Song Idea
‘Hey there Delilah’ by The Plain White T’s
 Why?
I have chosen the song ‘Hey there Delilah’ by The Plain White T’s
due to the fact I personally like the lyrics of the song and believe
it is a good song to engage audiences; them being able to relate
to the lyrics.
 Music Video Idea
The music video idea I have is using the forms of narrative and
performance to engage the audience and allow them to relate to
the story as well as have a relationship with the artist due to
watching them perform.
I shall use a male artist playing an acoustic guitar in a studio for
the performance side of the video with shots that cut in to
‘memory’ like scenes with a couple that were previously together
and happy, yet distance and different circumstances not allowing
them to be together.
Audience
 The primary audience of the music video I will be
creating, using the song lyrics of "Hey There Delilah" by
The Plain White T's is the fans of the band themselves.
This is due to the fans already knowing the song due to
it being placed on their album as well as watching the
video when being released. The audience will be fans of
the genre the band are labelled with being pop punk and
soft rock, and so learning about the band or song
through the genre they like.
 Those that enjoy and frequently listen to the genre of soft rock/pop punk.
The typical audience would be interested in this type of music due to the
artists tending to create their music focused around the lyrics and
meaning of the song in contrast to pop music which is primarily driven by
appearance and fashion of the artist.
 The typical audience would be of any age that enjoyed listening to
acoustic music with meaningful lyrics. The psychographics and
demographics of the viewer would be males (40%) and females (60%)
between the ages of 16 and 25. The fans would be individualists that do
not focus on the bands appearance but the music itself. The Plain White
T's are a band from Illinois, America and so have a large fan base in not
only England but America as well creating a wider market for the music
video i produce.
 The type of fans that enjoy this music would be social and love to know
more about the bands musical career and background rather than gossip.
This means that the fans would typically enjoy following the band on
social media; blogs, facebook, bands website, to be aware of future gigs
and events. This meaning that the platform of social media will be heavily
used within this genre and band's advertising.
 As well as digital media the typical audience would reach and purchase
the music magazines of NME and Kerrang to keep up to date with the
bands latest movements and reviews. This is due to the two magazines
being based around the genre of soft rock/pop punk and following artists
and bands like The Plain White T's.
 The audience would be in the classes of A B C1 as well as being able to
follow the band in magazines paying a monthly fee as well as buying gig
tickets and concert tickets to see the band live due to having the
disposable income they are wanting to spend to see the fan. The fans
would wear clothing from small rock clothes shops as well as rock
sections in main stream stores such as Topshop but would not care for
designer labels, typically wearing dark colours or fan t-shirts for favourite
bands.
Music Video Inspiration
 My main inspiration for my music video is the two music
videos of ‘Hey there Delilah’ by The Plain White T’s
themselves as well as ‘All our stars’ by Ed Sheeran.
 This is due to the words and quotes shown on the background
of a wall with bright colours, being able to relate to many
audiences and situations that relate to the lyrics about
relationships. Also, giving the music video variety instead of
being constant performance and narrative due to the song
being slow, keeping audiences attention.
 I like the idea that the Plain White T’s used during the music
video as they split the scene in three sections; narrative,
performance. This is because the audience is able to see how
the lyrics relate to the narrative and keeps the audience
attentions.
