My Brother Sam Is Dead Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "My Brother Sam Is Dead" can present both challenges and
opportunities for reflection. On one hand, the novel provides a rich tapestry of historical context,
familial dynamics, and moral dilemmas that can be explored and analyzed. However, delving
into the intricacies of the characters, their motivations, and the socio-political backdrop demands
a thoughtful and nuanced approach.
Addressing the complexities of war, loyalty, and personal convictions, the essay requires a deep
understanding of the characters' emotions and actions. It's not just a recounting of events but an
exploration of the underlying themes that resonate throughout the narrative. Balancing a
comprehensive analysis while avoiding superficiality can be a delicate task, demanding a keen
eye for detail and a grasp of the broader historical context.
Moreover, the challenge lies in constructing a coherent argument that ties together the various
elements of the story. Connecting the protagonist's journey with historical events, family
dynamics, and moral quandaries necessitates a skillful interweaving of evidence and analysis.
Additionally, the need for a unique perspective and original insights adds an extra layer of
difficulty. Many students may approach this topic, making it crucial to find an angle that sets the
essay apart. This requires a creative and critical mindset, coupled with the ability to articulate
ideas effectively.

for personal growth and intellectual exploration. It encourages the development of analytical
skills, historical awareness, and the ability to convey thoughts persuasively.

Benefits Of Getting Around Town
Getting Around Town Whether it be because they cannot afford it or they are not able
to, there are many people in America who cannot drive. Not only are cars expensive
but with high gas prices owning one is often times impractical. One economical
alternative to driving is taking public transportation. Both the Worcester Regional
Transit Authority (WRTA) and Montachusett Regional Transit Authority (MRTA or
MART) are two of the transportation authorities in Massachusetts. Like most things,
each transit system has its own flaws and attributes The most important aspect of a
transit system is its public access. The WRTA has 26 fixed routes, 4 shuttles and
paratransit for the elderly and disabled. The WRTA serves Worcester and its nearby

Similar to the WRTA, the MRTA runs full service on Monday through Friday with
limited service on Saturday, however unlike the WRTA, the MRTA does not provide
Sunday service. Both the WRTA and MRTA have varied public access to better serve
their communities. Another important aspect to public transit is their payment
policies. The WRTA has four methods of payment and two mediums riders can use.
The prices vary according to certain criteria. The most basic is a single ride. When
paying cash on the bus, a single ride for adults is $1.50; for those who qualify for
reduced fare, that is the elderly, disabled, and children between the ages of 5 and 13,
a single ride is 0.75. Children under 5 are always free. When using a Charlie Card,
adult fare drops to 1.20 and reduced fare drops to (0.65). The following two payment
methods cost the same regardless of whether a Charlie Card is used. The first of the
two is a Day Pass which gives riders unlimited rides for the date that the pass in
purchased. For adults, a Day Pass is 3.50 and for those who qualify for reduced,
passes are 1.75. The second of the two is a 31 Days Pass. A 31 Day Pass gives the
rider unlimited rides for 31 days after the pass is purchased. For adults a 31 Day Pass
is $48.00 and for reduced riders it is $24.00.
Like the WRTA, the MRTA has three methods of payment with two mediums. Similar
to the WRTA the prices vary according to certain criteria. Like the WRTA, the most

Summary Of Steven Pinker And The Language Of Instinct

Language and Learning
Individual paper: Steven Pinker and The Language of Instinct
Language is not a cultural artifact that we learn the way we learn to tell time or how
the federal government works. Instead, it is a distinct piece of the biological makeup
of our brains. Language is a complex, specialized skill, which develops in the child
spontaneously, without conscious effort or formal instruction, is deployed without
awareness of its underlying logic, is qualitatively the same in every individual, and is
distinct from more general abilities to process information or behave intelligently. For
these reasons, some cognitive scientists have described language as a psychological
faculty, a mental organ, a neural system, and a computational module. But I prefer the
admittedly quaint term instinct (4 5). In the book, The Language ... Show more

Pinker describes language as a human instinct and discusses the evolution of
language. Pinker, a psychology professor at Harvard University, provides a
thorough description of research he has done with children and animals to prove
how language is created, how it develops throughout life, and how it came to be in
the first place. Much of Pinker s book discusses developments made by Noam
Chomsky, an American linguist, and reproduces these developments in a more clear
and understandable form. Within The Language Instinct, Pinker discusses many
complicated topics like the idea of universal grammar, the separation between
language and thought, the difference between oral language and written language
and the evolution of language as well as
Social Norms In Frankenstein
The society accepts those who fit the norm and reject those who are the outliers.
What is considered to be socially accepted? In today s society, cultural norms are
heavily influenced by many factors: Celebrity, Models, Athletes, Influential Speaker
and even culture. These factors put societal norms in order. As one moves from norm
to another, they adjust their behaviour accordingly in order to feel socially accept
the desire to belong. In Shelley s book Frankenstein , the creature is the prime
example of someone who was rejected by the society norm. His abnormal behaviour
and unusual appearance did not meet the expectation and the continuous rejection
from human society only added more grief to his life. By combining all these
aspects, he struggles to achieve his essential survival needs The Maslow Hierarchy.
In Mary Shelley s book Frankenstein , the author established the creature to not be
successful in Maslow s Hierarchy because he did not exceed society s norms
expectation.

On the account of being alienated, his safety has become endangered and he
struggles to achieve the fundamentals of safety survival. It was about seven in the

the creature s poor lifestyle after being abandoned by his creator Victor
Frankenstein. In addition to his lack of food and shelter, he has no one who
resembles him to call help; thus his safety is endangered. As he walks into the
small hut with great curiosity, he was shocked at seeing the old man s flight as he
describes it He turned on hearing a noise and perceiving me, shrieked loudly and
quitting the hut, ran across the field with a speed of which his debilitated form
hardly appeared capable. (Shelley 180) Shelley uses cruel adjectives such as
shrieked loudly and ran across the field , to vivid the creature s fearful countenance
Technology s Negative Influence On American Culture
In general everything has its positive and negative sides, but has anyone thought
how technology could have a negative influence? With the new technology
everyday that maks life simple, lets people forget the negative side to it. Life is
somewhat becoming easier and the world is getting smaller, but everything has
consequences. People being further apart, being on the phone for hours, day after
day people loses deep concentration. Technology will have negative influence on
American culture. In the past, when someone is in need of certain information
usually spends time at the library between the books to gather some information and
that sometimes could take hours. Today from home and with one click, all the
information is easy access. Searching the web too much and having easy access
made people skim through the pages instead of the traditional kind of reading.
Nicholas Carr has mentioned in his article a study done by scholars saying, They

Eggsy is a young boy who has made quite a few bad choices in his life, these
circumstances lead to him getting arrested which in turns leads him to call for the
help of the Kingsman! I guess I helped bring him to life by thinking that he is a
very wirey scrappy kid who can get himself out of most problems, but underneath
all this he is actually very talented. So we tried to keep that in mind when it came
to the fight scenes. Did you know about the Kingsman comic book series before
you got the call? No I hadn t read the comic but when i heard we were doing the
film I read the comic before i read the script to try and see the style of the project.
How was it working with Taron Edgerton? Was there much collaboration with him?
We trained Taron for around 4/5 months he came in most days to do choreography

scenes are pretty big and to go from nothing to what we had as an end result he did

