The Election of 1912 Essay
The Election of 1912
During the Progressive Era, Americans faced the challenge of choosing between four strong
candidates of the election of 1912. Each candidate held concrete platforms that would have different
effects on progressivism. Americans could chose the conservative presidential incumbent William
Howard Taft(R), the New Jersey governor Woodrow Wilson(D), the long time fighter for social
reform Eugene V. Debs (S), or the former president Theodore Rooseveltof the newly formed Bull
Moose Party (Progressive Party). Through this election many steps were taken to change the face of
the election ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the August before the election, the most successful third party in the 20th century was formed.
After Theodore Roosevelt was denied the Republican nomination, he was elected in the newly
formed Progressive Party. Theodore was the man for the job saying, In loyalty, honor and duty
there was nothing for me to do but to heed their call and make the race with all my might,
regardless of present or future consequences to myself . (Miller 527) With this spirit, this third
party had accomplished the unthinkable by becoming in second in the presidential election of
1912. This was the only time in American history that the Republican Party has come in third in
both the popular and electoral vote. Sidney M. Milkis stated, Ostensibly, the cause of
ProgressivismВ—the platform s commitment to direct democracy and social and industrial
justiceВ—gave reform leadership its dignity, indeed its heroic quality. (Claremont Institute) The
Progressive Party s accomplishment proved that third parties can have influence on an election and

Cardozo Law School Personal Statement
Recently, I participated in a campus tour that was led by Ms. Keli Huang. The visit provided me

The Odyssey Conniving Calypso
Conniving Calypso
I had lived on my luxurious island for many years. My island is filled with life and colorful
blossoms. With all the plants and beauty, the only people on my island are young women.
Everyday, my beautiful, young maids and I awaited the arrival of a man or woman lost at sea. For
years we waited, no person ever washing upon our shore. All we longed was a new friend, or man
to get lost at sea and wash up on our island for us to care for and love.
When a stranger showed up on my island after swimming in the ocean, I kindly took him in. No
one ever visits my wondrous island, and no one ever leaves my island. He told me of how his men
killed Helios forbidden cattle and Zeus destroyed his ship as a punishment for this forbidden act.
He told me that he had been swimming for days, his ship destroyed and all his loyal men killed. I
began to care for him as a mother cares for their child, bathing them in a warm tub of water,
feeding them warm soup made in the kitchen and putting them to sleep in a warm, comforting bed,
as soft as a pillow that swallows them when they sleep. I gave him everything he ... Show more

raft and I watch in horror as he is whisked into the sea. I stare in awe as a sea nymph saves the
great Odysseus with a powerful veil and he washes ashore only to be saved by another women.
A beautiful, women from the palace. I see this other women, and in fury I leave because I know
he no longer will remember our great times on my island, but he will now create new memories as

Chip Card Adoption Essay
Brief history of EMV adoption
(EMVCo, LLC, 2014) Chip cards were originally invented in 1977. The first mass deployment of
chip cards for payment by the banking industry was in France in 1984, driven by a need to
reduce high levels of fraud due to counterfeit and lost/stolen magnetic stripe cards. By 1994 all
French banks carried chip cards, deployed using the French specification called B0 , and were
able to significantly reduce fraud. Based on this success, there was a spread of chip card adoption
throughout various markets in Europe in 1990s. Each of them had specifications tailored to their
local market. The inter operability issues created a need for a global standard. Europay,
Mastercard and Visa joined together in 1994 to form EMV, in order to create a global standard and
had their first field trial in 1997. With 1.62 billion EMV compliant payments cards in use
worldwide, EMV has certainly transformed the payments landscape.
Stakeholders
EMV evolved from its initial three members, into a consortium called EMVco formed in 1999,
consisting of Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, China UnionPay, and Discover. It functions
as the standards body for EMV specifications and to ensure its global interoperability.
Along with EMVco, there are various stakeholders who are crucial to the successful adoption of
EMV. They are namely the merchants (acceptors), acquirers/processors, issuers/banks, payment
system integrators and value added resellers (VAR). While deployments

How Hadoop Is An Apache Open Source Software ( Java...
Hadoop is an Apache open source software (java framework). It runs on cluster of commodity
machines and provides both distributed storage and distributed processing of huge data sets. It is
capable of processing data sizes ranging from Gigabytes to Petabytes.
Architecture :
Similar to master / slave architecture.
The master is the Namenode and the Slaves are the data nodes. The Namenode maintains and
manages blocks of datanodes. They are responsible for dealing with clients requests of data. Hadoop
splits the files into one or more blocks and these blocks are stored on datanodes. Each datanode is
replicated to provide fault tolerance characteristic of Hadoop. Default replicator factor is 3 which
can be configured.
Components:
1.Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS): It is designed to run on hardware which are less
expensive and the data is stored in it distributed. It is highly fault tolerance and provides high
throughput access to the applications that require big data.
2.Namenode: It manages the system namespace. It stores the metadata of data blocks. The
metadata is stored in the form of namespace image and edit logs on a local machine. The
namenode knows the location of each datablock on the data node.
3.Secondary Namenode: It is responsible for merging the namespace image and edit log to create
check points. This would help namenode to free up memory taken up by edits logs from the start to
the latest check point.
4.DataNode: Stores blocks of data and

The Russian Invasion of the Ukraine The conflict and subsequent invasion of the Ukraine by Russia
came as a surprise to many people in the world, including to the United States intelligence
community. This surprise move by the Russian government caused many members of Congress to
point the blame at the intelligence community for failing to accurately predict this move, thus

By January 2014, the protests became violent as confrontations between police and demonstrators
intensified. Within a week of these deaths, the Ukrainian prime minister resigns from his office and
the parliament repeals harsh anti protest laws. Violence in the country continued to escalate and on
February 28, 2014, the clashes leave 26 dead and hundreds injured. Amidst the escalating violence,
the then Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovychfled the country after a political coup leaving
Oleksandr Turchynov as acting president and commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (BBC

While chaos continued to spread across the country, Russia began to eye the territory of Crimea,
one if Ukraine s most southwestern territories and an area that used to belong to Russia until it
was transferred to Ukraine in 1954. By the end of February, masked Russian troops without
insignias took over the Supreme Council of Crimea and several strategic sites across Crimea. This
event led to the installation of the pro Russian Aksyonov government in Crimea and the declaration
of Crimea s independence. This spurred the Ukraine s provisional government to request an
emergency meeting with the U.N. Security Council in which they called on Russia to stop all
military action in Crimea. By Mach 1st, Russia s parliament approves President Putin s request to

Reflections On Barron And Kenny
Reflections on Barron Kenny s 1986 article The Moderator Mediator Variable Distinction in Social
Psychological Research: Conceptual, Strategic, and Statistical Considerations
The relationships between independent and dependent variables can be very complex. Moderation
and mediation is one way to make sense of this complexity, but add a level of complexity of their
own. Due to this complexity, psychological researchers can be unclear on the differences of the
terms and use them in an inaccurate and misleading fashion, indicating that a moderation is a
mediation and a mediation is a moderation. The authors make the differences clear through
explaining that a moderator allows for changing direction or strength of relationship, while ... Show

A hypothesis might read that the relationship between self kindness and depression is accounted
for in part by self kindness leading to more resilience which leads to less depression. This
mediation is different than than a recent moderation effect in another study where level of
perceived social support acts as a moderator on the relationship between a participant s level of
perceived stress on the previous day and their pain level on the following day. If a participant
has more social support, the relationship between their previous day level of perceived stress and
current day pain level is reduced compared to if they have less perceived social support. This
seems to be obviously a moderator rather than a mediator because level of perceived social
support is changing the slope of the regression line. The relationship between the independent or
predictor variable and the dependent or outcome variable is stronger or weaker depending on the
level of the mediator. It is also possible for the relationship to change direction depending on the
mediator. This seems to further separate moderator from mediator as level of a mediator would not
change the relationship between the predictor and

Cell Anemi The Common Genetic Disorder Essay
SICKEL CELL ANEMIA
Sickle Cell Anemia or (SCD) is the most common genetic disorder across the entire world it is an
inherited genetic condition giving to you by both your mother and father that affects your
hemoglobin. There is a mutation in the gene that tells your body to make hemoglobin (a red iron
rich compound that gives blood its red color). There are over 600 million hemoglobin molecules in
each red blood cell (Brown, M. (2012)). The purpose of hemoglobin is allow red blood cells to
carry carbon dioxide, and oxygen from your lungs to all parts of the body. People with sickle cell
disease inherit the s gene from abnormal hemoglobin from both parents, you usually find out you
have this disease at birth. A blood test is giving to all newborns to look for the s gene known as the
sickle cell gene.
Children and adults can also have this test done. Young children s blood is usually taken from a
finger or heel prick for this test. Adults can have their blood drawn from a vein in the arm.
Pregnant woman who want to know if there baby will have sickle cell disease can have their
unborn baby tested by the amniotic fluid surrounded by the fetus to look for the s gene. In
people with sickle cell anemia the abnormal hemoglobin causes red blood cells to become rigid,
sticky and crescent shaped. The crescent shape is why they call it the s gene. Both of your parents
must carry the s gene. If only one parent has the s gene and passes it

