I talk about how getting lower grades in school does not mean you have to settle for less. School is not for everyone and we can create our own pathways.
1. College Timetables News Story Research
I am currentlydoinga full time college course atEcclesCollege andIpersonallyfeelthatmyweekly
lessontimetable isterrible.Idon’tknowwhethertheycanbe improvedbecause of the rooming
situationsand otherdifficultieswithtutor’savailability. Fromthe startof my secondyearI have had
massive breaksinthe middle of lessonsduringthe week.Mymostexcessive one is3hours whichis
followedbyanhour lessonatthe endof it,it’sjustridiculous. Especiallywhenthere aren’tmany
decentfacilitiesatwhichIcan complete work.Due tome beingaMediastudentI needaccessto a
lotof software’swhichare onlyonthe mediacomputers.Andduringmybreaksthe majorityof the
mediaroomsare takenup. Howeverthere wasone debate amongstusthatsome of myfriends
whichdo A-Level Mediaandfilmhave freesasimilartime tome sowho isinthe mediarooms?
There are otherclasseswhichuse the roomsbutI don’tquite understand.
So I constructeda quick3 questionsurveytofindouthow otherstudentsfeel abouttheircollege
timetables.Upto nowI have had 14 responseswhichare enoughtodiscuss.
The firstquestionIaskedwas‘Are you happywithyourcurrentcollege timetable?’byaskingthis
questionIinstantlyknow how relevantmystory
will be tothe public.Andas youcan see fromthe
resultsthe majoritysaidthattheywere not
happywiththeirtimetables.71.43% of the
people thatcompletedmysurveysaidthey
weren’thappy.There were asmall percentage of
my responsesthatsaidtheywere happywith
theirtimetables.Thiswas28.57% whichwas 4
out of 14 people.Soit’sapparentthatmy news
storywon’tbe relevanttoeverycollege student
as some people are happywiththeirtimetables.
HoweverIwouldsaymy storywill be successful
as there are quite ahighpercentage of people thatobviouslyaren’thappy.Andbyproducing anews
storyabout the problemandhavingitbe explainedbythe memberof staff thatdealswithitI think
will helpthe studentsunderstandthe processabitmore.
The secondquestionIaskedwas‘Do youhave longbreaksin betweenlessons?’ The diference inthe
percentagesforthisquestionwerealot
greateras youcould have bigbreaksin
betweenlessonsbutstilllikeyourtimetble.
Sometimesitsnice tohave breaksbutwhen
they’re tothe extento3 hoursit justgets
ridiculous.Sothe majorityof peoplesaid
theydidhave bigbreaks,85.71% whichis
12 out of 14 people.Then withatiny
percentage of 14.29 saidno. By asingthis
questionitgave me an ideawhether
everyone else suffersfromsuchlong
2. breaks.Thenthe nextquestionleadsonfromthisone.
The third andfinal questionIaskedwas‘Are there manyfacilitiesavailable foryoutocomplete work
duringbreaksincollege?’ Iaskedthisquestion
because the youare supposedtodowork
whenyouhave free’s.Butif youneedcertain
facilitiesandequipmentinordertodowork
and itisntavailable toyouhow are youmeant
to do it?Thisis my mainargument,whythey
wouldgive suchlongbreakstoa subjectthat
can hardlydo weorkdutingthem.Sothe
majorityof the responcesI got back were for
the secondanswerwhichwasYes butnot with
the correct service oravailability.The
percentage was50% thenthe nextmost
popularanswerwasNowitha percentage of
28.57%. There wasthen3 people thatsaid
theydo have facilitiestheycanuse tocomplete workduringbreaks.SoIwouldsayI have more
people onmyside thanagainstme. So whenIconduct my interview I canbe sure that I am not the
onlypersonthatfeelsthe wayI doabout the college timetables!