The Goal And Managing Production Management
The Goal paints a vivid pro trail of common difficulties faced in production plants
and by production managers everyday. In any company the goal is to make money,
however as a production manager that goal becomes your sole responsibility. The
entire purpose of a manager is to manage the production jobs in a systematic way.
Low production cost at a fraction of the time increases demand which increases
profit. This book addresses the fundamental skills needed to run and manage
production efficiently. Understanding what works for your company as well as
against is the first step in improving production efficiency. As a manager or company
head you must evaluate all aspects of your production plan and begin drafting
solutions. Eliyahu M.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

weighs in on his job. Since moving back home six months ago Rogo s family was
not adjusting well and the plant problems wasn t allowing Rogo to balance both
successfully. Their marriage begins to strain because of the devotion Rogo needs
to give to the plant. While in a team meeting Rogo starts to reflect of his life and
how he is back at square one is some ways. He thinks back on a conversation he had
with a college friend, Jonah. Jonah was a Physicist and in catching up they discussed
the production plant and the new implementation of robots on the assembly line.
Jonah didn t agree that the robots increased production efficiency; in this reflection
Rogo realized the goal of his company was to make money.
The Next day at work Rogo converses with Lou the plant s controller about the goal
of the plant, Lou agrees they discuss the tools used to tell if a company is making
money. Rogo knows he has little time to turn things around, but so much more is
needed so he decides he to talk to Jonah again. After finally getting a hold of Jonah,
Rogo gets 3 measurements with specific definitions to work out the goal, throughput,

The ground can be terraced to accommodate the pavers shape and size if your yard
is on an incline. This feature makes the pavers ideal for building highly functional
pathways. Your Walkway Will Be Customisable to Your Preferences You can
customise your walkway to fit your specifications or preferences. Pavers are easily
adaptable to even winding paths since the installers only need to cut them into the
necessary shapes. There are no limits to the configuration, curvature or length of
your walkways. In addition, the pavers come in all sorts of colours from cream to
chestnut depending on which pavers you decide to include in your walkway. For
a truly unique style, mix several colours together. Walkway Repairs Are Simple to
Perform With Pavers If a paver does crack or break, it is a simple task just to
replace it with another one. On the other hand, a poured concrete walkway will
need replacing when a crack appears to keep water from seeping under the rest of
the walk, which will increase the damage. All of the above reasons are why you
should select decorative concrete pavers for your walkway. Create imaginative
walkways in an ideal manner with these building

Cause Effect Essay Consequences of Too Many Cats
We have five cats that live in our house. This was not our original plan, but it turned
out that way. My family got two tortoiseshell colored kittens, Kit Fat and Minkie
when I was nine and my sister was seven. Two years later, we were preparing to
move to the country, and our pastor s daughter had three kittens to give away. Our
pastor convinced us that we needed cats outside in the country. At that age, Risa and I
were greatly in love with kittens. Subsequently, three tabby kittens named Duff, Muff,
and Buff came to live with us.
But alas, our move was delayed and these adorable fluff balls lived inside for the next
six weeks. When we finally moved, the whole family was too ... Show more content

Inappropriate elimination is the worst problem that multi cat households have to deal
with. We had to replace our family room carpet due to the constant urination on it.
Over the course of the years, we have caught four of our five cats urinating outside
their litter boxes.
The effect of a male cat upon the house can be unpleasant. Our male is neutered, but
due to being the dominant cat over four females, he feels the need to mark his
territory. Every once in a while, he will hose down a wall. Usually he will pick a wall
in the laundry room, or else he will mark the corners in the family room.
Finally, we have gotten this problem under control by not allowing the cats free
run of the house. This restriction was the only way to solve the problem., and it has
worked. Our cats are only allowed free run when someone is in the family room. At
all other times, they are confined in the laundry room, or workroom, or they are in
either my bedroom or my sister s bedroom.
Many smelly cat litter boxes is another effect of having many cats. This is one of
the most unpleasant aspects of cat care. Keeping litter boxes clean so they don t
smell requires work, but it is vitally important. Cats like to have plenty of litter
space. At one point, we had six litter boxes for five cats. Now we have four due to
managing the cats and curbing their free run of the house.
Each of our cats has its own special feeding needs creating a

an example of the security of person that is getting violated is, We have arrived at

the security of a person is being infringed is, And soon a terrible word was
circulating selection. We knew what that meant. An SS man would examine us.
Whenever he found a weak one, a musulman as we called them, he would write his
number down: good for the crematory. (Wiesel, p66). Last but not least the head of
the block said, Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you. For the first time,
his voice quivered. In a few moments, selection will take place. You will have to
undress completely. Then you will go, one by one, before the SS doctors. I hope
you will all pass. But you must try to increase your chances. Before you go into the

Causes Of Trucking Accidents
There are trucks of all sizes on the roads in Montgomery, AL. While truckers play a
vital role in the economy, they are also responsible for an increasing number of
accidents on the roads. Hardly a day goes by when an 18 wheeler is not involved in a
traffic accident.
The biggest problem is that trucking accidents tend to result in significant damage.
Whenever a truck is involved in an accident, other cars, passengers and pedestrians
also often get severely injured or killed. Compared to car accidents, trucking accidents
are associated with more severe injuries, including permanent injuries and disability.
There are many causes of trucking accidents including:
Truck Driver Fatigue: Most truckers drive for a living and often work long hours,
including night shifts. This often results in sleep deprivation and driver fatigue.
This can be a real hazard for the driver as well as those on the road, especially when
the vehicle in question is a truck. A significant number of trucking accidents are
because of exhausted and tired truck drivers.
Speeding: Speeding is a major problem with truck drivers. There is a general
perception that truck drivers tend to speed and drive recklessly because they feel
that they own the road. They are also quite confident that because of the large size
of their vehicle, they are least likely to be injured if an accident occurs. In addition,
truckers also tend to be impatient and have a tendency to overtake as well as drive
fast.

Importance Of Black Of Black Studies
Importance of Black Studies Over the course of the years that Black Studies has
been a separate functioning entity, there have been different ideological and
political reasons for why Black studies is needed in institutions of higher education.
Scholars such as Nathan Hare, John Henrik Clark, John W. Blassingame and
Devere E. Pentony have given their own varied rationales as to why they believe
Black Studies is a necessity within these institutions; if it is even one at all. Each of
these men have different opinions on this topic but they do share one similar
perspective. The historical importance of black peopleshould be taught and made a
fundamental component of Black Studies because in institutions of higher education,
where the populations are predominantly white, staying connected to the black
culture can be difficult. Getting educated about it enables students to stay connected
to their roots and use it to improve their future. Many black people grow up unaware
of who they are and where they come from because in the current education system
black people have been pushed to the side or spoken about very briefly. Students do
not understand the struggles of African Americanpeople, so therefore having courses
that educate them about the history of blacks, will spark understanding of black
people as a whole and there might be a change in black and even possibly white
communities. Within both of Nathan Hare s articles, he discusses his beliefs on what

similarly to a rubber band ready to break. In today s Army we have a large number

much different than our predecessors we carry our wisdom and savvy that can only

throughout our military history such as; weather, terrain, civilian population, ever

and he set the stage for change by chartering the Army Training and Leader

Professional Practice And How Does It Differ Between...
Introduction What is professional practice and how does it differ between patient
facing versus laboratory based clinical scientists? Is there in fact a difference?
Professional practice is one of the 5 domains of good scientific practice which
define the standards and values all healthcare professionals should strive towards.
Furthermore professional practice can be further divided into professional practice,
probity, working with colleagues and training and developing others. As can be
imagined all clinical scientists, whether in a patient facing role or not, will need to
embody each of these to be an effective healthcare scientist. Histocompatibility and
Immunogenetics (H I) is the branch of Clinical Science (Blood sciences) involved in
HLA typing and screening for solid organ and haematopoietic stem cell transplants
(Histocompatibility) and the genetics of major histocompatibility complex associated
disease (immunogenetics). Clinical scientists within this field have limited patient
interactions yet must still embody professional practice. Each of the following
statements will examine aspects of professional practice and how they impact on
clinical scientists within H I. Clinical scientists lead the way in innovation The
central tenet of professional practice and the core of the NHS constitution is to make
the patient your first consideration. While this includes concepts such as exercising
duty of care and keeping scientific skills relevant and up to date, it also

