Personal Fiscal Responsibility
Research Question: I am researching student fast food workers attending SUNY schools in the North
Country because I want to find out how the financial gains affect their overall personal fiscal
responsibility, in order to understand how students in this industry can put themselves through
schooling.
Object Domain: My object domain would be limited to students attending either SUNY Canton or
SUNY Potsdam that work within the fast food industry to support themselves. I would limit this
further by only selecting candidates with this as their primary source of income, as individuals with
secondary jobs would complicate the data set. I would survey roughly 50 students of unequal portions
between the two schools, or as many are comfortable answering ... Show more content on

Return On Investments ( Roi )
Return on Investments (ROI) is an excellent tool that business professionals use to measure the benefit
an organization receives by administrating the training program. The formula for ROI is the ratio of
the results divided by the training costs. An example of ROI is the dollar value of productivity divided
by training costs. A company benefits from administrating a training program if the ratio of results to
costs is high. There are apparently many formulas out there that organizations are using for ROI, but
the formula recommended to use for training return on investment would be Training ROI = (Total
returns Training cost) / Training cost (Schmidt). Management in many organizations requires proof
that training is financially justified and a good return on investment. If not, then the cost of training
may possibly be reduced. It is all about the money that an organization can or cannot afford to use for
the purpose of training. There are some critics who feel that ROI is not a necessity, whereas there are
some critics who feel that ROI is an important necessity for an organization now more than ever.
The training program is more expensive than its returns to the organization if the ROI ratio is less than
one. Unfortunately, such a training program has to be either changed or cancelled. Therefore, the ROI
ratio has to be more than one in order for the training program to be of some value to the organization.
Training expenditures, training costs, and

The Federal Exchange And The Local Governments s...
The federal exchange and the local governments launched their affordable healthcare system on
October 1, 2013. Their system crashed, timed out and or froze before consumers could were able to
complete their applications. There was one state that outperformed the federal government s exchange.
This state had the only up and running system since the beginning. This was the state of Kentucky.
Kentucky, under the advisement of Sparx, their outside contracted IT experts, used a reusable
framework which gave them a head start to this large statewide project. This project duration was little
over 27 months of constant planning, designing, and development of this state level exchange. Due to
the success of Kentucky s affordable healthcare system, I believe that Kentucky should be the in
charge of the health insurance reform. The federal government should appoint the state of Kentucky to
design a universal system for all of the states. They will to keep up with the high demands as the
population continues to grow. Kentucky will need to increase their application turnover rate and
improve their services and products that are provided to the public. Kentucky should develop a new
level of automated systems that can make the application more efficient when applicants are applying
and renewing their health insurance. It was wise to reuse an old system. Although Kentucky s
healthcare system was successful, how will they continue to protect the

Maternal Bond in Toni Morrison s Beloved Essay
Maternal Bond in Toni Morrison s Beloved
The maternal bond between mother and kin is valued and important in all cultures. Mothers and
children are linked together and joined: physically, by womb and breast; and emotionally, by a sense
of self and possession. Once that bond is established, a mother will do anything for her child. In the
novel Beloved, the author, Toni Morrison, describes a woman, Sethe, who s bond is so strong she goes
to great lengths to keep her children safe and protected from the evil that she knows. She gave them
the gift of life, then, adding to that, the joy of freedom. Determined to shield them from the hell of
slavery, she took drastic measures to keep them from that life. But, in doing so, the ... Show more

Knowing the value of this rarity, Sethe was extremely attached to her children, and refused to lose
them, lest she lose herself. The link between mother and child, then, is an important underlying theme
throughout Beloved, and one with which Sethe became obsessed.
Sethe learned the value of motherhood from an early age. Not wanting the children of the white men
that raped her, Sethe?s mother, Ma?am (as she is called in the book), threw all the unwanted children
away. But, Sethe?s father was a black man whom Ma?am loved, and so she kept Sethe. Recalling the
story, Sethe thinks back on what Nan (the woman who knew Sethe?s mother and raised Sethe, herself)
said, ?She threw them all away but you. The one from the crew she threw away on the island. The
others from more whites she also threw away. Without names, she threw them. You she gave the name
of the black man? (Morrison, 62). Thus having an identity because of her mother, ?Sethe learns Ma?
am?s history and grounds her personality in motherly love? (Kubitcheck 123). Kubitcheck also says, ?
mother love offers the strongest defense against slavery. When Nan tells Sethe that her Ma?am chose
to conceive and bear her, Sethe acquires the base on which to build feelings of self worth? (135). She
could also identify with her mother by the mark branded below Ma?am?s

Education Support For Disabled Students
As a future educator, it is essential to note the critical issue that has been floundering about throughout
the school system, the insufficient educational support for disabled students. This critical issue is not
only present in the United Stated, but it has also moved beyond our boundaries. Whether a school
system simply does not provide the necessary services a student requires, there is a lack of movement
toward a least restrictive environment, or a school simple does not feel the need to implement
necessary changes that would create a more inviting placed for education, the school system (in my
opinion) is providing insufficient educational support for the disabled students. Through the
development of educational improvements such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a teacher of a special education classroom is working with 15 different students who have different
learning styles and needs, that makes the teacher s position very difficult, especially if they did not
receive the needed training in order to do so (Petersen, 2016). It is essential to serve every single one
of our students (whether they have a disability or not), however if a educational system is not properly
training their teachers, who are then not providing the needed adjustments for the lesson, then the
entire school system is providing insufficient educational support for their disabled students, and for
every student for that matter. The fact that insufficient training is occurring is only the surface of the
issue, school system are also lacking in the movement towards a least restrictive environment.
Through the implementation of IDEA, schools need to work with their student in order for them to be
placed in an environment that is best for them as well as close to a general classroom as possible.
Unfortunately, Kurth, Morningstar, and Kozleski (2014) has reveled that school systems are not
tracking data efficiently, to the point that it is making it very difficult to determine exactly where a
student needs to be placed. Additionally, there seems to be a misunderstanding on how exactly schools
need to collect data on their special education students, which then provides the given state incorrect
data to work with in order to make

Currently, the energy industry is controlled and dominated by the consumption of fossil fuels. As
energy companies are constantly burning these fossil fuels, this leaves the public questioning how
much supply we have left after this period of usage. Despite this, the search for alternative energy
sources to lower the cost of living for families around Australia has been going for years, where some
have found what works for them and their price range while others have not.
Australia is ranked 16th in the world for most energy consumed per capita totalling over 5590 kgoe/a

Yes, a community is able to live on renewable energy sources such as wind power and solar power. A
majority of local systems should install power grids purely based upon renewable energy, depending
on the source will depend on the area and the source that can generate the most on demand. For
example, small communities further in land will be able to depend on the use of geothermal energy

renewable/alternative energy sources is if they re able to generate enough energy to cover the entire
country? While the answer is currently unknown, we know variables which in the end can bring us as
a country to the conclusion. In a 2009 report by the Australian Academy of Science, they state that
Today s scientific and political consensus is that the level of global emissions of greenhouse gases

avoid serious, if not catastrophic, effects on life and property. Achieving this goal poses some
formidable challenges . On top of this statement, there are multiple uncertainties such as climate
change, cost, and limitations. Currently, Australians alone produce

Why Do Parents Need To Spank Essay
Most parents have debates in whether to spank or not spank when it comes to their children discipline.
However, the first and the most common response of many parents are to spank, then probable trouble
back in their mind and ask themselves, did my response was okay? Many parents do not even bother
to stop and think through their actions. Commonly corporal punishment comes out of hands; it is not
disciplined anymore it becomes abuse. All parents have their tradition of discipline and probably
believe is the correct one, because they were taught that way, some are okay, but others are NOT
correct. Although some of the parents blame their own child, themselves or whatever is happening

