The document outlines plans for an indie/alternative music magazine, including naming it "InD" or "Alt.", article ideas, a double-page festival spread, featured bands, a £2 price point, and a pastel color scheme. Feedback from a focus group was positive about the magazine name, article ideas, festival spread, bands, and lower price compared to competitors. They suggested a band photo on the cover related to an article and printed t-shirts as free items. Most agreed pastel colors would make the magazine stand out visually from competitors.
2. Masthead Idea
For my masthead I am going to include “indie”
or “Alternative” within it so it makes it clear to
the audience what genre of music it is about.
I have thought about calling my magazine “InD”
or “Alt.”
3. Article ideas
The articles within the magazine are going to be:
• Gig/fest ticket competitions
• Interviews
• Upcoming events and artists/bands
• Reviews
• About festivals
• Posters
• “Top 20” songs
• Backstage information
I have gathered these ideas from my questionnaire
4. Double Page Spread
• I think my double page spread will be about a
festival. It will be about a big upcoming
festival (or 2), Best things to buy and where to
buy them, and what to take. I will include
pictures
5. Bands I will include within my
magazine
From my questionnaire I found out that my
target audiences favourite bands are:
• Imagine dragons
• The lumineers
• Noel gallaghers high flying birds
• The smiths
• The maccabees
6. Contents Page
I will include within my contents page
• Bold fonts
• Bright colours
• Pictures
• Editors note
• Features and regulars
7. Price
• From my questionnaire I have averaged it out
for my magazine to cost around £2
8. What to include to attract people to
the magazine
My answers from my questionnaire informed
me that the main things that attract readers to
the magazine are the picture, information about
articles and free stuff. I will make sure these are
the main 3 things I focus on when creating my
magazine
9. Colour Scheme?
• Pastel colours, with a bright header on front
cover
• Bold bright colours on the contents page
10. Feedback
From my feedback from my focus group, people have said that they thought calling
my magazine InD was a good idea, and that it was catchy. They thought that all of
the article ideas which were going to be included within the magazine were good
ideas, and that the double page spread should be about festivals and what you
need, etc, as it is a good idea and will be useful to most readers. They said that
bands that I am going to include were good for the genre I am doing and will appeal
to the readers. They said the cost was good as it was cheaper than other music
magazines so it will stand out, although some people said it was too cheap. I think I
will stick with my price of £2 as the people who said it will stand out had some good
points. My focus group thought that I should have a band/solo artist on my front
cover which could be related to another article within the magazine. They said that
for the free stuff I could do printed tshirts as they are quite cheap, they said if I did
CD’s I should up the price to around £3 which I think is understandable. Some
people said that bright colours would be outstanding and eye catching, but I
thought pastel colours would be better. 2 people from my focus group said pastel
colours would be a good idea as not many other music magazines are pastel colours,
they are bright, so therefore pastel colours would stand out more in a shop.
