How Did Odysseus Take Advantage Of The Trojan War
In Greek mythology there is a classic tale of the Trojan War. According to Homer s Illiad, the
Greeks besieged Troy for ten years without success. Subsequently after the death of the warrior
Achilles, many wanted to give up the fight. However the king of Ithaca, Odysseus, formulated a
strategy which would admit the Greek army access into the city of Troy. Odysseuserected an
immense wooden horse. He and his warriors hid inside it. Moreover, after leaving the horse at the
gates of Troy, the Greek army sailed away. The Trojans concluded that the Greeks had surrender
and left the horse as a gift to the gods. Therefore, the Trojans didn t want to anger the gods brought
the horse inside the gates.
Consequently that night, while the Trojans were

Erik Erikson s Social Stages Of Development
Erik Erikson was born in Germany to a Danish mother and three years later, a German stepfather.
He never knew his real father from Denmark. Growing up in Germany in a Jewish environment
was sometimes difficult for him because of his Nordic features among his brown eyes, brown
haired peers. Erikson was largely influenced by Sigmund Freud and expanded upon his Human
Development theory with his own, the Psych Social Stages of Development. Erikson moved to
America in 1933 with his family to Boston, becoming the first child analyst in that area at Harvard
Medical School. He taught other institutions such as Yale and UC Berkeley. During his long career,
he wrote about a variety of topics ranging from issues of race and sexuality to influential figures in
history.
Erikson s Psyco Social Stages of Development was extremely influential the field of developmental
psychology because it laid down stages for ages to come. There are eight stages that span the
human life expectancy. The first stage is called Trust vs. Mistrust, which deals with infants. The
infant is developing trust within the mother and parental figures and with that trust, stability is
either established or not. The mistrust that infants may develop comes from a lack of stability with
their caregivers. The second stage is Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt, between the ages of a year
and a half and three. Children are either encouraged or criticized by their parents as they seek
independence. The autonomy comes from being

Female Characters In Marie De France And The Wife Of Bath
In Lanval, the women characters revealed Marie de France s personal moral convictions and her
philosophical autonomy. Different female characters had role in her story such as the mythical
fairy women and the queen as she was demonstrated as manipulative and lustful because they used
their beauty and status for their personal benefit. Generally, Marie de Frances explained various
points such as beauty, love, and manipulation. Similarly, in The Wife of Bath, Geoffrey Chaucer
illustrates the significance of women role, yet they had a different power usage in persuading.
The women characters use alternative methods in expressing their role and empowerment that
have been illustrated extremely different in each of Lanval and The Wife of Bath tales. Marie de
France s demonstrated the fairy queen as a symbol for female empowerment when the fairy
queen said, I admonish you now, I command and beg you, do not let any man know about this. I
shall tell you why: you would lose me for good if this love were known; you would never see me
again or possess my body (Anthology, L 150, 124). She showed that the fairy queen was entitle as
the fairy queen highlighted the consequences of not keeping their relationship in secret from
everyone. Also, the fairy queen used the word command to show that she was entitled, yet she
followed it by the word beg you, she used indirect method to clarify it.
Moreover, in the tale it was illustrated by Marie de France s that the fairy queen preferred to
keep her information secret form Lanval. As Briscoe said, While namelessness, especially within
a narrative, implies a lack of identity and thus a lack of importance or relevance, Marie s fairy
queen uses it to her advantage (Briscoe, 24). In Most situations, providing shortage information
indicates to a lack of importance of the other thing or person. However, in this situation the fairy
queen is the one who wanted to be unknown and chose to provide short information to Lanval,
which revealed her power and control. Apparently, the fairy queen wanted to be control of their
relationship and she wanted to be in charge of their meetings. Marie de France s illustrated that the
king s being manipulated of by the queen, which was

It Is A Water Purification System
It is a hot 92 degrees fahrenheit, blistering sunny day the small communities of Amaya, Torencio,
and El Porvenir in Nicaragua. The dress code for guys: long pants, closed toed shoes, t shirt with
sleeves, and hats optional. The dress code for girls: pants or capris, closed toed shoes, crew neck
shirts with sleeves, and no tight fitting articles of clothing would be allowed. In the communities
tasks of digging a trench, installing a water purification system, home visits, and of course
playing with the kids were handed out. Work in the morning and play in the afternoon. Then the
team boarded two small buses/vans, and returned to a fairly nice hotel with a pool and dinner
awaiting. Then the nightly team debriefs and bed shortly after to do it again. Then before you
know it you are standing there surrounded by shouting kids, many hugs, the phrase adios said
between the sniffles of runny noses and tear streamed faces. Hundreds of pictures are being
taken to add to the thousands from the week all in hopes of getting that one picture or a few
memorable moments that will be on the picture slideshow. Then returning home is exhausting as
is trying to sleep during the layovers and rediscovering American food which you had a week
ago but it feels as if it has been weeks. The questions that are always asked are: what did you do?
what did you learn? how did you see God? The response frequently begins with the pronoun I and a

Religion In Mahatma Gandhi
Another trait Gandhi possessed due to his religion was courage. Mahatma Gandhi had no fear.
To Gandhi fearlessness was an imperative part of religion. He even described religion by saying,
Where there is fear there is no religion ( Young India, 2 9 26, 308). Further, Gandhi believed this
courage to follow one s beliefs improved all aspects of life. Gandhi once said, Religionwhich takes
no account of practical affairs and does not help to solve them, is no religion ( Young India, 7 5
25, 164). Religion to Gandhi required an effect on everyday life. Gandhi had no fear and
allowed religion to affect his daily affairs. This was imperative to the many radical movements
and ideas Gandhi proposed. When he founded the Natal Indian Congress at twenty five, he was a
tabula rasa: he tried out ideas which in an established political organization would have been
directly laughed at (Nanda, Shri B. R). However, due to his fearlessness, even when faced with
defeat, Gandhi pushed onwards. He stated, Defeat cannot dishearten me. It can only chasten me.
I know that God will guide me ( Young India, 3 7 24, 218). And by pushing onwards, Gandhi was
able to see change in India and change in the world. Furthermore, because of his faith in God,
Gandhi was not scared of other physical dangers. He stated, God saves me so long as He wants
me in this body. The moment His wants are satisfied, no precautions on my part will save me (
Bapu s Letters to Mira, 91). Gandhi wasn t afraid,

The Effects Of Video Games On The Video Game Industry Essay
2. Briefly, what are the network effects in the video game industry? The network effects in the
video game industry are derived from the console system that is sold to consumers. If a
company is able to increase penetration in this arena, though at cost/ below cost pricing or pull
created through the development of desirable content, it can potentially lock in the added value
of the video games sold for the system. Which is to say, the console locks in the network effects
in the industry and the games serve to reap the profits. The video games, however, may present
something of a challenge in that they can be somewhat easily replicated by competitors.
Nintendo used an encrypted chip system to reduce this possibility. 3. Describe and evaluate
Nintendo s strategy in each of the following areas. Why did Nintendo take the actions it did?
How did these affect the value created by the industry? How did they affect the portion of that
value Nintendo was able to capture? a.Pricing of consoles and games Nintendo s strategy for
pricing of consoles and games was to lock in the network effects consoles offered by pricing
them at or below cost and reaping profits by pricing video games at significant margin. Nintendo
took these actions because it knew that if consumers used the NES/ Famicom console, they would
be a captive audience for its higher margin video games which were necessarily more perishable
from a consumer taste perspective. This affected the value created by

How Charles Dickens’ Life Influenced Oliver Twist Essays
How Charles Dickens Life Influenced Oliver Twist
The range of his creative activity is, in the first place, limited to the world of his youth (Cecil
169). This quote explains many people. What has previously happened to a person has a
tremendous impact on them. It can affect their decisions, emotions, and life. The life of a person
can sometimes be seen quite easily through what they do. Artists often reveal what their life has
been like through the works that they create. The same can be said about writers. Events in
authors past often show up in his works. The above quote is, in fact, made in regard to Charles
Dickens.

Eventually, they saved him from the factory. Charles grew up and put himself through the
education he could manage to find. He got a job as a lawyer s apprentice, and then he worked as
a parliamentary reporter. Dickens began to do some freelance writings for several magazines. He
eventually became the editor of a magazine and an author of his own novels.
Throughout Dickens journey through life, the poor laws of Great Britain were closely
intertwined. The first major impact that his childhood experiences had on him was his exposure
to the factory system. The Industrial Revolution created large urban areas with a central factory
that employed most of the area s people. The factory was full of lower class people in unsanitary
conditions. In the days of Dickens factory experience the old poor laws were in effect. This
helped Dickens situation greatly. His father lived in a fairly nice and sanitary prison, and was
given time to find the money he owed. The old poor law system of giving aid to the poor helped to
save the Dickens family. When Dickens grew up and was a parliamentary reporter, the new poor
laws were about to be passed. Dickens realized that the new poor laws would bring doom to many
families. The new poor laws did not help the poor but worsened their condition in order to drive
them to work.

