- 1. Music Video Mid Way Evaluation By Sarah Murray I have just finished editing my rough music video edit and it is uploaded to YouTube. I have just received feedback on it, the majority of the feedback was good but there were a few comments which criticised my work. I knew it myself that there was things that needed changing, parts of it which I hated and knew that they required changes. The song that is featuring in my video is Hey Brother by Avicii it is quite a fast up beat song so therefore required fast cutting and short and snappy clips. I really enjoyed editing to this song as I liked getting it to match the music properly. The song was slightly too long so I cut it a little, I don’t think you can tell, well I hope you can’t. On a few clips the cutting needs tidying up as some of the clips don’t work, I knew this myself then when I got feedback it got brought up. So the improvements I’m going to make when creating my final edit will be to tidy up cutting and move about some of the clips to see where they fit best. It might just be the case to completely remove certain clips which I have never really thought worked. I know that I can get it to the best of my ability with a few certain changes. There are some bits which I’m really happy with, where the filming is good and where it fits with the edit. I really like the fact how the general concept and story of the video is blatant. People that have watched it understood the impression we were trying to portray. The effectiveness of the clips of the Brother and Sister were mirrored during the editing, as though they were doing similar stuff which related them and then they eventually meet at the end. It helps the understanding of the story to succeed. One thing I did differently in my edit compared to my partners Emily and Shauna was at the beginning I overlaid footage by changing the opacity of the clips so you see a clip over another clip. One thing I was told wouldn’t work well in our edits was transitions and to try and avoid using them. But I added a couple and were told that they went really well with the timing of the music, so I’m quite happy about that. Another thing I like about the video is at the beginning how there is no music it is just the background audio on the clips then the music starts straight away as the brother presses play. One clip was really effective and important but it wasn’t perfect, so I edited it by jump cutting it which makes it look better. It’s one of the last shots where it pans around the room and focuses out of the window. Another slight problem I had in the filming process of the video was during the shot in Manchester town centre. There was a slight problem with the tripod so some of the clips are a bit unstable. But obviously there is not much I can do about that now and it isn’t really to do with the editing. However sometimes it did effect the editing as some clips didn’t fit well together because of it but that’s sorted now. The improvements I need to make are not going to be too hard to do, I hope. It’s pretty much just to tidy up the cutting. To adjust some of the jump cutting I used towards the end of the video make the cuts sand jumps a bit bigger each time. Maybe as well during the after effects process there will probably be some colour correction effects added to just give the overall video a better look. Maybe some Brightness enhancing or downgrading, I might even just see what the clips look like in black and white. Because overall when I was planning the video I could picture the clips being a bit more dull to enhance the feel of the video. I just think it would give off the feeling of loneliness and sadness as the brother and sister aren’t meant to of seen or heard from each other for years. But I don’t know whether black and white would be too much. I’ll just have to experiment.
- 2. I know that the video didn’t completely stick to the storyboards I drew up. However the concept of the clips hasn’t changed the clips just aren’t in the exact same order they were on the storyboard. Or aren’t exactly the same as they were on the storyboard.
