Honor in Much Ado About Nothing Essay
Throughout the history of the world, honor has been an important part of life. In literature, as well,
honor plays an important role in many plots and the development of almost any character.
Shakespeare s play Much Ado About Nothing is no exception. In this comedy about love and
marriage, honor is revealed as the primary reason for many of the actions taken by several different
characters. When Claudio breaks off his wedding with Hero, he does it because he believes she is not
chastised as she claims to be and in being such, she would dishonor him as well as her father if the
marriage were to proceed as planned. The play is an accurate depiction of the honor code and the
different standards for men and women of the time in regards to ... Show more content on

Her honor is disgraced for her actions and Claudio will no longer accept her as his wife because of the
dishonor she has caused him.
Shakespeare uses both Claudio and Leonato to represent the males of the time and the honor code they
were held to. Claudio is in no way held to the same pre marital expectations as Hero, which, at the
time, was the case for all men. For instance, when Hero is accused of being with a man prior to her
marriage, no one questions what man and, quite frankly, no one cares what man. Shakespeare also
shows how men are judged and given honor based on how their women act. When Leonato learns of
the accusations his daughter receives on her wedding day he scolds her and says,
Wherefore? Why doth not every living thing
Cry shame upon he? Could she here deny
The story that is printed in her blood?
Do not live, Hero; do not open thine eyes...
Why had I not with charitable hand
Took up a beggar s issue at my gates,
Who smirched thus and mired with infamy,
I might have said, no part of it is mine;
This shame derives itself from unknown lions ? (IV, i)
This quote shows how a father at that time would wish to have no part of his daughter for committing
such acts because he knows of the dishonorable reputation he will receive as a result. In the time of
Shakespeare, men and women were held to different standards and honored and dishonored for
different reasons. Chastity is one of those reasons. For a

Sleep Apnea Effects
Humans need sleep. Sleep is essential to a myriad of proper bodily functions. It effects memory, focus,
mobility, and general brain function. If excessively deprived from sleep, individuals will certainly
experience adverse health effects, imminent death being one of them (Worthman, 2008). Although
many experts disagree on the details of what comprises good sleep (hours, environment, noise level,
body position etc.) the necessity of sleep is widely accepted (Worthman, 2008). Despite the critical
importance of sleep to general health, there remains a large population afflicted by traits that inhibit
them from sleeping, or sleeping well. Again, due to the important role of sleep, one would anticipate a
decrease in sleep disorders over the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The frequency at which it appears varies from region to region and country to country (Punjabi, 2008).
There is also variability within the trait itself, as some individuals experience it while others do not.
Additionally, OSA has a hereditable basis as genetic factors like craniofacial structure and average
body weight are passed on to offspring. Apart from cultural activities (smoking and alcohol intake)
these two genetic components are fundamental when discussing the presence of (or risk factors for)
OSA (Nunn et al., 2016). Finally, there also exists a correlation between sleep apnea and reproductive
success. At first glance, the deleterious effects of sleep apnea on the human body could lead one to
believe that the disorder has no relevance to reproductive success. Terrence Davidson, however,
argues that the adverse human susceptibility to OSA is a tradeoff for an adaptation that gave early
Homo sapiens great advantage to survive and reproduce. That tradeoff was the anatomical structure
for language. The natural selection pressure for speech and language was so strong that the undesired
consequence of OSA was carried forward to modern man (Davidson, 2003) Therefore, according to
Davidson, Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a product of natural selection, because the same structure that
makes individuals vulnerable to OSA was selected for in the first ancestors to produce

Formative Assessment Essay
According to Black (1999), formative assessment is the short term collection and use of evidence to
guide learning. Boud (1995) states that, formative assessment is crucial because it is all about
improving and feedback. Formative assessment has been described as the journey, not the outcome
(Wisdom, 2006). Formative assessment is also known as assessment for learning.
The major purpose of formative assessment is developmental, to help students monitor their own
understanding and progress. Its nature is diagnostic, identifying weaknesses allowing students to
spend time and effort on improvement (Petty, 2004). It must offer feedback that can help students
adjust their performance, whether it comes from lecturers, other students or self evaluation ... Show

Knight Mantz (2003), allow students to establish their own claims to achievement, using what they see
as the best evidence to hand. by using portfolios, teachers are able to provide timely feedback but
delay final evaluation of the students work until the students have had time to reflect on their own
work and make revisions. Portfolios can give students responsibility and choice. They make students
more responsible for preparing an excellent end product, and they often allow them the freedom to
choose which pieces of work should be included in their portfolio and evaluated. Supporters of
portfolios claim that they can lessen the impact of grading by encouraging discovery and
experimentation. They allow students to take risks and revise their work, which makes their
performance much more authentic (Banta, 2003).
Authentic assessment is based on meaningful performances that are executed in real life situations
(Erickson, 2001). With authentic assessments, students demonstrate competency through teacher
directed activities that simulate real life contexts (Baron Boschee, 1995). Supporters of authentic
assessments claim that through administering such assessments, teachers can observe how students
use knowledge to accomplish goals instead of simply regurgitating it (Prouty, 2006; Shepard,

Gothic Literature
Art has no influence upon action. It annihilates the desire to act. It is superbly sterile. The books that
the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame. The similarities and differences
between Doctor Faustus, a play by Christopher Marlowe, and The Picture of Dorian Gray, a novel by
Oscar Wilde, are pronounced and characterized by their underlying gothic theme. These can be seen
all throughout both forms of literature, including in both character s demise through plot progression
and internal struggles. One way in which both Faustus and Dorian are alike is that they both sold their
soul in a way. Faustus was able to get Mephistophilis, a demon, to do for him, and bring him
whatsoever (1141 Doctor Faustus). Dorian was able to make portrait s appearance change, instead of
his own. As his soul would get more and more ugly and twisted, it would get represented by his
portrait. In this sense, both faustus and Dorian gave their true soul in return for something else. For
Faustus, he sold it for power. He felt like he knew everything and he just needed more power. He sold
his soul to the devil for that. Dorion on the other hand, sold his soul simply for means appearance.

Guns N Roses Reunion Essay
Fred Durst, the frontman of the American nu metal band from Jacksonville, Florida Limp Bizkit, had
claimed that he and his band were somehow the backbone of the sought after Guns N Roses reunion.
However, it has been said that the original frontman of Guns N Roses Axl Rose, plans to end his
music career for good after the band s reunion. The organizers are still in talks whether the original
members of Guns N Roses will be performing on the same stage again after they split up. And it
seems that the reunion is kicking off after Axl Rose and lead guitarist Slash have already reconciled
after a long conflict. During the recent gig of Limp Bizkit at the Reading festival, Durst made a shout
out to the crowd, I d like you to know that we re responsible for Axl and Slash being back together,
Fred Durst also said, We had a meeting, and it went really well. And when Fred Durst was asked by a
spectator about his role in a possible Guns N Roses reunion, Fred Durst said that he has a strong

Analyzing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr s Open Letter
In 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was arrested during a peaceful protest march in Birmingham,
Alabama. While he was incarcerated he wrote an open letter, using the salutation My Dear Fellow
Clergymen, explaining his beliefs and his mission. It is a powerful and moving essay that clarifies Dr.
King s position. Even more, it was a call to action for all good people to join the cause of the civil
rights movement.
Dr. King s explicit audience for the letter were the clergymen who were critical of the demonstrations
and even questioned Dr. King s right to be in Birmingham in the first place. Dr. King explained, to
begin with, that his position as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC)
brought him to Birmingham, as he had been invited by an affiliate organization. Dr. King further made
the case that no invitation was really necessary. As he stated, I am in Birmingham because injustice is
here...Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. The injustices in Birmingham, he argued,
affected every citizen of the United States. No one could be an outsider in one s own country or
become involved in a cause that was not his as determined by geographic demarcation. The cause of
freedom was the right and the responsibility of every American. It was to this much larger audience
that Dr. King wrote. In particular, the section in which Dr. King described the pain and humiliation
suffered by blacks was meant for a white audience. African Americans

