The document describes the ideal target audience for a music video by an unsigned pop/folk artist. The target audience is male, aged 19-30, who would dress casually in jumpers and woolly hats. They prefer indie artists like Adele, Ellie Goulding, Simon and Garfunkel, and Blondie over mainstream pop stars. They also enjoy art-house films for their narratives, camerawork and complex plots.

2. Gender: Male
Our chosen gender for our ideal target audience is male. This
is because the lead singer/artist we’ve chosen is also male.
Our ideal audience would then be able to socialite with our
artist since they are both of the same gender.
Females would of been an
option also, that’s if our artist
within our music video was
younger, and more well-built
since they might find him
attractive and this would
appeal to them such as
“Justin Bieber” and the group
“One Direction”.
3. Age:
Our ideal target audience within our music
video is between the ages of 19-30. This is
because of the genre of our chosen track –
pop/folk. I carried out some research by doing
a questionnaire on Facebook to audiences
between the ages of 15-20.
I found out that most 16/17 year olds from my
sample would listen to our chosen track. I find
this is important because if they like and enjoy
the track, there is a possibility they will also
watch the music video.
I’ve chosen the ages between 19 - 30 since the
track reminds me very much of music by
“Simon and Garfunkel”. The older audience
may remember hit songs such as “The Sound
of Silence” (1964) and “Mrs. Robinson” (1968).
4. Dress Code:
The dress code of our ideal audience would
reflect the genre of pop/folk. Our audience
would not be wearing black gothic styles or
even Punk “dead threads lace up bondage
pants” since this does not reflect the style of
genre – acoustic guitars and violins.
Our ideal audience would be less expressive,
and wouldn’t care about the latest fashion
craze. However, they’d keep in mind what is
and what isn’t fashionable. A simple jumper
and woolly hat would be suitable for a day out
down to the local park.
5. Favourite Music Genre/Artists/Bands:
Since our track is from an unsigned artist, our audience for the music video would have
similar tastes in the same music genre – they would not listen to most mainstream
artists and bands such as “Rihanna”, “Lady Gaga” or even “Ne-Yo”.
Instead, the mainstream artists they would rather
listen to is “Adele” and “Ellie Goulding” due to their
unique voice and having their own style of music.
Other artists and bands include “Simon and Garfunkel”, “Steve Harley and Cockney
Rebel” and “Blondie”.
6. Film:
Art-house productions such as “Another Earth” (2011), “Submarine” (2010), “Death
of a Superhero” (2011), “Tinker, Tailor, Solider Spy” (2012), “The Eagle” (2011) and
“Cloud Atlas” (US: 2012 UK: 2013) due to their choice of narrative, plot and the use
of camera. (I have included “Cloud Atlas” based on the footage within the trailers).