Myrtle Wilson And Jay Gatsby Monologue
Hi Mom,
Yesterday, there was a terrible accident that resulted in the death of three of my friends: Myrtle
Wilson, George Wilson, and Jay Gatsby. To explain the full story, I have to back up. Last month
was the first time I met my roommate Daisy. She s your classic girl next door: popular, beautiful,
and fun. All the guys in the local fraternities try to court her, and everytime we go out she s the one
that everyone is fascinated with. Although she s already married to this wealthy man named Tom
Buchanan, I could tell they were never happy with each other. The marriagewas clearly made for
money, and there were circulating rumors of his infidelity. Daisy hides behind a false facade of
innocence and purity. Initially, I was enticed by her beauty... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Daisy puts up with her husband s infidelity because of the benefits he provides, his background,

but there are moments when I see how sad and lonely she is, All right, I said, I m glad it s a girl.
And I hope she ll be a fool that s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool...
you see I think everything s terrible anyhow... I ve been everywhere and seen everything. (17) In a
society corrupted by greed and scandal, the best thing that one can hope for is to be too stupid to
realize what s actually going on and therefore not get hurt.
Oh, you want too much! she cried to Gatsby. I love you now isn t that enough? I can t help what s
past. She began to sob helplessly. I did love him once but I loved you too. (132).Gatsby has in love
with the old Daisy, the one uncorrupted by the evils of society.
When I came back to the penthouse this morning, Daisy was gone, along with all of her
possessions. The landlord said that Tom picked up Daisy the night before and paid the next year
s rent in cash if he kept quiet about their disappearance. Daisy never gave me a goodbye, not that
it would be sincere anyway. I guess like Gatsby, I ll never have closure.

Chemical Baggies Lab Report
Background: The Chemical Baggies Lab demonstrated to students how certain chemicals cause
diverse chemical or physical changes depending on what substances were mixed together in a
designed controlled experiment. During the process of this experiment, almost identical
observations were made about different combinations of chemicals that had at least one substance
in common. For example, the frequent observation that was made throughout the experiment was
that heat was felt. Even though there were distinct chemical combinations, there was one substance
that generated a certain observation or characteristic, such as a mixture has to comprise of the
phenol red for there to be a color change, which was learned from this lab. Also, calcium chloride...

Robber Barons In The Gilded Age
The Gilded Age, from 1877 to 1900, was a period in history that showed the vast changes in the
population and economy. However, underneath the surface of the seemingly improved society,
many people were victims of corruption and unstable living conditions. The wealthy industrialists of
the 19th century were rightfully named robber barons due to their low wages, unsafe working
conditions, and the treatment of children in the work force.
People such as John D. Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and Andrew Carnegie are known as
some of the major robber barons during the Gilded Age. Although they made major contributions
to the economy, they paid their workers unfair wages. In fact, most working class men were paid
very little, so they didn t have the option of a single income home (Child Labor in the Gilded
Age). Women and children were also sent to work to earn an income for their family, and often
that was barely enough to survive. While Carnegie amassed a fortune, steelworkers in his plants
labored 10 to 12 hours a day, six days a week, for about 15 cents an hour (Lapsansky Werner, 69).
These wages and working hours gives the robber barons their rightful name. Another reason that
these captains of industry were named robber barons was the ... Show more content on

were working in. People also worked extremely long hours. Men, women, and children were
employed in dangerous factories making glass, steel, or processed chemicals, and worked up to

The Harvard Referencing Style In Academic Literature
Introduction Referencing is one of the most important aspects of any academic literature in the
modern day scenario. It is the main way through which someone acknowledges the fact that they
have borrowed the ideas of someone else, and have used their work for citation ion their work.
There are several different kinds of referencing system among which the Harvard referencing
style is one of the most popular. The different aspects of the Harvard style along with the main
methods through which the style is implemented have been detailed and discussed. Herein, this
study is about the Harvard referencing style and detailing the actual point of referencing in the
first place. The Actual Point of Referencing Referencing is extremely important while compiling
an academic file, as it is the main method of showing acknowledgement to the authors of the
work which has been used for ideas in the said academic literature. A failure in this regard leads
to people developing the misconception that the author has cheated or plagiarised someone else
s work and is now claiming it as their own. Any kind of plagiarism is considered to be a serious
offence, especially in the academic circles. Being accused of the malpractice of plagiarism is one
of the worst hits that the reputation of a researcher can ever receive. Indeed, it is significantly
difficult to recover a proper reputation once accusations of this kind are made towards someone.
For students, being accused of the

In this case, these protocols to making tough decisions come in the form of Ethical Theories.
Having the templates in place to make decisions, allows nurse practitioners to have a series of
ethical and moral situations that they can run through in order to align their own personal values
with their professional ones. An example would be if a practitioner had a husband or wife who
was an inpatient; it would be unethical to go to the nurse s station to look over their spouse s chart.
Simply being married does not provide any special treatment without authorization signed by the
spouse (Erickson and Millar, 2005). C1. Explain the elements of the principle of confidentiality. The
elements of the principles of confidentiality can be broken down into four separate categories: (1)
Information provided by the patient is kept confidential unless consent from the patient has
otherwise been given unless it has direct legal implications or endangers the general public. (2)
Informed Consent: is given freely, because the correct information has been supplied and the patient
has sufficient information on the impacts involved. Information is otherwise given out on a need to
know basis. (3) Duty of Care: Information is given out in order to protect the safety and health of
others and the patient. Legal and general public health fall under this category. (4) Documenting

The Ethical Dilemma Faced With Performance Enhancing...
Ethical dilemmas are something that almost every person will face at various times in their life.
Often, even more than once. We were born sinners, so there are times people, even though knowing
right from wrong, struggle with making the right decision. How a person works through the
dilemmas they face are considerably influenced by their worldview. In this paper, we will look at
the ethical dilemma a student faces when confronted with performance enhancing drugs, Christian
worldview beliefs, and how different worldviews may handle the same dilemma.
Ethical Dilemma

When a person becomes selfish in wanting to win, over the moral truth of a situation, it becomes
more of a temptation every time the occasion arises. He would be considered dishonest and lose
his chances of ever going any further in the game. For the Christian worldview, Paul should want
to refuse that temptation, and glorify God in his playing by what he has accomplished, not by
what the drugs can do for him. Paul has the chance of ruining his reputation as a player. In
Proverbs it says, There are six things that the Lord hates (Proverbs 6:16), and one of those being, a
lying tongue (Proverbs 6:17, English Standard Version). If Paul wants to glorify God, he will think
twice before deciding to take the performance enhancing drugs.
Resolution
The best resolution for Paul to take according to the Christian worldview would explain to his
coaches and teammates that he is not comfortable taking the drugs. Although not illegal at the
moment, there is no telling when it could become illegal causes all players to be suspended, and it
is cheating. Cheating is not something the team or coaches should be proud of. Paul should let
them know that by them working hard individually, and as a team, would mean so more if they
win. If they lose, they would all know in their heart that they tried their very best, and can hold their
head high. In the Ten Commandments it says, Thou shall not steal (Exodus 20:15), and

The Theory Of Game Theory
Game theory is one to more complexed topics but reveals a clear understanding from different
scholars. Don Ross explained that game theory is the study that interacts with the different choices
of economics agents which bring forth many different outcomes with the point to the preferences of
those agents, where the outcomes in question might have been intended by none of the agents
(Ross, 2016). The properties that game theoryconsiders in economic situations include two or
more economic actors that is, two or more firms, individuals, political parties, etc. Each individual
economic actor has a set of decisions they can make what price to charge, how much to save,
whether to move right or left, etc. Each individual economic actor has a goal or payoff, such as
profit maximization, maximize happiness, minimize loss, etc.
The decisions made by one economic actor not only affects her payoff, but the payoff of one or
more other economic actors. Schmidt (2003) states that Game theory was invented in order to
satisfy a mathematical curiosity. The difficulty at the outset was to find a theoretical solution to the
problem posed by uncertainty in games of chance (Schmidt, 2003). He further stated that the first
completed formula of mathematical strategies was sketched by Boral. The application of game
theory to economics posed a more fundamental problem due to the distance of separating several
major concepts articulated in Theory of Games and Economic Behavior. Economics

Relationship between Exposure to PAH s and Insulin Resistance
1.Introduction
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are ubiquitous environmental toxic compounds with
fused aromatic rings, formed from incomplete combustion of carbon containing materials such as
coal and fossil fuels, cigarette smoking, and food cooking.1,2 Non occupational exposure routes
of PAHs include: inhalation airborne PAHs such as polluted air or cigarette smoking, ingestion
of PAH containing food such as charred and broiled meat, as well as dermal absorption.3,4 PAHs
can bioaccumulate through the food chain because of its nature of resistant to degradation.5 The
adverse health effects of PAHs have been widely studied recently mainly focusing on increasing
risks of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and a variety of cancers, including
respiratory, renal, and breast cancers.6 15 Recently, several studies suggested an association
between ambient air pollution and type 2 diabetes (T2DM), and ambient fine particulate matter