Theories Of Asset Pricing Behaviour
Introduction The Efficient Markets theory has been a source of much controversy within both the
academic and financial worlds. Eugene Fama first defined an efficient market as a market where,
given the available information, actual prices...represent very good estimates of intrinsic values
(1965, p.90). After Harry Roberts (1967) formed the Efficient Market Hypothesis(EMH) , Fama
then went on to publish results that concluded the stock markets are efficient. Thus it is impossible
to achieve consistent abnormal returns. However, investors daily are seeking to defy the EMH and
therefore the hypothesis is under constant audit 252 days a year. Let me firstly clarify what is
meant by anomalies in the market, Anomalies within the market are empirical results that are
inconsistent with current theories of asset pricing behaviour ( G.William Schwert). Anomalies
represent inefficiency in the market ( i.e. Arbitrage opportunities) or issues with the underlying
asset pricing model. Scholars have documented many effects that have generated anomalies:
Weekend Effect, January effect, Size Effect, momentum and contrarian effect. However once these
effects have been reported and analysed, the anomalies seem to disappear or attenuate. As a result, it
is not terribly shocking to see that numerous anomaly generating effects have been brought to the
spotlight in recent years, undermining the proposition of the EMH. Even before the EMH was
proposed, Wachtel( 1942) published findings

Malnutrition In Older Adults
Older adults are particularly at risk for malnutrition due to changes in their bodies as they age and
the medications they take, which can affect their ability to absorb vital nutrients. (Kathleen
Cameron, Senior Director of NCOA s Center for Healthy Aging). Some problems that can be caused
by malnutrition are a weak immune system, poor wound healing, and muscle weakness.
In a study ( Malnutrition Among Cognitively Intact Non Critically Ill Adults in the Emergency
Department. Published online in the Annals of Emergency Medicine) of senior s ER visits reveals
that physician care in the US is out of touch with reality, that there are gaping holes in the
nutritional quality of the American food supply and that modern day health insurance plans are an
illusion of healthcare. In this study the patient s primary care physicians overlooked their
underlying problem of malnutrition. Their insurance plans were useless to issues of nutrition and
only served the medical system. In this study, the statistics show that the doctors typically glance
over the simple ways that diet can be used to bring people back to health. Too many people lean
on a doctor s advice when all they may need to do is seek out better nutrition. ... Show more content

The Laramie Project Play Analysis
Research for The Laramie Project, Moises Kaufman s nationally successful play, began one month
after a horrific crime occurred in Laramie, Wyoming. Members of Kaufman s theatrical group,
Tectonic Theater Project, travelled to the open ranges of the West in order to gather in person
interviews from Laramie s populace. The purpose was to capture the emotions, reflections, and
reactions of the people who were most closely and personally associated to the crime the brutal
beating and subsequent death of a young gay college student named Matthew Shepard. This
incidence had become a national symbol of the struggle against intolerance and brought attention to
the lack of hate crime laws in the U.S. One of the most powerful moments in the play was Dennis

any father would if his son was killed, and this shows the public how abhorrent this crime was; it
opens everyone s eyes about the sad and long lasting impacts of this incidence. Mr. Shepard also
wonders, What would [Matthew] have become? How could he have changed his piece of the
world to make it better? He considered Matthew very strong in enduring all the intolerance and as
a martyr for change. Matthew made good come out of evil and shed light on the worldwide
struggle against intolerance, promoting people to fight for equality. This is very effective because
it creates a personal aspect to the incident and illustrates how Matthew s death severely hurt his

Zino Park used keyboard instead of piano because keyboard could play with many different sound
effects. The title of the fourth song was called, Let s get away from it all . In their fourth song
again, saxophone was played a huge role. From the beginning of the song piano kept playing same
melody line repeated and saxophone was moving wide range of notes and pitch. The rhythm and the
tempo of drum changed as saxophone changed rhythm and the tempo. The bass guitar helped drum
to follow saxophone s rhythm and tempo. The saxophone style was kind of similar with the how
Louis Armstrong was playing a solo. There were two guitars, but saxophone dominated other
instruments and it was difficult to hear other instruments. The fifth song was hand drummer used
sand rattler instead of hand drum. The drum solo in this song was very powerful and brought the
exhilaration of this concert to the climax. The change of unpredictable rhythm and tempo made
audience excited. Many audiences were clapping with rhythm. The sixth song was in blues style.
The Name of the Song was, I ll see you in my dreams . Just bass guitar, saxophone, drum, and
keyboard were playing. It was short piece song but just enough time to feel blues. This piece was
one of few slow tempo songs in this concert. The mix of bass guitar, saxophone, drum, and

The Gap Between Energy Consumption And Energy Generation
CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND Background
The gap between energy consumption and energy generation is gradually increasing and has
become a significant problem for both domestic and industrial applications. Furthermore,
conventional energy sources, like fossil fuels, are not fulfilling the energy needs of the developing
world. And, although they are still major energy sources for both the industrial and domestic
sectors of the world s economy, they are also responsible for many problem, such as environmental
pollution and climate change. Alternative energy sources are essential for, and the best solution to,

The electrical energy method stores electrical energy with the use of batteries. This method is
generally considered the best, most prevalent technique when compared to others. The thermal
energy storage (TES) method, on the other hand, stores energy by changing the internal energy of
materials. There are three types of thermal energy storage; viz., sensible heat, latent heat, and
thermochemical energy storage. These are illustrated in Figure 1 below [1].
Latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) is a particularly appealing method due to its having a
high energy storage capacity, with it storing 5 to 14 times more heat per unit volume when
compared to the conventional sensible heat storage method. The latent heat storage method is a
system based on the charging and discharging of heat once a given storage material subject changes
phases from liquid to solid or from liquid to gas. Additionally, the latent heat storage system stores
energy at a constant, or near constant, temperature during the process of changing phases which, in
turn, depends on the characteristic structure of the phase change materials (PCMs).
Figure 1. Different types of thermal energy storage methods [2]
The Motivation of this Study
For three decades, many techniques have been used for the purpose of storing latent heat thermal
energy by applying different phase change materials. PCMs. are also known as latent heat storage
materials.

Roles Of Music In Africa
The music of Africa varies so much because the continent s many regions, nations, and groups. The
African continent comprises approximately 20 percent of the world s land mass and has a
population of roughly 934 million (Music of Africa). African music differs as its cultures have
branched out into many native forms as well as the huge influence of foreign musicand instruments,
making Africaone of the most musically unique continents in the world. Although there are many
different types of music in Africa, there are a bunch of common elements to music between groups,
especially within regions. The concept of music in Africa, especially in sub Saharan Africabears a
difference from other regions and cultures (Music in Africa). The roles of music and dance are
intertwined in Africa and music is involved in every aspect of life, expressing their stories and lives
through the music and sounds. By helping mark the most important moments in their lives, music
helps to show their thoughts on how important the value of human life is to them. African music
also helps to connect people together in a variety of ways, bringing together separate communities,
which in turn helps people to support each other and both communities toward mutual health and
prosperous lives. Another huge role of music in Africa is as a way of communicating. Talking

Tips Help You Deal With Unwanted Parenting Advice
As soon as you become a mother everyone around you starts acting like a parenting expert or
childcare specialist. Your parents, in laws, friends, cousins, colleagues, neighbors and even random
people you meet in supermarkets or bus journeys offer you generous doses of advice on what you
should and should not do as a parent. Unwanted and unsolicited advicefrom strangers can be
dismissed easily with a passive smile or an um, thanks . But things can get hard when harmless, yet
annoying parentingadvice comes from your family members or people you know personally. Here
are a few tips to help you deal with unwanted parenting advice:
1. Don t dismiss every advice
Parenting is a hard task in itself and it can become harder when you have a bunch of people
around you giving directions and instructions. The danger of keeping yourself exposed to a
plethora of advice is that you start losing perspective after a while. You lose the ability to identify
good advice from bad. There can be people who are genuinely trying to help you out because they
have undergone what you are going through right now. That your colleague asked you to stop
succumbing to toddler tantrums may only mean she too has a tantrum throwing kid. The primary
rule here is not to dismiss every advice that comes your way. Keep your head calm and try to
identify if an advice is stemming from genuine concern or a need to sound knowledgeable.
2. Listen before you speak
It is quite natural to feel defensive when people

My Statement Of Purpose For Chemical Engineering
Learning Chemistry, Maths and Physics never got me tired. I ve started to experience enthusiastic
feelings towards those subjects during my high school as I was acknowledged to proceed with
my upper school in science stream. I couldn t agree more that being a science student is very
challenging as it involves critical thinking which relates with the theories and practical. However,
after a couple of months of learning, I came to realize that I have been intrigued by those subjects
despite the challenging parts of understanding. Hence, I really look forward to further my studies in
Chemical Engineeringwhich involves deeper understanding of those subjects.
Out of so many branches of courses in science and engineering, Chemical Engineering has caught
my eye. I strongly believe that our world in the future needs more Chemical engineer due to its
unsustainable development. Our world today has made many modern inventions which lead to a

The Basic Idea Of Science
THE BASIC IDEA
In the field of physical science it has been proved that absolutely everything can be scientifically
reduced to one ultimate invisible Essence, something which cannot be contacted by the physical
senses. It is therefore only reasonable to say that originally everything must have, and still does,
come from It. According to one s way of thinking, different names are given to It: Energy, Principle,
Universal Intelligence, Universal Mind, Consciousness, Spirit, God.