The Synonyms Of Perseverance
Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th. This quote means that you are not always
gonna succeed on the first try, but if you really want to succeed, you have to work past your failures
and keep working until you can reach your goal. Perseverance. The dictionary defines perseverance as
¨steady persistence in a course of action, purpose, or state, especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles,
or discouragement¨. Synonyms of perseverance are ¨steadfastness¨, ¨persistence¨, and ¨pertinacity¨.
Antonyms of perseverance are ¨cowardice¨, ¨lethargy¨, and ¨apathy¨. Perseverance is important
because you are going to run into difficulties or obstacles in your lifetime. You have to be able to push
through the difficulties and obstacles to be able to move on and continue with your life. An athlete has
to be able to persevere through an injury to be able to play again. If the athlete feels bad about himself

Case Study, Marc Chagall
Discuss how the environment and other influences, for example personal beliefs, have shaped the
work of at least one artist you have studied this year. Refer to work done by this artist to substantiate
your statements.
Marc Chagall was a Russian/French artist who was born into a poor family of Hassidic Jews on the
7th July 1887. Throughout his working life he was based in Russia from 1906 1910, then he moved to
France for four more years before moving back to Russia and Soviet Belarus for eight years. Chagall
was strongly influenced, but not limited to, movements such as Cubism, Fauvism and Surrealism.
These movements are demonstrated in his work through the geometric shapes, his use of colour and
the seemingly random placement of people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because of the circle in the middle of the artwork joining the man, the goat and the
background.
This artwork is a surreal representation of the town of Vitebsk where Chagall grew up. Chagall is
trying to comment of the relationship of people with the land, which is demonstrated by the man
looking at the goat as an equal and also by the woman milking a goat. As there are in many of Chagall
s works, there is a spiritual reference in this artwork. The goat and the Star of David are the symbolic
references. The goat is a great symbol of sacrifice for the Jewish religion. The colours in the artwork
are reminiscent of the circus or other flamboyant events. The man could represent the ringmaster. This
could all show the way in which man lives in harmony with animals and the environment. The large
circle in the middle of the page could symbolise the sun and the all the chaos surrounding it could
show that the earth and everything on it is dependent on the sun for life. The bright colours could also
symbolise the fake world, opposed to that of the world when Chagall grew up.
In The Green Violinist (1923 24) we see a green man wearing a purple coat, which is composed of
geometrical shapes. He is placed in the centre of the artwork and is standing on or floating in the air
above a couple of houses playing a violin. The fact that he is the only object that is coloured brightly

On Sunday 5 November 2017, at least 26 people died and 20 others were injured in the
First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. This incident marked the 307th mass shooting in
2017 and it was the largest mass shooting in Texas. The mass murderer of this event was Devin
Patrick Kelley, who was 26 years old. Kelley began shooting at the church early Sunday morning. On
Sunday, the church was having its morning service at 11 a.m. and the shooting began shortly after.
Kelley was armed with two weapons, a rifle and a handgun. One of the weapons Kelley was armed
with was a Ruger military style rifle (Montgomery, Mele, Fernandez, 2017). Immediately following
the shooting, an armed bystander shot Kelley and wounded him. Kelley dropped his Ruger AR rifle,
and was able to get in his car. Kelley was able to flee in his vehicle, but was later found dead after
running his car off of the road. Later, an autopsy showed Kelley had three gunshot wounds. One was
in the leg, one in the torso, and one in the head which was self inflicted.
The first social psychology theory that may explain this event is copycat violence. Copycat violence is
a social psychology theory which describes the imitation of a specific violent act that has been
depicted in the media. A well known form of copycat violence is suicide. A study illustrated the more

The Problem Of Environmental Protection Essay
Theodore Roosevelt had once said, The nation behaves well if it treats the natural resources as assets
which it must turn over to the next generation increased, and not impaired in value . These words have
resonated since and have been an example as to why it is our duty as inhabitants of this planet to
provide protection to the ever so fragile environment. But what is Environmental protection exactly?
Well it is one of the most important, and expensive problems businesses and society are facing today.
Why you may ask? Since the industrial age all the countries around the world have been burning an
assortment of fuel to power factories, vehicles, heat homes, and even to cook with and when these
fuels are burned they emit carbon dioxide and various other chemicals which over time add up and
take a very long time to breakdown. As a result they trap heat from the sun in the earth s atmosphere
raising the global temperature and causing a domino effect on the environment. Likewise companies
produce hazardous waste and dump them illegally in waters which kills vast amounts of marine life.
Although laws are in place to protect the planet, inventions are slowly being created to provide
alternative sources of energy and agencies already exist to protect the environment. However it is our
duty as people in a society to act on our own by demanding for our government to show greater
concern for the environment by reforming environmental protection laws with stricter guide lines,

What makes ‘a king into ‘the king and then onto Emperor and Augustus? What made King Charles,
Charles the Great? In Einhard s Life of Charlemagne, a very succinct description of King Charles
ideals, beliefs, attitudes and traits are depicted along with his life s territorial as well as mental

Christianity in its glorious form in an almost Camelot like kingdom. Einhard s literary work gives
society an insight into King Charles and what made him capable of being Augustus. As indicated by

course of his life Charlemagne was able to create great ties with fellow leaders around the world and
through various empires, and although he was also trying to aid Christians who needed help in foreign
lands, he seemed to have this need to have good relations with everyone. According to Einhard, he had
great friendships all around the world and always welcomed foreigners in his kingdom and palace for
only one simple thing in return. For he felt that he would be rewarded for his troubles if they
[foreigners] praised his generosity and gave him a good reputation (Einhard 2004, 212). He was a
great king who wanted to go down in history. As per Einhard, that seems to be Charlemagne s only
selfish trait. He apparently only wore the national dress of the Frankish with few exceptions, which

Broken Spears Summary
The book, Broken Spears was an interesting reading that talked about the Spanish conquest of
Tenochtitlan. Throughout the book, it becomes clear that the Spanish were successful in their conquest
as a result of a number of factors. The Spanish were intimidating in appearance and in their weaponry.
They had animals that the Aztecs had never seen before. They also formed alliances with rival tribes,
like the Tlaxcaltecas tribe. Finally, one of the key reasons that the Spaniards were able to successfully
conquer the Aztecs was due to the fact that Motecuhzoma himself, believed that Cortes and his men
were gods. In regards appearance, the Spanish were essentially covered from head to toe in iron armor.
Even the weapons they carried were covered in iron. The Aztecs were unaccustomed to the iron clad
individuals. In regards to weaponry, the Spanish were, even more, intimidating in the fact that they
had cannons. The Aztecs describe the cannon to Motecuhzoma, a thing like a ball of stone comes out
of its entrails: it comes shooting sparks and raining fire...smoke that comes out of it has a pestilent
odor. The odor penetrates even the brain and causes great discomfort ( 30). For me personally, the only
reason I can think of for Cortes to fire off a cannon was to show dominance over the Indians. For
people who had never even heard of a cannon before, it is understandable that the Native Americans
were fearful of Cortes and his men. Along with the iron clad armor and weapons the

The following line proves my statement, quot;To accept passively an unjust system is to cooperate
with that system; thereby the oppressed become as evil as the oppressor. quot;
The second form that Dr. King talks about is hatred and violence. This is another method that he
disagrees with. King explains how violence only creates temporary results and creates more
complicated problems in the future. As a minister and deep believer in peace, King refused to accept
this way. He also believed that this form will only bring injustice to future generations. He explained
how violence today will bring chaos tomorrow. An excellent statement made by Dr. King to disprove
this method is, quot; The old law of an eye for an eye leaves everybody blind quot;.
The third, and final, way that Marther Luther King Jr., talked about was nonviolent resistance. This
form of dealing with oppression was strongly supported by King. He believed that the oppressed must
consider the benefits of both methods, acquiescence and aggressiveness. A line that best describes my
statement is quot;...the principle of nonviolent resistance seeks to reconcile the truths of two opposites

Stereotype Threat And Self Handicapping
For the past century, stereotype threat and self handicapping have been of extreme interest to social
psychologists. The reasoning behind why people react in certain ways due to the circumstances they
are in is a huge discussion topic that interests the field in big way. Stereotype threat occurs when an
individual is at risk of confirming a negative stereotype about them or about one s group (Steele
Aronson, 1995). Previous research has shown that being the victim of a stereotype threat can actually
alter one s performance (Spencer,Steele, Quinn, 1998). Studies have shown an effect of stereotype on
performance in relation to many different domains. One particular experiment done by Spencer, Steele
Quinn (1998) wanted to observe if the stereotype that women have weaker math ability compared to
men would hinder math performance. The results showed that being explicitly primed of this
stereotype prior to taking a difficult math test led to an impairment in math performance within
women compared to men. This suggests that being the victim to a negative stereotype can indeed
affect one s performance. The previously stated evidence shows that negative stereotypes might have a
much bigger impact on individuals than we may think.
Previous research has furthered this notion and shown that self handicapping is often used in order to