French Nouvelle Vague Movement
French Nouvelle Vague, also known as The French New Wave, is one of the most
influential and significant movements in the film history. The films produced during
French Nouvelle Vague has earned many praises and made a huge impact in the film
history.
French Nouvelle Vague lasted from the late 1950s to early 1960s. The movement
was founded by a group of film critics who wrote for Cahiers du Cinema, a French
film journal. In the group of film critics, there were Francois Truffaut, Jacques
Rivette, Claude Chabrol, Jean Luc Godard and Eric Rohmer. The film critics were
originally writers and they became well known, recognized directors through The
French Nouvelle Vague. They were exposed to foreign films after the Nazi

She was born in Belgium but worked in France. She was originally a photographer
before she released her first film, La Pointe Courte. She is considered as one of the
significant figures in the French Nouvelle Vague. She often collaborates with
filmmakers from the left bank. Her films were categorized as feminist as she
usually uses female protagonist. Representable film from Agnes Varda were La
Pointe Courte, which was released in 1955, Cleo from 5 to 7, which was released in
1962 and Jacquot de Nantes, which was released in 1993.
If the French Nouvelle Vague didn t happen and amazing directors of the movement
didn t exist, movies such as Bonnie and Clyde, Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield
wouldn t be the same without it. This shows the importance of The French New Wave
and the techniques and theories that came along with it. Movies nowadays adapt
those techniques and theories to look like they are today. The movement also gives
out a message that proves, without expensive and high technology filming
equipments or expensive fancy sets, great films could be made.

It is very hard for zoos to replicate the natural environment that the animal is used to
living in. Capturing animals is cruel no matter the reason. Animals have their own
rights, and animals have their own lives while they re out in the wild. Capturing
these animals destroys their way of life. For example elephants travel long
distances in the wild in large groups that is their way of life. When elephants are in
a zoo, they can t travel long distances, in fact, the amount they can move can barely
be named as worthy of travel. (List of Pros and Cons of Zoos). Experts, scientists,
and researchers who study elephants in the wild strongly opposed a similar capture

also detrimental to their health. We believe the time has come to consider them as
sentient beings and not as so much money on the hoof to be captured and sold and
displayed for our own use. (Zoos: Pitiful

Positive Effects Of Positive Reinforcement
Watson (1913) quoted, give me a dozen healthy infants, well formed, and my own
specified world to bring them up in and I ll guarantee to take any one at random
and train him to become any type of specialist I might select doctor, lawyer, artist,
merchant chief and, yes, even beggar man and thief, regardless of the talents,
penchants, tendencies, vocations, and race of his or her ancestors In the mid
1970s another scientist, Peter Lewinsohn argued that depression is caused by a
combination of different stresses in a person s environment and a lack of personal
skills. More specifically, the environmental stress cause a person to receive a low
rate of positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement occurs when people do
something or participate on something they find pleasurable and rewarding.
According to learning theory, receiving positive reinforcement increases the

Gun Control Is Bad Essay
The U.S. has the highest gun death and ownership rates in the developed world.
Americans are 10 times more likely to be killed with a gun than people in other
developed nations; with an estimated 300 million to 400 million civilian firearms,
the U.S. is by far the most heavily armed nations per capita. About 20 million to 30
million of those guns are semi automatic weapons, according to the National
Shooting Sports Foundation, a lobbying group that wants you to refer to these
weapons as modern sporting rifles. (Wing). Semi automatic weapons are self
loading weapons that could be sold for less than 200 dollars. Anyone can buy these
weapons, and federal law doesn t even require a license to purchase these guns. They

It was reported that the Las Vegas shooter used legal attachments that makes rifles
automatic. These attachments gave his gun the power to shoot 9 bullets per second
on the helpless crowd under him (Greenburg). However, despite these findings, the
company just announced its plans to begin to sell the product again (Mann). Studies
show that people who use a fully automatic gun to commit a crime, almost always
use altered semi automatic guns.( The Jack ). With that being said, many people
wonder what are the reasons people might need such dangerous guns in their homes?
This sparks the next main argument, and the answer is crystal clear. their simply isn
t a strong reason for these guns to be owned by the average citizen. High capacity
guns are not needed for hunting, and rarely used for sporting purposes. According to
Jason Marlar, a longtime firearm hobbyist hunters do not need semi automatic
weapons. Hunters don t even need a firearm as most games can be taken with a
bow. Why would a hunter need 9 bullets per second to kill an animal like a deer or
chicken? The same fact applies to self defense. People do not need a high capacity
gun to shoot a robber. If a person plans on needing a highly dangerous gun on an
everyday basis for protection that is a very rare circumstance. In this case that person
might find it helpful to seek outside help from the police. However, for the majority
of cases,

Our government and the manufacturers have pushed the industry for profit incentives
and the burning of fossil fuels which has provided Americans with easier ways of fuel
consumption. Lately, scientists have been trying to invent ways to cut down the
emission gases from the burning of fossil fuel which causes the pollution that causes
the green house gases that collect in our atmosphere. Car manufacturers need to find
a better way to produce fuel efficient vehicles and alternative sources of power for the
vehicles. Environmentalists are pushing for clean, renewable energy but have not
been getting support from the politicians. Environmentalists are being forced to
reconsider the options of using nuclear power as an energy source instead of the
many other alternatives that the environmentalists would prefer to use. Nuclear
power has advantages and disadvantages of use. The disadvantage is that one
nuclear power plant produces 20 ton of nuclear waste a year which is classified as
high level radioactive waste. It takes tens of thousands of years for nuclear waste
to reduce to a safe level of radioactivity. Where does this nuclear waste get stored? It
takes years for nuclear waste to cool down enough to have glass added to it and to be
stored in massive cement structures. The cost of maintaining these structures is high
because of the high level of security it takes to protect

1.Describe the mode of actions of the drugs that interfere with protein synthesis.
Drugs that interfere with protein synthesis are derived from various actinomycetes

Human Relationships In The Mayor Of Casterbridge By
Thomas...
Human relationships are so heavily complex due to fact that there are hostile and
compassionate aspects to them. Also, these complex relationships make it possible to
be physically close to someone without being emotionally connected to them. This is
shown in the excerpt from The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardythrough the
characters Mayor Henchard and his daughter Elizabeth Jane. The Mayor and his
daughter have a critical and unloving relationship resulting from their previous
estrangement and his judgmental personality. This relationship is also one sided
because Elizabeth constantly tries to adhere to her father s critiques after their
reconnection, but he remains cold and harsh. Their relationship is presented as toxic

After judging her speech, he moves on to criticizing her handwriting skills. He
believed that way proper young ladies wrote was about their sense of a refined
womanhood, which Elizabeth clearly did not posses. As she wrote to his dislike,
he says, Never mind I ll finish it. Thus, this again shows as Elizabeth attempts to
please her father s wishes he grows more distant and cold toward her. At the end of
the passage it says, the more interesting that her appearance and manners
became....the more she seemed so estranged to him. This proves that the chance of
Elizabeth making her father proud is almost impossible because he remains closed
minded toward her. The final use of the word estranged to describe how her actions
impacted their relationship shows that even though they live in the same house they
are strangers on an emotional level. The detailed encounters between Mayor
Henchard and Elizabeth shows just how cold hearted and unloving their alleged
father daughter relationship is because he never tried to accept Elizabeth for who she

Karen Horney is best known for her findings of feminine psychology, theory of

Horney was the relation I shared with her suffering from depression growing up. It
was her findings about life and her outlook of recovering from depression that
attracted her to me. She discusses the importance of everyone s role in their own life
on their mental health. Therefore, I appreciate her studies as I have been able to
apply them to my own life. Recovering from depression was not an overnight
process. However, I became in control of my own mental health in my life. Without