That too is an inescapable realization drawn from the premise of an infinite being. The Infinite
cannot be one with just one of us. It must be one with every one of us. Each and everyone is one
with the infinite One, God. If you doubt that Jesus came to this conclusion, then consider one
question: Why did he say that when we pray we should pray to Our Father, rather than his Father?
We are all one with the infinite One. I think that we must accept this premise because it is
reasonable; but my insistence that others think and reason as I do would be unreasonable. Anyone
can ignore the infinite One; they just can t be separate or apart from It. We can ignore our heritage,
our inheritance and our inherent nature. Nevertheless it is with us, even thou we deny it. You can
ignore reality, but it doesn t go away.
One Reality The Apostle Paul wrote: In him we live, and move, and have our being [Acts 17:28]
Jesus said: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is
within you. [Lk. 17:21] God would have to be very small to be within all, and very large to
include all. However, to resolve these two extremes, God need only be infinite. Remember what
Ralph Waldo Emersonwrote in his essay, History:
There is no great and no small

And where it cometh, all things are;
And it cometh everywhere. When we envision a God that is omniscient, omnipotent and

Lord Capulet orders Juliet to marry Count Paris. She protests, to no end. She then turns to her
mother who only says that you will do as your father says. Then, in desperation, she turns to her
nurse, who, in her inimitable way, she says well, marry him, two husbands will be better than
one, you will have more fun in bed. At this point in the play Shakespeare has, and the stage
directions are implicit in the lines themselves, left Juliet alone, alone on stage, and she kneels and
she turns now from her earthly father to her Heavenly Father and says: Is there no pity in the
clouds that can see the depth of my grief? And there is no answer, only silence. That is the absurd.
Perhaps the first absurd heroine was Rachel. You recall the slaughter of the innocents where
Herod had all the young male babies of two years and younger put to death to ensure the
liquidation of any possible king. And Rachel cried out, and Matthew tells it in these words: In
Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation and weeping and great mourning. Rachel weeping for
her children and would not be comforted because they are not. And there was no answer to the cry,
only silence. That silence is the absurd.
Is there something of this sense of the absurd to be found in Camus?

Another talismanic visual and material object that aims to protect the individual from the harm
of the glance of the eye is this bracelet which bares the depiction of the Evil Eye. The bracelet is

this one, comes from Upper Egypt and began to be made during the MamlЕ«k period. This is the

With the ulumas desire to purify Islam from the occult, and contemplating that talisman would lead
to idolatry, surely then it would be inaccurate to conclusively claim that the occult science
deteriorated during the MamlЕ«k period as has been the conventional historical paradigm. Michael
Dols, through an analysis of numerous sources, has contended that the use of the occult science in
Medieval Islam was more prevalent than previously acknowledged in the scholastic field. Al Saleh
corroborates with Dols, by arguing that the continuous conquests in the name of Islam engendered
an increase in Islamic magical beliefs, because cultural encounter and exchange were inevitable.
Similarly, to the refutation of astrology, the discontentment shown towards talisman by the
traditionalist implies that the practice and belief of talisman had reached levels of apprehension for
the traditionalist. Livingston acknowledges this by highlighting that in the 14th century, a popular
belief in the occult science had been seen by some to endanger the religious foundation of Islamic
MamlЕ«k. Furthermore, some historians suggest that there was a belief among the amД«rs in the
talismanic influences of ancient carved statues, conceivably of pharaonic origins, within the
MamlЕ«k period. Indeed, then the use of the talisman and the occult was part of the mainstream
medieval MamlЕ«k culture. It may have not been acknowledged previously, as the number of
published textual sources concerning the occult science during MamlЕ«k period is difficult to
come across. Moreover, deliberating the visual and material evidence discussed in this chapter, we
come see that the occult manifested in many forms, ranging from paper scrolls to jewellery.
Remarkably, textual occultist treatises were far

Compare And Contrast William The Conqueror And Charlemagne
Throughout the course of different eras in our history many great, powerful, and memorable
conquerors have left their heritage. The years that spanned from 500 1500 known as the Middle
Ages, or the medieval period, were the Age of Discovery. Were it took a shift from old fashioned
to modern. In the course of such years, forces such as the Church and state rose and fell. Societies
slowly emerged, having strong rulers as allies. It is true, though, that all of these rulers were
peculiarly different. Still, the reign of William the Conqueror and Charlemagneleft a memory of
fierce, strong, and victorious monarchs. The ruling of both of these leaders were very different in
the role of faith and development in learning and knowledge. Yet their success can also be seen in
their leading abilities and great military accomplishments when trying to protect their territories,

Charlemagne, was a man influenced in learning and education, in fact William the Conqueror made
alterations to the English language dictionary. He incorporated various words from other languages
such as French. Yet, stronger in education, Charlemagne was surrounded by scholars from different
areas and he opened a palace school where he recruited the best teachers. Adding to this, both
conquerors, incorporated religion in their skills of conquering. This means, faith was an important
element on how they ruled and their actions. However, Charlemagne and William indeed were very
different. In fact, Charlemagne s rule was maintained by the strength of his personality, meaning a
unified royal authority came first. While William the Conqueror was desperate on winning more

Three important lessons for Irish Retail Banking which can be drawn from the NTUC Case Study.
What are the implications of these lessons for your bank?
There are many learnings to be taken from the NTUC Income case study. The top three that I
would personally glen from it are:
Importance of investment in digital technology. The private business investment spend on IT
Technology consisting of hardware, software and communications equipment grew from 14% in
1999 to 33% in 2013 (2) This upward trend has been driven by customer s and their use of digital
technology via smartphones, tablets and computers. What are the benefits of technology for a
business? There are many, some of which are outlined below:
Reach more existing customers and develop a business relationship with potential customers
Streamline operations, reduce costs, improve efficiency, maximize profit, minimize waste, devote
talent to core business
Provide better service to customers
Allow customers to better guide the business
In 2017 customers no longer need to physically visit a branch unless they really want or need to.
They now can conduct their everyday banking requirements 24/7, 365 days of the year via mobile
banking apps and in most cases it is cheaper for them too, as banks are promoting their online

Reflection Paper On A Material Library
On Friday October 20, 2017, I visited Interspace Limited, an interior design firm that specializes in
commercial interiors. Interspace Limited focuses on furniture specifications, production and project
management, team work, scheduling, and budgeting to ensure that the clients needs are supported
and granted. Furniture and material finishes are their specialty so they are always update with
current trends, manufacture representatives, and business connections. During my firm visit, I
meet with the owner, Darlene Huffman, who kindly showed me around the firm and materials
library. Before and after the materials library, I took advantage of making new connections and
asking personal questions about the firm s unique project process and internship opportunities.
During my time within their materials library, I asked a series of questions to understand the
importance of Interspace Limited s materials. How is there material library organized? How
often do they utilize the material lab? How do you use the material lab? At what point in the
project do they begin to think about materials and why? How do you stay informed of material
trends? What are some of your favorite manufactures and why? And mostly importantly, what is a
local interior space you think expresses good applications and use of materials? Starting with the
questions how is the materials organized and how often do they utilize the materials library? The

My research interests lie in cell signaling, and more broadly, in sensory processing. My interest in
cell signaling has evolved from early studies I conducted on the human A1 adenosine receptor
(hA1AR). In this first exposure to G protein coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling, I aided in
determining those amino acidresidues within the fifth transmembrane spanning region of the
hA1AR that were accessible from the ligand binding crevice using the substituted cysteine
accessibility method (SCAM). Utilization of SCAM entailed modification of the native hA1AR
receptor by mutating single amino acids in the targeted GPCR region to cysteine. So altered
GPCRs were then allowed to react with hydrophilic, cysteine specific methanethiosulfonate... Show

elegans). To do this I participated in the design and creation of a Par 6 green fluorescent protein
(GFP) expressing transgenic nematode. I cloned the par6 gene from an existing C. elegans cDNA
library and fused the product to GFP. I also performed in vitro pull down and in vitro kinase assays
to determine whether Par 6 protein complexes with proteins implicated in calcium signaling.
Most recently I performed research to identify key proteins involved in the termination of the
signaling pathway of intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cell (ipRGCs). The distinctive
photoreceptive properties exhibited by ipRGCs are due to the activity of the GPCR, melanopsin,
which is expressed in these cells. I contributed to our knowledge of melanopsin signaling by aiding
in the identification of an isoform of the downstream effector phospholipase C by conducting the
immunohistochemical experiments that confirmed the RT PCR and physiological data collected
by my colleagues. This work was published in the 2008 article Melanopsin Ganglion Cells Use a
Membrane Associated Rhabdomeric Phototransduction Cascade .
Little information existed regarding termination of the pathway however and to address this
deficiency, I used both biochemical and electrophysiological techniques in a body of work that
culminated in my doctoral thesis. By introducing a series of mutations into C terminal tail of
melanopsin, I was able to