Although some studies show that a parent uses more corporal punishment from the time a child is 1 ½
to 3 years old (Socolar, R. S., Savage, E., Evans, H. 2007, p.476). Most children get spank or punish,
even do they do not know what they do; they are just a child who is trying to experiment with life.
However, parents use corporal punishment in kids who are not capable of understanding jet.
Nevertheless, these children are learning obedience through use of physical force with the intention of
causing a child to experience pain, but no injury, for the purpose of correction or control of a child s
behavior (Fréchette, S., Zoratti, M., Romano, E. 2015, p.135), (Straus and Donnelly 2001, p.4). Even
so, the used of corporal punishment can make a child more aggressive instead of correcting their
behavior, the frequent use of physical punishment the child thinks that is part of life, and that is the
way to show love. Does corporal punishment is the only way that a parent can harm a child? Given a
child whatever they want just because the parent does not want to deal with yelling, crying, or any
action that would interrupt their

Johnny Cash Accomplishments
While looking at the life of the popular musicians, Johnny Cash was considered one of the most
rebellious artists who ever lived. According to Tunnel Hamm, Cash was jailed to his so called attitude
(268). However, his music was termed as the seeds of unorganized political rebellion and the reason
was because of his sharp criticism to political agendas in the United States. Another reason was
because he was an Indian which came out as a threat to Americans who at the time did not overlook
his race in any way (269). Johnny Cash s interference with private and public politics made him
becoming an activist, not just a musician.
Cash developed his own unique artistic ways of expressing himself by engaging his music with
politics. Even though he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, there was this one time when his father took Cash s puppies and put them in a box
together with rocks then later throwing them into the river making Cash watch as they drowned. Cash
further stated that his father also shot the dog that had given birth to the puppies, (Tunnel Hamm,
2009. Pp. 272). This implies and shows how Johnny Cash used his life experience to create a
productive and meaningful life to himself and others who felt an impact through his music. Therefore,
in general country music has motivated artists such as Johnny Cash into engaging both in music and
politics at the same time and having an influence on other people s lives and change them for the
better. The evidence is how even Johnny Cash was jailed to his political engagement but never quit
since he went on to fight for social justice even after he was released from jail, (Tunnel Hamm, 2009.
Pp. 270). This shows that in the music industry and his own personal life, there were cultural biases
that affected musicians in some negative manner. Another example is Johnny Cash was jailed due to
his expression of politics through country music. They were not allowed to stand against what they did
not believe in and express it through

has became popular among students of all ages. Universities have increased their enrollment numbers
by creating distance learning programs. Online University programs are a convenient way for students
to further their education and has the benefit of not having to go to a geographical location. Students
can access the courses without losing any quality of education that is being taught in on site degree
programs. Many Univiersities now offer online degree programs as gives the opportunity to students
who cannot for some reason attend regular hours further their education.

Philosophers of the Enlightenment played a crucial role in how the governments and people of Europe

were quite important to this movement. John Locke is credited as the principal forerunner of the

Functionalism And Its Impact On Physical Body Essay
In the philosophy of mind, there are many theories that try to resolve the mind body problem. That is,
how does the mental or consciousness interact with our physical body? Do they interact at all? Are
they two separate entities or one in the same? Many theories try to answer these types of questions,
but the one I will be focusing on is role functionalism. When mentioning functionalism throughout, I
will be referring to role functionalism. Functionalism is a theory that says mental states can be defined
by their function. So, we can identify mental states with their functional states. We can come to know
the function of a mental state through examining its inputs, outputs, and relation to other mental states.
I will show how this theory is correct by comparing it to the identity theory. I will begin by clarifying
a few important terms in relation to functionalism, lay out the theory, and then present an objection.
Lastly, I will present a possible functionalist reply to the objection and conclude. To begin,
functionalism is a theory in the philosophy of mind that defines mental states through its inputs,
outputs, and causal relation to other mental states, or its function (Jackson,4). The inputs are things
you perceive in the world and the output is how you react or your behavior. A behaviorist is only
concerned with inputs and outputs when defining mental states, whereas a functionalist takes it a step
further. They also examine the casual relationship to other mental

The Transportation And Grocery Gaps Of San Diego
Listening to Sierra s answer, this customer s plight embodies the interconnectivity of the
transportation and grocery gaps that San Diego suffers from within areas in need. Though luckier than
most to have his own means of private transportation, this one particular customer was compelled to
drive a great distance to provide healthy juice for himself, a product that he would otherwise be
unexposed to without his car. As Gottlieb and Joshi highlight in their book Food Justice, the link
between the two aforementioned gaps grow wider and wider, feeding off each other and intensifying
the imbalances already existing (48). Therefore, an overabundance of fast food filled the gaps between
the market and the domestic areas, looking to attract high volume of in transit customers on busy
roadways, pushing nutrient food options further and further from dense urban population. As a result,
fast foods are purchased to conserve time, gas, and other expenses encountered to simply achieve a
journey to the grocery store. Even those stores that are nearby lack truly nutritious options, and
heavily advocate for non healthy diets to become daily habits over the wholesome alternative. Under
those circumstances, local markets like Stehly Farms are far from accessible to a great deal of the San
Diegan population. In reality, this customer possesses fortunate fundamentals such as knowledge,
transportation, and free time to frequent such a wonderful market and choose a healthier diet in short,

Junk Food Should Be Banned In Schools
Long live junk food, a child s best friend who has stuck with them throughout all these years. Schools
are considering to erase these long term companions from a student s educational lives once and for
all. The question we are asking here is whether or not this is going to be a choice that is worth it. Junk
food should not be banned in schools because banning junk food in school cannot guarantee
restrictions on junk food outside of school, cutting out junk food greatly decreases school revenue, and
the availability of healthier foods does not ensure proper intake of calories.
When junk food is banned in school, it does not guarantee a ban everywhere else outside of school. As
Radford states, Whether or not junk food is available to them at school may not have much bearing on
how much junk food they eat (7). This could be due to multiple reasons. Outside of school, junk food
is an inexpensive source that is widely available and any student would have access to them because
of how conveniently located they are. Not only are they conveniently placed, they are also served in
large portions (Reyman 1). If junk food was banned, these outside locations could then serve as
escapes for students from the policies that have been placed. There will also be students who would be
exempt from the policies once they are set in stone students who like to pack their own lunch (Jaonick
and Cass 17). These students still have the chance to pack the unhealthiest foods from home, giving

Characteristics of My Virtual Child, Gavin
Introduction to Gavin My virtual child is a male, named Gavin (Manis, 2008). The name Gavin was

name, Gavaghan. Gavin has one virtual sibling, a younger sister named Chloe. There is a three year
age difference between the two siblings. According to the program I had a partner and we were
married. Unfortunately, when Gavin was four years old we continued to argue and decided to separate.
Two years later, we finally decided that the relationship was over and to get a divorce. Gavin s
personality is very closely related to the overcontrolled personality type (Manis, 2008). The
overcontrolled category states that the child is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gavin is also very sensitive with his surroundings, and lets his surroundings affect him greatly. This is
a weakness and is shown through different situations on his report cards and through observation.
When Gavin s younger sister was born he became very jealous and started to throw temper tantrums
and show regressive behavior (Manis, 2008). When my partner and I separated and eventually
divorced when Gavin was young he again started throwing temper tantrums and showed regressive
behavior. Also to support this on his first grade report card his teacher wrote Sometimes Gavin over
reacts to stressful situations and can become quite upset with himself or others and needs help calming
down (Manis, 2008). These are the main situations that led me to believe that he is a sensitive person,
which can also be seen as a weakness. Influences on Development Factors play a big role in everyone
s development; in Gavin s development the two biggest factors were genes and the divorce. Gavin s
genes could have influenced his shy behavior. Being shy could have kept him from experiencing
things that could have changed him in many ways. If Gavin had not been so shy then maybe his
language comprehension would not have been continuously below average because he would have
had more practice with the people around him other then his parents. The divorce may have also