Hotel Room And Occupancy Rates
Our industry, the Global Hotels and Resorts, experienced strong growth over the five
years to 2015. Over the five year period, both consumers and businesses became more
confident about their finances and spent freely on luxuries, including travel. This
culminated in a substantial increase in travel rates and hotelroom and occupancy
rates, two indicators of a hotel s performance. Travel spending has also picked up
quickly, especially in emerging economies where tourism is on the rise. Global
tourist arrivals are expected to increase an annualized 4.8% over the five years to

Over the five years to 2020, revenue is projected to increase at an annualized rate of
3.4% to $978.7 billion. In 2016 there will be some new trends emerging as hotels
will have to compete with growing popularity of companies such as Airbnb.
Millennials have shifted the focus from hotel loyalty to more novelty related
experiences. The overarching experience that many of these hotels in the industry
are shifting to is updated bars and lounges that spill into the lobby. Renovation will
be on the upswing over the next few years as guests desire more technology, more
stimulating social experiences, and better food and snack choices. Hotels will be
looking to charge more fees and surcharges on amenities as occupancy rates increase.
This goes without saying, demand drives prices, and the hotel industry will be in the
driver s seat in the coming years.
Key external drivers which drive our industry are: 1) global tourist arrivals (Trends in

The Issues With Organizational Communication
Issues with Organizational Communication Crises are seen substantially as media
events. Therefore media coverage whether they have been natural or man made; is
indicative of how important, essential and even at times, how down right frustrating
the media has been and will continue to be before, during and after a crisis. Many
people tend to turn to the media and various different media sites (such as Twitter,
Facebook, etc.) to gain pertinent information regarding an event that has taken place
or that is on going. But this has not been done without any issues. When a crisis
occurs sometimes emotions take over and all other plans go out the window.
Communicationis nil at best which can mean that others will suffer. Organization
and communication is the key to the response and recovery efforts of a disaster. At
times before, during and after a disaster there is a lack of inter organizational
networking and/or communication. Inter organization networks are increasingly
portrayed as a more effective form of organization among businesses (Newell and
Swan, 2000). This is essential for businesses in order to be effective in coordinating
the work and required for the development of trust. This makes a huge difference in
the response and recovery phase.
During Hurricane Katrina crisis communication was a huge problem from which it
overshadowed the disaster itself and its aftermath causing politicians and government
officials to waste time arguing than trying to devise a plan to

small telescope that could magnify images about twenty times and through which he
could see the craters of the moon, the phases of Venus and sunspots, and four of the
satellites of Jupiter (now known as the Galilean moons). These observations marked
the beginning of an era in which man could come and look carefully for the first
time the universe that surrounds it. Galileo s observations supported the heliocentric
theory of Copernicus, raised a century earlier, and at a stroke disrupted ideas of
theological cosmology of the time, putting man in a place away from the center of
the cosmos and showing the imperfections of the stellar objects, all contrary to

The diversity of these is amazing, from relatively benign varieties to unilateral

Among the former are astrology and various magical ways to predict the future

Essay Bismarck Claims The Credit For German Unification
Bismarck Claims The Credit For German Unification
In the early 19th Century, the growth of nationalism and the growing economic
strength of the German states was very great. The German s shared a common
identity in the form of language race and heritage such as music, literature and poetry.
The growing improvements in communications and transport also brought the states
one step closer together. The reduction of the number of German states from 365 to
39 states made each state more economically and militarily stronger.
Conditions, particularly economic conditions, were such in 1862 that Bismarck was
able to build on them and gain the credit for their successes.

Nationalism was also at a great high in Europe even reaching to countries out with
Europe. The majority of middle class liberals wished to instate an elected
government with freedom of speech and press. It was clear that these aims could be
achieved through a unified Germany, therefore identifying the liberals with the
nationalist cause. In the 1840 s military manoeuvres and political decisions made by
the French which seemed threatening to the Germans provoked strong reactions from
many of the Germans leading to a growth in nationalism and the creation of
nationalistic songs, sung by the German troops such as, The watch on the Rhine .
The revolutions, which took place in France, Italy and the Austrian Empire along
with the fall of prince Metternicht, encouraged the German nationalists who longed
for a unified Germany. The middle classes also pressed for political reform. Revolts
in Prussia caused the king to create a Prussian national assembly, which in the end
failed due to lack of strong leadership and right wing oppositions to the collapse of
the assembly.

Tale Of Two Cities Resurrection
Tale of Two Cities Theme: Resurrection By Nathan Katolick In the novel: A Tale of
Two Cities, Charles Dickens uses many themes, including, revenge, resurrection,
redemption, etc. These are very important themes and are important to the novel.
Resurrection was the greatest theme besides redemption. To me resurrection
seemed more personal and integral to the story. It also held more of the story s
emotion from love to sadness. Resurrection also has a deeper meaning, being
symbolic of Christ s death on the cross and him rising from the tomb three days
later. The phrase recalled to life is the first bit of the theme of resurrection with Dr.
Manette s sentence being over and him being discharged from the bastille 18 years
later. The hidden papers in Dr. Manette s cell lead straight to the books climax,
Charles Darnay s sentence to be executed at the guillotine. Mr. Cruncher s grave
robbing shows the theme of resurrection when he literally raises people from their
graves. A huge surprise is based on Cruncher s failed attempt to dig up Roger Cly.

than the one before them, that they are less intelligent, less independent and most
importantly, more violent. We often look back at the civilizations before we
existed as less than or worse than us. They were less intelligent, less moral, less
fair, and ultimately they were a product of their time. They didn t know any better.
However, when looking back at them, we often forget those who were protesting,
who were speaking up, and who were expressing their beliefs the best way they
could. Whether that be through standing in the streets or taking it to the press, there
have always been people willing to fight. One of our best lenses to look at the past is
literature. Authors used their words to inspire and move people to stand up and make
a difference in all different time periods. The book Animal Farm by George Orwell
challenged the communist movement that he saw unfolding around him during the
40s. Even earlier than that, Thomas Paine published a pamphlet called Common
Sense, which called the American people into immediate action against what he
believed was a tyrannical rule by the British in 1775. Almost all dystopian novels are
a warning for humanity, pointing out the flaws in their systems and the terrible,
inevitable future. Those predictions are always taken from the world around them,
what the author is seeing and experiencing in real time. That s why

SOPA, DMCA, and HIPAA
With the introduction of computers and the internet opens limitless possibilities for
the world to become so much more interconnected and interactive. However, that
same limitless potential is both a blessing and a curse. The open internet is a system
that allows for unlimited access to almost any sort of information. That same
openness makes security for one s self difficult and there isn t anyone who is
completely secure. The introduction of the internet for broad use and public
consumption also came with the federal government s attempts to prevent the theft of
personal information. In the late 1990s, President Bill Clinton signed into law two
provisions to protect copyright and affordability of healthcare: the Digital Millennium
Copyright Act (DMCA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
In 2011, a bill was introduced into the United States House of Representatives called
the Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA) to combat online copyright infringement and
online trafficking in counterfeit goods. Obviously the DMCA and SOPA have much
more in common as they deal with copyright infringement. As such, they also have a
profound impact on information security. HIPAA is important as well as it keeps
confidential information like medical records to only be accessed by patients and
medical professionals. All three of them touched on an important subject, information
security, that warrants the
Adaptation Of The Ballad Of Hua Mulan
An Epic Hero Mulan The Ballad of Hua Mulan has many different adaptations to
consider; and while none of them offer a clear time period, (anywhere from 386
618 AD), they all agree on the main points of the story. News was sent throughout
China of the coming war, and the army required that all men of age be enlisted.
Hua Mulan; Hua being her last name, knew that her father was too old and frail to
engage in any sort of combat, so she decided to disguise herself as a man and enlist
in his stead as his son. Every version claims that Mulan served in the military for
twelve years, and performed many acts of bravery before returning home, only to
find that her father had already passed on. There are a few differences between the

Gang Leader For A Day Summary
The book Gang Leader for a Day by Sudhir Venkatesh is and interesting insight into
the life of a gang member, as well as people who live in the projects. When reading
this book, several sociological things stood out to me, however three things really
captured my mind. Those included social class differences, racial discrimination, and
power conflict theory. The book begins with a college student, Sudhir Venkatesh
going into the projects to interview poor African Americans on how life was for
them. After a run in with the local gangthere, he meets the leader of the gang JT,
who tells him if he wants to get to know the people who live in the projects, he has
to hang out with them. Sudhir takes JT up on his offer and begins to run around
with JT to observe how the gang works, and how people live in the projects. Sudhir
observed JT in most of his gang aspects, including their selling of crack, how they ran
the gang like a business, and how they kept peace with the surrounding neighborhood.