I m going to look at Band 2 within the professional area of Learning and Development. I think the
following 4 areas are most relevant, and in order, to my current role of Trainer at the British
Council:
6.4.2. Facilitate internal leaning events and workshops, delivering content as appropriate.
A major part of my role is the development and delivery of training materials. This involves a
degree of event and people management, but essentially I must be able to provide the knowledge
that the organisation needs in a digestible format.
6.11.2. Continually seek ways to improve learning and talent development activity to best meet
individual or managers requirements.
In a global organisation with a range of different needs and cultural approaches, flexibility from the
trainer is imperative, as is the need to change and adapt where required. It s important to address the
immediate but also longer term needs of learning and development across my organisation and
analyse these in tandem with HR and the teams themselves to develop a strategy for improvement
that fits in with the organisational, as well as team objectives.
6.9.1. Advise colleagues and managers on the best use of innovative learning technological
solutions to improve capability
For me, this is about keeping costs down. There is now a wealth of fantastic training

Analysis Of Songs Of Rebellion
Matthew Caruso Beverly Mitchell Arts Culture II April 6, 2017 Songs of Rebellion Smashing
anything from pumpkins to instruments, Rock Roll is a form of art with flare. Generations of
people from the 50 s to modern day have enjoyed a little bit of rebellion in their life. But while the
rebels continue to rage against the machine of society, that society is constantly changing. Different
issues become highlighted and more relevant as others fall to the wayside, but Rock music does
not stand by jovially. With constant adapting and innovating, Rock Roll always finds something to
scream about. The history of Rock begins around the 50 s, right off the cusp of World War II. The

By the end of the decade, however Rock was taken over by big business, and what used to be a
provocative sound turned into songs about teen appropriate issues such as school, parents,
young love, etc. By the end of the 50 s and beginning of the 60 s rock had somewhat died down
and become tamer. many thought it was dead until the mid 60 s. Rock Roll had a resurgence,
known as The British Invasion . While things had settled down in the US, England had been
inspired. Groups from Britain like the Rolling Stones and the Beatles brought a fresh style,
infusing British Rhythm and Blues and Jazz into what they played. This revival propelled the
genre down two different paths. Many groups came onto the scene and continued to make more of
the same teen appropriate pop style music. others pushed boundaries in an industry heavily
influenced by drugs, spawning the phrase, Sex, Drugs, and Rock Roll . The Beatles were at the
center of it all, experimenting with different sounds and instruments. Their experimentations
became part of a larger movement, known as psychedelic rock, which included the likes of Jimi
Hendrix and Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd was one of the first bands to use laser lights in their concerts.
What s more psychedelic than that? Hendrix even took it a step further, creating what many call
Acid Rock. Additionally, the Beatles were not just trendsetters with their music, but also with
fashion, sporting hair that was abnormally long for men at the

Essay On Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies
Novels usually tend to have a life lesson that the author has learned. The reader might have to
analyze the story to a deeper thought to find the literary devices used. The Lord of the Flies is all
about the origin of human characteristics, whether humanity is considered morally good or initially
evil, without laws or authority. The conch is one object that shows the theme of humanity. The
symbolism of the conch changes throughout the book. The symbolism of the conch is order,
democracy, social order, respect, and powerat the beginning of the book. At the end of the novel,
the conch loses its power and portrays savagery and barbarism. At the same time as the conch
loses its power and symbolism, Simon gets killed by the savagery of the boys. Piggy and the
conch gets crushed. The destruction of the conch symbolizes the destruction of what little
civilization the boys possessed. In the Lord of the Flies, there are specific symbols that reinforce...

Legal Evolution of the Exclusionary Rule Essay
The Constitution of the United States was designed to protect citizens civil rights from
infringement by the government and law enforcement agencies. The Constitution guarantees that
the civil liberties of the people of this country shall be respected and upheld. That fact is often
considered to be common knowledge and taken for granted by the vast majority of the population.
However it was not always that way. American legislation is constantly growing and developing.
New rules and practices are being developed and established. The exclusionary rule is considered to

Despite the overwhelming significance of the rights protected and guaranteed by the Fourth
Amendment, many questions and concerns existed regarding police and court procedures and
practices. The most important of those questions was whether or not illegally obtained evidence
could be used in courts. Before 1914, any evidence obtained by the police could be used in both
Federal and State courts, regardless of any constitutional violations that might have taken place
during the search and seizure of that evidence. Such practice has spawned multiple occurrences of
police misconduct. Before that date, many police officers did not follow constitutional
requirements. They could freely search individuals and households and seize evidence without
appropriate warrants. Needless to say, that such poor performance resulted in illegal arrests and
unjust prosecutions of innocent people. One of such cases had become a landmark and initiated the
long process of reforms in regard to the Fourth Amendment and police conduct. The Supreme Court
articulation of the exclusionary rule has come in Weeks v. United States case in 1914. That case has
changed the Fourth Amendment and related laws forever. The defendant, Mr. Freemont Weeks was
convicted based on the evidence illegally seized from him during the warrantless search. The appeal
was initiated by the defense attorney, thus bringing the case to the attention of the highest Court.

Home Schooling Is A Good Idea
You may be asking yourself, how did home schooling begin? What was it like? Well, in the 1970
s and the 1980 s home schooling began to spark. A few parents question whether public or
private school was right for their child. They were thinking they could do a better job. Well, what
do you know; parents learned they could do a better job. However, some states, prohibited home
schooling. If parents or guardians were home schooling, they could face jail time as well as losing
their children to the courts. Some parents were being arrested and some were taken to jail
(Homeschooling: Getting Started). Even today we have people who are against home schooling.
Our President of the United Stated, Obama, he doesn t believe home schooling is a good idea. He
believes public school should start as soon as age 3. He also said that students in middle and high
schoolshould complete 50 hours of community service before they are able to go to the next grade
level (Will Obama Use UN Policy to End Homeschooling in America?).
A crucial part of an education outside of the home is the interaction amongst the students that is
used to prepare them to have constructive engagements with fellow citizens when their schooling is
over. Interacting with other children who may be taught different belief systems and come from
different social economic statuses and religious or ethnic backgrounds prepare students for their

The Battles of Philippi
The Battles of Philippi (42 BCE):
The Death of the Roman Republic The battles of Philippi remain one of the best examples of
how audacity on the battlefield can influence history. The battles are the climax of the civil war
following the assassination of Gaius Julius Caesar in 44 BCE by a band of prominent political
figures of Rome; (led by Marcus Junius Brutus (Brutus) and Gaius Cassius Longina (Cassius))
who will be referred to in this paper as the Liberators . The Battles that occurred on the
Macedonian plains from the 1st 21st of October 42 BCE will clearly show that no matter the period
of history the battlefield considerations of Political, Military, Economic, Social, and Physical
Environment can be exploited to achieve victory. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Well situated on the high ground fortifications the Liberator forces could have simply outlasted the
forces of the Triumvirate. Pro Caesarian forces occupied low swampy coastal plain not well situated
to support a Roman army. In an attempt to overcome Triumvirate limitations, Mark Antony
constructed a causeway to support a troop movement to the Liberator s rear. Upon receiving
intelligence that Cassius had ordered a wall to be built cutting the causeway and isolating Mark
Antony from the field, Mark Antony seized the opportunity and attacked the Liberators (Appian,
2007). Using this technique Mark Antony forced Cassius hand and ultimately his suicide. The
Battles of Philippi hold many lessons that apply to today s battlefield. The clearest lesson is that
boldness will carry the day. By seizing the initiative Mark Anthony overcame disadvantages of
terrain and logistics. His unpredictable actions led to the deaths of the two men that posed the
largest threat to the Triumvirate. By understanding the effect of shock, the value of initiative, and
courage the Triumvirate commanders would carry the day. Mark Antony s understanding of enemy

How Did Calculus Contribute To The Development Of Europe
There was an unexpected explosion in the math and science world in the 17th century across
Europe, known as the Age of Reasoning. Scientists such as Galileo, Brahe and Kepler continued to
increase our knowledge on mathematics and science, especially the solar system which led to
Kepler s laws of planetary motion. Isaac Newtonalso discovered the laws of physics explaining
Kepler s Laws, and brought together the concepts now known as calculus. The invention of the
logarithm by John Napier contributed to the advances of scienceand astronomy and was one of the
most significant developments of this time. Rene Descartes development of analytical geometry
and Cartesian coordinates allowed the orbits of the planets to be plotted. Other mathematicians such
as Fermat and Pascal formulated theorems which extended our knowledge on number theory. Pascal
is most famous for his Pascal triangle even though similar figures had been done by the Chinese and
Persian mathematicians before him. Newton and Leibniz revolutionized mathematics by
developing infinitesimal calculus. Much more credit should be given to many other
mathematicians at this time, but as said before, this was a time of severe increase in mathematics
and these are only a few of the most important discoveries. (15)... Show more content on

When conducting the research for my survey, I will be studying the political preference of
people in correlation to the political preference of the town they grew up in. For example, a
person is more likely to be a Republican if they originate from a Republican dominated town. The
independent variable, the variable whose variation does not depend on the other, that will be
studied is political preference of the participant: Republican, Democratic or Independent. A person s
political preference can have many conceptual definitions. It can mean the person lives a certain
lifestyle, or they have views on policy and how the government should run. It can also determine
stereotypical characters as about the person themselves. Moreover, the... Show more content on

Republican values on me throughout my childhood. 1 = Extremely Disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 =