How Did B F Skinner Influence The Development Of Operant...
How B.F. Skinner s evolutionary ideals on the development of operant conditioning has changed
the field of classical conditioning and its effects in behavioral psychology Burrhus Frederic
Skinner was an upcoming behaviorist in the 1920 s. Skinner and many other behaviorists at the
time were revolutionizing the field of psychology by deviating away from common practices and
methods. Skinner was the most influential behaviorist during this time period as he contributed the
greatest by developing a new way of studying behavior, which came to be known as operant
conditioning. Before the development of operant conditioning psychologists mainly focused on
classical conditioning; a much simpler method for explaining the process of behavior.
It was believed by John Watson that classical conditioning could explain all aspects of human
psychology (McLeod, 2008). Human behavior is caused by a stimulus which is then followed by
a response; the main idea of classical conditioning. Before Skinner s discoveries and analysis on
operant conditioning, classical conditioning was the most reasonable method in explaining animal
behavior. Breaking free from social norms Skinner approached behavior by looking at the causes of
an action and how consequences are stronger than responses. Animal behavior could not be ... Show

Why Is Area 51 Controversial
Area 51, one of the United States more controversial sites. The reason for Area 51 being so
controversial? People claim that the United States government is hiding away aliens and ufo is
in the base. The evidence that the people claim to prove this fact is that the base is full of secrets
and very few people know what s going inside. There have also been ufo sightings and random
lights that are happening in the night. To understand the secrecy and mystery of these base we
have to go all the way back until the base was founded.
The base was first reported as actually existing in, 2013 (Blitz). The problem with this statement?
The American public knew about this site a long time before this confirmation was released which
creates skepticism. Also, no one knows what the base is working on at the moment. The fact that no
one knows what s going on inside the base gets people mad since they are using taxpayer s money
to fund the base. Another reason that fuels the argument is the extreme security that the
government employs on Area 51, cameras see every angle, on the distant ... Show more content on

Conformity In One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest
Conformity has been the target of many works of literature even before Holden Caulfield from
Catcher in the Rye spewed angst about everyone around him being a phony. To many people,
there are forces in the social order that shape others to fit a certain mold, and one who does not fit
the mold will be considered an outcast by society. During the 1960 s, rebellion was a shared act
among the majority, including authors and artists; this was due to the conflict in the East as well as
the Civil Rights movement. To these people, the government was a criminal, even a machine
perhaps, which threatened one s individuality. This provides some historical context on the
background of One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest. Ken Kesey, the author, worked in... Show more

Most of the characters are truly plagued by the government, as it rejects any sort of nonconformity
in society. Patients such as McMurphy are forced into the ward because they refuse to conform to
the normal standards of civilization, and thus they must be fixed. The Combine s machines of
oppression cause many to conform, and eventually leads to the fall of many, including McMurphy.
Personified as Nurse Ratched, the Combine s tyranny causes a major conflict with McMurphy
throughout the novel and much of the persecution that he endures. McMurphy rejects compromise
and constantly fights the Big Nurse as she tries to emasculate him and the other patients.
McMurphy, as the representative of the individual, fights against the grip of the mechanized
civilization that has forced him into the ward. He tries to enrage Ratched to cause disorder and
thus destroy the foundation of regularity and consistency; he succeeds in this when he and the
other patients pretend to watch the World Series and Ratched explodes in anger. When McMurphy
finds out that he is one of two patients that are involuntarily committed to the hospital, it makes
him realize that he alone is fighting for his freedom, and the others have been repressed by
Ratched to the point of being afraid to rebel against her or simply leave. McMurphy fights until the
end to free these men of their emasculation even if it

Braking Control System Design
This part of the book deals with the main aspects of both braking control. Specifically, the basic
solutions to braking control systems design are introduced based on the actuators, with
continuous and discrete dynamics. When designing a control system the first step is to define
the controlled variable. Two possible choices will considered. It will be shown how wheel slip
control is the natural choice in this case. The problem of how to design the control taking into
account the actuator dynamics and the activation/deactivation logic will not be explicitly
addressed. Also, the use of an actuator with discrete dynamics, which introduces limit cycles,
won t be analyzed in this thesis. 6 2 Wheel Slip Control Commercial braking systems are based
on heuristic methods related to wheel deceleration. However, it is clear that the slip control
problem is more suitable for the design of braking controllers that are robust with respect to road
surface variations, the design steps for the synthesis of a linear wheel slip controller will be
presented and discussed. The wheel slip control has a straight forward graphical interpretation
(figure 6 3). It should be noted that whatever the value the set point , the regulation scheme
guarantees the uniqueness of the equilibrium point. Also, as long as 0.1 0.2 the friction coefficient
is close to its optimal value for every road condition. That issue is very important since it allows
the use of a fixed structure controller, with no need

Essay about A Stroke
A stroke is a type of cardiovascular disease that affects the cerebral arteries, those blood vessels
that carry blood to the brain. A stroke occurs when one of those blood vessels in the brain is
obstructed or ruptures flooding the brain with blood. Depriving blood and oxygen to the brain
results in those immediate cells death, causing the brain not to function properly. Once parts of the
brain stop functioning, it can directly affect the areas of the body controlled (1). A strokecan be

ischemic stroke. This occurs when a bloodclot (cerebral thrombosis) blocks a blood vessel in the

pressure in the brain. This build up of pressure within the brain can cause altered brain function

occur quickly and may cause: sudden numbness, tingling, or weakness, or paralysis in your face,
arm, or leg, especially on one side of your body. Sudden: vision changes, trouble speaking
(slurred speech), confusion or trouble understanding simple statements, problems with walking
or balance, severe headache. It s recommended to call a doctor or 911 even if these symptoms
last for a short amount of time because a transient ischemic attack, or mini stroke may have
occurred. The transient ischemic attack may be a precursor to a stroke occurring soon. Catching
these symptoms can dramatically increase chances of prevention additional damage to the body
(2). To have their symptoms diagnosed, a person must first seek medical treatment. Only 20 25%
of patients who are admitted to the hospital with a stroke arrive in the emergency department
within 3 hours of the onset of symptoms (3). Once a doctor is able to determine what kind of
stroke has occurred, it is important the appropriate medicine be given. If the wrong medicine were
given to treat a stroke victim, it could result in death. Treatment for an ischemic stroke will focus

Women of both the ages of Victorian and early Modernism were restricted from education at
universities or the financial independence of professionalism. In both ages, women writers often
rebelled against perceived female expectations as a result of their oppression. To lead a solitary
life as a subservient wife and mother was not satisfactory for writers like Elizabeth Barrett
Browning and Virginia Woolf. One of the most popular female poetsof the Victorian era, Elizabeth

Red Rabbit Essay
Secrets are one of the hardest things to try and keep hidden. Secrets are like caged animals they
are constantly looking for a way out. The effort they need exhausts a person physically, mentally,
and emotionally. The problems with keeping a secret are obviously shown in the short film, Red
Rabbit. A hidden secret will get bigger, it will take over one s life, and at some point it will
come out. No matter how hard or how well something is hidden, eventually it will grow, and
trying to hide it will become a whole different story. A hidden secret will get bigger. For example,
in the picture frame at the beginning of the Red Rabbit film there is a happy man and a small
rabbit, as the film proceeds that small rabbit is not so small anymore. The man in the film would

Secrets are no exception to this rule. A secret will take over your life. For example, the man in

is revolved around keeping the secret hidden. Another example would be that the man never

supplies for the rabbit. Because he only ever goes out for the rabbit s sake, suggests that he has
no friends and no social life. The last example that suggests that the secret has taken over his life,
is the fact that he can t be with the woman he likes. The rabbit has taken over his life to such an

The violence continues as statues keep coming down in America currently. My goal today is to

tell you why I believe in them and there purposes. First why we need to keep them and not take
them down. Second they will help educated the future people for the better. Last of all I think
that we should keep the statues all the way and this is why. Why should we keep the statues you
may ask, well there is no right or wrong answer for this topic but I will do my best to defend my
point and belief of why these statues should not be torn down. The biggest reason I don t want
these statues torn down is that it s not just a big piece of metal sitting there or a regular statue, these
are statues that have history behind them over the years on when the south fought the north for a
big turn for American history. People think they are racist or wrong, but really they show where
we are from and what we are about. This Battle goes back to a massive shooting in 2015, when

Virtual Private Networks Commonly Called As Vpn
1.Overview: Virtual private networks commonly called as VPN. It carries request among the
customers, servers and computers to deliver protective support to the customers. These VPN s
helps the users to connect from the senders to the receiver with a secure connection. It is one of
the easiest and safest methods to link to any remote network. The term is derived from the blend
of virtual private networks that separates the congregation of nodes and similarly VM models
which protects the resources to host functioning frameworks. VPN connects establishes link from
one end to the other end of the customers systems remotely from distant locations. This was a new
innovative means of connecting Local Area Network (LAN) as well as to Wireless Local Area
Network (WLAN). It safeguards the data of the customers using different protocol connections.
Mostly, the data is encrypted after transmission and also after obtaining at the receivers end. A
means of security layer is used during the encryption, and in obtaining the system addresses at
starting. Apart from the other leased connections, VPN offers a lease less establishment throughout
the universe. This was the one of the advantages of VPN; moreover it provides data security to the
systems during encryption, offers flexibility to the organizations that works for distant locations
and similarly to users of the internet. It saves most of the time, budget and energy of the employees
who works remotely. Since the leased lines are