This meant people in the project could not get rid of the gang, and therefore were
subject to its leadership. And the main thing the gang liked to do was tax people.
As a car washer, Michael explained it, he and Kris paid T Bone (a gang member)
15 percent of their weekly revenue. Just as J.T. s foot soldiers squeezed a little
money from squatters and prostitutes, his higher ranked officers supplemented
their income with more substantial taxes. (Venkatesh 88). JT and the gang taxed
anyone and everyone who worked or lived in the projects. It wasn t just the gang
however; as Ms. Bailey had power as well and also taxed people who lived in the
projects. If you sold food out of your kitchen or took in other peoples children to baby
sit, you d better give Ms. Bailey a few dollars, or you might find a CHA manager
knocking on your door. (Venkatesh
What Is The Danger Of Slavery In Benito Cereno
Sometimes, people miss the dangers of a situation, even if they are obvious. The
same can be said about the dangers of an ideology. Benito Cereno, by Herman
Melville, is a civil war era novel that tells the tale of a slave ship taken over by its
cargo, and an outsider who continuously misreads the dangerous situation before him,
leaving him unaware of the reality on the San Dominik. Rather than focusing on the
abolishment of slaveryitself, Benito Cereno uses the ideologies of slavery, such as
equating slaves to animals or believing that Africans deserve to be enslaved, and
invalidates them as the novel progresses, thereby showing the dangers of lacking
homogeneity. Both the slave era mentality and society as a whole are embodied by
Captain Delano in Benito Cereno. By following this character in particular,
Melville emphasizes the magnitude of the ignorance that society possesses. A
prominent example is the idea that slaves are equal to animals, and the joy that
Delano feels as he watches the happy slaves. From Delano s perspective, Babo is, like
a shepherd s dog and on his face, sorrow and affection were equally blended (Melville
11). In Delano s eyes, Babo is Benito Cereno s best friend in the same way a dog
would be. Delano even asks Benito at one point if he would sell Babo to him, as
Babo is such a perfect slave: well mannered and content within confinement (40).
This is Melville s way of incorporating the beliefs of the society at the time into the
piece,
Persuasive Speech About Violence Against Women
What is so special about our humanity? As human, We can express ourselves
however we want, We know the differences between right and wrong, and equal
does not mean that we have to act exactly the same. But it does mean that i have the
exact same rights as you, and should be treated with the same amount with the same
amount of respect and dignity you would want to be given. It should not matter what
you look like, where you from, your gender, or who you love.
We are all different and that should be respected. Everyone should be treated equally,
because violence against women is unacceptable, because the LGBT community has
gone through so much crap but they always thrive, because undocumented
immigrants are treated like human garbage for coming into a country to build a better
life for themselves and their families.
Women are 90 percent of rape victims in the united states, and 13 percent of rape
victim survivors will attempt to commit suicide. Women ages 16 to 19 are four
times more likely to be raped than the general population. Imagine that a 16 to 19
year old girl at school or at a party or somewhere. She is getting sexually assaulted
by a man that probably has 100 pounds on her, and she is lying there helpless and
now imagine that this sweet girl that was just assaulted is your child. She does not
tell you because she thinks you won t believe her but instead attempts to kill herself
because she is ashamed that she could not stop it, or she tells you everything, and they
Simone De Beauvoir Sexism
Simone Lucie Ernestine Marie Bertrand de Beauvoir, more commonly known as
Simone de Beauvoir, was a French writer, intellectual, existentialist philosopher,
and political activist, feminist and social theorist. She was born to a respected
bourgeois family in Raspail in Paris. During the early years of her life Beauvoir
managed to complete her bachelorette in mathematics and philosophy. Later in life,
Beauvoir met and shared her life with Jean Paul Sartre. Beauvoir was not the writer
of one but many literary works that had a profound influence on many readers and
other feminist thinkers. Some of her best works include, L AmГ©rique au jour de
jour (America Day by Day), which talks about the social problems, class inequalities
and racial problems... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However the value of the book died down with the rise of other such feminist
authors like Betty Freidan, Kate Millet etc. But in my opinion it is Beauvoir s
highly analytical judgement of sexism that has given feminist theory a huge
contribution. Her argument that man is the essential and the woman is the other
only required for doing inessential work has a great appeal. She has also followed
up her argument with her most famous saying one is not born a woman, but rather
becomes a woman , where she explains that its only a woman s society that
subjugates her and makes a woman what she is and not what she would like to be.
What appeals to me Beauvoir s complete opposition to Freud s theory of Anatomy
is Destiny . The measures she advocated to overcome this disability of inferiority is
quite appealing as well. The idea that work can bring about equality and
independence of women has had a profound influence on many women that
patriarchy is not that powerful, the superior man does not have the right to dominate
solely on the basis of biology thus the distinction between sex and gender paved the
way for a greater fight that women had to overcome in a largely sexist
Internet Fraud Is Greater Than Ever
ote In a world amid the buzzing and beeping of smart phones, laptops, and tablets, our
susceptibility now to internet fraud is greater than ever. It s not incredibly uncommon
to hear of someone s experience with separation anxiety over their mobile device. and
although this may be common nature and just scream of the attachment issues we ve
developed with each new technological advancement becoming available on the
market, the preeminent problem is security. The deceit in the system is clear to see.
We lock our doors as a method of protecting ourselves in our homes and vehicles, but
what measure provides the same sense of security online? The passwords we create
that are intended to be a minimum of eight characters, include a number as well as at
least one capital letter, or special character has to be something that we can remember
and have committed to memory. The issue with this lies within the frequency of of
repetitive use of the same keyword/phrase. Director of IT for Bud Clary Automotive
and Senior Emerging Security Technology Engineer Consultant for Nike, Inc., Sherry
Carpenter, provides insight on the subject, With just over three billion people
accessing the internet everyday it s proven to be immensely important to have
firewalls, encryption tactics and Intrusion Prevention Systems in place to secure a
network from malicious traffic (including viruses, malware, ransomware, etc.)... By
merely opening an unknown attachment in an email, you risk infecting not
Online Learning Vs Traditional Learning Essay
There are two types of learning systems most commonly used in the world, Online
learning and Traditional classroom teaching. Online learning is basically a system
which involves electronic media and information. In simple it is getting training and
communication research through electronic media. It would not be wrong to call
online learning, the future of education. Online learning does have some weak
points, but the solutions that have been provided are more than enough to cover up
the cons. Online learning system is not perfect, it has some deficiencies, but it s
definitely the system of the future. Many people still prefer traditional universities
as the best way to get knowledge and a degree but online education is also a good
proven alternative. Through online education students can study in the environment
they find comfortable and the time they are free. All of this is for free as most
online course which universities offer don t have any fee or if some courses have
then that is very less as compared to the price of normal course at a university. This is
the reason which gives online education an edge over traditional classroom learning.
By using online education students can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, rather than being tethered to a specific time allotment, the online degree seeker
is able to learn with complete flexibility. This is ideal for those with unconventional
work hours, those working full time, serving in the military or those raising a family.
Moreover, the traditional method of lectures, books and desks may not be the
optimum learning environment for every student. In a New York Times article, experts
declared that the real promise of online education is providing learning experiences
that are more tailored to individual students than is possible in classrooms, which in
turn fosters the concept of learning by doing. Many students find this engagement
more useful and more
Analysis Of Three Sisters, The Time Span Of The Play
In Three Sisters, the time span of the play covers three years, starting from Irena s
20th birthday. At the start of the play, Irena was a cheerful, naГ
Їve dreamer. Even
though Irena is from an upper class family, her actions and words depicted her as
someone innocent and somewhat childish. Irena s fantasy about the life of the
working class made her very passionate about the concept of working from dawn to
dusk. She often wondered about the fulfillment of having a job, and disliked the
aristocrats meaningless lifestyle. Irena also adored the idea about being in love, she
believed that she will find her true love in Moscow. In fact, out of three Prozorova
sisters, Irena is most attached to Moscow. At the end of each act, she would state how
she missed her hometown dearly and wanted to return to her hometown.
The physical world of the play looks old and simplistic. The Prozorov household
looks grandiose but empty, the interior furniture and wallpaper are simple and
quaint. The emptiness of the house reflected the three sister s yearning for their
return to Moscow. Most of the furniture seen around the house, such as chairs and
tables, are made out of wood. A simple white laced tablecloth was placed over the
rectangular dinner table. Silverwares and cups were neatly placed in front of each
chairs as guests filed in the living room one by one. When guests entered the room,
they are greeted with candles from the chandelier as lunch was being prepared. The