Buzz Marketing As A Viral Marketing Tool
Buzz marketing is a viral marketing tactic that is the interaction of consumers focused on maximizing
the word of mouth potential of a particular campaign, product or service, exaggerating or sometimes
modifying the original message. The emotion, excitement and brand facts are transmitted through
conversations between consumers friends, family or the mass audience through word of mouth and
use of social media platforms. (Rouse)
Buzz marketing is a different approach to marketing than the traditional marketing strategies with use
of radio, out of home, print or television. Traditional mass marketing entails advertising to the mass
market with a goal of converting a portion of those consumers to a brand. Buzz marketing is all about
word of mouth, and leverages, not simply the power of the trendsetter, but also the power of wanting
to be the trendsetter . (Walker,2004). Marketers activate buzz marketing as an effective, perceived
unbiased message to gain trust and loyalty among consumers. Tremor feels that buzz marketing is the
most effective way for a message to travel through networks of real people communicating with
others. (Walker, 2004). The early starters that are originally targeted by marketers are the key to the
message traveling from their internal circle to eventually penetrating the mass market. Word of mouth
is not just successful when communication occurs between friends and family members, but
acquaintances as well. To crate buzz marketers target

Prejudice And Racism In The 21st Century
Laurell Hamilton once said, There is no light without dark, no good without evil, no male without
female, no right without wrong... Nothing can exist if its direct opposite does not also exist. Meaning
that, in this world, there are individuals capable of both wholehearted goodness and obscene hatred.
Throughout time, there have always been attitudes of racism, but also of kindness, thereby leading to
the conclusion that we are all simply a product of our environments. In a world where everyone has
loved and hated, where do you stand? Over the years, humans have developed a culture of hatred and
racism, rooted in underlying fear, towards those who are different than themselves. For example, in

Voip Security
Abstract
Over the past decade, the Department of Defense (DoD) has transitioned from its older public
switched telephone network (PSTN) network to an almost total Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
network. They are being adopted by DoD because they offer higher flexibility, more features, and
lower costs than the traditional PSTN infrastructure. However, VoIP systems also represent a higher
complexity in terms of architecture, protocols, and implementation, with a corresponding increase in
the potential for misuse. This case study examines the current state of affairs on DoD VoIP security
through research of known/disclosed/potential eavesdropping and interception threats to DoD systems.

A signaling protocol, such as session initiation protocol (SIP), performs the legwork: locating users,
call parameters, modifications and building or ending a session. A media transport protocol, like real
time transport protocol (RTP) handles the data portion of a connection, which includes digitizing,
encoding and ordering. Networking protocols, such as IP, are wrapped around the VoIP packets when
they are transmitted through the proper servers to the end user.
VoIP communication can take occur on both LANs or on WANs, as is the case with internal calls on a
corporate network. If a VoIP user wishes to call a destination on PSTN, a special gateway is used.
These devices act as connectors between the data network and the SS7 network used by POTS. They
translate the incoming data into a format the recipient, be it IP or SS7, can understand.

How Does Dickens Make Fun Of Mrs Sparsit
Explore the ways Dickens makes fun of Mrs Sparsit
Mrs Sparsit is introduced to Hard Times seven chapters into the book. She spends her time scheming
against Louisa and cherishing her secret hopes of one day marrying Bounderby until he banishes her
from his home. Dickens makes fun of Mrs Sparsit in many ways, including nominative determinism,
detailing her increasingly desperate attempts to ruin Bounderby s marriage in order to have him marry
her and her relationship with Bounderby as well as by emphasizing her classical features and by
playing up the way she carries herself.

Apartheid In South Africa
The music from the Apartheid in South Africa was extremely important in the movement for freedom.
At a time when there wasn t much money for the Anti Apartheid Movement, music became the most
important weapon. The songs sung all over South Africa in resistance to the Apartheid intimidated the
government more than weapons and violence could because of the powerful meaning behind each
song that unified and strengthened the resistance. Artists all over South Africa wrote songs speaking
out against the government and its cruel laws and although many of them were banned, the people of
South Africa heard them and sang them to protest the rules of the government. While there are many

The earliest variations of Nkosi Sikelel Afrika , like the upbeat Masowe Apostles and the slower
Marankes, inspired many artists to do the same. Some used the lyrics or melody to add to their own
original songs, like the aggressive rap by Prophets of da City and Dan Moyane s fusion of the song s
lyrics with the melody of Die Stem Van Suid Afrika , South Africa s national anthem during the
Apartheid. Others used the song as inspiration for songs with similar lyrics, like Nkosi Yethu by Isaian
Shembe and Mwari Komberera Africa by John Maranke. Despite being banned by the government,
Nkosi Sikelel Afrika continued to be sung throughout the Apartheid and became so important that it
was named the national anthem of South Africa at the end of the Apartheid. Although Nkosi Sikelel
Afrika was originally a religious hymn, the lyrics had a very prominent political connotation. The
song was not a revolutionary song in the traditional sense, but a prayer for freedom and equality. The
meaning of the lyrics, shown below, called for the Lord to help the people. The seven additional
verses, especially the last one, transformed the song from a religious hymn to a song calling for hope
and the power to fight back. Although the words do not directly attack the government, they are much
more powerful to the people of South Africa than any revolutionary song. Lord, bless Africa May her

World War II General George S. Patton reflected, These men suffered enough for a hundred lifetimes,
and no one in this country should be allowed to forget it. The men he is referring to were part of a
tactical unit called the Ghost Army. They all could have died if even one thing went wrong. The Ghost
Army was part of the 23rd Headquarters Special troops. This organization was top secret until 1996.
These men and missions are still spoken of and remembered to this very day ( 23rd Headquarters

Operation Fortitude is a go, Commander Patton said. Many people wonder what type of tactical tricks
did the unit use and how they knew about it. Actually, the U.S. army got these ideas of the plan of
deception from The first President of the United States: George Washington. Washington practiced
deception as an art rather than a science. Now the Ghost army was using this Art to fool the Germans (
Ghost Soldier magazine ). The art of tactical deception was their best skill. They wanted to mislead
the enemy forces that were going to fall for the tanks and the fake attacks that they were presenting.
The commander of the unit had to assign the recruits positions so that each designer and artist would
know what to operate: the speakers manipulating gunshot sounds and explosions or the inflatable tank
balloons meant to deceive the enemy into thinking a real unit was closeby. The commander created a
group called the Effect group, and they would be operating the important equipment in the operation (
Ghost Army Tricked Hitler ). What exactly, though, did the Ghost Army do on the battlefield? One
soldier, Jack Massey, commented, We were told we were going to be using inflatable equipment to try
and fool the Germans into thinking that we were a real army, when we were in effect, I suppose, a
rubber army (www.npr.org). They are all set and ready to go into action, they start their journey
through the woods and into a field. Now the army is now setting up their fake tanks off of a ranch in
Germany and waiting for the action to begin. The unit finally finished with their plan and successfully

Summary Of Flight Of Persephone By Claudia Kuran
Throughout the history, art has played an irreplaceable role in shaping the culture by allowing human
beings to express themselves. Art is a great tool to thoroughly explore and understand the story of
humanity. Specifically, the oldest artifact was found in Africa, where humanity initiated. This artifact
was dated to 30,000 BC, when humans struggled to survive in harsh nature, yet a sense of creativity
was still kindled in them. Since then, art has become a timeless story teller of human civilizations,
including the Egyptian, Greek and Roman. Furthermore, art also witnessed glorious time periods in
human history, such as the Renaissance. Ancient art was not only a key milestone in human evolution,
but also a limitless source of inspiration for modern artists. In other words, a contemporary piece of
artwork can reflect ideas of art from the past in several ways. For instance, Flight of Persephone by
Claudia Kunin is an artwork that employs modern, digital art skills, yet greatly influenced by the
ancient art spirit. Claudia Kunin is an American photographer, who was born on August, 1954 in
California ( Resume of Claudia Kunin ). She graduated from University of Oregon with a Bachelor of
Science in Psychology ( Resume of Claudia Kunin ). Kunin launched her career as a commercial