The hypothesis of this study is people are more likely to be a specific political party depending on
the majority of the political preference of the participant s hometown. There is a positive
relationship between the two variables of the person s political preference and their hometown s
political preference. This type of research and survey has drawn a lot of attention from the media
with the current 2016 Presidential Election between now President Donald J. Trump and Senator
Hillary Clinton. This election had a much stronger impact on the population of the United States
both mentally and emotionally. Through general knowledge and evidence, the media made an
abundant amount of traction on how numerous statisticians and pollers predicted Clinton to win the
election by a landslide. In the end, they were wrong as Trump won the presidency. It is important to
understanding how to determine if someone is a Republican or Democratic and their voting
patterns to correctly predict future outcomes of elections. Similarly, I have predicted this proposed
hypothesis based on the assumption that children gain traits like their parents. If parents impose
political beliefs, it could affect the child and what they grow up to believe. Certain traits and

Greed And Consumerism
Greed (for the lack of a better word) is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts
through and captures the essence of evolutionary spirit . Gordan Gekko from Wall Street says that
whilst greed is good, our environment conjectures otherwise. The rise of greed and modern human
culture has helped facilitate aspects of consumerism by creating a desperation for more. More
friends, more food, more clothes, more money, more dreams. Entirely based around the concept of
lust, selfishness and envy, consumerism helps appeal to the mass s most primal desires, exchanging
a person s rationality for emotional investment. Experts now aver that all of humanhistory has come

At this present moment, the standard of consumption had dramatically increased at an
unprecedented rate, to the point where sources have zero time to replenish in order to coincide
with the rate of consumption. It is predicated that in order to sustain a single Western s lifestyle, 4
6 hectares of land is need per person.
Thinking back to other environmental issues, consumerism is at the cornerstone of approximately
60 80% of all environmental impacts experienced today. We have water scarcity because of the
overuse of clean drinking water in western societies and pollution levels in aquatic environments,
we have fast fashion because westerners want unethically made and poorer quality clothing
articles made at a faster rate than ever before, and deforestation? You guessed it, because we want
our land to undergo urbanisation so that we can make more goods to consume and to live out the
American dream. And for what? The latest and greatest? Or So that we can feel a sense of
superiority over others?
This looming consumer demand has been the originator of multiple ecological imbalances that can
be seen around the world. Consumerism is heavily linked with environmental degradation. A
process where high levels of consumption and production require larger inputs of energy and
therefore increasing the quantity of waste products. This means that there will come a time when
the earth can not support it s own functioning. A

The Bible As Tool For Guide Them Throughout Their...
In the Seventh day Adventist church uses the Bible as tool to guide them throughout their Christian
lives. The Bible teaches beliefs that the Christian are expected to follow and apply to their lives.
Along with following these beliefs, Christians are expected to teach these beliefs as well, so that
future generations may carry them out and be a positive example of the church. One the beliefs is
the trinity. In Ephesians 4:4 6 it is written that There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were
called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism: one Godand Father of
all, who is over all and through all and in all . There is one God, who in Himself is the Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit; the unity of the three; Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one
(Deuteronomy 6:4). The trinity is God, who is immortal, all knowing, and above all. God is all
powerful, love, worth of our worship, ever present, and who created everything. In 2 Corinthians
13:14 May the grace of the Lord JesusChrist, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy
Spirit be with you all , explaining that the trinity, who carries multiple characteristics, is with us to
guide us. Another belief is the creation. In Isaiah 45: 18 it is written that For this is what the Lord
says he who created the heaves, he is God; he would fashion and made the earth; he who fashioned
and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited

The Rebirth Of Ancient Cultures

The Rebirth of Ancient Cultures in Renaissance Florence Florence, Italy is known as the cradle of
the Renaissance (la culla del Rinascimento). It is a city full of beautiful architecture, art, and
history. The Renaissance was a powerful cultural movement that not only shaped all aspects of
Florentine life, but eventually the rest of Europe. Science, art, literature, philosophy, religion,
architecture, and politics have seen heavy influences by this movement. The term Renaissance
literally means rebirth : the rebirth of man and the rebirth of two important ancient cultures, Greek
and Roman, which had been lost with the beginning of the Middle Ages in Western history. Florence
was very prosperous during the late Middle Ages, next to Venice and Milan. It was the birthplace of
many important thinkers, artists, architects, and political figures who led the Renaissance. Along
with the birth of the philosophy of humanism, the rebirth of ancient Greek and Roman cultures
were driven by a revived interest in ancient thought, the advances in literature, the emphasis of
human based ideals in the arts, and the influence of the papacy and the Holy Roman Empire upon
the Florentine government. Italian thinkers had an interest in the ways that ancient Greeks and
Romans thought, a driving force of the Renaissance. It was the Florentines who first set out to
rediscover the glorious past of these cultures. They strongly believed

The Self Evaluation Scales Assessment
Situation 1
I am not a very confident person when it comes to dealing with people who I do not know well
(introversion), thus I would have a harder time dealing with situation 2 compared to situation 1. I
have average emotionality in my HEXACO and low sensitivity to criticism from the Self
Evaluation Scales assessment, so I would typically be reasonably receptive to negative feedback.
However, I have low agreeableness, which indicates that I am likely to feel anger in response to
perceived mistreatment.
In this relationship, I, as the employee, would be much more likely to genuinely respect my
boss, thus the power he has over me would be a combination of legitimate power, expert power,
and referent power. Research suggests that these bases of power are most effective and
positively correlate to employee satisfaction (Robbins Judge, 2008). Since he has my respect, I
would believe that he is less affected by bias, and trust that he would put aside his emotions in a
professional environment and treat me fairly. I would therefore seriously take his feedback into
consideration, as I know that he gives feedback in the hope that I would do better next time. I
would also have the courage to explain my point of view of the situation, as I know that my boss
would listen. Feedback would therefore be given and received more effectively, since the
communication process would be smoother, with less noise and interference.
However, one potential issue with this kind of workplace

Wisdom is not a product of schooling, but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it. These immortal
words were spoken by one of the greatest thinking minds in recent history none other than Albert
Einstein. Many thinkers throughout history have picked up on this discrepancy between
knowledge and wisdom, despite the two words often being used interchangeably in everyday life.
The divide between knowledgeand wisdomis excellently portrayed in the novel Siddhartha written
by Hermann Hesse, in which the main character Siddhartha s journey to find inner peace leads him
through the theme of wisdom and knowledge being obtained differently. In Siddhartha, many

With that, Siddhartha sets off with a new mission: to live. Along this newfound path toward

Fortunato Short Story Analysis
This story by Edgar Allan Poe is one of premeditated murder. Montresor tells the story of the
night when he took his revenge on Fortunato, his friend. Montresor is upset about a long term
insult between his family and Fortunato s because Montresor says: Thousand injuries that he
has suffered at the hands of Fortunato . He plots to murder his friend during carnival, an event
that is usually represented by joy. Montresor chooses the exact moment when the man is drunk
and not in his correct mind. Montresor tricks Fortunato into the catacombs to try a wine and
eventually seals Fortunato within the catacombs to die. The story s setting describes one
closely related to horror, as Poe causes the readers to predict, to fear, and tremble in the opening.
The atmosphere of horror increases much more as Montresor describes his adventure with
Fortunato into the vaults. There are several examples of verbal irony within Montresor s words.
Montresor says one thing that has more than one meaning. Early on, Montresor gives
demanding orders to his attendants, not to leave the house, knowing that this will ensure that
they would. More than once in the writing we can see Montresor calling Fortunato his friend,
while taking him to death. Fortunato says that his cough will not kill him. A cough won t kill
me , he says, and Montresor replies, True, true . This quote is probably the most memorable line
of the story because he was sure that the cause of his death would not be his cough. Verbal irony
along with dark humor seems to fill the whole story. It kind of baffles the reader to think one can
be so blindsided into falling for some of the things Montresor has set up for Fortunato s fate.
Many times verbal irony has more than one meaning which makes this story as great as it is. In
Montresor s last words there is the last example of irony, it happened when Montresor realized
that his friend had finally passed. He called Fortunato s name repeatedly, with no answer.
Montresor threw his torch into the small hole and it fell into Fortunato s place of death. His last
words to his friend were In pace requiescat, which means rest in peace. The irony can be
interpreted in two ways, one is Montresor wishing his friend to rest in

The Parthenon, once a magnificent work of art, has long been an archeological ruin with pieces of
the sculptures that were once a part of it on display in many European museums and, of course, in
Greece. Those locations other than Greece have been the center of a long going debate regarding
whether the sculptures should remain in those places or if they should be sent back to whence they
came. The sculptures are a part of Greek history, and they were once attached to The Parthenon,
created as a temple for Greek goddess Athena. Greece should have the right to put all their pieces
from this creation on display in their own museums and buildings. The marbles began in Greece,
and they should end up back in Greece as well. The area on which the Parthenon was built was
not always a barren rock hill. The area surrounding the Parthenon used to be a village complete
with houses and gardens. It was like this until the 1830s when the Greeks won their war for
independence from Turkish rule. There was then a new ascension to the throne by a Bavarian
Prince named Otto. He wanted to find a way to showcase symbols of patriotism in a country that
was starting anew at the end of the war. Because of this, the area around the Parthenon is now The
Acropolis hill, which is no longer a village, rather it is a hill with many monuments and sculptures

notes with the initials of the place that houses the pieces, most of the initials are BM (Newsweek