Hurricane Lab Report
A tropical wave developed into a tropical depression about 140 mi (230 km) east of
the YucatГЎn Peninsula on August 17. Moving north northwestward, the depression
soon strengthened into a tropical storm. Early on August 18, the system crossed the
YucatГЎn Channel and entered the Gulf of Mexico. While nearing the coast of
Louisiana on August 19, the storm slowed down, turned westward, and intensified
into a Category 1 hurricane. Late on August 19, the hurricane attained its maximum
sustained wind speed of 80 mph (130 km/h). The cyclone curved west
northwestward and weakened slightly before making landfall near Crystal Beach,
Texas, with winds of 75 mph (120 km/h) around 13:00 UTC on August 21. At

The hurricane then curved northwest and intensified into a Category 2 hurricane on
August 27. Early the following day, the cyclone made landfall near CancГєn,
Quintana Roo, with winds of 105 mph (165 km/h). The storm weakened to a
Category 1 during its brief transit across the YucatГЎn Peninsula, before re
intensifying into a Category 2 hurricane over the Gulf of Mexico late on August 28.
The hurricane quickly strengthened, and attained its peak intensity on August 29 as a
Category 3 hurricane with winds of 115 mph (185 km/h). However, nearing the Texas
Gulf Coast, the storm waned in intensity, and was only a Category 1 hurricane by the
time it made a final landfall near Matagorda, Texas, on August 30. Continuing inland,
the hurricane weakened, and dissipated into a remnant low on August 31.[4] At the
hurricane s first landfall near the northeastern tip of the YucatГЎn Peninsula, little
information was documented on the storm s impacts.[3] However, as the storm
approached the Texas coast, widespread evacuations took place, including the
evacuation of roughly 50,000 people from Galveston alone. Upon making landfall,
the hurricane caused extensive damage in coastal regions. In Matagorda, storm surge
Diagnosing Miss Emily in William Faulkner s A Rose For
Emily
In William Faulkner s A Rose For Emily there is more than enough evidence to
determine that Miss Emily is mentally ill. Most of the clues and hints are subtle,
but when they are all pieced together the puzzle becomes clear. Not saying it is
clear as too what Miss Emily was suffering from, the only way to know that for
certain would be if the author or narrator told us in the text. We can conclude,
however, she was suffering from some form of mental illness. Miss Emily was seen
as a recluse and odd, but what no one in the town knew was that she couldn t help it
there was more going on with her then people could see.
By the story s conclusion, the reader can go back through the story and identify
many episodes where Miss Emily behavior ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When Miss Emily refuses to respond to a government letter regarding her taxes the
Board of Alderman comes to visit her. When she comes in she is cold to the
gentlemen, showing her lack of social skills which in many cases is a factor in
mental Illness. Also before Miss Emily makes the guests leave she tells the, that if
they still think she has taxes they need to see Colonel Sartoris, (Faulkner 149) who
has been dead ten years. This statement by Miss Emily could be seen as her minds
unwillingness to live in the present. Her mind belives what it wants which is also
the case after her fathers death. We see in the book that after her father s death and
her subsequent breakdown, Miss Emily was sick for a long time. This could mean
the state that Miss Emily refused to believe her father was gone. Right after the
death of her father, the ladies of the town come to Miss Emily s home to offer their
condolences, and they observe that she had no trace of grief on her face (Faulkner
151). The inability to either feel or demonstrate appropriate emotion, is a classic
symptom of mental illness. More explicitly, Miss Emily insisted to the visitors that
her father was not dead (Faulkner 151). For this reason, Miss Emily would not let
anyone remove her father s body until three days after her father should have been
buried. Finally the third day she broke down and let the townspeople remove the
body quickly

Europeans, for example, have been highly skeptical of any benefits they might gain
from GM foods. Many nations in the European Union (EU) have effectively banned
imports of what they refer to as Frankenfoods, a reference to the famous story of the
fictional monster assembled by Dr. Frankenstein from miscellaneous spare parts. The
U.S claims that the EU s anti GM food policy violates free trade laws.
Many questions remain regarding the future of GM foods. Should they continue to
be sold in the U.S., even though they may have unforeseen negative consequences?
Or should the U.S. take a cue from the EU and limit the selling of GM foods until
they are unequivocally proven to be risk free? Do the possible future health benefits
of GM foods such as fruits and vegetables with extra vitamins and vaccines built into
their DNA cancel out any potential risks that the new technology brings?
Supporters of GM foods say that since there has been no evidence of GM foods
harming humans, it is reasonable to assume that they are safe for consumption. GM
food backers denounce criticism of genetic engineering as fear mongering. Besides,
they argue, no new technology is without a certain degree of risk. GM food
supporters believe that the possible health benefits of GM foods overwhelm any
possible dangers.
Supporters of biotech crops also maintain that if GM food technology is allowed to
develop, it may prove to be instrumental in eliminating world hunger.
Battle Flag Essay
Many people believe the confederate flag is something of negative value when
actually it represents the freedom and personality of the south. All southerners know
we are considered redneck hillbillies When in reality our actions are just different
from those of the north, and west.
The confederate flag that we know today was not actually the flag that represents the
CSA (Confederate States of America) instead one similar to the USA with 7 stars
and 2 red stripes one white. Of course this flag introduced more stars as more states
joined but the concept is still the same. So instead of carrying the CSA flag into
battle the confederate troops carried the battle flag (even though it was never
officially named as the battle flag it was understood)
Notedly at the end of the year 1861 North Virginia made a (square)... Show more

