This document describes the various muscle groups of the hand. It outlines five main groups: thenar muscles at the base of the thumb including the abductor pollicis brevis and flexor pollicis brevis; hypothenar muscles including the opponens digiti minimi and abductor digiti minimi at the base of the little finger; lumbrical muscles that connect the flexor tendons to the extensor hoods of the fingers; interossei muscles including the dorsal interossei that abduct the fingers and palmar interossei with the same origin and insertion; and other minor muscles like the palmaris brevis that wrinkles the skin of the hand.
