The paper describes the single stage AC-AC converter. This converter is a good alternative to quasi direct back to back converter. This single stage converter is called Matrix Converter. Matrix converter is an array of controlled semiconductor switches that connects three phase source to the three phase load. This converter provides bidirectional power flow, sinusoidal input and output waveforms and they have no dc link storage elements. Simulation model and results presented showing Venturini control method of matrix converter.
This paper introduces the modelling of a novel three phase AC-AC converter with indirect use of a capacitor as DC voltage link. The proposed converter has high efficiency because it uses Space Vector PWM (SVPWM) technique at both rectificier and inverter stages to operate the pulse width modulation in IGBT switches. The novel converter is equipped with a power factor control to shape the rectifier input current waveform to be sinusoidal and to be in phase with the input voltage. To keep the DC voltage stable, the converter utilizes PI controllers. Simulations are conducted for output voltage from 120 to 300 Volts with output frequency ranging from 30 Hz to 60 Hz. The simulation results show that the converter is able to maintain stable the DC voltage and current. Furthermore, the model demonstrates the benefits of proposed converter in terms of acquiring high input power factor and sinusoidal current waveform at the output side of the inverter.

Matrix converter is a direct AC-AC converter topology that directly converts energy from an AC source to an AC load without the need of a bulky and limited lifetime energy storage element. Due to the significant advantages offered by matrix converter, such as adjustable power factor, capability of regeneration and high quality sinusoidal input/output waveforms. Matrix converter has been one of the AC–AC topologies that hasreceived extensive research attention for being an alternative to replace traditional AC-DC-AC converters in the variable voltage and variable frequency AC drive applications. In the present paper an indirect space vector modulated matrix converter is proposed. The basic idea of an indirect modulation scheme is to separately apply SVM to the rectification and inversion stages, before combining their switching states to produce the final gating signals. The paper encompasses development of a laboratory prototype of 230V, 250VA three phase to three phase DSP controlled matrix converter fed induction motor drive. The observations and real time testings have been carried out to evaluate and improve the stability of system under various typical abnormal input voltage conditions
This paper presents an analysis of virtual-flux direct power control (VFDPC) technique for the three-phase pulse width modulation (PWM) ac-dc converter. The proposed VFDPC is developed by assuming the grid voltage and converter line filters quantities are related to a virtual three-phase ac motor. The controller works with less number of sensors by eliminating the voltage sensors used for measuring the three-phase grid voltage. The grid virtual flux which is proportional to the grid voltage will be estimated from the information of converter switching states, line current, and dc-link output voltage. Several analyses are performed in order to study the steady state and dynamic performance of the converter, particularly during the load and DC voltage output reference variations. The proportional integral (PI) controller at the outer voltage control loop of VFDPC is tuned properly and the entire PWM ac-dc converter system is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink to ensure the dc output voltage follow the desired output voltage under steady state and dynamic conditions. Ac-dc converter utilizing the proposed VFDPC is able to generate three-phase input current waveforms that are almost sinusoidal with low harmonics contents which is less than 5% and near unity power factor (pf) operation.

Multilevel inverter offers several advantages compare to the conventional three phase bridge inverter in terms of lower dv/dt stresses, lower electromagnetic compatibility and better THD features. The primary use of DC to AC conversion & speed control of machines also voltage controller and reduce the harmonics in the levels of inverter by using cascade multilevel inverter. This paper presents a comparison of cascaded and multilevel dc link inverter (MLDCLI) Using only a DC power source and capacitors. A MLDCLI can be constructed by the series connection half and full bridge cells each having its own DC source .A multilevel voltage source inverter can be formed by connecting an MLDCL with a single bridge inverter. The MLDCL provides a DC voltage with the shape of a staircase with or without pulse width modulation (PWM) to the bridge inverter, which in turn alternates the polarity to produce an AC voltage. compared with the cascaded multilevel inverter, The MLDCLI can significantly reduce the switch count as the number of voltage levels increases beyond five for a given number of voltage levels , m , the required number of active switches is 2(m -1) for the existing multilevel inverter but is m+3 for the MLDCL inverters.

