What is Copyright and what does it protect?
Copy right is basically what stops people from
using or stealing a print, a film, published
writing, Artistry, Musical Material and Recorded
Literacy. It gives you a legal right to your own
work, so if it is your original content then it
should remain yours and no one should be able
to use it unless granted permission from the
official owner. It is actually illegal to use
material that has been copyrighted by the
original creator/owner. A good example of
Copyrighting being slightly breached is the Chill
Factore in Manchester. They originally wanted
to name the company Chill Factor but there is
already another place called that so they had to
change it. And by doing so the only way they
could do it without ruining the whole name
would be to add the little ‘e’ on the end. So they
then officially called it Chillfactore. After they
changed it there was no breach and they could
then carry on under that name legally.
How can you use ‘Copyright Hub’ to get permission to use images?
Copyright Hub is a website that allows you to discover whether an image has been Copyrighted. If an
image has got copyright and the Hub detects it then you can find out who owns the right to it and can
try to grant you permission to use someone else's material. It is also quite informative giving you the
information you need to understand copyright and ways around it. On the homepage it gives you 3
options; the first is if you want to find out about copyright, the second one is if you want to get
permission to use text, images, music or video and then the third one is if you want to get protection for
your own work. You can also find the owner of images, text and other multi media as another option. I
tried to use this site with some of the image logos I used on my front page but as they’re not big
companies Copyright Hub didn't detect them and the relevant companies had all rights.
What are the organisations that you can
contact to gain access to use images legally?
There are several ways to get images legally by contacting
an owner. The British Association of Picture Libraries and
Agencies (BAPLA) help you locate the license that is
created to your standards once you’ve found an image.
Then there is a site called Getty images which allows you
to search through their website to find an image using
keywords. Then there is the BBC where a fee is paid during
a business-to-business service where a copyrighted image
can be used for editorial, print or digital use. And then the
last option is the Design and Artists Copyright Service
(DACS), is an organisation where you can reproduce the
work of an artist by contacting them in various ways.
Beast Rampz I used both of these images the first
animated logo was on the front cover
and the second picture inside the park is
on the double page spread.
I found these images on the Beast
Rampz Website and ALL rights to the
images belong to them.

Union Jack This features on the fron cover of
my magazine. This actual image
file was found from
http://www.clker.com/clipart-
union-jack-flag.html
Online there is nothing to say it
belongs to anyone specific. So is
free to use in itself but the one I
used belongs to the site link
above.
Dialled The image I used was
from the Inside Scooters
blog which is advice
about the sport. They
used the image just the
same as I have done.
The only website link
direct to Dialled I can find
is the one for the
competition
advertisements. I'm not
too sure who owns the
rights to the images. But
as they’re not a big
company I would think
they would have their own
rights and it belongs to
them
