doctrine of separation of power, with the main ambition that it works independently and cooperate to maintain the fairness principle. According to the Constitution, the power will be authorised in the Queen, while the Governor General exercises and elects members of Parliament, which is given the legislative power to make laws. In the Parliament, there is delegation of power between Commonwealth government and State government; while under the Constitution, there is branches of power such as exclusive, concurrent and residual power that have to follow when making laws. Because of the differences in characteristics about demographic, living standards, etc. Therefore, each state can make laws, regulations depending on state s elements and increase the effectiveness of laws in daily life. The Philippines is composed of 7,100 islands bestowed with rich coastal resources and marine diversity (Balgos, 2005). With rich coastal resources, Filipinos made coastal fishing activities its main livelihood. On the other hand, tourism is also seen as a growing industry in the coastal areas. This has resulted in the degradation of socio ecological coastal areas in the Philippines. Because of this problem, it is important for the stakeholders to clearly identify its roles and responsibilities in order to make a sustainable future for everyone. However, if the policies are not clearly defined and strictly implemented, problems and issues, particularly with coastal resources, will arise. These include overfishing, destructive fishing, sedimentation and disposal of untreated waste, lack of integrated management plans, lack of enforcement, lack of community involvement, and lack of alternative livelihood options (Parras, 2001). This will not only affect the physical environment, but also everyone that depends on it and its resources for their livelihood. As environmental issues are a very broad topic to discuss, I will be only focusing on the current challenges being faced by the stakeholders involved in Tacloban City, Philippines (Figure 1). Many people ask how could a women even be considered an equal? With the lesser pay and respect we are given, it is not very surprising this question is being asked. Yet we are also growing up in the age of Oprah Winfrey, Hilary Clinton, Malala Yousafzai who all represent the strong and empowering qualities women hold. They fought to have a say, and now hold the respect of thousands. So the real question one must ask is not regarding how women can be considered equal, it is regarding as to why we are considered as lesser after having accomplished just as much as men, if not more? The gender gap places woman on a lower pedestal. We are continually receiving less pay, despite possessing similar knowledge and capabilities as men. An article from the World Economic Forum stated that the pay gap is widening and having the opposite effect than planned despite [the] numerous initiatives to break glass ceilings and force salary disclosure. This pressing issue is in dire need of a resolution. The gender gap not only threatens women s individual rights, it violates the equal protection clause under the fourteenth amendment which promises to protect women from sex discrimination. Analysis Of The Meursault Amanda Glassman English 12 10/20/15 Meursault Portrays a Teenager As I stood overlooking the edge of a steep, mountainous cliff, I noticed the waves gradually growing taller. In Hawaii, on this particular day, the waves seemed choppier than normal. Out of fear, I automatically associated the bottom of the cliff with death. On the other hand, my friend had a different mentality. Her eyes glistened as she gazed down. I could see her eagerness to dive straight into the ocean. Without even holding her breath, she was gone. However, her decision was not surprising to me. Like my friend, many teenagers live a day to day basis by sayings such as, life s too short and you can never get second chance. These mottos often cling to juveniles, causing them to make rash and careless decisions. In today s day and age, teenagers are the one group of people that portray this reckless behavior. Although frowned upon in society, existentialism is commonly found in many pieces of literature. This theory usually highlights man s existence with society and the world. Prejudice include preformed opinions and views made prior to uncovering of the real facts and knowledge behind the subject from an individual, a group of people, or even the values and beliefs they espouse. Allowing racial prejudice to continue without any form of intervention would be opening doors to building up animosity and negative tension between involved groups (Augoustinos and Reynolds 244). Using the same example of racial prejudice, it would be apparent that the raised dissimilarities and opinions against either groups will be destructive in terms of building social cognition and cohesion among racial groups (Augoustinos, Walker and Donaghue 226). On the other hand, Rauch advocates for intellectual pluralism with the standpoint that it would provide protection for the vulnerable minority groups. As pointed out in his article on prejudice, pluralism conjectures that there will always exist such prejudices , which should instead be marginalized, exploited, ridiculed, but left alone at the end (Rauch 1995). It is evident that preconceptions and bigotries cannot be eliminated from every corner as presupposed by purist view. Contrary to Rauch s view that suppressing prejudice will be counterproductive, however, measures put across public utilities and institutions are beneficial in curtailing spread of malicious opinions. These include equal employment opportunity extended to all people by public institutions regardless of their racial background. Another effective measure has been the inhibiting of any form of racial utterances, abuse and actions in these institutions, especially violent behavior, motivated by racial hatred with the malicious intent of injuring a person of another race. • 39. Solar Power And Solar Energy Solar energy is capable of providing a cleaner energy than most forms of energy generation, and solar energy is able to be generated economically. Solar energy reduces the amount of harm to the environment from energy generation, by providing a cleaner alternative. Solar energy also provides jobs for construction and installation of solar powered technologies. The cost of installing solar panels can vary greatly, but its long term benefits outweigh the costs. Typically a solar panel system is a three kilowatts to eight kilowatts system that cost fifteen thousand to forty thousand dollars to install, total cost depends on circumstances of installation. However tax credits and incentives help recoup a portion of the cost in the first year, the savings of electricity cost makes installing the system profitable in under 10 years (Maehlum). Purchasing the system requires a large loan, however paying the loan can be substantially better than paying utility bills when the investment will eventually be paid for. If the system is large enough to handle the requirements of the household, the only payment for electricity will be the cost of the loan. Making loan payments instead of paying utility bills is predictable, and any excess energy will be used as a credit for months were the owner s energy use may exceed the generated amount. Within10 years of financing the solar panels, the cost of the solar panels will already made up by the cost savings from not paying for utility ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Becoming Vegan Or Go Home ! By Sarah Breslaw The Source of Veganism Finding a solution to sustain our environment has long been debated. In the essay Go Vegan or Go Home! , Sarah Breslaw asserts veganism as the answer to curbing environmental concerns. Breslaw makes a clear argument in her thesis and explains both negative and positive aspects of veganism but ultimately succumbs to logical fallacies, faulty sourcing and evident subjectivity which weaken her claim. Sarah Breslaw is a student at the University of California, Santa Barbara and has been a vegetarian for the past four years. Her personal nutrition habits and values can be attributed to her favorable stance towards plant based diets. The essay s context is set in the middle of the rising veganism fads popularized by celebrities and mainstream media. As a student, Breslaw s main audience are her fellow peers, professors and those concerned with lessening their carbon footprint. Moreover, her thesis statement becoming vegan is the responsible choice , explicitly outlines the purpose of the essay which provides the basis of why she believes the responsible choice to combat negative environmental effects is to become vegan. To establish credibility, Breslaw cites multiple sources of varying reliability. One source she uses solidifies credibility because it is published from a scholarly journal. The majority of her sources, however, are from sites such as, peta.org and vegan.org which have exceedingly biased agendas. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Love and Prowess in The Knight with the Lion Essay Love and Prowess in The Knight with the Lion The chivalric ideal demanded many things of a knight. To the military ideals of prowess, loyalty, and honor it added the aristocratic ideal of largesse and, with the rise of the troubadour lyrics and romances, the ideal of courtly love. At times a knight could find these demands in conflict with one another. Such is the case with Chrétien de Troyes s romance The Knight with the Lion. In this story, the hero Yvain finds love while pursuing prowess; but, continuing to pursue prowess, he loses that love. In the adventures that follow, he seeks to regain his love. In so doing, he develops true prowess without aiming for it and learns to reconcile chivalry s demands of love and prowess, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yvain s prowess is already great in this early part of the story, as we can see from his first two feats of arms. In the first, he defeats Esclados the Red, the defender of the fountain, by whom Calogrenant had been so disgraced. How good a knight Esclados defeated in Calogrenant, the story does not indicate, only that he is a most agreeable knight (258). We may perhaps assume that, being a knight of Arthur s Round Table, Calogrenant would have been a good fighter and his defeat more the exception than the rule. Regardless of his abilities, however, Calogrenant s failure at the spring serves one important purpose: it provides a backdrop against which Yvain s success there is seen to be all the more impressive. To this backdrop is added Calogrenant s description of the spring s defender: I thought there were at least ten. Yet there was only a single knight whose approach caused so much noise and commotion....As though bent on evil, he was riding up faster than an eagle and looking as ferocious as a lion....The knight had a good horse and a stout lance, and without doubt, he was a whole head taller than I....His lance was not light but, in my opinion, weighed more than any knight s lance. I have never seen one so large. (263) Besides this, there is the testimony of Calogrenant s courteous host: So far as they knew or had heard tell, no man, they said, had ever escaped the ... • 42. Essay on The Pros and Cons of Ethnographic Reflexivity The Advantages and Limits of Ethnographic Reflexivity Awareness of writing choices generates an appreciation of the reflexivity of ethnographic research. Reflexivity involves the recognition that an account of reality does not simply mirror reality but rather creates or constitutes as real in the first place whatever it describes. Thus the notion of reflexivity recognizes that texts do not simply and transparently report an independent order of reality. Rather, the texts themselves are implicated in the work of reality construction (Emerson et. al., 1995:213). According to Robert M. Emerson and colleagues, reflexivity is a method in which the ethnographer is aware that his/her writing choices are shaped to acknowledge the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In her ethnography she writes how she had to reconstruct her self in order to fit in to Japanese society. She looked Japanese but she did not act the way a native Japanese would act. Her informants than taught her how to act like a native and in this process she began to understand aspects of the Japanese culture. She mentions: These factors perhaps gave me a certain kind of participatory understanding of certain aspects of Japanese society. It also meant that, once I became an active participant in various groups (family, factory, etc.) my knowledge was circumscribed. For example, therefore did not have free access to certain people, and I could not ask certain questions that a foreigner less aware of indelicacy could have posed with impunity (84). In forming a self in Japanese society she notes that one is more accessible to gaining further understanding about the culture being studied. Thus, she critiques the traditional ethnographic methods because she finds that older text make objective assumptions that are not necessary the reality of a culture. The assumptions than are seen as the true reality and full understanding of a culture. On the contrary, reflexivity implies that ethnographic knowledge is intrinsically incomplete and relative (84). Thus she suggest, that the best path to studying cultures is to acknowledge our bias, assumptions and that of our informants to trace the parameters, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the Classical period, Greece succeeded its maximum level of success both culturally and economically. The ancient Greeks strode to perfect both the body and mind. Classism has caused a significant amount of changes in the art world which allowed them to express themselves through their art spiritually. Classism s qualities still are featured throughout the artworks that are being made today. Some of this movement s features would include how most of the sculptures that are done are idealized. Idealism is when someone is painted, or sculpted with the ideal body and face. Realism is another feature in Classical Art. Realism is seeking truth through the artwork, they could no longer achieve the look they were going for by just chiseling away at a block of stone. Therefore, they based they techniques on modelling, by building first out of clay on new models and then they would copy them into stone. One of the last main features in this movement would be how mathematically correct everything is. Artists in these eras were very conscious about correct proportions, measurements, and symmetry. That is how those artists made it possible to create such perfect and idealized masterpieces. A sculptural example of Classical Art is The Spear Bearer . This entailed careful observation of a model as well as understanding of the mechanics of anatomy of how a body shifts from a pose, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
