This proposal outlines Adam Christie-Mileham's final major project (FMP) documentary about tattoos. Tattooing is the focus for the project
my project is going to be documentary based and focus on a subject that is close to home for me
and is quite a personal project for me and could be for many others ill be using interviews and
visuals mixed also with lots of photography to show off as much as I can about this project.
Rationale:
In these two years of college, I’ve acquired a lot of skills that will help me with this project and any
future projects I go on to make outside college like technical skills with learning software in much
more depth like premier pro and photoshop which I only knew little bits about now I know how to
make my way around making videos and editing images much more proficiently, these are
important skills to have. My previous project was a factual based one where I went with making a
short film about growing up in small villages and how it ties in with fantasy elements and folklore
which I shot mainly at night-time, and it was very experimental for my work but it helped me with
making video projects and it made me really want to work on video more hence why I chose my
fmp to be mainly video based.
Project Concept:
this project I’m going to be making a documentary all about tattoos and make it mainly about
peoples opinions on them but also talk about different subcultures that exist and show off their
styles as I really want people to know that it isn’t just criminals and bad people that have tattoos as
many people still think that way especially from the older generations so my aim with this
documentary is to mainly educate those people and help highlight some of the work artists are
doing. I’m going to do some sets of interviews with people with tattoos and tattoo artists so I can
get a variety of video for the projects and id like to get lots of footage of people’s collections of
tattoos and then video of tattoo artists working. I’ll be doing lots of research into films and other
documentaries about tattooing and subcultures to gain ideas and inspiration. I know a lot about
tattoos, and I’m really interested in talking about them but finding a way to show off all that in video
is going to be tricky as its not something g I’ve filmed before or know how to make so ill have to
learn from others work.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:.
Ill be keeping a diary of my work mainly when I do big parts of the project as there’s no point doing
one every day as it will get repetitive and not everyday ill be doing something new or as important.
I’m also going to do a few vlog journals where I do a video screen capture of the editing, I working
on to show what I do to get the style I want and to show off how I work which I think will be helpful
for people to mark my work off. I will also be going through my own work in my evaluation
document where I explain what made me make the decisions I did in my workflow and why I did it
that way making sure I explain exactly what I was thinking,