Sleeping And Drowsy Driving Research Paper
Sleepiness and drowsy driving contributes to a clear majority of motor vehicular accidents.
Reports on accounts of different aspect of sleep related vehicle accident have been previously
studied. A considerable amount of accidents is due to falling asleep while operating a vehicle.
Why these accidents happen and the minor provisions that could be applied to prevent someone
from serious injury or death could save lives. Information was also provided on studies of car
accidents in relation to sleep, causes of sleepiness while driving, and ways to prevent accident
from a sleepy driver. A statewide survey revealed that 7% of motor vehicle accidents resulted in
fatal consequences. (Prevention, 2009 2010) If someone is sleepy or drowsy driving, then

The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Movies that feature characters adapted from novels often change personality traits in order to suit
the film s plot. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is no exception; Mina Harker and the
Invisible Man had drastic changes made to their personality in order to better suit the storyline.
Both of them were given traits that starkly contradict their book personas to create more flawed and
realistic characters.
The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells features Griffin, a scientist who has discovered how to turn
himself and other things invisible. The story follows the undoing of Griffin and his fall into
notoriety. Wilhelmina Mina Harker is the opposite of Griffin. In Draculaby Bram Stoker she is the
dutiful wife to Jonathan Harker, who has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be attributed to the fact that Rodney Skinner is not the original Invisible Man. Skinner
is a petty thief who stole the formula for invisibility and used it on himself. The biggest
difference between Griffin and Skinner is their response to setbacks. In The Invisible Man
Griffin has a terrible temper. When things don t go his way he lashes out or injures those who try
to stop him. Skinner, on the other hand, has a very calm demeanor. After finding out that the
League had been betrayed he didn t lash out; in fact he took that as an opportunity to prove
himself as useful to the team. This difference is caused by Griffin and Skinner s motivations. At
first Skinner used his invisibility as a way to become a better thief. Despite his primary intentions,
Skinner began to use his invisibility for the greater good. Griffin however, wanted to use
invisibility to gain recognition. It was ironic how he turned himself invisible so people would begin
to notice him.
Griffin s selfish behavior is made clear throughout The Invisible Man, especially towards the end.
Griffin uses a man named Mr. Marvel as a pawn and puts the old man in danger in order to protect
himself. We also find out that his selfish behavior started long before he became invisible. We see
Griffin tell Kemp about how he stole money from his father to further his scientific investigations.
This is opposite to Skinner s self sacrificing behavior in the

Chaos And Disorganization In Station Eleven
When defining madness, people often point toward the words crazy or delusional, but when I
think of madness, I think of a state of chaos and disorganization. To many characters in the book
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel, chaos is a part of life, especially after a man called
the prophet is introduced into their lives. After a flu pandemic breaks out, ninety nine percent of
the human population perishes. Without electricity, transportation, or a cure, the 1% of humanity
that is left must either fight for supplies or work together. One man decides that the best way to
get what he wants is to force it from people by murdering them, kidnapping their loved ones, or
abusing them. He gains power through force and intimidation, while saying that he is good and
that he and his people were saved not only to spread the light , but to be the light. (60) This man
was called the prophet by all because he stated that he was guided by visions and signs, and
prophetic dreams. (125) The reason the prophet believes this comes from his childhood and
upbringing right before and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In one of the flashbacks, a young boy named Tyler (who we later find out is the prophet) talks to
a man about how he believes that people who were good, and people who weren t weak, (260)
were saved from the flu and that s why only 1% of the human population is left. This flashback
shows exactly why the prophet believes that he and his people are the light. Although he believes
that he is doing good in the world, he is creating madness by destroying groups of people,
destroying shelters, and destroying lives. The prophet acts contrarily to his words. Instead of
creating peace and awareness, he chooses to create violence and harm to the people left after the
flu pandemic. To many, this behavior would seem unreasonable and crazy, but to the people who
follow the prophet, it seems to be

Menorrhagia Research Paper
Introduction
Menorrhagia, or heavy menstrual flow, is one of the greatest common complaints met by primary
care doctors and gynecologists. It is defined as menstrual loss of more than 80 mL. This translates
to menses that continues for more than seven days or the use of more than 10 pads or tampons per
day. It is most commonly associated with perimenopause. (1) Although menorrhagia is not fatal, it
can cause chronic anemia, pelvic pain and cramping. The condition also severely influences quality
of life by disrupting work, social functioning and family life.(2) The old style primary management
for menorrhagia caused by submucosal myomas or endometrial polyps involved major surgical
procedure, with menorrhagia responsible for almost 20 percent ... Show more content on

It is quicker, simpler, safer lesion removal. In 2005, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
approved the TRUCLEARв„ў hysteroscopic morcellator (Smith Nephew, Andover, MA) as the first
motorized morcellator for intrauterine pathology. In 2009, the FDA approved another
hysteroscopic morcellation device the MyoSureВ® Tissue Removal System (Hologic, Bedford,
MA). Similar to the first generation TRUCLEAR, the second generation MyoSure system depends
on a suction based, mechanical energy, rotating tubular cutter system rather than the high frequency
electrical energy historically used by resectoscopy systems to eliminate intrauterine tissue.(20) Once
placed inside the uterine cavity, the device shaves off and immediately suctions out any excised
tissue that might impair visibility. The ability to remove and instantly suction out tissue fragments
means the hysteroscopy and morcellator are inserted only once, for initial entry. This is a huge
advantage from both the physician s and the patient s point of view. For the physician, the
immediate removal of tissue through the probe makes surgery much simpler to perform and
requires less surgical time. The advantage for the patient is a much safer treatment. Shorter
operating time means less exposure to general anesthesia and puts the

Wild Style Essay
Wild Style is a hip hop film that was produced by Charlies Ahearm in 1983. This movie is
considered to be one of the most influential films in a hip hop history, because it is the first hip
hop motion picture and has main elements of hip hop in it. After the soundtracks of the movie
had been released, people started to know more about a culture of hip hop. The movie plot also
makes it even more interesting. This movie travels back in time to the period that hip hop was
not well known and was among a small group of people. Zoro is the New York City boy who has
a passion for hip hop culture, especially graffiti. Even though other people disagree with his
decision, Zero still tries to prove his belief when he is hired to paint a stage on a hip hop concert
event. The several elements of hip hop are seen in this movie and are all interacted as he says
[Graffiti artist] makes those letter dance (2). In this paper, I will illustrate how Wild Style shows
the interconnection of two main hip hop s elements that are mostly involved in this film: graffiti
and breakdancing. First of all, graffiti is a hip hop s element that can be seen throughout the film.
As a matter of fact, we first see it in a very beginning of the film. A young male climbs down a rope
to spray and leave his signature on a wall is an opening sequence... Show more content on

In addition to graffiti, we see a lot of breakdancing scenes in this movie. The example is when
the white journalist Virginia go to a black club with Zoro, Phade, and Hector. In this scene, we
see a full element of hip hop. Everyone can dance in this scene, even young kids. One thing that
makes this scene interesting is the fact that, in the old days a club in black community is more
like a meet up place. It is a gathering space where everyone can come and enjoy the music.
Everyone is welcome to go on a stage and rap. Everyone has a freedom of speech, but also respect

Margaret Sanger s Stand Up For Birth Control Rights
Imagine being a married woman in your 30 s during the beginning of the twentieth century. You
are worn out from giving birth multiple times and you are desperate to know of a way to prevent
yourself from having more children. This was the exact case for millions of women in the
twentieth century. Women had no rights as a person, nor did they have any rights to their own
bodies. In this era, the topics of sexuality, sex or birth controlwere all taboo subject matters and
never discussed between married or un married couples. It wasn t until the year of 1912 that a
woman by the name of Margaret Sangerstarted her crusade to promote the right for women to use
contraceptives to prevent unwanted pregnancies. In this essay, I will discuss what inspired
Margaret Sanger to stand up for birth control rights. I will also explore the trials and legal issues
that Sanger came up against. Lastly, I will talk about the victory and the difference Sanger made
for women in the twentieth century. Margaret Louise Higgins (Sanger was her married name)
was born in the year of 1879 in Corning, New York. She was sixth of eleven children and was
born into an Irish American family. Margaret knew at a very young age that she wanted to make a
difference to empower women and to leave her mark on the world. Margaret was first inspired to
go into the nursing field after witnessing her own mother die at the young age of forty from
tuberculosis (TB). Margaret s mother endured eighteen pregnancies but, she

Tati 3 Worlds
Q1: What are the specificities of the three worlds displayed in the film? In the film, there were
three worlds displayed all separate from each other but still holding the same image for something
happening in France at the time. The new city showed signs of the advancing world the Tati had
lived in during the 1950 s. In the 1950 s France was recovering from war efforts from WWII. The
new world shows how France was rebuilding many structures and factories, and how these things
were not in common of what the old world was. Many of the streets had also been in non
contemporary grid styles. As well as people in neighborhoods staying within the bounds of their
homes, not communicating much, and trying to have their household become better than... Show