The Many Personalities of Lolita and Humbert in Nabokov’s...
The Many Personalities of Lolita and Humbert in Nabokov s Lolita
Although they are intimately involved, the title character of Nabokov s Lolita never fully reveals
her true self to Humbert. Likewise, Humbert pours his physical love into Lolita, but he never
reveals to his stepdaughter a self that is separate from his obsession with her. These two characters
mask large parts of their personalities from each other and the rest of the world, creating different
images and personas in regard to different people and situations. One assumption of post
structuralism holds that persons are culturally and discursively structured, created in interaction as
situated, symbolic beings. In accordance with this idea that people are created by ... Show more

In other words, a person is formed only by their communication and interactions with other people,
and there is no concrete self, but many rambling and incoherent identities. This assumption has
three main ideas, but only two of which will be mentioned here.
The first idea is that subjects are created through their cultural meanings and practices and that they
hold many different culturally based sites of meaning that each contain a different configuration of
the self, and that also contain all the personal and societal characteristics that go along with each
self (Lye 1). This idea claims that in every situation the person develops a different and separate
self. This is true for a certain extent in speaking of Humbert and Lolita s separate personas that
emerge in different situations. They show different identities to the public, to each other, and to
themselves.
Humbert s various faces are quite different from each other. He is seen as a suave, sophisticated,
handsome man to the public, and to even his wife, Charlotte, who describes him as having a dark,
romantic, European way (68). His old world reticence and sense of decorum dominate the image
of a refined man that the people of American see in him (68). He is viewed as a devoted husband
and father, and as an intellectual. Although he spurs the

The Prolonged Identity Crisis Economic Difference of East and West Germany
In February of 1945, the Nazi Germans got defeated and soon surrendered to the allied powers.
Germany s nation was split between the four allied powers: United States, Great Britain, Soviet
Union, and France. In addition, the capital city of Berlin was also divided amongst the Allied
Powers into four sections. However, tensions among the Western Powers and Soviet Union caused
a shift into a Cold War. In 1949, Germany and the city of Berlin got divided into two nations in
which became known as the West and East Germany. West Germany is known as the Federal
Republic of Germany (FRG) and is supported by the three Western Powers. East Germany is known
as the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and is governed by the Soviet Union. The Western
Powers and the Soviet Union created different philosophy within the territories that they governed.
Each of the territory has its own identity, economy outlook, and lifestyle.
East Germany and West Germany struggles to identify their social identity because of the
reconstruction of the German society guided by the Western Powers and Soviet Union. The GDR
was closely monitored by the Soviets and FRG was overseen by the Western Powers. As tensions
increased more and more during the Cold War, the major powers sought to form a national identity
to the divide not only Germany, but also the people. The German

Pseudo-Xenophon And The Athenian Democracy
Government is a form of political structure that rules over a group of specific people and while
stability is important, in most societies government is fluid in its form and changes over time. As
different forms of government take power, typically the laws will favor one demographic over
another. While the Athenian democracyfavored the masses, oligarchic sympathizers like Pseudo
Xenophon, displayed their discontent with it. In his negative critique of Athenian democracytitled
The Constitution of the Athenians, Pseudo Xenophon supports the oligarchic system over the
democratic one, yet still maintains a respect for the Athenian s democracy as he comments on its
longevity and stability. His commentary contrasts with the funeral oration that Pericles gave during
a public funeral, where Pericles praises the strength of the Athenian democracy and its
perseverance regardless of a plethora dead during the Persian Wars. Despite the differences, both as
Pseudo Xenophon and Pericles appeal to the political ideals of their audience while at the same time
maintaining their own political beliefs.
The true author of the fifth century work titled The Constitution of the Athenians is unknown,
hence its attribution to Xenophon, and then Pseudo Xenophon. Whomever the author is, the
timeline of the written work aligns with the period right after Pericles death . However, there are
several speculations about his social status, which may play a role in his negative criticism of the

Fruitvale Station Essay
Fruitvale Station is a 2013 American drama film written and directed by Ryan Coogler. It is
based on the true story of the events leading up to the death of Oscar Grant, a young man who
was wrongfully shot at the Fruitvale Bay area train station in Oakland, California. The plot and
the writing dramatizes all the things that he did before he died. It shows that before he was a
black male, he was also a human being. He impacted a lot of peoples lives, and his death would
leave a hole in a lot of peoples hearts. The movie begins with Oscar, and his girlfriend dropping
of their daughter, Tatiana at daycare. Oscar s mom s birthday is that day, and they are going to a
family party later that night. Oscar goes to the grocery store to pick up... Show more content on

I love the progression of the plot, it showed the life of Oscar and all that he did. I like that they
showed his compassion and love for others. For example, accepting to pay for his sisters rent,
even though he had no job, or staying with the dog until he died. All that showed how he wasn t
just some bum on the street, or somebody who has no future. He is a father, he pays his rent, he is
a son. We know that he doesn t want to go to prison again, because that would take him away from
his daughter and girlfriend. The cop shot him without a second thought, proving that his life did not

Wilbur Wright invented The Wright Flyer on December 17,1903 in Kitty Hawk,North Carolina.
They went to Kitty Hawk because it had strong winds. In 59 seconds it flew 852 feet in the air.
To make the airplane they tested birds on how they flew and they angled there wings. They
invented the airplane because they heard of a German glider pilot Otto Lilienthal and he died in a
glider crash and The Wright Brothers were wanting to decide to start experimenting about flying in
1899. The Wright brothers did not have any money to make the Wright flyer. They also invented

The Immigration Reform And Control Act
In the present day United States, we face many disputes. One of the big issues is immigration.
Although many oppose so it, the historical experience of legalization under the 1986 immigration
reform and control act, has indicated that a comprehensive immigration reform would raise wages,
increase consumption, create jobs, and generate additional tax revenue, therefore in actuality really
beneficial to the to the U.S.(Hinojosa Ojeda). The fact is that nearly all unauthorized migrants still
eventually succeed in entering the U.S despite tens billions of dollars spent to reinforce borders,
which has caused commotion(Hinojosa Ojeda). Decisions taken by the government upon this issue

perpetuate unauthorized migration and exert downward pressure on already low wages, and
toward a virtuous cycle of worker empowerment in which legal status and labor rights exert
upward pressure on wages (Hinojosa Ojeda). Illegals work under wage. Federal agent s raided
60 Walmart stores in 21 states rounded up more than 250 illegal immigrants who were janitors in
2003. Low skilled immigrants have helped drive down low end wages (Akst). A more forward
looking approach that puts all workers on a legal, even footing offers opportunity for a costless
stimulus to the local economy that improves fiscal balances in the short term and lays the
foundation for robust , just and widespread growth (Hinojosa Ojeda). Legalizing currently
unauthorized immigration and creating flexible legal limits on future immigrating in the context of
full labor rights would raise wages, increase consumption, create jobs , and generate additional tax
revenue and increased consumer purchasing power, which benefits the public treasury and the U.S.
economic growing. When it comes to potential global power and influence, numbers can matter a

Equilibrium Constant Lab
Determination of an Equilibrium Constant Joseph Denning Group Participants: Maycie Hestand,
Austin Prinkki, Kellen Wright Meeting Time: Friday 10:00 AM TA: Hannah Colmer Date: 26
February 16 Introduction In this lab, the equilibrium constant is determined for the following
reaction between iron cations and thiocyanate anions: Fe3+ (aq) + SCN (aq) в‡Њ FeSCN2+. First
of all, equilibrium is the balance of the macroscopic variables in a reaction; they don t change over
time. The reaction still takes place, but the rates of the forward and backward reactions are equal.1
The equilibrium constant for the reaction in this experiment is K_c=[FeSCN^(2+) ]/([Fe^(3+)

The actual value for the equilibrium constant of this reaction was within the range of 200 250.
Our calculated value was fairly far off, with between 25 56% error. It is clear that the
experimental data has error, as evidenced by the R2 value of .3092. It should be noted that if
results from the fourth, fifth, and sixth addition of 1 mL of Fe(NO3)3 are omitted in Figure 1, the
R2 jumps to .8451 and the equilibrium constant is 238.1, well within the desired

Chemical Weapons
Chemical Weapons Weapons of Mass Destruction
Chemical weapons and their use is one of the most important issues facing the world today. Not
only is the use of such weapons highly controversial, but also the very idea of such weapons of
mass destruction being in the hands of dangerous leaders. Next to nuclear weapons they are the
most feared, and the prospect of these weapons not only concerns people, but also frightens them.
As a result of these fears, America has entered a new war that could bring devastating effects upon
our world. It is a very sensitive topic among many countries, and is out of hand primarily because of
the introduction of chemical weapons to the world in the First World War. Many people have the
same feelings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example is how they were used on our campus in 1999 and this year. These types of
chemicals are not the problem though. Chemical weapons such as mustard gas, sarin, and
anthrax are becoming increasingly feared. During the first major use of chemical weapons in
World War I, there was a death toll of 1.3 million. These deaths were caused single handedly by
chemical weapons, and primarily by mustard gas. Tim Cook stated if the war had continued for
yet another year it would have indeed been called the First Chemical War (A Short History of
Chemical Weapons 21). Before such weapons, soldiers had a better chance of staying alive if they
were skilled enough.
Following the war, most countries decided that these types of weapons would only be used in
special circumstances and not as a main stream military weapon. World War II was a prime
example when hardly any chemical weapons were used at all. Although that was the case, both
sides still had the ability to release very large amounts of many different chemical weapons. After
World War II, the use of chemical weapons by our military was dropped.
Most chemical weapons lead to tragedies, not only to humans but also the natural environment.
Chemical weapons do not only affect human population but they also effect animals and plants.
They can also lead to contamination of water and crops in and around the areas of their use. In
some respects they are quite similar to