The Temperature of Poetry
The Temperature of Poetry
Poetry is one of the stranger parts of the literary world. A poem can be anything, from a three lined
poem known as a haiku to a giant epic poem like the The Odyssey. They can be rhyming or non
rhyming, long or short, sensible or nonsensical. Even lyrics in songs can be considered poetry, seeing
as how they are rhyming and flow so well. The parameters for a poem are wide, the requirements few;
but no matter what kind of poem you read, from Homer to Doctor Seuss to John Mayer, symbolism is
the driving force behind it all. Symbolism is the basis for almost every piece of poetry written so far,
barring some of the works of Doctor Seuss. One recurring piece of symbolism found throughout the
literary world is the use of temperature. The warmth of the sun or a comforting smile, the cold of night
or a dark hospital room, temperature plays a part in many poems and plays its part well. But the part it
plays can vary from writer to writer, poem to poem. The three major uses of temperatures though are
to show the warmth of memory versus the harsh cold of reality, the warmth of comfort, and how
warmth is used to show life and vitality while cold is used to signify harshness and cruelty.
The first two poems to discuss are I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by William Wordsworth and
Disabled by Wilfred Owen. These two poems are very different in their subject, but their usage of
temperature in the form of memory gives them a common denominator. Both speak of

Essay about Joseph Conrad s The Women of Heart of Darkness
Joseph Conrad s The Women of Heart of Darkness
The novella Heart of Darkness illustrates readers with three different types of depictions that men had
of women during the late 1800 s; also known as the imperialistic era. These depictions were as
follows; the naive woman, the mistress, and the wealthy widow. The naïve woman was personified by
Kurtz intended. The mistress was personified by the native African woman. The wealthy widow is
personified by Marlow s aunt. This assumption can be made on various levels. The most obvious level
is how Joseph Conrad never gave these characters names. Also when they are mentioned it is very
brief.
Kurtz s intended is the naïve character. She is alone and waiting for Kurtz for as long ... Show more

The small part that she has in this novella she manages to sound like a naïve woman.
The second character that we are introduced to is Kurtz s African mistress. The mistress is a beautiful
woman who seems to evoke some sort of control over the men. Whenever she is mentioned the men
just stand there as if in awe. She never speaks in the novella. During the late 1800 s it was acceptable
for men to have mistress , I believe that is what Conrad tried to show. That s why Kurtz s intended
never questioned why he was taking so long. She probably knew he had a mistress and couldn t really
say anything against it. The mistress managed to gain some type of control over Kurtz, and that is why
he hadn t left yet. Even Marlow was in awe when he saw the beautiful native woman with jewelry on.
Perhaps she was a wealthy woman, and that s why the people respected her.
The last female character that I will examine is Marlow s aunt. She is perhaps a wealthy widow, who
also has nothing better to do with her money. She believes strongly on the topic of imperialism. She
thinks that it helps people progress. She was the one who got Marlow this opportunity. Marlow s aunt
is the combination of both characters. She was naïve and controlling at the same time. Conrad
probably used this character to show readers how older women were in the past.
Its amazing to see how men stereotyped women in the past it hasn t

The American Dream, And All Its Splendor (Great Gatsby)...
The 1920s were a decade of rebirth characterised by the founding of the quot;American
Dream quot; the belief that anyone can, and should, achieve material success. The defining writer of
the 1920s was F. Scott Fitzgerald whose most famous novel, The Great Gatsby, has become required
reading for present day high school students. We study Fitzgerald s novel for the same reason we
study Shakespeare. The literature composed by both authors contains themes and morals that continue
to be relevant to modern society. As a result, this novel could have easily been written in modern
times. In his novel, Fitzgerald criticises the American Dream by describing its negative characteristics:

I thought he knew something about breeding but he wasn t fit to lick my shoe (Fitzgerald 39). The
adulterous behaviour of Myrtle and Tom, as well as the carelessness of Daisy and Jordan, illustrates
the corruptibility of the rich.
Both Tom and Daisy are morally corrupt, having little concern for how they treat the people around
them. Daisy and her husband display their indifference to human values in episodes involving sexual
exploitation and careless violence (Fahey 72). The Buchanans are not the only shallow ones, Jordan is
incurably dishonest and her opinion that It takes two to make an accident, (Fitzgerald 63) is an attempt
to justify of her thoughtlessness. They were careless people, Tom and Daisy they smashed up things
and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was
that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made, (Fitzgerald 187) says
Nick. Since the wealthy social class which they belong to is immoral, they can get away with being
corrupt; a corruption that comes from a false sense of security in their money, and the belief they have
achived the american dream.
One of the faults in the American dream is that it equates material wealth and possessions with
happiness. However, not everything, nor everyone, can be bought. Nick,

Teaching New Meanings For The Sorority Environment
You quickly become what you surround yourself with. This concept was a constant reminder my
mother gave me when I moved off to college. As a senior, I find this advice to hold very true when I
reflect on the organizations that I have been a part of. My sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, has had the biggest
influence on not only my character, but my language as well. What first seemed like jargon has now
become primary language. From learning new meanings for everyday vocabulary to different
intonational patterns, my language has adapted to the environment that I have surrounded myself with
for the past three years. Within a sorority, there are various terms that are held secret due to our ritual
ceremonies; however, there are also numerous terms that we will use in everyday language. These
terms are average words that are used throughout the day by a vast majority of the world population.
However, when the words are used in the sorority environment, they take on a completely new
meaning. In other words, they are semantically altered. A primary example is the transition of the
words big and little from adjectives to proper nouns. Instead of defining an object s size, these terms
are now used to name your big and little sister in the sorority. I remember getting asked my freshman
year, Are you going to rush? I immediately thought, Rush where? As I transitioned into the Greek
community, I quickly realized that the term rush changes meaning and now means going through

How To Write A Term Paper On Avatar
Avatar
Avatar is a movie directed by James Cameron, released in December 18th 2009. The movie begins
with the introduction of ex marine officer Jake Sully who is confined to a wheel chair and is recruited
to join an expedition to Pandora where there is a large deposit of unobtanium, a mineral that is sold at
$20 billion a kilogram. The natives of Pandora are called the Na vi, who resides in the Hometree on
Pandora. The Hometree is the Na vi s spiritual and physical resting ground. It is also the source that is
connected to their biological neural network which they need to survive. The ground below the
Hometree holds the largest deposit of unobtanium. To facilitate their work, the humans created avatars
which are artificial bodies that resemble the Na vi and transfer their consciousness into those bodies to
interact and infiltrate the Hometree. Jake in his avatar form meets Neytiri, who introduces him to the
other natives. Jake discovers that the Na vi are connected with the Hometree and the destruction of the
tree will endanger them. Jake is put to the task of stopping the humans from destroying the tree and
helps the Na vi defend the tree. After a big battle for justice for the Na vi, the movie ends with the
humans returning back to earth with the exception of Jake and a few other humans. Jake s conscious is