It is the CSA flag we know but shrunk down and put in the corner with a vertical red
stripe down the side. But very few of these were very made. Now that you know
some brief history about the CSA flags we can dive into the Myths Vs Facts part of
this paper to prove people have twisted the flags meaning.
One of the most popular myth is that the Battle Flag represents the CSA. The
actually truth is that it did not they changed the flag three times and never
officially declared that as the CSA National Flag . The first flag was changed due
to the similarities to the USA. The second was modified due to the likeness to the
flag of truce. And the third was the one that was adopted. But it is not the flag we
have, today so the Stars and Banner is not the actual Flag that represented the CSA
so nobody can argue the fact that it was.
Another very common belief is that The Confederate Battle Flag represents racism.
But that statement is false. The Battle flag today is in the middle of a lot of
controversy about what it actually stands for in practically all of the
Hunting And Gathering Research Paper
What some of the society thinks is that farming was a good idea and others think
that it was a bad idea to bring into this world. Well, farming was the greatest
transition from hunting and gathering. It has caused people to not have to work just
to find tonight s dinner but instead to simply go to a market or a local grocery store
and pick out their fruit and protein. My first quote to support my statement is. As
farming provided humans with much greater quantities of foodthan hunting and
gathering could, populations grew. Storage of extra materials made it unnecessary for
every woman and man to farm for themselves and their family. Therefore, this quote
supports my statement by summing up the ways that farming has helped the
community grow for people and their families with the... Show more content on

With families being able to settle that meant that they did not have to move around
so often but with hunting and gathering you would have to move around more and
more to find places that had the greater food source to provide for your family.
Secondly, After all, aren t we better off today than hunter gatherers were, thanks to
our clever agricultural ancestors? We do not have to hunt wooly mammoths for
meat, dig for roots, chew hides to soften them for clothing, or build our houses
from hides, bone, and sinew. Our diets are rich in quantity and variety. Many of us
have too many material goods and, in many places, life expectancies have soared.
Surely, our lives today are a great improvement over the lives of hunter gatherers.
This second quote is just saying that thanks to our ancestors for coming up with
farming so we aren t slaving every day to stay alive and be able to do the things we
do today. Finally, Job specialization became possible, with different people
specializing in different tasks. Increases in population resulted in increases in social
and technical complexity, which in

Not only are cars expensive but with high gas prices owning one is often times impractical. One economical alternative to driving is taking public transportation. Both the Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) and Montachusett Regional Transit Authority (MRTA or MART) are two of the transportation authorities in Massachusetts. Like most things, each transit system has its own flaws and attributes The most important aspect of a transit system is its public access. The WRTA has four methods of payment and two mediums riders can use. The prices vary according to certain criteria. The most basic is a single ride. When paying cash on the bus, a single ride for adults is $1.50; for those who qualify for reduced fare, that is the elderly, disabled, and children between the ages of 5 and 13, a single ride is 0.75. Children under 5 are always free. When using a Charlie Card, adult fare drops to 1.20 and reduced fare drops to (0.65). The following two payment methods cost the same regardless of whether a Charlie Card is used. The first of the two is a Day Pass which gives riders unlimited rides for the date that the pass in purchased. For adults, a Day Pass is 3.50 and for those who qualify for reduced, passes are 1.75. The second of the two is a 31 Days Pass. A 31 Day Pass gives the rider unlimited rides for 31 days after the pass is purchased. For adults a 31 Day Pass is $48.00 and for reduced riders it is $24.00. • 3. Summary Of Steven Pinker And The Language Of Instinct Elise Brown 11/23/14 Language and Learning Individual paper: Steven Pinker and The Language of Instinct Language is not a cultural artifact that we learn the way we learn to tell time or how the federal government works. Instead, it is a distinct piece of the biological makeup of our brains. Language is a complex, specialized skill, which develops in the child spontaneously, without conscious effort or formal instruction, is deployed without awareness of its underlying logic, is qualitatively the same in every individual, and is distinct from more general abilities to process information or behave intelligently. For these reasons, some cognitive scientists have described language as a psychological faculty, a mental organ, a neural system, and a computational module. But I prefer the admittedly quaint term instinct (4 5). In the book, The Language ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pinker describes language as a human instinct and discusses the evolution of language. Pinker, a psychology professor at Harvard University, provides a thorough description of research he has done with children and animals to prove how language is created, how it develops throughout life, and how it came to be in the first place. Much of Pinker s book discusses developments made by Noam Chomsky, an American linguist, and reproduces these developments in a more clear and understandable form. Within The Language Instinct, Pinker discusses many complicated topics like the idea of universal grammar, the separation between language and thought, the difference between oral language and written language and the evolution of language as well as

In today s society, cultural norms are heavily influenced by many factors: Celebrity, Models, Athletes, Influential Speaker and even culture. These factors put societal norms in order. As one moves from norm to another, they adjust their behaviour accordingly in order to feel socially accept the desire to belong. In Shelley s book Frankenstein , the creature is the prime example of someone who was rejected by the society norm. His abnormal behaviour and unusual appearance did not meet the expectation and the continuous rejection from human society only added more grief to his life. By combining all these aspects, he struggles to achieve his essential survival needs The Maslow Hierarchy. It was about seven in the morning and I longed to obtain food and shelter. (Shelley 179) Shelley describes the creature s poor lifestyle after being abandoned by his creator Victor Frankenstein. In addition to his lack of food and shelter, he has no one who resembles him to call help; thus his safety is endangered. As he walks into the small hut with great curiosity, he was shocked at seeing the old man s flight as he describes it He turned on hearing a noise and perceiving me, shrieked loudly and quitting the hut, ran across the field with a speed of which his debilitated form hardly appeared capable. (Shelley 180) Shelley uses cruel adjectives such as shrieked loudly and ran across the field , to vivid the creature s fearful countenance

I guess I helped bring him to life by thinking that he is a very wirey scrappy kid who can get himself out of most problems, but underneath all this he is actually very talented. So we tried to keep that in mind when it came to the fight scenes. Did you know about the Kingsman comic book series before you got the call? No I hadn t read the comic but when i heard we were doing the film I read the comic before i read the script to try and see the style of the project. How was it working with Taron Edgerton? Was there much collaboration with him? We trained Taron for around 4/5 months he came in most days to do choreography / weights and weapon work. It was a very tough thing for him to do as the action scenes are pretty big and to go from nothing to what we had as an end result he did amazing. He got stuck in and the transformation form week one to week 16 was impressive. Walters as Gary Eggsy

My family got two tortoiseshell colored kittens, Kit Fat and Minkie when I was nine and my sister was seven. Two years later, we were preparing to move to the country, and our pastor s daughter had three kittens to give away. Our pastor convinced us that we needed cats outside in the country. At that age, Risa and I were greatly in love with kittens. Subsequently, three tabby kittens named Duff, Muff, and Buff came to live with us. Inappropriate elimination is the worst problem that multi cat households have to deal with. We had to replace our family room carpet due to the constant urination on it. Over the course of the years, we have caught four of our five cats urinating outside their litter boxes. The effect of a male cat upon the house can be unpleasant. Our male is neutered, but due to being the dominant cat over four females, he feels the need to mark his territory. Every once in a while, he will hose down a wall. Usually he will pick a wall in the laundry room, or else he will mark the corners in the family room. Finally, we have gotten this problem under control by not allowing the cats free run of the house. This restriction was the only way to solve the problem., and it has worked. Our cats are only allowed free run when someone is in the family room. At all other times, they are confined in the laundry room, or workroom, or they are in either my bedroom or my sister s bedroom. Many smelly cat litter boxes is another effect of having many cats. This is one of the most unpleasant aspects of cat care. Keeping litter boxes clean so they don t smell requires work, but it is vitally important. Cats like to have plenty of litter space. At one point, we had six litter boxes for five cats. Now we have four due to managing the cats and curbing their free run of the house. Each of our cats has its own special feeding needs creating a

A significant number of trucking accidents are because of exhausted and tired truck drivers. Speeding: Speeding is a major problem with truck drivers. There is a general perception that truck drivers tend to speed and drive recklessly because they feel that they own the road. They are also quite confident that because of the large size of their vehicle, they are least likely to be injured if an accident occurs. In addition, truckers also tend to be impatient and have a tendency to overtake as well as drive fast. Distracted