Annie Clark Masseduction Essay
On Friday the 13th, indie art rock singer songwriter St. Vincent, aka Annie Clark, released her fifth
album Masseduction despite the unlucky date, Clark s album is anything but inauspicious. With a
new level of intimacy in both her music and lyrics, combinations of funk tinged guitar and
harmonically rich cinematic crescendos, Masseduction is a cerebral pop album full of anthemic
personal revelations. From start to finish of Masseduction s thirteen tracks, Clark traverses
through kinky sex games, leaving and being left behind, and speaks to all things greater by singing
about herself. Masseduction opens with Hang On Me , with a pulsating beat, soft violins bells and
Clark s airy, unearthly voice singing what sounds like a drunken... Show more content on

It s arguably the banger of the album and less of a social commentary than a sneak peeks into a
troubled part of St. Vincent s life, according to Clark herself. Next, comes the title song:
Masseduction . In a recent interview, Clark claimed that Masseduction could essentially be the
thesis for the album with its tagline I can t turn off what turns me on . With breathy moans and
sinister guitars that conjure up visions of nails digging up and down someone s back, the words
seduction and destruction are not so subtly sung interchangeably simultaneously poking fun at the
song s overt sexuality and yet highlighting underlying darkness. Similar story with Savior ; Clark
s lyrics describe various kinks and role playing situations (accompanied by Prince meets Nine
Inch Nails electronic drums and slinky guitar), but then spirals into high pitched pleading
bookended by Clark commenting in a voice both lamenting and matter of fact: they call me a
strange girl, they speak to me in bruises. I got em tryin to save the world, they said, girl, you re not

Art And Its Impact On Arts
Art Enriches Art does not solve problems, but makes us aware of their existence, sculptor
Magdalena Abakanowicz has said. The ability to express oneself with arts has been not only
therapeutic but educational. Arts learning can improve motivation, confidence, and teamwork.
Art can encompass many different activities .Being a New Orleanian we are surrounded by all
types of art. We don t always take advantage of this rich cultural and sightsee all the city has to
offer. That is why after years of living here I have decided to explore. I stop by the Saenger
Theatre located on Canal Street. According to the Saenger official website, the Saenger Theatre
opened on February 4, 1927. This source claims the theatre took three years to build and cost
$2.5 million. The building is such a staple on Canal. Before its renovation in 2013, the outside of
it looked like something I could pass up easily especially during the daytime. Now as I walked
on the sidewalk. I see on the outside of the building a timeline of historical events. I could not
help admiring the facts posted around the building. They were vibrant colored pictures detailing
some facts about the Saenger and some fascinating historical events. A notable picture talks about
the first talkie to debut at the Saenger which was Lights of New York. Walking inside I feel a high
class aura that also feels welcoming. High extravagant ceilings was one of things I noticed in the
lobby.

My Life Changing Experience At The Doctor s Office
I walk through the doors with my mom. I hear crying, little kids throwing tantrums and moms
telling their kids everything would be fine. The nurses walking around with files and stethoscopes
around their necks. I was officially at the doctor s office. I had checked in and sitting in pain with
all these noises going on, thinking that it would be just a regular visit. But little did I know, from
that day on it would be a life changing experience to my identity.
My whole life s been a chase, it s a gift and a curse. Was on my way up to the top then slipped into
reverse. I was at the doctor s office for a messed up shoulder. Not thinking he would say anything
about getting older. They had me sit patiently in pain while they were scanning away my arm to
see what was the cause of all this. The doc showed me the x rays and said you ll be fine, it s just a
frozen shoulder blade. But do you see this here ? I immediately said yeah like, what is it? He
points his finger at the x ray and tells me what no 18 year old, 5 foot 5 boy that is playing
hockey wants to hear, you re done growing. My stiffened like I had seen a ghost. My heart had
stopped like something was stuck in my throat. I could feel the rapids of water hit the dam
behind my eyes and when I stepped outside, that dam broke. I couldn t hold the tears back. The
rest of the night I would stay awake in my bed and keep telling myself from that point on, I swear
I would go on my grind mode.
Three weeks go by and I m fully charged

Fred s Applicability Case Study
The report aimed to discuss whether Fred is a resident of Australia and should be taxed from all
sources of income or only from income sourced in Australia. Applicable case law and legislation
were presented to support the evaluation.
ITAA 1997 Section 995 1 provides that the meaning of an Australian resident is defined in ITAA
1936 Section 6 (1), which sets out different criteria for determining the residency of individuals
and companies. There are four tests to ascertain that an individual is a resident or not. An
individual need only to satisfy one of these tests to qualify as a resident for tax purposes. These tests
are the ordinary concept test, the domicile test, the 183 day day test and the superannuation test.
To assist in determining the residence of a person under the ordinary concept, the following factors
need to be considered: physical presence in Australia; if the person is a visitor, the frequency,
regularity and duration of visits; the purpose of the visits to Australia and abroad; the maintenance
of a place of abode in Australia for the taxpayer s use; the person s family business and social ties;
and the person s nationality.
In the case of Levene v IRC, the House of Lords agreed that the taxpayer ... Show more content on

