This document investigates a simulated 2.5 GHz 64 channel DWDM system over 140 km using EDFA and Raman amplifiers considering self-phase modulation. The simulation results show that:
1) The system with Raman amplifiers achieved a maximum gain of 12.36 dB, while the system with EDFAs achieved 13.01 dB gain in the C band region but only 5 dB gain in the S band region.
2) Raman amplifier networks are less prone to crosstalk and intersymbol interference than EDFA networks according to the eye diagram and eye width results.
3) Self-phase modulation affects the quality factor of the transmission and Raman amplifiers perform better than EDFAs in mitigating