Spin In Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried
... But the thing about remembering is that you don t forget... (O Brien, 33). This quote from the
chapter Spin in the book The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien, brings together what this platoon,
Alpha Company, of young adults would never forget about what they will go through in the Vietnam
War. War comes death, sacrifice, and broken minds at the end.
The death of Ted Lavender was a shifting point for the the platoon and its Lieutenant Jimmy

Ted Lavender was a scared young adult who was the first one from the platoon to meet death. Before
he had passed away in order to calm his nerves ...Ted Lavender carried 6 or 7 ounces of premium

Jimmy rubbed his eyes and said he d never forgiven himself for Lavender s death. It was something
that would never go away... (O Brien, 26) Out of hundreds of photos they both focused on Ted
Lavender and hit a soft spot for both of them. They related and were able to get in touch with those
emotions even after many years passing.
Although after Ted Lavender, there were many more soldiers the platoon had seen pass away. But
even after all that time Ted Lavender is still relevant throughout the book. He had made an impact
considering that his only role in the platoons life was that he was the first death they had seen that was
one of them. Tim O Brien tells the story all over again as he did in the beginning of the book. Which
should make the audience realize that although we did not know much about Ted Lavender he was a

The Effects Of Child Maltreatment On Children
In my research paper, I am going to discuss the negative effects that child maltreatment has on a child
throughout their childhood and their life. Child maltreatment is defined as any act or series of acts of
commission or omission by a parent or other caregiver that results in harm, potential for harm, or
threat of harm to a child (US Department of Health and Human Services, 2007). Child maltreatment
includes physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, as well as neglect and failure to supervise (Franks,
Miller, Schelble, 2010).
Children who are abused tend to have a lot of emotional and psychological problems. Some of these
problems can be treated if taken care of immediately, but unfortunately for some children these issues

They begin thinking that it is their fault that these things are happening to them. Some of the children
my mother had witnessed and encountered many negative things; which left a damaging effect on
them. They would have nightmares, act out in school and wet the bed. Further on in my paper, I am
going to discuss child maltreatment and the effects it has on children. I am also going to discuss the
interventions used to reduce the effects.
Child Maltreatment: Negative Effects
Child maltreatment represents one of the most heinous examples of the failure of the caregiving
environment to promote positive social and emotional development (Cicchetti Toth, 2005). Research
has demonstrated that child abuse and neglect are associated with a variety of negative and enduring
psychological, behavioral, and social outcomes (Cicchetti Valentino, 2006; Widom, 2000). In addition,
maltreatment appears to be one common thread that links systems involved youth (Stone Zibulsky
(2015).
From my personal experience, I have seen the negative outcomes that child maltreatment has on
children. As of now my mom has two foster children, both brother and sister they have been with us
for nine months. When they originally came to us their older sister was with them, but now her father
has custody of her. The brother was severely abused by his father and his mother allowed it to go on.

The Characters Of Talents In The Chosen By Chaim Potok
American singer and actress Ethel Waters once said, We are all gifted. That is our inheritance.
Whenever people think of someone as gifted they tend to think of superpower type qualities. During
the book The Chosen, written by Chaim Potok, it depicts several different characters pertaining
different talents. Characters such as Reuven, Danny, or even Mr. Malter all possess abilities that help
them in life. The types of gifts displayed in the book are not what people usually think of as special
gifts, but a special talent can seem as little as forgiving easily and genuinely care for others well being
or as big as recalling information at a moments notice. In The Chosen, characters such as Reuven,
Danny, and Mr. Malter all demonstrate certain gifts that they maintain. To begin with, Reuven Malter
demonstrates many of his different types of gifts throughout the story. Two of the key traits Reuven
reveals are the gifts of compassion and the mind for logic. In the beginning of the book Danny tries to
kill Reuven by hitting him with a baseball, however he later comes and apologizes to him and Reuven
forgives him (Potok, 70). Not everyone, when provided with a chance, will forgive someone who
wronged them. Instead of harboring onto his frustrations Reuven graciously forgives Danny, an act
that takes great compassion to fulfill. Another example of Reuven s gifts in the book is his ability to
solve logic problems, Well, they try to deduce all of mathematics from

Observation Of A Piglet
On September 10th 2017 Mr. Striker placed out 10 dead baby piglets in the body farm at Wabash
Heartland Career Center. The piglets all had different factors and the piglets where all still born.
Before the body farm even started we wrote theories on questions that we were given and what we
would think would happen to each piglet in different factors. We started observing these piglets on
September 11th 2017. We observed these piglets for three weeks until mostly all of the piglets where
decomposed all the way to bones. The piglet that was burned (piglet 2) was the one to decompose the
fastest out of the natural state piglet in the grass (piglet 1) and a buried piglet (piglet 10). My initial
thought was correct that piglet 2 would decompose fastest due to less skin for the bugs to get through
the skin and get inside of the piglet. Piglet 2 decomposed on day 9 it was completely bones with no
skin or flesh left on the bones due to maggots and other insects. Piglet 1 still had maggots on its legs
on day 9 and was decomposed on day 11 with only bones left. The piglet 10 still has not been
completely decomposed on day 15. The speed of decomposition is different when the piglet is naked
on the black top (piglet6) or a clothed piglet on black top (piglet 7). My initial thought was that piglet
6 would decompose faster because there would be one less layer to get through than on piglet 7. I was
correct that the piglet 6 did decompose faster than piglet 7. However the clothes

A Speech On A Quiet Summer Night Essay
Introduction
On a quiet summer night on June 17, 2015 a 19 year old young man, wearing a gray sweatshirt, dark
jeans and Timberlands, walked into a historic, pre civil war era church. There was no lock preventing
his entry. There was no security guard he had to walk by. There was only a security camera that would
catch his unassuming entrance. Once inside he sat quietly as the regular attendees held a small prayer
service. He was welcomed and sat with the small group as they read the word of God. No one could
tell from his demeanor or his appearance he was there to do unthinkable harm to those inside. And
without provocation or warning he began to shoot one unarmed person after another, after another. He
took the necessary time needed to ensure each shot was a lethal shot as most of the parishners were
dead before emergency medical attention would arrive. The armed gunman was not concerned he
would be stopped by any of those inside Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal (AME)
Church. He was not concerned any of his victims would have a firearm that could be used against him.
Why? Maybe it s because people of worship feel safe enough inside their house of worship. Therefore,
a firearm is unnecessary. Maybe it s because even legal Concealed Weapons Permit (CWP) holders
cannot freely carry a firearm inside a church. No matter the reason, no one inside the church felt
compelled to carry a concealed weapon that fateful night in Charleston, South Carolina.