  • 2. How Did Odysseus Take Advantage Of The Trojan War In Greek mythology there is a classic tale of the Trojan War. According to Homer s Illiad, the Greeks besieged Troy for ten years without success. Subsequently after the death of the warrior Achilles, many wanted to give up the fight. However the king of Ithaca, Odysseus, formulated a strategy which would admit the Greek army access into the city of Troy. Odysseuserected an immense wooden horse. He and his warriors hid inside it. Moreover, after leaving the horse at the gates of Troy, the Greek army sailed away. The Trojans concluded that the Greeks had surrender and left the horse as a gift to the gods. Therefore, the Trojans didn t want to anger the gods brought the horse inside the gates. Consequently that night, while the Trojans were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Erik Erikson s Social Stages Of Development Erik Erikson was born in Germany to a Danish mother and three years later, a German stepfather. He never knew his real father from Denmark. Growing up in Germany in a Jewish environment was sometimes difficult for him because of his Nordic features among his brown eyes, brown haired peers. Erikson was largely influenced by Sigmund Freud and expanded upon his Human Development theory with his own, the Psych Social Stages of Development. Erikson moved to America in 1933 with his family to Boston, becoming the first child analyst in that area at Harvard Medical School. He taught other institutions such as Yale and UC Berkeley. During his long career, he wrote about a variety of topics ranging from issues of race and sexuality to influential figures in history. Erikson s Psyco Social Stages of Development was extremely influential the field of developmental psychology because it laid down stages for ages to come. There are eight stages that span the human life expectancy. The first stage is called Trust vs. Mistrust, which deals with infants. The infant is developing trust within the mother and parental figures and with that trust, stability is either established or not. The mistrust that infants may develop comes from a lack of stability with their caregivers. The second stage is Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt, between the ages of a year and a half and three. Children are either encouraged or criticized by their parents as they seek independence. The autonomy comes from being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Female Characters In Marie De France And The Wife Of Bath In Lanval, the women characters revealed Marie de France s personal moral convictions and her philosophical autonomy. Different female characters had role in her story such as the mythical fairy women and the queen as she was demonstrated as manipulative and lustful because they used their beauty and status for their personal benefit. Generally, Marie de Frances explained various points such as beauty, love, and manipulation. Similarly, in The Wife of Bath, Geoffrey Chaucer illustrates the significance of women role, yet they had a different power usage in persuading. The women characters use alternative methods in expressing their role and empowerment that have been illustrated extremely different in each of Lanval and The Wife of Bath tales. Marie de France s demonstrated the fairy queen as a symbol for female empowerment when the fairy queen said, I admonish you now, I command and beg you, do not let any man know about this. I shall tell you why: you would lose me for good if this love were known; you would never see me again or possess my body (Anthology, L 150, 124). She showed that the fairy queen was entitle as the fairy queen highlighted the consequences of not keeping their relationship in secret from everyone. Also, the fairy queen used the word command to show that she was entitled, yet she followed it by the word beg you, she used indirect method to clarify it. Moreover, in the tale it was illustrated by Marie de France s that the fairy queen preferred to keep her information secret form Lanval. As Briscoe said, While namelessness, especially within a narrative, implies a lack of identity and thus a lack of importance or relevance, Marie s fairy queen uses it to her advantage (Briscoe, 24). In Most situations, providing shortage information indicates to a lack of importance of the other thing or person. However, in this situation the fairy queen is the one who wanted to be unknown and chose to provide short information to Lanval, which revealed her power and control. Apparently, the fairy queen wanted to be control of their relationship and she wanted to be in charge of their meetings. Marie de France s illustrated that the king s being manipulated of by the queen, which was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. It Is A Water Purification System It is a hot 92 degrees fahrenheit, blistering sunny day the small communities of Amaya, Torencio, and El Porvenir in Nicaragua. The dress code for guys: long pants, closed toed shoes, t shirt with sleeves, and hats optional. The dress code for girls: pants or capris, closed toed shoes, crew neck shirts with sleeves, and no tight fitting articles of clothing would be allowed. In the communities tasks of digging a trench, installing a water purification system, home visits, and of course playing with the kids were handed out. Work in the morning and play in the afternoon. Then the team boarded two small buses/vans, and returned to a fairly nice hotel with a pool and dinner awaiting. Then the nightly team debriefs and bed shortly after to do it again. Then before you know it you are standing there surrounded by shouting kids, many hugs, the phrase adios said between the sniffles of runny noses and tear streamed faces. Hundreds of pictures are being taken to add to the thousands from the week all in hopes of getting that one picture or a few memorable moments that will be on the picture slideshow. Then returning home is exhausting as is trying to sleep during the layovers and rediscovering American food which you had a week ago but it feels as if it has been weeks. The questions that are always asked are: what did you do? what did you learn? how did you see God? • 6. Religion In Mahatma Gandhi Another trait Gandhi possessed due to his religion was courage. Mahatma Gandhi had no fear. To Gandhi fearlessness was an imperative part of religion. He even described religion by saying, Where there is fear there is no religion ( Young India, 2 9 26, 308). Further, Gandhi believed this courage to follow one s beliefs improved all aspects of life. Gandhi once said, Religionwhich takes no account of practical affairs and does not help to solve them, is no religion ( Young India, 7 5 25, 164). Religion to Gandhi required an effect on everyday life. Gandhi had no fear and allowed religion to affect his daily affairs. This was imperative to the many radical movements and ideas Gandhi proposed. When he founded the Natal Indian Congress at twenty five, he was a tabula rasa: he tried out ideas which in an established political organization would have been directly laughed at (Nanda, Shri B. R). However, due to his fearlessness, even when faced with defeat, Gandhi pushed onwards. He stated, Defeat cannot dishearten me. It can only chasten me. I know that God will guide me ( Young India, 3 7 24, 218). And by pushing onwards, Gandhi was able to see change in India and change in the world. Furthermore, because of his faith in God, Gandhi was not scared of other physical dangers. He stated, God saves me so long as He wants me in this body. The moment His wants are satisfied, no precautions on my part will save me ( Bapu s Letters to Mira, 91). Gandhi wasn t afraid, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Effects Of Video Games On The Video Game Industry Essay 2. Briefly, what are the network effects in the video game industry? The network effects in the video game industry are derived from the console system that is sold to consumers. If a company is able to increase penetration in this arena, though at cost/ below cost pricing or pull created through the development of desirable content, it can potentially lock in the added value of the video games sold for the system. Which is to say, the console locks in the network effects in the industry and the games serve to reap the profits. The video games, however, may present something of a challenge in that they can be somewhat easily replicated by competitors. Nintendo used an encrypted chip system to reduce this possibility. 3. Describe and evaluate Nintendo s strategy in each of the following areas. Why did Nintendo take the actions it did? How did these affect the value created by the industry? How did they affect the portion of that value Nintendo was able to capture? a.Pricing of consoles and games Nintendo s strategy for pricing of consoles and games was to lock in the network effects consoles offered by pricing them at or below cost and reaping profits by pricing video games at significant margin. Nintendo took these actions because it knew that if consumers used the NES/ Famicom console, they would be a captive audience for its higher margin video games which were necessarily more perishable from a consumer taste perspective. How Charles Dickens’ Life Influenced Oliver Twist Essays How Charles Dickens Life Influenced Oliver Twist The range of his creative activity is, in the first place, limited to the world of his youth (Cecil 169). This quote explains many people. What has previously happened to a person has a tremendous impact on them. It can affect their decisions, emotions, and life. The life of a person can sometimes be seen quite easily through what they do. Artists often reveal what their life has been like through the works that they create. Dickens began to do some freelance writings for several magazines. He eventually became the editor of a magazine and an author of his own novels. Throughout Dickens journey through life, the poor laws of Great Britain were closely intertwined. The first major impact that his childhood experiences had on him was his exposure to the factory system. The Industrial Revolution created large urban areas with a central factory that employed most of the area s people. The factory was full of lower class people in unsanitary conditions. In the days of Dickens factory experience the old poor laws were in effect. This helped Dickens situation greatly. His father lived in a fairly nice and sanitary prison, and was given time to find the money he owed. The old poor law system of giving aid to the poor helped to save the Dickens family. When Dickens grew up and was a parliamentary reporter, the new poor laws were about to be passed. Dickens realized that the new poor laws would bring doom to many families. The new poor laws did not help the poor but worsened their condition in order to drive them to work. To explain the full story, I have to back up. Last month was the first time I met my roommate Daisy. She s your classic girl next door: popular, beautiful, and fun. All the guys in the local fraternities try to court her, and everytime we go out she s the one that everyone is fascinated with. And I hope she ll be a fool that s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool... you see I think everything s terrible anyhow... I ve been everywhere and seen everything. • 12. Robber Barons In The Gilded Age The Gilded Age, from 1877 to 1900, was a period in history that showed the vast changes in the population and economy. However, underneath the surface of the seemingly improved society, many people were victims of corruption and unstable living conditions. The wealthy industrialists of the 19th century were rightfully named robber barons due to their low wages, unsafe working conditions, and the treatment of children in the work force. People such as John D. Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and Andrew Carnegie are known as some of the major robber barons during the Gilded Age. Although they made major contributions to the economy, they paid their workers unfair wages. In fact, most working class men were paid very little, so they didn t have the option of a single income home (Child Labor in the Gilded Age). Women and children were also sent to work to earn an income for their family, and often that was barely enough to survive. • 13. The Harvard Referencing Style In Academic Literature Introduction Referencing is one of the most important aspects of any academic literature in the modern day scenario. It is the main way through which someone acknowledges the fact that they have borrowed the ideas of someone else, and have used their work for citation ion their work. There are several different kinds of referencing system among which the Harvard referencing style is one of the most popular. The different aspects of the Harvard style along with the main methods through which the style is implemented have been detailed and discussed. Herein, this study is about the Harvard referencing style and detailing the actual point of referencing in the first place. The Actual Point of Referencing Referencing is extremely important while compiling an academic file, as it is the main method of showing acknowledgement to the authors of the work which has been used for ideas in the said academic literature. A failure in this regard leads to people developing the misconception that the author has cheated or plagiarised someone else s work and is now claiming it as their own. Any kind of plagiarism is considered to be a serious offence, especially in the academic circles. Being accused of the malpractice of plagiarism is one of the worst hits that the reputation of a researcher can ever receive. Simply being married does not provide any special treatment without authorization signed by the spouse (Erickson and Millar, 2005). C1. Explain the elements of the principle of confidentiality. The elements of the principles of confidentiality can be broken down into four separate categories: (1) Information provided by the patient is kept confidential unless consent from the patient has otherwise been given unless it has direct legal implications or endangers the general public. (2) Informed Consent: is given freely, because the correct information has been supplied and the patient has sufficient information on the impacts