In the new world, everything was mostly gray. If there was color, it was very vibrant and
centralized to a specific location. For example, the car showed different colors of being pink and
green. The old world on the other hand had tons of colors. Everything was colorful, very little gray
was around, and it all just seemed more interesting to the viewer. This various range of colors had to
do with the idea that Tati was hinting that even though the new world has tons of different and new
technologies, there was not as much culture within it. The old world had lively colors, showing
how different the two worlds really were. In fact, Tati might have been showing how to new
world is not all it s cracked up to be as compared to the old world. Tati was trying to show that
people should just stick to the old world that had much more culture than the new

Life of Audie Leon Murphy
Audie L. Murphy Audie Leon Murphy was born on June 20, 1924 near Kingston, Texas, one of
twelve children born to Emmett Berry Murphy and Josie Bell (Killian) Murphy (Simpson, n.d.).
The Murphy family was a group of poor sharecroppers of Irish descent and Audie had to begin
working at an early age to help support his family. Audie attended grade school in Celeste, Texas
until the age of twelve, when his father abandoned the family in 1936. With less than a fifth
grade education, Murphy left school and went to work full time as a farm laborer, hunter, store
clerk and gas station attendant to support his family (Smith, 1960, p. 1). Audie might have lived
the rest of his life as a lower income civilian if the Japanese had not bombed Pearl Harbor. The
December 7, 1941 sneak attack on Pearl Harbor called forth mass enlistment in every branch of
the Armed Forces by young Americans; Audie Murphy was among them. Audie applied to the
U.S. Army and in June 1942 was enlisted into the 3rd Infantry Division 15th Regiment. During
the course of World War II, Audie served in seven major campaigns, was promoted from Private
to First Lieutenant, and was received 24 decorations, including the Medal of Honor, which he
earned on January 26, 1945. His actions in earning the Medal of Honor were by the Secretary of
War as В¦indomitable courage and В¦refusal to give an inch of ground (U. S. Secretary of War,
1945), and more pointedly described by an eyewitness as В¦the greatest display of

Fences by August Wilson
Throughout history, civilizations have built fences to keep enemies out and keep those they want
to protect inside. In society today, people create metaphorical fences in order to fence in their
feelings, while others create literal fences in order to keep the unwanted away. In the play Fences,
the Maxon family lives in 1950 s America whose lovefor sports and one another are questioned at
times when they need to be together the most. In the play Fences by August Wilson, two main
characters Troy and Cory Maxon build a fence, literally and metaphorically, which as the book
progresses, becomes a symbol that allows each character to truly understand each other. In
Fences, Troy Maxon builds a fence around his property that contains metaphorical reasons as
well as the literal meaning. During a conversation with Troy and Cory, Bono mentions the fence
Troy is building for his wife Rose and says Some people build fences to keep people out...and
other people build fences to keep people in. Rose wants to hold on to you all. She loves you
(61). Bono explains this to Troy because Cory was unable to comprehend why Rose wanted the
fence up in the first place. This opens the reader up to the symbolization of the fence itself. The
fence allows Rose to keep Troy with her because she has loved him for so many years and does
not want to let him go or leave her for another woman. Later, in Act two, Troy, after speaking to
Rose about his new baby who he had with his mistress Alberta,

Social Injustice In Richard Wright s Native Son
During the summer of 2015, I had an opportunity to read a book for my AP English class. The
book named Native Son by Richard Wright is listed as among the top 100 books by the
American Library Association. Native Son by Richard Wright was written in 1940. The
protagonist in the story is a 20 year old named Bigger Thomas, a black boy; who lives in a poor
area on Chicago s South Side in the 1930s. My examination and analysis of this book is that this
book is about symbolism and the pessimistic views of Bigger and this is effectively depicted by
the relationships between black and white people during the depression era. This book also depicts
the central theme of social injustice that was prevalent during those times. In the... Show more

With a threat to the black community, political power may rise to a higher extent, making the
population double the violence of chaos and corruption. A sense of courage is needed to eradicate
violence and to end the influence of whites dominating black communities. The New York Times
article explains more in depth about how the black rights matter movement contributed to the
complexities of black political culture and how urban naturalism can be changed for a greater
extent. Life has value, but death is not simply another thing that happens to human beings. Bigger
s attitude gradually changes from not having a true meaning of life to having a true meaning of
life. Reference to Elle Hearn s quote, who is a strategic adviser, said that, It s not just about
changing laws, hearts, and minds, it s about actually changing action. From his perspective, he
actually means to change the course of humanity for the better. In the novel, Bigger realizes that an
action of changing life s meaning into something better helped him to change his own life.
Although he couldn t acknowledge that he was an educated person, he still had the time to correct
his mistakes and to put off death by living for others. The importance of the book and the article
helped to draw attention to the main theme, which is reflecting the behavior of the white society
and revealing its true meaning. For Bigger, his social attitudes and beliefs prevented him from
taking opportunities for advancement. Therefore, we all need to be ready to support ourselves and
prevent racial tensions from happening. The influence of the blacks has had a great effect on their
political culture and their way of expressing themselves to the urban

