MULTIGRADE
Multigrade
Multigrade teaching involves the
teaching of children from two or more
grade levels in one classroom.
It is generally opened in primary schools
located in distant and sparsely populated
area.
Multigrade
“Combination class”
The well-trained and locally-oriented
teacher is a key resource person in the
multigrade context.
Multigrade
Reasons:
Limited enrolment
Distance of the barangay from school
Teacher shortage
Lack of funds for school buildings and
other facilities
Multigrade
Advantages:
Efficient means of providing basic
education in thinly populated areas
Efficient means of utilizing scarce
educational inputs – trained teachers,
classrooms and materials
Builds village identity and cultural life
Multigrade
Advantages:
‘learn to learn’ and ‘learn to teach’
Multigrade schools are located closer to
home of the students
Multigrade
Disadvantages:
Student’s achievement may fail if the
programmes are not supported by the
required resources and teachers are not
well trained.
Demands on teachers’ time and
organizational capabilities are high
Multigrade
Disadvantages:
Students may receive less individual
attention and must often work
independently
LADDERIZED
Ladderized
It allows learners to progress between
Technical Vocational Education and
Training (TVET) and College, and vice-
versa.
It opens opportunities for career and
educational advancement to students and
workers.
Ladderized
Advantages:
It is the answer for the wasteful
duplication
Opportunities for career and educational
advancement
Job-readiness