involved. He would be considered dishonest and lose his chances of ever going any further in the game. Paul has the chance of ruining his reputation as a player. In Proverbs it says, There are six things that the Lord hates (Proverbs 6:16), and one of those being, a lying tongue (Proverbs 6:17, English Standard Version). Don Ross explained that game theory is the study that interacts with the different choices of economics agents which bring forth many different outcomes with the point to the preferences of those agents, where the outcomes in question might have been intended by none of the agents (Ross, 2016). The properties that game theoryconsiders in economic situations include two or more economic actors that is, two or more firms, individuals, political parties, etc. Each individual economic actor has a set of decisions they can make what price to charge, how much to save, whether to move right or left, etc. Each individual economic actor has a goal or payoff, such as profit maximization, maximize happiness, minimize loss, etc. The decisions made by one economic actor not only affects her payoff, but the payoff of one or more other economic actors. Schmidt (2003) states that Game theory was invented in order to satisfy a mathematical curiosity. The difficulty at the outset was to find a theoretical solution to the problem posed by uncertainty in games of chance (Schmidt, 2003). He further stated that the first completed formula of mathematical strategies was sketched by Boral. The application of game theory to economics posed a more fundamental problem due to the distance of separating several major concepts articulated in Theory of Games and Economic Behavior. In Ephesians 4:4 6 it is written that There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism: one Godand Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all . There is one God, who in Himself is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; the unity of the three; Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one (Deuteronomy 6:4). The trinity is God, who is immortal, all knowing, and above all. God is all powerful, love, worth of our worship, ever present, and who created everything. In 2 Corinthians 13:14 May the grace of the Lord JesusChrist, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all , explaining that the trinity, who carries multiple characteristics, is with us to guide us. Another belief is the creation. In Isaiah 45: 18 it is written that For this is what the Lord says he who created the heaves, he is God; he would fashion and made the earth; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited ... The Rebirth Of Ancient Cultures Teresa Fang Professor Moore Humanities 310 25 November 2015 The Rebirth of Ancient Cultures in Renaissance Florence Florence, Italy is known as the cradle of the Renaissance (la culla del Rinascimento). It is a city full of beautiful architecture, art, and history. The Renaissance was a powerful cultural movement that not only shaped all aspects of Florentine life, but eventually the rest of Europe. Science, art, literature, philosophy, religion, architecture, and politics have seen heavy influences by this movement. The term Renaissance literally means rebirth : the rebirth of man and the rebirth of two important ancient cultures, Greek and Roman, which had been lost with the beginning of the Middle Ages in Western history. Florence was very prosperous during the late Middle Ages, next to Venice and Milan. It was the birthplace of many important thinkers, artists, architects, and political figures who led the Renaissance. Along with the birth of the philosophy of humanism, the rebirth of ancient Greek and Roman cultures were driven by a revived interest in ancient thought, the advances in literature, the emphasis of human based ideals in the arts, and the influence of the papacy and the Holy Roman Empire upon the Florentine government. Italian thinkers had an interest in the ways that ancient Greeks and Romans thought, a driving force of the Renaissance. It was the Florentines who first set out to rediscover the glorious past of these cultures. They strongly believed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have average emotionality in my HEXACO and low sensitivity to criticism from the Self Evaluation Scales assessment, so I would typically be reasonably receptive to negative feedback. However, I have low agreeableness, which indicates that I am likely to feel anger in response to perceived mistreatment. In this relationship, I, as the employee, would be much more likely to genuinely respect my boss, thus the power he has over me would be a combination of legitimate power, expert power, and referent power. Research suggests that these bases of power are most effective and positively correlate to employee satisfaction (Robbins Judge, 2008). Since he has my respect, I would believe that he is less affected by bias, and trust that he would put aside his emotions in a professional environment and treat me fairly. I would therefore seriously take his feedback into consideration, as I know that he gives feedback in the hope that I would do better next time. I would also have the courage to explain my point of view of the situation, as I know that my boss would listen. Feedback would therefore be given and received more effectively, since the communication process would be smoother, with less noise and interference. These immortal words were spoken by one of the greatest thinking minds in recent history none other than Albert Einstein. Many thinkers throughout history have picked up on this discrepancy between knowledge and wisdom, despite the two words often being used interchangeably in everyday life. The divide between knowledgeand wisdomis excellently portrayed in the novel Siddhartha written by Hermann Hesse, in which the main character Siddhartha s journey to find inner peace leads him through the theme of wisdom and knowledge being obtained differently. He says I want to begin my thoughts and my life with Atman and with the suffering of the world. With that, Siddhartha sets off with a new mission: to live. Along this newfound path toward wisdom, Siddhartha becomes acquainted with a beautiful female courtesan named Kamala. She teaches Siddhartha to revel in the pleasures and riches of the world and he is happy, seeing the appeal of a worldly life for the first time. • 39. Fortunato Short Story Analysis This story by Edgar Allan Poe is one of premeditated murder. Montresor tells the story of the night when he took his revenge on Fortunato, his friend. Montresor is upset about a long term insult between his family and Fortunato s because Montresor says: Thousand injuries that he has suffered at the hands of Fortunato . He plots to murder his friend during carnival, an event that is usually represented by joy. Montresor chooses the exact moment when the man is drunk and not in his correct mind. Montresor tricks Fortunato into the catacombs to try a wine and eventually seals Fortunato within the catacombs to die. The story s setting describes one closely related to horror, as Poe causes the readers to predict, to fear, and tremble in the opening. The atmosphere of horror increases much more as Montresor describes his adventure with Fortunato into the vaults. There are several examples of verbal irony within Montresor s words. Montresor says one thing that has more than one meaning. Early on, Montresor gives demanding orders to his attendants, not to leave the house, knowing that this will ensure that they would. More than once in the writing we can see Montresor calling Fortunato his friend, while taking him to death. Fortunato says that his cough will not kill him. A cough won t kill me , he says, and Montresor replies, True, true . This quote is probably the most memorable line of the story because he was sure that the cause of his death would not be his cough. Verbal irony along with dark humor seems to fill the whole story. It kind of baffles the reader to think one can be so blindsided into falling for some of the things Montresor has set up for Fortunato s fate. Many times verbal irony has more than one meaning which makes this story as great as it is. In Montresor s last words there is the last example of irony, it happened when Montresor realized that his friend had finally passed. He called Fortunato s name repeatedly, with no answer. Montresor threw his torch into the small hole and it fell into Fortunato s place of death. His last words to his friend were In pace requiescat, which means rest in peace. The irony can be interpreted in two ways, one is Montresor wishing his friend to rest in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An Essay About The Parthenon The Parthenon, once a magnificent work of art, has long been an archeological ruin with pieces of the sculptures that were once a part of it on display in many European museums and, of course, in Greece. Those locations other than Greece have been the center of a long going debate regarding whether the sculptures should remain in those places or if they should be sent back to whence they came. The sculptures are a part of Greek history, and they were once attached to The Parthenon, created as a temple for Greek goddess Athena. Greece should have the right to put all their pieces from this creation on display in their own museums and buildings. The marbles began in Greece, and they should end up back in Greece as well. The area on which the Parthenon was built was not always a barren rock hill. The area surrounding the Parthenon used to be a village complete with houses and gardens. It was like this until the 1830s when the Greeks won their war for independence from Turkish rule. There was then a new ascension to the throne by a Bavarian Prince named Otto. He wanted to find a way to showcase symbols of patriotism in a country that was starting anew at the end of the war. Germany s nation was split between the four allied powers: United States, Great Britain, Soviet Union, and France. In addition, the capital city of Berlin was also divided amongst the Allied Powers into four sections. However, tensions among the Western Powers and Soviet Union caused a shift into a Cold War. Art can encompass many different activities .Being a New Orleanian we are surrounded by all types of art. We don t always take advantage of this rich cultural and sightsee all the city has to offer. That is why after years of living here I have decided to explore. I stop by the Saenger Theatre located on Canal Street. According to the Saenger official website, the Saenger Theatre opened on February 4, 1927. This source claims the theatre took three years to build and cost $2.5 million. The building is such a staple on Canal. Before its renovation in 2013, the outside of it looked like something I could pass up easily especially during the daytime. Now as I walked on the sidewalk. I see on the outside of the building a timeline of historical events. I could not help admiring the facts posted around the building. They were vibrant colored pictures detailing some facts about the Saenger and some fascinating historical events. • 53. My Life Changing Experience At The Doctor s Office I walk through the doors with my mom. I hear crying, little kids throwing tantrums and moms telling their kids everything would be fine. The nurses walking around with files and stethoscopes around their necks. I was officially at the doctor s office. I had checked in and sitting in pain with all these noises going on, thinking that it would be just a regular visit. But little did I know, from that day on it would be a life changing experience to my identity. My whole life s been a chase, it s a gift and a curse. Was on my way up to the top then slipped into reverse. I was at the doctor s office for a messed up shoulder. Not thinking he would say anything about getting older. They had me sit patiently in pain while they were scanning away my arm to see what was the cause of all this. The doc showed me the x rays and said you ll be fine, it s just a frozen shoulder blade. But do you see this here ? I immediately said yeah like, what is it? He points his finger at the x ray and tells me what no 18 year old, 5 foot 5 boy that is playing hockey wants to hear, you re done growing. My stiffened like I had seen a ghost. My heart had stopped like something was stuck in my throat. I could feel the rapids of water hit the dam behind my eyes and when I stepped outside, that dam broke. I couldn t hold the tears back. The rest of the night I would stay awake in my bed and keep telling myself from that point on, I swear I would go on my grind mode. Three weeks go by and I m fully charged ... ITAA 1997 Section 995 1 provides that the meaning of an Australian resident is defined in ITAA 1936 Section 6 (1), which sets out different criteria for determining the residency of individuals and companies. There are four tests to ascertain that an individual is a resident or not. An individual need only to satisfy one of these tests to qualify as a resident for tax purposes. These tests are the ordinary concept test, the domicile test, the 183 day day test and the superannuation test. To assist in determining the residence of a person under the ordinary concept, the following factors need to be considered: physical presence in Australia; if the person is a visitor, the frequency, regularity and duration of visits; the purpose of the visits to Australia and abroad; the maintenance of a place of abode in Australia for the taxpayer s use; the person s family business and social ties; and the person s nationality. In the case of Levene v IRC, the House of Lords agreed that the taxpayer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Court concluded that a permanent place of abode did not mean one that was everlasting forever but rather one that was permanent in relation to a particular year of income. While the taxpayer might plan to return to Australia at some point in the future, his abode in Vanuatu was a permanent one until he made a decision to cease to reside in Vanuatu and to return to Australia. The approached taken by the Federal Court in Applegate also applies in FCT v Jenkins, where the Court concluded that the taxpayer had a permanent place of abode outside Australia during his time in Vanuatu.