Understanding Library Impact On Student Learning
Many college decisions alone are made upon the evaluation of a campus facilities, most importantly,
the library; the central spot students meet and attain their studies. The Watauga campus of Caldwell
Community College and Technical Institute has been neglected and is in dire need of a more
sophisticated and modern academic library. Academic libraries benefit students, as well as faculty
members. They offer a place for students studying alone or with a group, provide reference materials,
and in some snazzy locations, a place to get a cup of Joe. Education is the basis of personal growth
and professional success and a library is a wonderful place to begin this journey. According to Derek
Rodriguez in the scholarly journal, Understanding Library Impacts on Student Learning, libraries

Developing Countries Entering A Bid For Host Major Sports...
There are an increasing number of less developed countries entering a bid to host major sport events
such as the Olympic Games or the FIFA World Cup. Less developed countries, also called developing
countries or newly industrialised countries, are defined according to the HDI (Human Development
Index), which is composed of some measurable elements such as GNP (Gross National Product) per
capita, number of years schooling and life expectancy (European Commission 2011). Some countries
that are regarded as developing have experienced fast development (especially in manufacturing and
tertiary industries) in recent years. Simultaneously, a number of these countries such as China, Brazil
and South Africa have held major sports events . Hosting these events has brought a multitude of
benefits to them. It is clear that hosting of major sports events has a significant effect on less
developed countries. Although such an activity could be negative in terms of its environmental impact,
because of carbon emissions produced by overseas visitors travelling to the event, it is generally
positive in terms of economy, culture and international status. This essay will focus on the economic
benefits and subsequent development opportunities of hosting major sports events, particularly in less
developed countries. Hosting a major sports event is a significant opportunity to boost economic
growth for the developing countries. Enormous funds are invested in various sectors, concurrently

Foreign Aid In Australia
Aid has never been an altruistic process; countries have always given aid to areas that best further
their own national interests. Countries give aid for a number of reasons; they range from securing
political connections to creating more favourable trade routes. Pure altruism is never the number one
reason a country gives aid, and Australia is no exception. National interest lies at the core of all of
Australia s foreign aid policies, (DFAT 2015). As a nation Australia would most benefit from
concentrating her aid on the Indo Pacific region. Providing the nations within Australia s regional
neighbourhood with aid results in economic growth for both Australia and her aid recipients. Aid also
stabilises trade and security within the region, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Focussing Australia s aid on the Indo Pacific region leads to regional dominance, which in turn affords
Australia certain privileges within the international community. Australia is the largest (in terms of
population and military strength) and most economically developed state in Oceania, this awards her
with certain privileges and if she were to stop giving aid within the region those privileges could be
revoked, (Schwebel 2009). These privileges include being a member of the G20, and if Australia were
to stop giving aid many countries would cease to see her as a good international citizen, which could
have dire effects for Australia, (Beeson 2015). Aid also allows Australia to maintain her dominance as
a regional power. It continues to solidify regional partnerships in the face of increasing interest in the
region from emerging donors such as China, (Lowy Institute 2015). Australia must thus continue
giving aid within the Indo Pacific region lest her place as a regional power be overtaken by an
emerging donor, (Hayward Jones 2013). Australia is most effective at distributing aid in the Indo
Pacific region. Henceforth, focussing on the Indo Pacific region allows Australia to create the most
difference; she plays into the role of a good international citizen by taking care of her surrounding
neighbourhood, (DFAT 2015). Australia s international standing is seen to be at her highest when
Australia s influence over the region is at its strongest, (Bishop 2013). It is in Australia s best national
interest to retain a good international standing, maintaining a dominant role in the region through aid
affords her this privilege.

Recrystallization Of Cinnamic Acid Lab Report
Brominated hydrocinnamic acid underwent an elimination reaction (E2) to produce cinnamic acid.
The goal of the elimination experiment was to remove the bromine and a hydrogen from brominated
cinnamic acid, using the strong base KOH, to produce crude cinnamic acid. The reaction is shown in
Scheme 1.
The crude cinnamic acid was dissolved then recrystallized. The goal for recrystallizing crude cinnamic
acid was to purify the acid and filter out any impurities. Recrystallization is one method used to purify
a compound. Using a hot solvent, the compound is dissolved. It is then cooled to produce pure
crystals. As the crystal develops, impurities are excluded from the crystal lattice, thereby completing
the purification process. 1 The key to recrystallization is the solvent used. The solute must be
relatively insoluble in the solvent at room temperature but much more soluble in the solvent at a
higher temperature. At the same time, impurities that are present must either be soluble in the solvent
at room temperature or insoluble in the solvent at a high temperature. 2 The solvent must be able to
dissolve the product and the impurities for recrystallization to take place. Once dissolved, the solution
cools first to room temperature before placing it in an ice bath, for gradual cooling is conducive to the
formation of large, well defined crystals. 2 Once cooled, the solution is placed into the ice bath to
further the recrystallization of the compound. The crystals are then

opportunities for athletics, and a great sense of brotherhood. Unfortunately, since their beginning
fraternities have been questioned about their activities. Many people today think that they subject their

Fraternity issues like this one are very ugly and truly bring out the worst in everyone. I am completely
shocked that a lawyer would even take a case such as this one where a fraternity member is obviously
guilty. In another incident, university police have arrested three men on the charge of battery. Two of
the men alleged that they were hit on the buttocks 30 times with a 2 by 4, and another student said he

bad because it is part of a secret organization (Anderson). Pratt describes the situation as Underground
organizations feel more immune to regular laws and regulations and any kind of policing....They feel
they can violate peoples rights (Anderson). Pratt says many of the undergraduate pledges initially
would not speak about any of the incidences, because they were maintaining their code of secrecy

trying to find the truth. What the school and the investigators have to understand is that no fraternity
member wants to be responsible for the possible end of their organization. This act of treason

The Use Of Lichen And Its Effect On The Environment
Lichens are widely distributed in many different areas and can be found inhabited within harsh
habitats such as dry arid hot deserts and freezing mountain tops. Environmental factors such as
temperature, sun exposure levels, and the pH levels of soil influence the growth of Lichens. Their
natural structure and symbiotic relationship with fungus and a photosynthetic partner has given these
organisms the ability to survive such harsh and exposed environments. Their ability to absorb
substances and minerals dissolved in rain and dew has also enabled Lichen to live and survive in such
extreme areas, but this ability has had the effect of making them very sensitive to pollutants in the air;
and therefore cannot survive in polluted areas such as the city because of automobile traffic such as
cars, and industrial activity. Lichen can be found growing within soil, on the surface layer of rocks,
and most commonly, they are found growing on the bark of trees (Raven et al. 2010, p. 626 627).
The graph above shows that the south aspect of most of the trees in Campbelltown Campus had the
greatest surface area of lichen coverage on the tree trunk, compared to the other aspects (east, north

Theme Of The Tell Tale Heart And The Monkey Paw
The night waned, and I worked hastily, but in silence. First of all I dismembered the corpse. I cut off
the head and the arms and the legs. The common theme of death is obvious in the stories, The Tell
Tale Heart, and The Monkeys Paw, but this explains just a bit of the stories. The people involved are
dealing with death for very different reasons, which capture the reader s attention. The Tell Tale Heart
and Monkey Paw stories build suspense for the audience because the stories are based around murder
and death, which the feelings of fear, reasoning, insanity, sadness, guilt and coping are the effects.
A child s parents have made a dire mistake with wishes given to them that cause a tragedy and loss.
When two parents are given three wishes from a monkey paw, their first wish was to ask for money,
which they got what they wanted, but it cost them their only son. The mistake tore the mother apart,
So she wished her son back to life with a second wish, but when the son was at the front door the
father wished him to his grave. The death of the son is sad, but the truly suspenseful part is when the
son comes back to life with the horrific injuries all because of the wishes made with the monkey paw.
If he could only find it before the thing outside got in. A perfect fusillade of knocks reverberated
through the house, and he heard the scraping of a chair as his wife put it down in the passage against
the door. He heard the creaking of the bolt as it came slowly back,