  • 2. The Election of 1912 Essay The Election of 1912 During the Progressive Era, Americans faced the challenge of choosing between four strong candidates of the election of 1912. Each candidate held concrete platforms that would have different effects on progressivism. Americans could chose the conservative presidential incumbent William Howard Taft(R), the New Jersey governor Woodrow Wilson(D), the long time fighter for social reform Eugene V. Debs (S), or the former president Theodore Rooseveltof the newly formed Bull Moose Party (Progressive Party). Through this election many steps were taken to change the face of the election ... After Theodore Roosevelt was denied the Republican nomination, he was elected in the newly formed Progressive Party. Theodore was the man for the job saying, In loyalty, honor and duty there was nothing for me to do but to heed their call and make the race with all my might, regardless of present or future consequences to myself . (Miller 527) With this spirit, this third party had accomplished the unthinkable by becoming in second in the presidential election of 1912. This was the only time in American history that the Republican Party has come in third in both the popular and electoral vote. Sidney M. Milkis stated, Ostensibly, the cause of ProgressivismВ—the platform s commitment to direct democracy and social and industrial justiceВ—gave reform leadership its dignity, indeed its heroic quality. With all the plants and beauty, the only people on my island are young women. Everyday, my beautiful, young maids and I awaited the arrival of a man or woman lost at sea. For years we waited, no person ever washing upon our shore. All we longed was a new friend, or man to get lost at sea and wash up on our island for us to care for and love. When a stranger showed up on my island after swimming in the ocean, I kindly took him in. No one ever visits my wondrous island, and no one ever leaves my island. He told me of how his men killed Helios forbidden cattle and Zeus destroyed his ship as a punishment for this forbidden act. He told me that he had been swimming for days, his ship destroyed and all his loyal men killed. I began to care for him as a mother cares for their child, bathing them in a warm tub of water, feeding them warm soup made in the kitchen and putting them to sleep in a warm, comforting bed, as soft as a pillow that swallows them when they sleep. • 5. Chip Card Adoption Essay Brief history of EMV adoption (EMVCo, LLC, 2014) Chip cards were originally invented in 1977. The first mass deployment of chip cards for payment by the banking industry was in France in 1984, driven by a need to reduce high levels of fraud due to counterfeit and lost/stolen magnetic stripe cards. By 1994 all French banks carried chip cards, deployed using the French specification called B0 , and were able to significantly reduce fraud. Based on this success, there was a spread of chip card adoption throughout various markets in Europe in 1990s. Each of them had specifications tailored to their local market. The inter operability issues created a need for a global standard. Europay, Mastercard and Visa joined together in 1994 to form EMV, in order to create a global standard and had their first field trial in 1997. With 1.62 billion EMV compliant payments cards in use worldwide, EMV has certainly transformed the payments landscape. Stakeholders EMV evolved from its initial three members, into a consortium called EMVco formed in 1999, consisting of Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, China UnionPay, and Discover. It functions as the standards body for EMV specifications and to ensure its global interoperability. Along with EMVco, there are various stakeholders who are crucial to the successful adoption of EMV. They are namely the merchants (acceptors), acquirers/processors, issuers/banks, payment system integrators and value added resellers (VAR). While deployments ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. How Hadoop Is An Apache Open Source Software ( Java... Hadoop is an Apache open source software (java framework). It runs on cluster of commodity machines and provides both distributed storage and distributed processing of huge data sets. It is capable of processing data sizes ranging from Gigabytes to Petabytes. Architecture : Similar to master / slave architecture. The master is the Namenode and the Slaves are the data nodes. The Namenode maintains and manages blocks of datanodes. They are responsible for dealing with clients requests of data. Hadoop splits the files into one or more blocks and these blocks are stored on datanodes. Each datanode is replicated to provide fault tolerance characteristic of Hadoop. Default replicator factor is 3 which can be configured. Components: 1.Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS): It is designed to run on hardware which are less expensive and the data is stored in it distributed. It is highly fault tolerance and provides high throughput access to the applications that require big data. 2.Namenode: It manages the system namespace. It stores the metadata of data blocks. The metadata is stored in the form of namespace image and edit logs on a local machine. The namenode knows the location of each datablock on the data node. 3.Secondary Namenode: It is responsible for merging the namespace image and edit log to create check points. This would help namenode to free up memory taken up by edits logs from the start to the latest check point. 4.DataNode: Stores blocks of data and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Reflections On Barron And Kenny Reflections on Barron Kenny s 1986 article The Moderator Mediator Variable Distinction in Social Psychological Research: Conceptual, Strategic, and Statistical Considerations The relationships between independent and dependent variables can be very complex. Moderation and mediation is one way to make sense of this complexity, but add a level of complexity of their own. Due to this complexity, psychological researchers can be unclear on the differences of the terms and use them in an inaccurate and misleading fashion, indicating that a moderation is a mediation and a mediation is a moderation. The authors make the differences clear through explaining that a moderator allows for changing direction or strength of relationship, while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A hypothesis might read that the relationship between self kindness and depression is accounted for in part by self kindness leading to more resilience which leads to less depression. This mediation is different than than a recent moderation effect in another study where level of perceived social support acts as a moderator on the relationship between a participant s level of perceived stress on the previous day and their pain level on the following day. If a participant has more social support, the relationship between their previous day level of perceived stress and current day pain level is reduced compared to if they have less perceived social support. This seems to be obviously a moderator rather than a mediator because level of perceived social support is changing the slope of the regression line. The relationship between the independent or predictor variable and the dependent or outcome variable is stronger or weaker depending on the level of the mediator. It is also possible for the relationship to change direction depending on the mediator. This seems to further separate moderator from mediator as level of a mediator would not change the relationship between the predictor and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Cell Anemi The Common Genetic Disorder Essay SICKEL CELL ANEMIA Sickle Cell Anemia or (SCD) is the most common genetic disorder across the entire world it is an inherited genetic condition giving to you by both your mother and father that affects your hemoglobin. There is a mutation in the gene that tells your body to make hemoglobin (a red iron rich compound that gives blood its red color). There are over 600 million hemoglobin molecules in each red blood cell (Brown, M. (2012)). The purpose of hemoglobin is allow red blood cells to carry carbon dioxide, and oxygen from your lungs to all parts of the body. People with sickle cell disease inherit the s gene from abnormal hemoglobin from both parents, you usually find out you have this disease at birth. A blood test is giving to all newborns to look for the s gene known as the sickle cell gene. Children and adults can also have this test done. Young children s blood is usually taken from a finger or heel prick for this test. Adults can have their blood drawn from a vein in the arm. Pregnant woman who want to know if there baby will have sickle cell disease can have their unborn baby tested by the amniotic fluid surrounded by the fetus to look for the s gene. In people with sickle cell anemia the abnormal hemoglobin causes red blood cells to become rigid, sticky and crescent shaped. The crescent shape is why they call it the s gene. • 10. Theories Of Asset Pricing Behaviour Introduction The Efficient Markets theory has been a source of much controversy within both the academic and financial worlds. Eugene Fama first defined an efficient market as a market where, given the available information, actual prices...represent very good estimates of intrinsic values (1965, p.90). After Harry Roberts (1967) formed the Efficient Market Hypothesis(EMH) , Fama then went on to publish results that concluded the stock markets are efficient. Thus it is impossible to achieve consistent abnormal returns. However, investors daily are seeking to defy the EMH and therefore the hypothesis is under constant audit 252 days a year. Let me firstly clarify what is meant by anomalies in the market, Anomalies within the market are empirical results that are inconsistent with current theories of asset pricing behaviour ( G.William Schwert). Anomalies represent inefficiency in the market ( i.e. Arbitrage opportunities) or issues with the underlying asset pricing model. Scholars have documented many effects that have generated anomalies: Weekend Effect, January effect, Size Effect, momentum and contrarian effect. However once these effects have been reported and analysed, the anomalies seem to disappear or attenuate. As a result, it is not terribly shocking to see that numerous anomaly generating effects have been brought to the spotlight in recent years, undermining the proposition of the EMH. Even before the EMH was proposed, Wachtel( 1942) published findings ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Malnutrition In Older Adults Older adults are particularly at risk for malnutrition due to changes in their bodies as they age and the medications they take, which can affect their ability to absorb vital nutrients. (Kathleen Cameron, Senior Director of NCOA s Center for Healthy Aging). Some problems that can be caused by malnutrition are a weak immune system, poor wound healing, and muscle weakness. In a study ( Malnutrition Among Cognitively Intact Non Critically Ill Adults in the Emergency Department. Published online in the Annals of Emergency Medicine) of senior s ER visits reveals that physician care in the US is out of touch with reality, that there are gaping holes in the nutritional quality of the American food supply and that modern day health insurance plans are an illusion of healthcare. In this study the patient s primary care physicians overlooked their underlying problem of malnutrition. Their insurance plans were useless to issues of nutrition and only served the medical system. Mr. Shepard was heartbroken, as any father would if his son was killed, and this shows the public how abhorrent this crime was; it opens everyone s eyes about the sad and long lasting impacts of this incidence. The Gap Between Energy Consumption And Energy Generation CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND Background The gap between energy consumption and energy generation is gradually increasing and has become a significant problem for both domestic and industrial applications. Furthermore, conventional energy sources, like fossil fuels, are not fulfilling the energy needs of the developing world. And, although they are still major energy sources for both the industrial and domestic sectors of the world s economy, they are also responsible for many problem, such as environmental pollution and climate change. This method is generally considered the best, most prevalent technique when compared to others. The thermal energy storage (TES) method, on the other hand, stores energy by changing the internal energy of materials. There are three types of thermal energy storage; viz., sensible heat, latent heat, and thermochemical energy storage. These are illustrated in Figure 1 below [1]. Latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) is a particularly appealing method due to its having a high energy storage capacity, with it storing 5 to 14 times more heat per unit volume when compared to the conventional sensible heat storage method. The latent heat storage method is a system based on the charging and discharging of heat once a given storage material subject changes phases from liquid to solid or from liquid to gas. Additionally, the latent heat storage system stores energy at a constant, or near constant, temperature during the process of changing phases which, in turn, depends on the characteristic structure of the phase change materials (PCMs). The African continent comprises approximately 20 percent of the world s land mass and has a population of roughly 934 million (Music of Africa). African music differs as its cultures have branched out into many native forms as well as the huge influence of foreign musicand instruments, making Africaone of the most musically unique continents in the world. Although there are many different types of music in Africa, there are a bunch of common elements to music between groups, especially within regions. The roles of music and dance are intertwined in Africa and music is involved in every aspect of life, expressing their stories and lives through the music and sounds. By helping mark the most important moments in their lives, music helps to show their thoughts on how important the value of human life is to them. African music also helps to connect people together in a variety of ways, bringing together separate communities, which in turn helps people to support each other and both communities toward mutual health and prosperous lives. • 16. Tips Help You Deal With Unwanted Parenting Advice As soon as you become a mother everyone around you starts acting like a parenting expert or childcare specialist. Your parents, in laws, friends, cousins, colleagues, neighbors and even random people you meet in supermarkets or bus journeys offer you generous doses of advice on what you should and should not do as a parent. Unwanted and unsolicited advicefrom strangers can be dismissed easily with a passive smile or an um, thanks . But things can get hard when harmless, yet annoying parentingadvice comes from your family members or people you know personally. Here are a few tips to help you deal with unwanted parenting advice: 1. Don t dismiss every advice Parenting is a hard task in itself and it can become harder when you have a bunch of people around you giving directions and instructions. The danger of keeping yourself exposed to a plethora of advice is that you start losing perspective after a while. You lose the ability to identify good advice from bad. There can be people who are genuinely trying to help you out because they have undergone what you are going through right now. That your colleague asked you to stop succumbing to toddler tantrums may only mean she too has a tantrum throwing kid. The primary rule here is not to dismiss every advice that comes your way. Keep your head calm and try to identify if an advice is stemming from genuine concern or a need to sound knowledgeable. 