Plato s Allegory of the Cave in Pleasantville Essay
Writer and director Gary Ross captured the essence of Plato s philosophical views in his movie,
Pleasantville. The movie is about two siblings, David and Jennifer, who live in completely different
high school social scenes. Jennifer is the wild, extroverted teen who is obsessed with partying and boy
drama. David, on the other hand, is a social outcast and spends most of his time watching TV,
specifically, his favorite show, Pleasantville. David idolizes the show because of the perfect town in
which everyone is accepted and there is never anything that goes wrong. When the siblings mother
goes away, the two are left arguing over what TV channel to watch. As their fighting develops, they
eventually break the remote, which leads to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because the people of Pleasantville and David and Jen learn new things about themselves, they all
escaped the cave and gathered knowledge. The road to enlightenment was not an easy road, however.
David and Jennifer had a difficult time maturing and leaving behind their old masks; the town of
Pleasantville had a very difficult time gaining a new perspective the town leaders tried everything they
could to forbid people from leaving their perfect little world. This parallel of the cave explains Plato s
first conclusion of how education can often be difficult because it means turning your back on
everything familiar. The movie also very clearly identifies with Plato s second conclusion that
explains why philosophers are often ridiculed. When Jennifer and David were transported to
Pleasantville, they were immediately hated for disrupting the order in the town. They had to learn how
to cope with a completely different world, while also instilling in others their new perspective and
experience. While Pleasantville is black and white, the town represents the ignorance that people in
the cave feel. However, when the town begins to turn to color, the people are finally seeing the light
and escaping from the cave. This I somewhat ironic because, for both the people of Pleasantville and
David and Jen, they all begin their journey in black and white. This is interesting because, from Jen
and David s

Analysis Of Marion Dadds And Susan Hart
This paper from Doing Practicioner Research Differently, by Marion Dadds and Susan Hart, explores
the way in which a researcher (Joseph Geraci) has entered into the world of several individuals living
with autism, and has spent time observing and working with them in order to gain a better
understanding of what it is like to live with autism, and the reasons behind why autistic individuals
behave in some of the ways that they do.
The underpinning philosophical basis for the methodological approaches the research adopts.
By definition, an underpinning philosophy means the foundation beliefs/the system on which the
research is based around. In the case of Joe Geraci s research, his main methods of data collection
were those of observation and conversation. In research, observations can either be overt or disclosed
(that is, the participants know they are being studied) or covert/undisclosed (where the true identity of
the researcher is kept secret from the group, a deception)
In general, observations are in fact a relatively cheap method of data collection to carry out, and the
researcher needs few resources. However, what they are is very time consuming for the researcher.
In 1995, Bassey said that the main purpose of research is to create new knowledge and understanding
for us, to help us know something we did not previously know (Bassey, M 1995), which is what
Geraci as a researcher is hoping to achieve here by experiencing his subjects behavior first hand in

The Neurological and Behavioral Changes Associated with Learning Music as a Child
Some would argue that humans are intrinsically wired to produce music. As an infant, the sounds
children make while learning language mimic the tonal shape of language. Parents also tend to use
exaggerated highs and lows in their voices much like a simple melody to prepare and help develop the
infant s capacity to learn language. It has also been found that the neural networks used in language
acquisition are very similar to those used in music acquisition (Mithen 2006). Language acquisition
and development is imperative for an individual to survive, and if training the brain with music can
strengthen those networks, this is a subject of great importance. Since the 1940s doctors have
recognized the impacts of music on the behavior of patients with mental disabilities, and from this
discovery, the effects of music on a regular developing brain became a subject of great interest.
Researchers recognized that there was potentially an opportunity to increase brain development in
children resulting in discernable enhancements of skills into adulthood (Reschke Hernandez, 2011). It
is now known that childhood music education improves skills required for playing music, namely
motor functioning, auditory discrimination, and long and short term recall. These skills, learned
through music instruction, transfer to non musical skills such as verbal

being of Vietnamese men and women who entered early adulthood during the Vietnam War and who
are now entering late adulthood. The goal of the study was to determine the health of the Vietnamese
civilians during the war. It is assumed that the soldiers who actually perform these terrible acts are the
only people will have any type of trauma. They claim, Rather, it was those who experienced
particularly intense and severe trauma exposures during wartime, namely, killing and being exposed to

Collins Class Conflict Model
Lastly, Collins (1990) criticizes the class conflict model for its neglect of Black women s unpaid
domestic labor. This labor is domestically located within Black women s extended families. It
involves their contributions to Black family well being, such as keeping families together and teaching
children survival skills (Collins 1990: p. 44). From slavery to modern times, Black women have been
disproportionately engaged in the home. During slavery, Black women found solace in the private,
domestic sphere with their families, thereby resisting the exploitation that existed in the public sphere.
After emancipation, Black women hoping to solely focus on their domestic duties in the home, were

This paper presents an assessment of informal borrowing and lending in rural finance with a focus on
its advantages and disadvantages. It examines a number of issues related to the functioning of rural
credit markets, determinants of rural interest rates, why the government intervenes in rural credit
markets and how.
BACKGROUND Commercial banks and other formal institutions fail to take care of the credit needs

He also mentions the less traditional and informal forms of collateral acceptable in rural markets and
the convenience it gives poor peasants. Many of these rural dwellers live in subsistence and can only
use farm produce, livestock, labour etc as collateral in exchange for loans. He further states that with
informal borrowing, the circumstances surrounding the applicant are considered when the financial
assistance is being offered. This offers the advantage of having special considerations even when the
criteria for lending are not met. In short, the informal market does not have set standards to measure
up to when financial services are needed, and therefore they are able to offer flexible services
according to individual needs.
Motamen Samadian (2012) accedes to these claims in her presentation, identifying intimate
knowledge of requirement and abilities between lenders and borrowers, better rates of loan recovery
as far as the lenders are concerned, repayment flexibilities and minimum protocol as the advantages of
informal credit. There are, however, many limitations and disadvantages of informal credit. In 1981,
Stiglitz and Weiss in their work established a link between information asymmetry, adverse selection
and moral hazard. In their analysis, interest rates charged by a lender is seen as having a dual role of
sorting potential borrowers, leading to adverse selection and affecting the

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Hillary Rodham Clinton s Speech
On September 5, 1995, First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke in front of delegates from 180
countries at the United Nations Fourth World Conference of Women. There, she was to deliver one of
her greatest speeches on a topic that affects all of us; human rights, more notably, the rights of women
and children. In her speech, Clinton persuaded those in attendance, utilizing ethos, pathos and logos,
to understand the importance of women s rights and to demand that they take steps to ensure that
women receive the same liberties as men.
Aristotle, Greek philosopher and scientist, argued that there were three ingredients needed to

It is a violation of human rights when women and girls are sold into the slavery of prostitution for
human greed and the kinds of reasons that are used to justify this practice should no longer be

Humans have rights. Women are humans. Women should have human rights. Hillary utilized this
argument to persuade her audience with logos appeal as it is only logical that women s rights should
be equal to all human s rights, because after all, women are humans.
We need to understand there is no one formula for how women should lead our lives. That is why we
must respect the choices that each woman makes for herself and her family. Every woman deserves

seeds in setting up the cameras, and where is his reaping? It is free on the Internet, no strings attached.
While David did make some money off of his pictures, he no longer receives profit from them due to
the piratical acts of a company. It is too bad that David Slater could not have taken the pictures
himself,
but ces t la vie, oui? . Wikimedia did wrong because the pictures taken were the efforts

Another flaw is found in the copyright law stating that only a human can own a copyright, and since
the monkey took the picture, David could not own the copyright.
David worked to have what was rightfully his. His efforts were put forth to create the picture, like a
director of a movie. They get to own their copyrights, but they are indirectly involved in the
production of the movie. This is unfair seeing as how a man indirectly involved in the creation of
photos cannot own the rights to his own

The Short Story Everyday Uses By Alice Walker
In the short story, Everyday Uses by Alice Walker, is about two daughters, one spoiled and one
thankful. The eldest daughter changes herself from her family, and thinks possessions matter most.
She s very outgoing and doesn t care about anyone but herself, and shows in the story how this new
man changed her. The younger and other sister, Maggie is more caring, as she is willing to give up
something just because her sister wanted it. She doesn t change and doesn t let people change her like
her older sister. I think this story shows how people are affected by their surroundings. Some people
want things but don t appreciate it until someone else does. This story may help people realize how
people take things for granted, or just want