Arnold Schwarzenenegger s Reminiscences Of The American Dream
American Dream
1. Outline
In text 2, by Arnold Schwarzenegger, we hear about his views on the American immigration system
and how immigrants should integrate themselves into the American society. Nobody should expect a
gift shop when entering America, but instead the generosity of opportunities presented to one.
Therefore, with enough hard work, one can always succeed in life. Immigrants should, however, not
be seen as second tier citizens. Apart from running for president, you are just as much American as the
next guy. Arnold Schwarzenegger has 3 steps to integrate oneself into the American society. First, you
have to gain fluency in English and learn the ways of the American culture, although, not by
abandoning one s own heritage. Secondly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They vary in both neutrality and positivity. As a foreigner, another opinion could, however, be
supplied. To start off, we should go all the way back to the start of the known America; The Wild
West. Back then, the American Dream meant a new chance and possibilities only limited by your
skills. There was no more nobility and discrimination, for the Europeans at least. So back then the
American Dream was a basic principle that nobody should decide what you could or could not be,
only your abilities to do so would have any influence upon that. You were given a plot of land and
could then build a house or mine for gold. Those principles have changed over the years, as some of
the Americans seem to have forgotten their own history. Why should those with the exact same
background as their own forefathers be given any less? Of cause, not all Americans have forgotten.
Some have retained their ancestral stance towards immigration; man is created equal. Nowadays, the
situation in America has changed and as such, there have also been changes in the American Dream.
How could there not? Instead of the relative equality, the wealth of the Americans is being held by an
increasingly small number of people. So is the American Dream dead? No, or at least I don t think so.
I don t even think it has gotten harder, there have just come new sets of difficulties in place of the old.

Andy Campbell s Tomato Soup Rhetorical Analysis
Andy Warhol created a silkscreen canvas in 1964 of a Campbell s condensed tomato soup can. He
uses the same fonts, colors, and sizes that have caught people s eyes when they shop. I, myself, have
never tried Campbell s tomato soup. Every time we have any type of tomato soup, my mom makes it
from diced tomatoes and adds her own ingredients. Campbell s tomato soup uses an original logo on
every can so when people see it they know what it is. Think of the McDonald s logo. Every time you
see a yellow M in a red background you think of McDonalds. Campbell s logo is a man sitting with,
from my perspective, food around him. You can also see at the bottom of most cans, what looks like
the New Orleans sign. It is like a fleer delit. To me, this is

Anne-Marie Slaughter
Everyday men and women go to work in a variety of jobs as different as those in them.
Yet it is brought to attention that there is a problem. Women don t feel as if they are treated fairly in
their work place. That even with the strides society has made in this country, we still are dwarfed by
the work needed to be truly fair and equal. Anne Marie Slaughter is a woman who has taught at
Princeton and worked in the U.S. State Department. She continues work on public policy for a
nonprofit. She states that women cannot have it all due to the way the work place is set up and favors
men. This outlook is masking a different problem by covering it with gender disparity and
assumptions about the value of men and women.
Slaughter came to the understanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
WHY NO ONE CAN HAVE IT ALL 5
In old age many of the dying reflect on their choices, choosing to take solace in their choices or regret
them. Slaughter quotes Bronnie Ware s book The Top Five Regrets of the
Dying, I wish I didn t work so hard (Ware, 2011, p.688). That was said by every man she nursed.
Giving insight into the old way jobs worked when men went to work and women for the majority
stayed home. It shows that men don t enjoy spending all of their time at work, missing out on their
loved ones. Men just as much as women want to be with their significant other and children. While
Slaughter lightly touches on the fact a work week overhaul would benefit everyone she doesn t stay
with that thought for long. Though I believe if her and other feminists like her did, change would
happen far faster. By creating a divide between men and women in the workplace and stating women
need the only change, it creates greater opposition. It is also a narrower view on gender itself. If
instead of saying men thrive in the current work place and women suffer without changes being made
creates hate for men and the thought that women are weaker somehow. Gender doesn t give some
boost to men or women in the workplace. A man

Music In The Romantic Era
Following the Pre Classical and Classical periods, a new, very distinctive style of music emerged. The
Romantic Era Lasted from the year 1820 up until the year 1900. The Romantic Era consisted of
composers taking a more unique and expressive style of music. Hector Berlioz, Fryderyck Chopin,
and Robert Schumann are considered to be the most influential composers of the Romantic Era.
Nationalism and Exoticism played a very big part of music expression during this period. Both, Art
song and German Lieder music styles were invented and told stories in a musical form. These three
composers helped shape this era through the use of the piano and the use of a more supernatural realm
style of music.
Hector Berlioz was born in the year 1803 in France. At the age of twenty two he left his career to
pursue his musical career. He went on to composing his first symphony at the age of twenty seven.
Hector was highly criticized in his homeland France for his music. It was very painful for hector to be
rejected from the musical community and deemed as a laughing stock. After receiving the negative
reviews of his music, he stated, I belong to a nation which has ceased to be interested in the nobler
manifestations of intelligence, and whose only deity is the golden calf. The Parisians have become a
barbarous people (Berlioz, 2016). He had to work very hard to be able to afford all of the costs for his
performances and was pretty much ignored throughout his musical career. He was later

The Little Ice Age
The statement regarding the Little Ice Age (LIA) and its relation to modern warming is incorrect at
multiple points and contains poor logical reasoning in arriving at its conclusions. The assertion that
the LIA resulted in cooling at all locations over the earth is incorrect. While scholarship indicates that
average temperature may have cooled on a global or hemispheric level during the LIA, this averaging
masks regional variances [Matthews and Briffa, 2005] LIA cooling was not uniform temporally or
spatially [e.g. Ogilvie and Jonsson, 2001; Kreutz et al. 1997; Hunt, 2006]. Temporally, climate was not
continuously cooler; multiple studies of the LIA, most notably Briffa s [2000] dendrochronology
dataset, indicate that the LIA was composed of both cold and warm periods, with several anomalously
warm years [e.g. Jones and Briffa, 2001; Bradley and Jones, 1993; Oglivie and Jonsson, 2001;
Matthews and Briffa, 2005]. Similarly, considerable spatial variation exists; multiple studies have
observed that at a time when one region in a hemisphere was cooling, the temperature trend in another
region was likely moving in the opposite direction [Matthews and Briffa, 2005; Hunt, 2006; Bradley
and Jones, 1993]. One notable contention to the uniform cooling claim is Tasmania, where no net
cooling occurred during LIA [Bradley and Jones, 1993]. Contradicting evidence aside, it is impossible
to support the claim for a ubiquitous global cooling during LIA, as proxy record availability and

Safety Case Study
A business may have to sometimes alienate some customers for the betterment of their workers and
business in general. There is controversy on the fact that delivery services like Domino s and little
Caesars do not deliver in locations that are deemed dangerous and have a color system designated for
certain neighborhoods. The American Civil Liberties Union criticizes this practice as discriminatory as
some of these neighborhoods are predominantly minority neighborhoods and believe it is a racial
issue. I believe that the issue is safety as some neighborhoods are more dangerous and create a risk
towards the delivery workers. As a customer of these neighborhoods it can be frustrating not being
able to get pizza, but if a business had to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand there is also the possibility of losing money by not delivering in certain locations,
and there is the moral risk of putting workers life at risk for continuing business. In a situation such as
this it will be hard to please both sides, as both a customers and workers concern needs to be taken
into account. As a business manager the main moral concern should be the workers that it has
employed and their safety even if sales are lost. For the long run of the company you needs to find a
balance, workers to feel safe, and customers to feel accommodated by the business. As a business
manager concern of the customer needs to be taken higher into account. Having customers feel that
they are being prejudiced against will be bad for public perception. The company can also re asses the
location to their franchise in the future to prevent the current situation. When it comes to marketing
programs the best recommend action for the company to address is not to address the situation.
Identifying the issue via marketing programs would bring more scrutiny to the company. Plenty of
other organizations are trouble by the same situation and at no time it addressed the issue to the public
view. Evaluation of the situation is needed to identify if it is a regional issue only. If pressure from the
government agencies begins to mount the next option is to address the issue via public service