2. Listen before you speak It is quite natural to feel defensive when people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Basic Idea Of Science THE BASIC IDEA In the field of physical science it has been proved that absolutely everything can be scientifically reduced to one ultimate invisible Essence, something which cannot be contacted by the physical senses. It is therefore only reasonable to say that originally everything must have, and still does, come from It. According to one s way of thinking, different names are given to It: Energy, Principle, Universal Intelligence, Universal Mind, Consciousness, Spirit, God. That too is an inescapable realization drawn from the premise of an infinite being. The Infinite cannot be one with just one of us. It must be one with every one of us. Each and everyone is one with the infinite One, God. If you doubt that Jesus came to this conclusion, then consider one question: Why did he say that when we pray we should pray to Our Father, rather than his Father? We are all one with the infinite One. I think that we must accept this premise because it is reasonable; but my insistence that others think and reason as I do would be unreasonable. Anyone can ignore the infinite One; they just can t be separate or apart from It. We can ignore our heritage, our inheritance and our inherent nature. Nevertheless it is with us, even thou we deny it. You can ignore reality, but it doesn t go away. One Reality The Apostle Paul wrote: In him we live, and move, and have our being [Acts 17:28] Jesus said: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. [Lk. 17:21] God would have to be very small to be within all, and very large to include all. However, to resolve these two extremes, God need only be infinite. Remember what Ralph Waldo Emersonwrote in his essay, History: There is no great and no small To the Soul that maketh all: And where it cometh, all things are; And it cometh everywhere. With the ulumas desire to purify Islam from the occult, and contemplating that talisman would lead to idolatry, surely then it would be inaccurate to conclusively claim that the occult science deteriorated during the MamlЕ«k period as has been the conventional historical paradigm. Michael Dols, through an analysis of numerous sources, has contended that the use of the occult science in Medieval Islam was more prevalent than previously acknowledged in the scholastic field. Al Saleh corroborates with Dols, by arguing that the continuous conquests in the name of Islam engendered an increase in Islamic magical beliefs, because cultural encounter and exchange were inevitable. Similarly, to the refutation of astrology, the discontentment shown towards talisman by the traditionalist implies that the practice and belief of talisman had reached levels of apprehension for the traditionalist. Livingston acknowledges this by highlighting that in the 14th century, a popular belief in the occult science had been seen by some to endanger the religious foundation of Islamic MamlЕ«k. My interest in cell signaling has evolved from early studies I conducted on the human A1 adenosine receptor (hA1AR). In this first exposure to G protein coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling, I aided in determining those amino acidresidues within the fifth transmembrane spanning region of the hA1AR that were accessible from the ligand binding crevice using the substituted cysteine accessibility method (SCAM). Utilization of SCAM entailed modification of the native hA1AR receptor by mutating single amino acids in the targeted GPCR region to cysteine. Skinner s evolutionary ideals on the development of operant conditioning has changed the field of classical conditioning and its effects in behavioral psychology Burrhus Frederic Skinner was an upcoming behaviorist in the 1920 s. Skinner and many other behaviorists at the time were revolutionizing the field of psychology by deviating away from common practices and methods. Skinner was the most influential behaviorist during this time period as he contributed the greatest by developing a new way of studying behavior, which came to be known as operant conditioning. Before the development of operant conditioning psychologists mainly focused on classical conditioning; a much simpler method for explaining the process of behavior. It was believed by John Watson that classical conditioning could explain all aspects of human psychology (McLeod, 2008). Human behavior is caused by a stimulus which is then followed by a response; the main idea of classical conditioning. Specifically, the basic solutions to braking control systems design are introduced based on the actuators, with continuous and discrete dynamics. When designing a control system the first step is to define the controlled variable. Two possible choices will considered. It will be shown how wheel slip control is the natural choice in this case. The problem of how to design the control taking into account the actuator dynamics and the activation/deactivation logic will not be explicitly addressed. Also, the use of an actuator with discrete dynamics, which introduces limit cycles, won t be analyzed in this thesis. 6 2 Wheel Slip Control Commercial braking systems are based on heuristic methods related to wheel deceleration. However, it is clear that the slip control problem is more suitable for the design of braking controllers that are robust with respect to road surface variations, the design steps for the synthesis of a linear wheel slip controller will be presented and discussed. The wheel slip control has a straight forward graphical interpretation (figure 6 3). It should be noted that whatever the value the set point , the regulation scheme guarantees the uniqueness of the equilibrium point. For example, the man in the film, his main focus is trying to keep the rabbit contained in the bedroom whenever it tries to come out. That suggests that he is so afraid about the secret being discovered, that his entire life is revolved around keeping the secret hidden. Another example would be that the man never leaves his apartment, and when he does, it is mainly because he needs to get food and other supplies for the rabbit. Because he only ever goes out for the rabbit s sake, suggests that he has no friends and no social life. The last example that suggests that the secret has taken over his life, is the fact that he can t be with the woman he likes. • 35. Persuasive Essay On The Confederate Statue The violence continues as statues keep coming down in America currently. My goal today is to explain why the confederate statue should stay or should be taken down everywhere in the United States. There is three Main points that I m going to states and defend in this Essay and tell you why I believe in them and there purposes. First why we need to keep them and not take them down. Second they will help educated the future people for the better. Last of all I think that we should keep the statues all the way and this is why. Why should we keep the statues you may ask, well there is no right or wrong answer for this topic but I will do my best to defend my point and belief of why these statues should not be torn down. The biggest reason I don t want these statues torn down is that it s not just a big piece of metal sitting there or a regular statue, these are statues that have history behind them over the years on when the south fought the north for a big turn for American history. People think they are racist or wrong, but really they show where we are from and what we are about. This Battle goes back to a massive shooting in 2015, when Dylan Roof shot nine people in a dominant black church in Charleston, SC. Thus starting of the Statues being taken down across America. How will this help the future for the better If someone that doesn t know what s going to history wise will most likely go with the majority and the majority isn t the best bet all the time so it is ... This can be attributed to the fact that Rodney Skinner is not the original Invisible Man. Skinner is a petty thief who stole the formula for invisibility and used it on himself. The biggest difference between Griffin and Skinner is their response to setbacks. In The Invisible Man Griffin has a terrible temper. When things don t go his way he lashes out or injures those who try to stop him. Skinner, on the other hand, has a very calm demeanor. After finding out that the League had been betrayed he didn t lash out; in fact he took that as an opportunity to prove himself as useful to the team. This difference is caused by Griffin and Skinner s motivations. At first Skinner used his invisibility as a way to become a better thief. Despite his primary intentions, Skinner began to use his invisibility for the greater good. Griffin however, wanted to use invisibility to gain recognition. It was ironic how he turned himself invisible so people would begin to notice him. Griffin s selfish behavior is made clear throughout The Invisible Man, especially towards the end. Griffin uses a man named Mr. Marvel as a pawn and puts the old man in danger in order to protect himself. We also find out that his selfish behavior started long before he became invisible. Chaos And Disorganization In Station Eleven When defining madness, people often point toward the words crazy or delusional, but when I think of madness, I think of a state of chaos and disorganization. To many characters in the book Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel, chaos is a part of life, especially after a man called the prophet is introduced into their lives. After a flu pandemic breaks out, ninety nine percent of the human population perishes. Without electricity, transportation, or a cure, the 1% of humanity that is left must either fight for supplies or work together. One man decides that the best way to get what he wants is to force it from people by murdering them, kidnapping their loved ones, or abusing them. He gains power through force and intimidation, while saying that he is good and that he and his people were saved not only to spread the light , but to be the light. After the soundtracks of the movie had been released, people started to know more about a culture of hip hop. The movie plot also makes it even more interesting. You are worn out from giving birth multiple times and you are desperate to know of a way to prevent yourself from having more children. This was the exact case for millions of women in the twentieth century. Women had no rights as a person, nor did they have any rights to their own bodies. In this era, the topics of sexuality, sex or birth controlwere all taboo subject matters and never discussed between married or un married couples. It wasn t until the year of 1912 that a woman by the name of Margaret Sangerstarted her crusade to promote the right for women to use contraceptives to prevent unwanted pregnancies. In this essay, I will discuss what inspired Margaret Sanger to stand up for birth control rights. I will also explore the trials and legal issues that Sanger came up against. Lastly, I will talk about the victory and the difference Sanger made for women in the twentieth century. Murphy Audie Leon Murphy was born on June 20, 1924 near Kingston, Texas, one of twelve children born to Emmett Berry Murphy and Josie Bell (Killian) Murphy (Simpson, n.d.). The Murphy family was a group of poor sharecroppers of Irish descent and Audie had to begin working at an early age to help support his family. Audie attended grade school in Celeste, Texas until the age of twelve, when his father abandoned the family in 1936. With less than a fifth grade education, Murphy left school and went to work full time as a farm laborer, hunter, store clerk and gas station attendant to support his family (Smith, 1960, p. 1). Audie might have lived the rest of his life as a lower income civilian if the Japanese had not bombed Pearl Harbor. • 47. Fences by August Wilson Throughout history, civilizations have built fences to keep enemies out and keep those they want to protect inside. In society today, people create metaphorical fences in order to fence in their feelings, while others create literal fences in order to keep the unwanted away. In the play Fences, the Maxon family lives in 1950 s America whose lovefor sports and one another are questioned at times when they need to be together the most. In the play Fences by August Wilson, two main characters Troy and Cory Maxon build a fence, literally and metaphorically, which as the book progresses, becomes a symbol that allows each character to truly understand each other. In Fences, Troy Maxon builds a fence around his property that contains metaphorical reasons as well as the literal meaning. During a conversation with Troy and Cory, Bono mentions the fence Troy is building for his wife Rose and says Some people build fences to keep people out...and other people build fences to keep people in. Rose wants to hold on to you all. She loves you (61). Bono explains this to Troy because Cory was unable to comprehend why Rose wanted the fence up in the first place. This opens the reader up to the symbolization of the fence itself. The fence allows Rose to keep Troy with her because she has loved him for so many years and does not want to let him go or leave her for another woman. Life has value, but death is not simply another thing that happens to human beings. Bigger s attitude gradually changes from not having a true meaning of life to having a true meaning of life. Reference to Elle Hearn s quote, who is a strategic adviser, said that, It s not just about changing laws, hearts, and minds, it s about actually changing action. From his perspective, he actually means to change the course of humanity for the better. In the novel, Bigger realizes that an action of changing life s meaning into something better helped him to change his own life. Although he couldn t acknowledge that he was an educated person, he still had the time to correct his mistakes and to put off death by living for others. The importance of the book and the article helped to draw attention to the main theme, which is reflecting the behavior of the white society and revealing its true meaning.