Four Degrees
4 Degrees That Can Help Shape the U.S. for the Better There has never been better time to contribute
to American politics. The economic downturn, diversity difficulties and international unrest will never
go away. Therefore, the following four degree will help the student help shape the U.S. for the better.
Bachelors of Science in Political Science Political scientists work in a variety of organizations, such as
private think tanks, lobby groups and non profit organizations. Approximately half are employed by
the federal government. They do everything from research relations to collect data to develop and test

From a business perspective, an MPA is similar to an MBA. However, unlike the MBA, the MPA
offers a wide range of program specialization in public sector fields. For example, this includes
transportation, health care, criminal justice and urban planning and management. Master of Arts in
Public Policy A Master of Arts in Public Policy (MPP) is one of the best degrees to help students
understand public policies and the American political system. An MPP will help the student gain in
depth insight into both the State and Federal systems of government. Part of this involves learning
how the U.S. political process and framework has developed and changed over the years. More
importantly, students will learn about current events and hot topics that they will deal with in their
future career. An MPP curriculum will also cover ethics, economics, leadership, policy analysis and

A Comparison of Blue Remembered Hills by Denis Potter and...
A Comparison of Blue Remembered Hills by Denis Potter and Hope and Glory produced by John
Boorman There are many significant similarities and differences between the two extracts I have
studied. A common similarity being the era they are set in; during the Second World War. Although the
two pieces of drama are set in the same time period, they offer a great contrast in terms of their setting.
Blue Remember Hills, set in 1943, is a naturalistic play situated in the countryside. Whereas Hope and
Glory very much displays the effects of war in towns and cities, particularly the suburbs of London. In
addition Blue Remember Hills follows the life of a gang of children who are played by adult actors ...

In my research I incorporate the evacuation of children during the Second World War. During the
Second World War many children were evacuated from the major towns and cities Main targets for
bombing) into the countryside which was considered to be a safer place. At first many evacuees felt
homesick and uncomfortable with their new surrounding but adapted quickly to the open fields and
freedom of the countryside. Many received good homes where they were well cared for and provided
with hearty meals. However this was not the case for all evacuees. A minority of the evacuees were
taken advantage of and used for domestic help around the house and some were even abused. This
applies to Donald Duck in Blue Remember Hills. However it is clearly evident in characters such as
easy going Willie, that the countryside takes away the restrictions in the cities and provides an safe,
open environment for a child imagination to wonder, provides a good contrast to this as the film shows
the dangers that the children face in their everyday lives, even the games they play on things they
collect refer to war. Various themes are used through out the pieces, some of which include bullying,
war, death, childhood innocence gangs, bullying and the classification of gender. However Hope and
Glory has the additional themes

SOLDIERS AND PEASANTS! PEACE! BREAD! LAND! . He writes that later that evening,
government buildings and several institutions were under the Bolsheviks authority and the next day
Lenin officially announced the downfall of the Provisional Government along with the arrestment of
the leading actors the Petrograd Soviet celebrated the victory. The absence of their political opponents
press weakened the opposition s presence in the public and facilitated the victory in other parts of
Russia. According to Reed, the Bolsheviks were able to take control of Moscow within three weeks
and expended it soon after to Kiev. Strategically keeping the rivalry out of political activities
continued throughout the history of the Soviet regime and was an essential part of other communist
movements. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first place, they had to handle their main opposition which initially was against the putsch.
Historically, both parties represented similar interests which were based on the doctrines of Karl Marx
acting as one piece in the 1905 revolution. But in 1917 after the Tsar putsch, the Mensheviks have
taken the side of Kerensky Provisional Government because they were against a progressive
revolution and thought that the transformation must take a natural evolution toward socialism. Reed