  • 2. Honor in Much Ado About Nothing Essay Throughout the history of the world, honor has been an important part of life. In literature, as well, honor plays an important role in many plots and the development of almost any character. Shakespeare s play Much Ado About Nothing is no exception. In this comedy about love and marriage, honor is revealed as the primary reason for many of the actions taken by several different characters. When Claudio breaks off his wedding with Hero, he does it because he believes she is not chastised as she claims to be and in being such, she would dishonor him as well as her father if the marriage were to proceed as planned. The play is an accurate depiction of the honor code and the different standards for men and women of the time in regards to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her honor is disgraced for her actions and Claudio will no longer accept her as his wife because of the dishonor she has caused him. Shakespeare uses both Claudio and Leonato to represent the males of the time and the honor code they were held to. Claudio is in no way held to the same pre marital expectations as Hero, which, at the time, was the case for all men. For instance, when Hero is accused of being with a man prior to her marriage, no one questions what man and, quite frankly, no one cares what man. Shakespeare also shows how men are judged and given honor based on how their women act. When Leonato learns of the accusations his daughter receives on her wedding day he scolds her and says, Wherefore? Why doth not every living thing Cry shame upon he? Could she here deny The story that is printed in her blood? Do not live, Hero; do not open thine eyes... Why had I not with charitable hand Took up a beggar s issue at my gates, Who smirched thus and mired with infamy, I might have said, no part of it is mine; This shame derives itself from unknown lions ? (IV, i) This quote shows how a father at that time would wish to have no part of his daughter for committing such acts because he knows of the dishonorable reputation he will receive as a result. In the time of Shakespeare, men and women were held to different standards and honored and dishonored for different reasons. Chastity is one of those reasons. For a ... • 3. Sleep Apnea Effects Humans need sleep. Sleep is essential to a myriad of proper bodily functions. It effects memory, focus, mobility, and general brain function. If excessively deprived from sleep, individuals will certainly experience adverse health effects, imminent death being one of them (Worthman, 2008). Although many experts disagree on the details of what comprises good sleep (hours, environment, noise level, body position etc.) the necessity of sleep is widely accepted (Worthman, 2008). Despite the critical importance of sleep to general health, there remains a large population afflicted by traits that inhibit them from sleeping, or sleeping well. Again, due to the important role of sleep, one would anticipate a decrease in sleep disorders over the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The frequency at which it appears varies from region to region and country to country (Punjabi, 2008). There is also variability within the trait itself, as some individuals experience it while others do not. Additionally, OSA has a hereditable basis as genetic factors like craniofacial structure and average body weight are passed on to offspring. Apart from cultural activities (smoking and alcohol intake) these two genetic components are fundamental when discussing the presence of (or risk factors for) OSA (Nunn et al., 2016). Finally, there also exists a correlation between sleep apnea and reproductive success. At first glance, the deleterious effects of sleep apnea on the human body could lead one to believe that the disorder has no relevance to reproductive success. Terrence Davidson, however, argues that the adverse human susceptibility to OSA is a tradeoff for an adaptation that gave early Homo sapiens great advantage to survive and reproduce. That tradeoff was the anatomical structure for language. The natural selection pressure for speech and language was so strong that the undesired consequence of OSA was carried forward to modern man (Davidson, 2003) Therefore, according to Davidson, Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a product of natural selection, because the same structure that makes individuals vulnerable to OSA was selected for in the first ancestors to produce ... • 4. Formative Assessment Essay According to Black (1999), formative assessment is the short term collection and use of evidence to guide learning. Boud (1995) states that, formative assessment is crucial because it is all about improving and feedback. Formative assessment has been described as the journey, not the outcome (Wisdom, 2006). Formative assessment is also known as assessment for learning. The major purpose of formative assessment is developmental, to help students monitor their own understanding and progress. Its nature is diagnostic, identifying weaknesses allowing students to spend time and effort on improvement (Petty, 2004). It must offer feedback that can help students adjust their performance, whether it comes from lecturers, other students or self evaluation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Knight Mantz (2003), allow students to establish their own claims to achievement, using what they see as the best evidence to hand. by using portfolios, teachers are able to provide timely feedback but delay final evaluation of the students work until the students have had time to reflect on their own work and make revisions. Portfolios can give students responsibility and choice. They make students more responsible for preparing an excellent end product, and they often allow them the freedom to choose which pieces of work should be included in their portfolio and evaluated. Supporters of portfolios claim that they can lessen the impact of grading by encouraging discovery and experimentation. They allow students to take risks and revise their work, which makes their performance much more authentic (Banta, 2003). Authentic assessment is based on meaningful performances that are executed in real life situations (Erickson, 2001). With authentic assessments, students demonstrate competency through teacher directed activities that simulate real life contexts (Baron Boschee, 1995). Supporters of authentic assessments claim that through administering such assessments, teachers can observe how students use knowledge to accomplish goals instead of simply regurgitating it (Prouty, 2006; Shepard, ... • 5. Gothic Literature Art has no influence upon action. It annihilates the desire to act. It is superbly sterile. The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame. The similarities and differences between Doctor Faustus, a play by Christopher Marlowe, and The Picture of Dorian Gray, a novel by Oscar Wilde, are pronounced and characterized by their underlying gothic theme. These can be seen all throughout both forms of literature, including in both character s demise through plot progression and internal struggles. One way in which both Faustus and Dorian are alike is that they both sold their soul in a way. Faustus was able to get Mephistophilis, a demon, to do for him, and bring him whatsoever (1141 Doctor Faustus). Dorian was able to make portrait s appearance change, instead of his own. As his soul would get more and more ugly and twisted, it would get represented by his portrait. In this sense, both faustus and Dorian gave their true soul in return for something else. For Faustus, he sold it for power. He felt like he knew everything and he just needed more power. He sold his soul to the devil for that. Dorion on the other hand, sold his soul simply for means appearance. How he looked was so important to him, he decided he had to keep his pretty perfect boy look. He felt as if this ... • 7. Analyzing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr s Open Letter In 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was arrested during a peaceful protest march in Birmingham, Alabama. While he was incarcerated he wrote an open letter, using the salutation My Dear Fellow Clergymen, explaining his beliefs and his mission. It is a powerful and moving essay that clarifies Dr. King s position. Even more, it was a call to action for all good people to join the cause of the civil rights movement. Dr. King s explicit audience for the letter were the clergymen who were critical of the demonstrations and even questioned Dr. King s right to be in Birmingham in the first place. Dr. King explained, to begin with, that his position as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) brought him to Birmingham, as he had been invited by an affiliate organization. Dr. King further made the case that no invitation was really necessary. As he stated, I am in Birmingham because injustice is here...Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. The injustices in Birmingham, he argued, affected every citizen of the United States. No one could be an outsider in one s own country or become involved in a cause that was not his as determined by geographic demarcation. The cause of freedom was the right and the responsibility of every American. It was to this much larger audience that Dr. King wrote. Throughout his working life he was based in Russia from 1906 1910, then he moved to France for four more years before moving back to Russia and Soviet Belarus for eight years. This is because of the circle in the middle of the artwork joining the man, the goat and the background. This artwork is a surreal representation of the town of Vitebsk where Chagall grew up. Chagall is trying to comment of the relationship of people with the land, which is demonstrated by the man looking at the goat as an equal and also by the woman milking a goat. As there are in many of Chagall s works, there is a spiritual reference in this artwork. The goat and the Star of David are the symbolic references. The goat is a great symbol of sacrifice for the Jewish religion. The colours in the artwork are reminiscent of the circus or other flamboyant events. The man could represent the ringmaster. This could all show the way in which man lives in harmony with animals and the environment. The large circle in the middle of the page could symbolise the sun and the all the chaos surrounding it could show that the earth and everything on it is dependent on the sun for life. The bright colours could also symbolise the fake world, opposed to that of the world when Chagall grew up. This incident marked the 307th mass shooting in 2017 and it was the largest mass shooting in Texas. The mass murderer of this event was Devin Patrick Kelley, who was 26 years old. Kelley began shooting at the church early Sunday morning. On Sunday, the church was having its morning service at 11 a.m. and the shooting began shortly after. Kelley was armed with two weapons, a rifle and a handgun. One of the weapons Kelley was armed with was a Ruger military style rifle (Montgomery, Mele, Fernandez, 2017). Immediately