Importance Of Black Of Black Studies Importance of Black Studies Over the course of the years that Black Studies has been a separate functioning entity, there have been different ideological and political reasons for why Black studies is needed in institutions of higher education. Scholars such as Nathan Hare, John Henrik Clark, John W. Blassingame and Devere E. Pentony have given their own varied rationales as to why they believe Black Studies is a necessity within these institutions; if it is even one at all. Each of these men have different opinions on this topic but they do share one similar perspective. The historical importance of black peopleshould be taught and made a fundamental component of Black Studies because in institutions of higher education, where the populations are predominantly white, staying connected to the black culture can be difficult. Getting educated about it enables students to stay connected to their roots and use it to improve their future. Many black people grow up unaware of who they are and where they come from because in the current education system black people have been pushed to the side or spoken about very briefly. Students do not understand the struggles of African Americanpeople, so therefore having courses that educate them about the history of blacks, will spark understanding of black people as a whole and there might be a change in black and even possibly white communities. Within both of Nathan Hare s articles, he discusses his beliefs on what Black Studies can

  • 15. Professional Practice And How Does It Differ Between... Introduction What is professional practice and how does it differ between patient facing versus laboratory based clinical scientists? Is there in fact a difference? Professional practice is one of the 5 domains of good scientific practice which define the standards and values all healthcare professionals should strive towards. Furthermore professional practice can be further divided into professional practice, probity, working with colleagues and training and developing others. As can be imagined all clinical scientists, whether in a patient facing role or not, will need to embody each of these to be an effective healthcare scientist. Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H I) is the branch of Clinical Science (Blood sciences) involved in HLA typing and screening for solid organ and haematopoietic stem cell transplants (Histocompatibility) and the genetics of major histocompatibility complex associated disease (immunogenetics). Clinical scientists within this field have limited patient interactions yet must still embody professional practice. Each of the following statements will examine aspects of professional practice and how they impact on clinical scientists within H I. Clinical scientists lead the way in innovation The central tenet of professional practice and the core of the NHS constitution is to make the patient your first consideration. While this includes concepts such as exercising duty of care and keeping scientific skills relevant and up to date, it also

More specifically, the environmental stress cause a person to receive a low rate of positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement occurs when people do something or participate on something they find pleasurable and rewarding. According to learning theory, receiving positive reinforcement increases the chances that people will do repeatedly the sorts of actions they have taken previously that led them to receive that reinforcement. • 35. The Issues With Organizational Communication Issues with Organizational Communication Crises are seen substantially as media events. Therefore media coverage whether they have been natural or man made; is indicative of how important, essential and even at times, how down right frustrating the media has been and will continue to be before, during and after a crisis. Many people tend to turn to the media and various different media sites (such as Twitter, Facebook, etc.) to gain pertinent information regarding an event that has taken place or that is on going. But this has not been done without any issues. When a crisis occurs sometimes emotions take over and all other plans go out the window. Communicationis nil at best which can mean that others will suffer. Organization and communication is the key to the response and recovery efforts of a disaster. At times before, during and after a disaster there is a lack of inter organizational networking and/or communication. Inter organization networks are increasingly portrayed as a more effective form of organization among businesses (Newell and Swan, 2000). This is essential for businesses in order to be effective in coordinating the work and required for the development of trust. This makes a huge difference in the response and recovery phase. During Hurricane Katrina crisis communication was a huge problem from which it overshadowed the disaster itself and its aftermath causing politicians and government officials to waste time arguing than trying to devise a plan to

Resurrection was the greatest theme besides redemption. To me resurrection seemed more personal and integral to the story. It also held more of the story s emotion from love to sadness. Resurrection also has a deeper meaning, being symbolic of Christ s death on the cross and him rising from the tomb three days later. The phrase recalled to life is the first bit of the theme of resurrection with Dr. Manette s sentence being over and him being discharged from the bastille 18 years later. There are countless articles about how the next generations will be so different than the one before them, that they are less intelligent, less independent and most importantly, more violent. We often look back at the civilizations before we existed as less than or worse than us. They were less intelligent, less moral, less fair, and ultimately they were a product of their time. They didn t know any better. However, when looking back at them, we often forget those who were protesting, who were speaking up, and who were expressing their beliefs the best way they could. Whether that be through standing in the streets or taking it to the press, there have always been people willing to fight. One of our best lenses to look at the past is literature. Authors used their words to inspire and move people to stand up and make a difference in all different time periods. The book Animal Farm by George Orwell challenged the communist movement that he saw unfolding around him during the 40s. Even earlier than that, Thomas Paine published a pamphlet called Common Sense, which called the American people into immediate action against what he believed was a tyrannical rule by the British in 1775. However, that same limitless potential is both a blessing and a curse. The open internet is a system that allows for unlimited access to almost any sort of information. That same openness makes security for one s self difficult and there isn t anyone who is completely secure. The introduction of the internet for broad use and public consumption also came with the federal government s attempts to prevent the theft of personal information. In the late 1990s, President Bill Clinton signed into law two provisions to protect copyright and affordability of healthcare: the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. In 2011, a bill was introduced into the United States House of Representatives called the Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA) to combat online copyright infringement and online trafficking in counterfeit goods. Obviously the DMCA and SOPA have much more in common as they deal with copyright infringement. As such, they also have a profound impact on information security. HIPAA is important as well as it keeps confidential information like medical records to only be accessed by patients and medical professionals. • 45. What Is The Danger Of Slavery In Benito Cereno Sometimes, people miss the dangers of a situation, even if they are obvious. The same can be said about the dangers of an ideology. Benito Cereno, by Herman Melville, is a civil war era novel that tells the tale of a slave ship taken over by its cargo, and an outsider who continuously misreads the dangerous situation before him, leaving him unaware of the reality on the San Dominik. Rather than focusing on the abolishment of slaveryitself, Benito Cereno uses the ideologies of slavery, such as equating slaves to animals or believing that Africans deserve to be enslaved, and invalidates them as the novel progresses, thereby showing the dangers of lacking homogeneity. Both the slave era mentality and society as a whole are embodied by Captain Delano in Benito Cereno. By following this character in particular, Melville emphasizes the magnitude of the ignorance that society possesses. A prominent example is the idea that slaves are equal to animals, and the joy that Delano feels as he watches the happy slaves. From Delano s perspective, Babo is, like a shepherd s dog and on his face, sorrow and affection were equally blended (Melville 11). In Delano s eyes, Babo is Benito Cereno s best friend in the same way a dog would be. Delano even asks Benito at one point if he would sell Babo to him, as Babo is such a perfect slave: well mannered and content within confinement (40). This is Melville s way of incorporating the beliefs of the society at the time into the piece,

It should not matter what you look like, where you from, your gender, or who you love. We are all different and that should be respected. Everyone should be treated equally, because violence against women is unacceptable, because the LGBT community has gone through so much crap but they always thrive, because undocumented immigrants are treated like human garbage for coming into a country to build a better life for themselves and their families. However the value of the book died down with the rise of other such feminist authors like Betty Freidan, Kate Millet etc. But in my opinion it is Beauvoir s highly analytical judgement of sexism that has given feminist theory a huge contribution. She has also followed up her argument with her most famous saying one is not born a woman, but rather becomes a woman , where she explains that its only a woman s society that subjugates her and makes a woman what she is and not what she would like to be. What appeals to me Beauvoir s complete opposition to Freud s theory of Anatomy is Destiny . The measures she advocated to overcome this disability of inferiority is quite appealing as well. The idea that work can bring about equality and independence of women has had a profound influence on many women that patriarchy is not that powerful, the superior man does not have the right to dominate solely on the basis of biology thus the distinction between sex and gender paved the way for a greater fight that women had to overcome in a largely sexist