  • 3. Return On Investments ( Roi ) Return on Investments (ROI) is an excellent tool that business professionals use to measure the benefit an organization receives by administrating the training program. The formula for ROI is the ratio of the results divided by the training costs. An example of ROI is the dollar value of productivity divided by training costs. A company benefits from administrating a training program if the ratio of results to costs is high. There are apparently many formulas out there that organizations are using for ROI, but the formula recommended to use for training return on investment would be Training ROI = (Total returns Training cost) / Training cost (Schmidt). Management in many organizations requires proof that training is financially justified and a good return on investment. If not, then the cost of training may possibly be reduced. It is all about the money that an organization can or cannot afford to use for the purpose of training. There are some critics who feel that ROI is not a necessity, whereas there are some critics who feel that ROI is an important necessity for an organization now more than ever. The training program is more expensive than its returns to the organization if the ROI ratio is less than one. Unfortunately, such a training program has to be either changed or cancelled. Therefore, the ROI ratio has to be more than one in order for the training program to be of some value to the organization. Training expenditures, training costs, and ... Their system crashed, timed out and or froze before consumers could were able to complete their applications. There was one state that outperformed the federal government s exchange. This state had the only up and running system since the beginning. This was the state of Kentucky. Kentucky, under the advisement of Sparx, their outside contracted IT experts, used a reusable framework which gave them a head start to this large statewide project. This project duration was little over 27 months of constant planning, designing, and development of this state level exchange. Due to the success of Kentucky s affordable healthcare system, I believe that Kentucky should be the in charge of the health insurance reform. The federal government should appoint the state of Kentucky to design a universal system for all of the states. They will to keep up with the high demands as the population continues to grow. Kentucky will need to increase their application turnover rate and improve their services and products that are provided to the public. Kentucky should develop a new level of automated systems that can make the application more efficient when applicants are applying and renewing their health insurance. It was wise to reuse an old system. Although Kentucky s healthcare system was successful, how will they continue to protect the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Maternal Bond in Toni Morrison s Beloved Essay Maternal Bond in Toni Morrison s Beloved The maternal bond between mother and kin is valued and important in all cultures. Mothers and children are linked together and joined: physically, by womb and breast; and emotionally, by a sense of self and possession. Once that bond is established, a mother will do anything for her child. In the novel Beloved, the author, Toni Morrison, describes a woman, Sethe, who s bond is so strong she goes to great lengths to keep her children safe and protected from the evil that she knows. She gave them the gift of life, then, adding to that, the joy of freedom. Determined to shield them from the hell of slavery, she took drastic measures to keep them from that life. The link between mother and child, then, is an important underlying theme throughout Beloved, and one with which Sethe became obsessed. Sethe learned the value of motherhood from an early age. Not wanting the children of the white men that raped her, Sethe?s mother, Ma?am (as she is called in the book), threw all the unwanted children away. But, Sethe?s father was a black man whom Ma?am loved, and so she kept Sethe. Recalling the story, Sethe thinks back on what Nan (the woman who knew Sethe?s mother and raised Sethe, herself) said, ?She threw them all away but you. The one from the crew she threw away on the island. The others from more whites she also threw away. Without names, she threw them. You she gave the name of the black man? (Morrison, 62). Thus having an identity because of her mother, ?Sethe learns Ma? am?s history and grounds her personality in motherly love? (Kubitcheck 123). Kubitcheck also says, ? mother love offers the strongest defense against slavery. If a teacher of a special education classroom is working with 15 different students who have different learning styles and needs, that makes the teacher s position very difficult, especially if they did not receive the needed training in order to do so (Petersen, 2016). It is essential to serve every single one of our students (whether they have a disability or not), however if a educational system is not properly training their teachers, who are then not providing the needed adjustments for the lesson, then the entire school system is providing insufficient educational support for their disabled students, and for every student for that matter. Another reason was because he was an Indian which came out as a threat to Americans who at the time did not overlook his race in any way (269). Therefore, in general country music has motivated artists such as Johnny Cash into engaging both in music and politics at the same time and having an influence on other people s lives and change them for the better. The evidence is how even Johnny Cash was jailed to his political engagement but never quit since he went on to fight for social justice even after he was released from jail, (Tunnel Hamm, 2009. • 13. Functionalism And Its Impact On Physical Body Essay In the philosophy of mind, there are many theories that try to resolve the mind body problem. That is, how does the mental or consciousness interact with our physical body? Do they interact at all? Are they two separate entities or one in the same? Many theories try to answer these types of questions, but the one I will be focusing on is role functionalism. When mentioning functionalism throughout, I will be referring to role functionalism. Functionalism is a theory that says mental states can be defined by their function. So, we can identify mental states with their functional states. We can come to know the function of a mental state through examining its inputs, outputs, and relation to other mental states. I will show how this theory is correct by comparing it to the identity theory. I will begin by clarifying a few important terms in relation to functionalism, lay out the theory, and then present an objection. Lastly, I will present a possible functionalist reply to the objection and conclude. To begin, functionalism is a theory in the philosophy of mind that defines mental states through its inputs, outputs, and causal relation to other mental states, or its function (Jackson,4). The inputs are things you perceive in the world and the output is how you react or your behavior. Schools are considering to erase these long term companions from a student s educational lives once and for all. The question we are asking here is whether or not this is going to be a choice that is worth it. Junk food should not be banned in schools because banning junk food in school cannot guarantee restrictions on junk food outside of school, cutting out junk food greatly decreases school revenue, and the availability of healthier foods does not ensure proper intake of calories. When junk food is banned in school, it does not guarantee a ban everywhere else outside of school. As Radford states, Whether or not junk food is available to them at school may not have much bearing on how much junk food they eat (7). This could be due to multiple reasons. Outside of school, junk food is an inexpensive source that is widely available and any student would have access to them because of how conveniently located they are. Not only are they conveniently placed, they are also served in large portions (Reyman 1). If junk food was banned, these outside locations could then serve as escapes for students from the policies that have been placed. A poem can be anything, from a three lined poem known as a haiku to a giant epic poem like the The Odyssey. They can be rhyming or non rhyming, long or short, sensible or nonsensical. Even lyrics in songs can be considered poetry, seeing as how they are rhyming and flow so well. The parameters for a poem are wide, the requirements few; but no matter what kind of poem you read, from Homer to Doctor Seuss to John Mayer, symbolism is the driving force behind it all. Symbolism is the basis for almost every piece of poetry written so far, barring some of the works of Doctor Seuss. One recurring piece of symbolism found throughout the literary world is the use of temperature. The warmth of the sun or a comforting smile, the cold of night or a dark hospital room, temperature plays a part in many poems and plays its part well. But the part it plays can vary from writer to writer, poem to poem. The three major uses of temperatures though are to show the warmth of memory versus the harsh cold of reality, the warmth of comfort, and how warmth is used to show life and vitality while cold is used to signify harshness and cruelty. The first two poems to discuss are I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by William Wordsworth and Disabled by Wilfred Owen. During the late 1800 s it was acceptable for men to have mistress , I believe that is what Conrad tried to show. That s why Kurtz s intended never questioned why he was taking so long. She probably knew he had a mistress and couldn t really say anything against it. The mistress managed to gain some type of control over Kurtz, and that is why he hadn t left yet. Even Marlow was in awe when he saw the beautiful native woman with jewelry on. Perhaps she was a wealthy woman, and that s why the people respected her. The last female character that I will examine is Marlow s aunt. She is perhaps a wealthy widow, who also has nothing better to do with her money. She believes strongly on the topic of imperialism. She thinks that it helps people progress. She was the one who got Marlow this opportunity. Marlow s aunt is the combination of both characters. She was naïve and controlling at the same time. The 1920s were a decade of rebirth characterised by the founding of the quot;American Dream quot; the belief that anyone can, and should, achieve material success. The defining writer of the 1920s was F. Scott Fitzgerald whose most famous novel, The Great Gatsby, has become required reading for present day high school students. We study Fitzgerald s novel for the same reason we study Shakespeare. The literature composed by both authors contains themes and morals that continue to be relevant to modern society. As a result, this novel could have easily been written in modern times. In his novel, Fitzgerald criticises the American Dream by describing its negative characteristics: class struggles between the rich and the poor, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I thought he knew something about breeding but he wasn t fit to lick my shoe (Fitzgerald 39). The adulterous behaviour of Myrtle and Tom, as well as the carelessness of Daisy and Jordan, illustrates the corruptibility of the rich. Both Tom and Daisy are morally corrupt, having little concern for how they treat the people around them. Daisy and her husband display their indifference to human values in episodes involving sexual exploitation and careless violence (Fahey 72). The Buchanans are not the only shallow ones, Jordan is incurably dishonest and her opinion that It takes two to make an accident, (Fitzgerald 63) is an attempt to justify of her thoughtlessness. They were careless people, Tom and Daisy they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made, (Fitzgerald 187) says Nick. Since the wealthy social class which they belong to is immoral, they can get away with being corrupt; a corruption that comes from a false sense of security in their money, and the belief they have achived the american dream. • 25. Teaching New Meanings For The Sorority Environment You quickly become what you surround yourself with. This concept was a constant reminder my mother gave me when I moved off to college. As a senior, I find this advice to hold very true when I reflect on the organizations that I have been a part of. My sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, has had the biggest influence on not only my character, but my language as well. What first seemed like jargon has now become primary language. From learning new meanings for everyday vocabulary to different intonational patterns, my language has adapted to the environment that I have surrounded myself with for the past three years. Within a sorority, there are various terms that are held secret due to our ritual ceremonies; however, there are also numerous terms that we will use in everyday language. These terms are average words that are used throughout the day by a vast majority of the world population. However, when the words are used in the sorority environment, they take on a completely new meaning. In other words, they are semantically altered. A primary example is the transition of the words big and little from adjectives to proper nouns. Instead of defining an object s size, these terms are now used to name your big and little sister in the sorority. I remember getting asked my freshman year, Are you going to rush? I immediately thought, Rush where? As I transitioned into the Greek community, I quickly realized that the term rush changes meaning and now means going through sorority or ... The Effects Of Child Maltreatment On Children In my research paper, I am going to discuss the negative effects that child maltreatment has on a child throughout their childhood and their life. Child maltreatment is defined as any act or series of acts of commission or omission by a parent or other caregiver that results in harm, potential for harm, or threat of harm to a child (US Department of Health and Human Services, 2007). Child maltreatment includes physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, as well as neglect and failure to supervise (Franks, Miller, Schelble, 2010). Further on in my paper, I am going to discuss child maltreatment and the effects it has on children. I am also going to discuss the interventions used to reduce the effects. Child Maltreatment: Negative Effects Child maltreatment represents one of the most heinous examples of the failure of the caregiving environment to promote positive social and emotional development (Cicchetti Toth, 2005). Research has demonstrated that child abuse and neglect are associated with a variety of negative and enduring psychological, behavioral, and social outcomes (Cicchetti Valentino, 2006; Widom, 2000). In addition, maltreatment appears to be one common thread that links systems involved youth (Stone Zibulsky (2015). Whenever people think of someone as gifted they tend to think of superpower type qualities. During the book The Chosen, written by Chaim Potok, it depicts several different characters pertaining different talents. Characters such as Reuven, Danny, or even Mr. Malter all possess abilities that help them in life. The types of gifts displayed in the book are not what people usually think of as special gifts, but a special talent can seem as little as forgiving easily and genuinely care for others well being or as big as recalling information at a moments notice. In The Chosen, characters such as Reuven, Danny, and Mr. Malter all demonstrate certain gifts that they maintain. To begin with, Reuven Malter demonstrates many of his different types of gifts throughout the story. Two of the key traits Reuven reveals are the gifts of compassion and the mind for logic. In the beginning of the book Danny tries to kill Reuven by hitting him with a baseball, however he later comes and apologizes to him and Reuven forgives him (Potok, 70). Not everyone, when provided with a chance, will forgive someone who wronged them. The piglets all had different factors and the piglets where all still born. We started observing these piglets on September 11th 2017. We observed these piglets for three weeks until mostly all of the piglets where decomposed all the way to bones. The piglet that was burned (piglet 2) was the one to decompose the fastest out of the natural state piglet in the grass (piglet 1) and a buried piglet (piglet 10). My initial thought was correct that piglet 2 would decompose fastest due to less skin for the bugs to get through the skin and get inside of the piglet. Piglet 2 decomposed on day 9 it was completely bones with no skin or flesh left on the bones due to maggots and other insects. Piglet 1 still had maggots on its legs on day 9 and was decomposed on day 11 with only bones left. The piglet 10 still has not been completely decomposed on day 15. The speed of decomposition is different when the piglet is naked on the black top (piglet6) or a clothed piglet on black top (piglet 7). My initial thought was that piglet 6 would decompose faster because there would be one less layer to get through than on piglet 7. I was correct that the piglet 6 did decompose faster than piglet 7. • 33. A Speech On A Quiet Summer Night Essay Introduction On a quiet summer night on June 17, 2015 a 19 year old young man, wearing a gray sweatshirt, dark jeans and Timberlands, walked into a historic, pre civil war era church. There was no lock preventing his entry. There was no security guard he had to walk by. There was only a security camera that would catch his unassuming entrance. Once inside he sat quietly as the regular attendees held a small prayer service. He was welcomed and sat with the small group as they read the word of God. No one could tell from his demeanor or his appearance he was there to do unthinkable harm to those inside. And without provocation or warning he began to shoot one unarmed person after another, after another. He took the necessary time needed to ensure each shot was a lethal shot as most of the parishners were dead before emergency medical attention would arrive. The armed gunman was not concerned he would be stopped by any of those inside Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church. He was not concerned any of his victims would have a firearm that could be used against him. Why? Maybe it s because people of worship feel safe enough inside their house of worship. Therefore, a firearm is unnecessary. Maybe it s because even legal Concealed Weapons Permit (CWP) holders cannot freely carry a firearm inside a church. No matter the reason, no one inside the church felt compelled to carry a concealed weapon that fateful night in Charleston, South Carolina. On another sultry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