following the shooting, an armed bystander shot Kelley and wounded him. Kelley dropped his Ruger AR rifle, and was able to get in his car. Kelley was able to flee in his vehicle, but was later found dead after running his car off of the road. Later, an autopsy showed Kelley had three gunshot wounds. • 12. The Problem Of Environmental Protection Essay Theodore Roosevelt had once said, The nation behaves well if it treats the natural resources as assets which it must turn over to the next generation increased, and not impaired in value . These words have resonated since and have been an example as to why it is our duty as inhabitants of this planet to provide protection to the ever so fragile environment. But what is Environmental protection exactly? Well it is one of the most important, and expensive problems businesses and society are facing today. Why you may ask? Since the industrial age all the countries around the world have been burning an assortment of fuel to power factories, vehicles, heat homes, and even to cook with and when these fuels are burned they emit carbon dioxide and various other chemicals which over time add up and take a very long time to breakdown. As a result they trap heat from the sun in the earth s atmosphere raising the global temperature and causing a domino effect on the environment. Likewise companies produce hazardous waste and dump them illegally in waters which kills vast amounts of marine life. Although laws are in place to protect the planet, inventions are slowly being created to provide alternative sources of energy and agencies already exist to protect the environment. However it is our duty as people in a society to act on our own by demanding for our government to show greater concern for the environment by reforming environmental protection laws with stricter guide lines, ... According to Einhard, he had great friendships all around the world and always welcomed foreigners in his kingdom and palace for only one simple thing in return. For he felt that he would be rewarded for his troubles if they [foreigners] praised his generosity and gave him a good reputation (Einhard 2004, 212). He was a great king who wanted to go down in history. As per Einhard, that seems to be Charlemagne s only selfish trait. He apparently only wore the national dress of the Frankish with few exceptions, which can only imply his great patriotism. Although he appreciated foreign customs, he seems to be very patriotic towards the Franks. Overall, Charlemagne embodied traits that came together to form this great Emperor who was admired by many. • 14. Broken Spears Summary The book, Broken Spears was an interesting reading that talked about the Spanish conquest of Tenochtitlan. Throughout the book, it becomes clear that the Spanish were successful in their conquest as a result of a number of factors. The Spanish were intimidating in appearance and in their weaponry. They had animals that the Aztecs had never seen before. They also formed alliances with rival tribes, like the Tlaxcaltecas tribe. Finally, one of the key reasons that the Spaniards were able to successfully conquer the Aztecs was due to the fact that Motecuhzoma himself, believed that Cortes and his men were gods. In regards appearance, the Spanish were essentially covered from head to toe in iron armor. Even the weapons they carried were covered in iron. The Aztecs were unaccustomed to the iron clad individuals. In regards to weaponry, the Spanish were, even more, intimidating in the fact that they had cannons. The Aztecs describe the cannon to Motecuhzoma, a thing like a ball of stone comes out of its entrails: it comes shooting sparks and raining fire...smoke that comes out of it has a pestilent odor. The odor penetrates even the brain and causes great discomfort ( 30). For me personally, the only reason I can think of for Cortes to fire off a cannon was to show dominance over the Indians. Citrine can be found all over the world, however, notable sources include Argentina, Bolivia, France, Madagascar, Burma, Namibia, Russia, Scotland, Spain, Uruguay, Zambia and Brazil which is the world s leading supplier. Magickally yellow is generally associated with happiness or sunshine, this may have lead to the stone being associated with positive energy. Citrine has been associated with prosperity and abundance, being used in cash registers for good fortune, this is seen in Chinese legends and myths where it is known as the stone of success and believed to increase intellect, thus explaining it s use today by scholars, teachers and students. Kingston describes, Once my aunt found a freckle on her chin... She dug it out with a hot needle and washed the wound with peroxide (Kingston 328). This leads Kingston to believe that the aunt had an affair. However, Kingston later believes that her aunt was possibly raped. • 19. Stereotype Threat And Self Handicapping For the past century, stereotype threat and self handicapping have been of extreme interest to social psychologists. The reasoning behind why people react in certain ways due to the circumstances they are in is a huge discussion topic that interests the field in big way. Stereotype threat occurs when an individual is at risk of confirming a negative stereotype about them or about one s group (Steele Aronson, 1995). Previous research has shown that being the victim of a stereotype threat can actually alter one s performance (Spencer,Steele, Quinn, 1998). Studies have shown an effect of stereotype on performance in relation to many different domains. One particular experiment done by Spencer, Steele Quinn (1998) wanted to observe if the stereotype that women have weaker math ability compared to men would hinder math performance. The results showed that being explicitly primed of this stereotype prior to taking a difficult math test led to an impairment in math performance within women compared to men. This suggests that being the victim to a negative stereotype can indeed affect one s performance. The previously stated evidence shows that negative stereotypes might have a much bigger impact on individuals than we may think. Previous research has furthered this notion and shown that self handicapping is often used in order to cope with being the victim of a stereotype threat (Stone, 2002). Self handicapping is defined as the opportunity to excuse failure and internalize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Art is a great tool to thoroughly explore and understand the story of humanity. Specifically, the oldest artifact was found in Africa, where humanity initiated. This artifact was dated to 30,000 BC, when humans struggled to survive in harsh nature, yet a sense of creativity was still kindled in them. Since then, art has become a timeless story teller of human civilizations, including the Egyptian, Greek and Roman. Australia is the largest (in terms of population and military strength) and most economically developed state in Oceania, this awards her with certain privileges and if she were to stop giving aid within the region those privileges could be revoked, (Schwebel 2009). These privileges include being a member of the G20, and if Australia were to stop giving aid many countries would cease to see her as a good international citizen, which could have dire effects for Australia, (Beeson 2015). Aid also allows Australia to maintain her dominance as a regional power. It continues to solidify regional partnerships in the face of increasing interest in the region from emerging donors such as China, (Lowy Institute 2015). Australia must thus continue giving aid within the Indo Pacific region lest her place as a regional power be overtaken by an emerging donor, (Hayward Jones 2013). Eagerness and being resolve are feelings I remember stepping into unfamiliar grounds, or I should say the open road as a runner and the operating room (mock at the beginning) as a surgical technology student. The long stretch of open road and the hills that you must run, mile after mile to build stamina and the long lectures and instructions both in the classroom and in your clinical site, that you must pay attention to gain proficiency seems to be daunting at first. • 36. Recrystallization Of Cinnamic Acid Lab Report Brominated hydrocinnamic acid underwent an elimination reaction (E2) to produce cinnamic acid. The goal of the elimination experiment was to remove the bromine and a hydrogen from brominated cinnamic acid, using the strong base KOH, to produce crude cinnamic acid. The reaction is shown in Scheme 1. The crude cinnamic acid was dissolved then recrystallized. The goal for recrystallizing crude cinnamic acid was to purify the acid and filter out any impurities. Recrystallization is one method used to purify a compound. Using a hot solvent, the compound is dissolved. It is then cooled to produce pure crystals. As the crystal develops, impurities are excluded from the crystal lattice, thereby completing the purification process. 1 The key to recrystallization is the solvent used. The solute must be relatively insoluble in the solvent at room temperature but much more soluble in the solvent at a higher temperature. At the same time, impurities that are present must either be soluble in the solvent at room temperature or insoluble in the solvent at a high temperature. 2 The solvent must be able to dissolve the product and the impurities for recrystallization to take place. Once dissolved, the solution cools first to room temperature before placing it in an ice bath, for gradual cooling is conducive to the formation of large, well defined crystals. 2 Once cooled, the solution is placed into the ice bath to further the recrystallization of the compound. The crystals are then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Fraternities and Why They are Misunderstood Essay Fraternities and Why They are Misunderstood Fraternities have been a major part of student life at universities all over the world since the beginning of the 20th century. For many students they have offered an improvement in social life, more friends, opportunities for athletics, and a great sense of brotherhood. Unfortunately, since their beginning fraternities have been questioned about their activities. Many people today think that they subject their members to harmful acts better known as hazing. Massachusetts General law defines hazing as: [A]ny conduct or method of initiation into any student organization, whether on public or private property, which willfully or recklessly endangers the physical or mental health of any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fraternity issues like this one are very ugly and truly bring out the worst in everyone. I am completely shocked that a lawyer would even take a case such as this one where a fraternity member is obviously guilty. In another incident, university police have arrested three men on the charge of battery. Two of the men alleged that they were hit on the buttocks 30 times with a 2 by 4, and another student said he was hit approximately 10 times. The incident has raised numerous questions about the Omega Psi Phi fraternity, according to campus officials. The event became public knowledge when Edward Pratt, the dean of students spoke on the topic. Pratt summed the course of events as This incident is particularly bad because it is part of a secret organization (Anderson). Pratt describes the situation as Underground organizations feel more immune to regular laws and regulations and any kind of policing....They feel they can violate peoples rights (Anderson). Pratt says many of the undergraduate pledges initially would not speak about any of the incidences, because they were maintaining their code of secrecy (Anderson). This code of honor is one of the main obstacles that investigators have to overcome when trying to find the truth. What the school and the investigators have to understand is that no fraternity member wants to be responsible for the possible end of their organization. This act of treason ... • 38. The Use Of Lichen And Its Effect On The Environment Lichens are widely distributed in many different areas and can be found inhabited within harsh habitats such as dry arid hot deserts and freezing mountain tops. Environmental factors such as temperature, sun exposure levels, and the pH levels of soil influence the growth of Lichens. Their natural structure and symbiotic relationship with fungus and a photosynthetic partner has given these organisms the ability to survive such harsh and exposed environments. Their ability to absorb substances and minerals dissolved in rain and dew has also enabled Lichen to live and survive in such extreme areas, but this ability has had the effect of making them very sensitive to pollutants in the air; and therefore cannot survive in polluted areas such as the city because of automobile traffic such as cars, and industrial activity. Lichen can be found growing within soil, on the surface layer of rocks, and most commonly, they are found growing on the bark of trees (Raven et al. 2010, p. 626 627). The graph above shows that the south aspect of most of the trees in Campbelltown Campus had the greatest surface area of lichen coverage on the tree trunk, compared to the other aspects (east, north and west). The east aspect had the second highest average cell count of lichen coverage. The north and west aspects had a similar cell count which varied by a small amount, with the north aspect having the lowest amount of lichen coverage, and the west being the second lowest. • 39. Theme Of The Tell Tale Heart And The Monkey Paw The night waned, and I worked hastily, but in silence. First of all I dismembered the corpse. I cut off the head and the arms and the legs. The common theme of death is obvious in the stories, The Tell Tale Heart, and The Monkeys Paw, but this explains just a bit of the stories. The people involved are dealing with death for very different reasons, which capture the reader s attention. The Tell Tale Heart and Monkey Paw stories build suspense for the audience because the stories are based around murder and death, which the feelings of fear, reasoning, insanity, sadness, guilt and coping are the effects. A child s parents have made a dire mistake with wishes given to them that cause a tragedy and loss. When two parents are given three wishes from a monkey paw, their first wish was to ask for money, which they got what they wanted, but it cost them their only son. The mistake tore the mother apart, So she wished her son back to life with a second wish, but when the son was at the front door the father wished him to his grave. The death of the son is sad, but the truly suspenseful part is when the son comes back to life with the horrific injuries all because of the wishes made with the monkey paw. If he could only find it before the thing outside got in. Nobody should expect a gift shop when entering America, but instead the generosity of opportunities presented to one. Therefore, with enough hard work, one can always succeed in life. Immigrants should, however, not be seen as second tier citizens. Apart from running for president, you are just as much American as the next guy. Back then, the American Dream meant a new chance and possibilities only limited by your skills. There was no more nobility and discrimination, for the Europeans at least. So back then the American Dream was a basic principle that nobody should decide what you could or could not be, only your abilities to do so would have any influence upon that. You were given a plot of land and could then build a house or mine for gold. Those principles have changed over the years, as some of the Americans seem to have forgotten their own history. Why should those with the exact same background as their own forefathers be given any less? Of cause, not all Americans have forgotten. Some have retained their ancestral stance towards immigration; man is created equal. Nowadays, the situation in America has changed and as such, there have also been changes in the American Dream. How could there not? Instead of the relative equality, the wealth of the Americans is being held by an increasingly small number of people. So is the American Dream dead? • 42. Anne-Marie Slaughter Everyday men and women go to work in a variety of jobs as different as those in them. Yet it is brought to attention that there is a problem. Women don t feel as if they are treated fairly in their work place. That even with the strides society has made in this country, we still are dwarfed by the work needed to be truly fair and equal. Anne Marie Slaughter is a woman who has taught at Princeton and worked in the U.S. State Department. She continues work on public policy for a nonprofit. She states that women cannot have it all due to the way the work place is set up and favors men. This outlook is masking a different problem by covering it with gender disparity and assumptions about the value of men and women. Slaughter came to the understanding ... Slaughter quotes Bronnie Ware s book The Top Five Regrets of the Dying, I wish I didn t work so hard (Ware, 2011, p.688). That was said by every man she nursed. Giving insight into the old way jobs worked when men went to work and women for the majority stayed home. It shows that men don t enjoy spending all of their time at work, missing out on their loved ones. Men just as much as women want to be with their significant other and children. While Slaughter lightly touches on the fact a work week overhaul would benefit everyone she doesn t stay with that thought for long. Though I believe if her and other feminists like her did, change would happen far faster. By creating a divide between men and women in the workplace and stating women need the only change, it creates greater opposition. It is also a narrower view on gender itself. If instead of saying men thrive in the current work place and women suffer without changes being made creates hate for men and the thought that women are weaker somehow. Gender doesn t give some boost to men or women in the workplace. A man ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Music In The Romantic Era Following the Pre Classical and Classical periods, a new, very distinctive style of music emerged. The Romantic Era Lasted from the year 1820 up until the year 1900. The Romantic Era consisted of composers taking a more unique and expressive style of music. Hector Berlioz, Fryderyck Chopin, and Robert Schumann are considered to be the most influential composers of the Romantic Era. Nationalism and Exoticism played a very big part of music expression during this period. Both, Art song and German Lieder music styles were invented and told stories in a musical form. These three composers helped shape this era through the use of the piano and the use of a more supernatural realm style of music. Hector Berlioz was born in the year 1803 in France. At the age of twenty two he left his career to pursue his musical career. He went on to composing his first symphony at the age of twenty seven. Hector was highly criticized in his homeland France for his music. It was very painful for hector to be rejected from the musical community and deemed as a laughing stock. After receiving the negative reviews of his music, he stated, I belong to a nation which has ceased to be interested in the nobler manifestations of intelligence, and whose only deity is the golden calf. The Parisians have become a barbarous people (Berlioz, 2016). • 46. The Little Ice Age The statement regarding the Little Ice Age (LIA) and its relation to modern warming is incorrect at multiple points and contains poor logical reasoning in arriving at its conclusions. The assertion that the LIA resulted in cooling at all locations over the earth is incorrect. While scholarship indicates that average temperature may have cooled on a global or hemispheric level during the LIA, this averaging masks regional variances [Matthews and Briffa, 2005] LIA cooling was not uniform temporally or spatially [e.g. Ogilvie and Jonsson, 2001; Kreutz et al. 1997; Hunt, 2006]. Temporally, climate was not continuously cooler; multiple studies of the LIA, most notably Briffa s [2000] dendrochronology dataset, indicate that the LIA was composed of both cold and warm periods, with several anomalously warm years [e.g. Jones and Briffa, 2001; Bradley and Jones, 1993; Oglivie and Jonsson, 2001; Matthews and Briffa, 2005]. Similarly, considerable spatial variation exists; multiple studies have observed that at a time when one region in a hemisphere was cooling, the temperature trend in another region was likely moving in the opposite direction [Matthews and Briffa, 2005; Hunt, 2006; Bradley and Jones, 1993]. One notable contention to the uniform cooling claim is Tasmania, where no net cooling occurred during LIA [Bradley and Jones, 1993]. Contradicting evidence aside, it is impossible to support the claim for a ubiquitous global cooling during LIA, as proxy record availability and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is controversy on the fact that delivery services like Domino s and little Caesars do not deliver in locations that are deemed dangerous and have a color system designated for certain neighborhoods. The American Civil Liberties Union criticizes this practice as discriminatory as some of these neighborhoods are predominantly minority neighborhoods and believe it is a racial issue. On the other hand there is also the possibility of losing money by not delivering in certain locations, and there is the moral risk of putting workers life at risk for continuing business. In a situation such as this it will be hard to please both sides, as both a customers and workers concern needs to be taken into account. As a business manager the main moral concern should be the workers that it has employed and their safety even if sales are lost. For the long run of the company you needs to find a balance, workers to feel safe, and customers to feel accommodated by the business. As a business manager concern of the customer needs to be taken higher into account. Having customers feel that they are being prejudiced against will be bad for public perception. The company can also re asses the location to their franchise in the future to prevent the current situation.