David, on the other hand, is a social outcast and spends most of his time watching TV, specifically, his favorite show, Pleasantville. The road to enlightenment was not an easy road, however. David and Jennifer had a difficult time maturing and leaving behind their old masks; the town of Pleasantville had a very difficult time gaining a new perspective the town leaders tried everything they could to forbid people from leaving their perfect little world. This parallel of the cave explains Plato s first conclusion of how education can often be difficult because it means turning your back on everything familiar. The movie also very clearly identifies with Plato s second conclusion that explains why philosophers are often ridiculed. When Jennifer and David were transported to Pleasantville, they were immediately hated for disrupting the order in the town. They had to learn how to cope with a completely different world, while also instilling in others their new perspective and experience. While Pleasantville is black and white, the town represents the ignorance that people in the cave feel. However, when the town begins to turn to color, the people are finally seeing the light and escaping from the cave. This I somewhat ironic because, for both the people of Pleasantville and David and Jen, they all begin their journey in black and white. This is interesting because, from Jen and David s ... The underpinning philosophical basis for the methodological approaches the research adopts. By definition, an underpinning philosophy means the foundation beliefs/the system on which the research is based around. In the case of Joe Geraci s research, his main methods of data collection were those of observation and conversation. In research, observations can either be overt or disclosed (that is, the participants know they are being studied) or covert/undisclosed (where the true identity of the researcher is kept secret from the group, a deception) In general, observations are in fact a relatively cheap method of data collection to carry out, and the researcher needs few resources. However, what they are is very time consuming for the researcher. In 1995, Bassey said that the main purpose of research is to create new knowledge and understanding for us, to help us know something we did not previously know (Bassey, M 1995), which is what Geraci as a researcher is hoping to achieve here by experiencing his subjects behavior first hand in ... Sarah Walker Gordon Deecker INSC 3909 December 14, 2015 The Neurological and Behavioral Changes Associated with Learning Music as a Child Some would argue that humans are intrinsically wired to produce music. As an infant, the sounds children make while learning language mimic the tonal shape of language. Parents also tend to use exaggerated highs and lows in their voices much like a simple melody to prepare and help develop the infant s capacity to learn language. It has also been found that the neural networks used in language acquisition are very similar to those used in music acquisition (Mithen 2006). Language acquisition and development is imperative for an individual to survive, and if training the brain with music can strengthen those networks, this is a subject of great importance. Since the 1940s doctors have recognized the impacts of music on the behavior of patients with mental disabilities, and from this discovery, the effects of music on a regular developing brain became a subject of great interest. Researchers recognized that there was potentially an opportunity to increase brain development in children resulting in discernable enhancements of skills into adulthood (Reschke Hernandez, 2011). It is now known that childhood music education improves skills required for playing music, namely motor functioning, auditory discrimination, and long and short term recall. These skills, learned through music instruction, transfer to non musical skills such as verbal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This offers the advantage of having special considerations even when the criteria for lending are not met. In short, the informal market does not have set standards to measure up to when financial services are needed, and therefore they are able to offer flexible services according to individual needs. Motamen Samadian (2012) accedes to these claims in her presentation, identifying intimate knowledge of requirement and abilities between lenders and borrowers, better rates of loan recovery as far as the lenders are concerned, repayment flexibilities and minimum protocol as the advantages of informal credit. A Comparison of Blue Remembered Hills by Denis Potter and Hope and Glory produced by John Boorman There are many significant similarities and differences between the two extracts I have studied. Although the two pieces of drama are set in the same time period, they offer a great contrast in terms of their setting. Blue Remember Hills, set in 1943, is a naturalistic play situated in the countryside. Whereas Hope and Glory very much displays the effects of war in towns and cities, particularly the suburbs of London. In addition Blue Remember Hills follows the life of a gang of children who are played by adult actors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my research I incorporate the evacuation of children during the Second World War. During the Second World War many children were evacuated from the major towns and cities Main targets for bombing) into the countryside which was considered to be a safer place. At first many evacuees felt homesick and uncomfortable with their new surrounding but adapted quickly to the open fields and freedom of the countryside. Many received good homes where they were well cared for and provided with hearty meals. However this was not the case for all evacuees. A minority of the evacuees were taken advantage of and used for domestic help around the house and some were even abused. This applies to Donald Duck in Blue Remember Hills. However it is clearly evident in characters such as easy going Willie, that the countryside takes away the restrictions in the cities and provides an safe, open environment for a child imagination to wonder, provides a good contrast to this as the film shows the dangers that the children face in their everyday lives, even the games they play on things they collect refer to war. Various themes are used through out the pieces, some of which include bullying, war, death, childhood innocence gangs, bullying and the classification of gender. However Hope and Glory has the additional themes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