A new bidirectional multilevel inverter topology with a high number of voltage levels with a very reduced number of power components is proposed in this paper. Only TEN power switches and four asymmetric DC voltage sources are used to generate 25 voltage levels in this new topology. The proposed multilevel converter is more suitable for e-mobility and photovoltaic applications where the overall energy source can be composed of a few units/associations of several basic source modules. Several benefits are provided by this new topology: Highly sinusoidal current and voltage waveforms, low Total Harmonic Distortion, very low switching losses, and minimum cost and size of the device. For optimum control of this 25-level voltage inverter, a special Modified Hybrid Modulation technique is performed. The proposed 25-level inverter is compared to various topologies published recently in terms of cost, the number of active power switches, clamped diodes, flying capacitors, DC floating capacitors, and the number of DC voltage sources. This comparison clearly shows that the proposed topology is cost-effective, compact, and very efficient. The effectiveness and the good performance of the proposed multilevel power converter (with and without PWM control) are verified and checked by computational simulations.

Enhancement of upfc performance with matrix converter using advanced direct p...eSAT Journals
Abstract In this paper presents a direct power control (DPC) for three-phase matrix converters operating as unified power flow controllers (UPFCs). Matrix converters (MCs) allow the direct ac/ac power conversion without dc energy storage links; therefore, the MC-based UPFC (MC-UPFC) has reduced size and cost, reduced capacitor power losses, together with higher reliability. Theoretical principles of direct power control (DPC) based on sliding mode control methods are established for an MC-UPFC dynamic model including the input filter. As a result, line active and reactive power, together with ac supply reactive power, can be directly controlled by selecting an appropriate matrix converter switching state assuring good steady-state and dynamic responses. Experimental results of DPC controllers for MC-UPFC show decoupled active and reactive power control, zero steady-state tracking error, and fast response times. Compared to an MC-UPFC using active and reactive power linear controllers based on a modified Venturini high-frequency PWM modulator, the experimental results of the advanced DPC-MC guarantee faster responses without overshoot and no steady-state error, presenting no cross-coupling in dynamic and steady-state responses. Keywords: Ac/ac conversion advanced direct power controller, matrix converter, unified power flow controller.
An Improved UPQC Controller to Provide Grid-Voltage RegulationIJMTST Journal
In this paper presents an improved controller for the dual topology of the Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) extending its capability in power quality compensation, as well as in micro-grid applications. By the use of this controller, beyond the conventional UPQC power quality features including voltage sag/swell compensation, the iUPQC will also compensate reactive power support to regulate not only the load-bus voltage, but also the voltage at the grid-side bus. We can say, the iUPQC will work as a STATCOM at the grid side, while providing also the conventional UPQC compensations at the load terminal or micro-grid side. Experimental results are provided to verify the new functionality of the equipment.

In this paper a state feedback controller for tubular linear permanent magnet
synchronous motor (TLPMSM) containing two gas springs, is presented.
The proposed TLPMSM controller is used to control reciprocating motions
of TLPMSM. The analytical plant model of TLPMSM is a multi-input
multi-output (MIMO) system which is decoupled to some sub single-input
single-output (SISO) systems, then, the sub SISO systems are converted to

to some sub-state spaces, and then, the gains of state feedback are calculated
by linear quadratic regulation (LQR) method for each sub-state space
separately. The controller decreases the distortions of the waveforms.
The simulation results indicate the validity of the controller.

Modified Distribution Transformer for Enhancing Power Quality in Distribution...IAES-IJPEDS
The percentage of non-linear loads in the power distribution sector is increasing
day by day. Harmonics injected by these non-linear loads circulate in the delta
windings of the conventional distribution transformer thereby increasing the
temperature and losses. This reduces the efficiency and life of the transformers.
In a modified distribution transformer configuration proposed recently, called
star-star-delta_utilized configuration (YYD_utilized), the harmonics circulating
in the delta winding was utilized and the drainage power thus recovered was
used to power auxiliary loads. This paper presents the experimental studies
conducted on YYD_utilized distribution transformer. When compared to
conventional star-star, delta-star and star-star-delta transformers, the new
configuration of YYD_utilized transformer has shown considerable
improvement in transformer efficiency. The results obtained show that when
the power from the circulating harmonics is recovered and utilized, it not only
improves transformer efficiency but also improves the power factor
and reduces the harmonic distortions at the primary side of the transformer.
The results obtained also suggest the existence of maximum power point or an
optimum loading for the recovered harmonic power.
Modelling of Virtual Synchronous Converter for Grid-Inverter Synchronization ...IAES-IJPEDS
In this paper, virtual synchronous converter (VSCon) is been developed
which mimic the behavior of synchronous generator as in order to have fast
synchronization between the inverter with the grid. This synchronization is
important before can sent the power among inverter-grid connection. This
technique can also been applied at the distributed generated sources when are
connected to the local microgrids. Here, the frequency and voltage
synchronization also can be controlled at the same time some improvement
on synchronous generator mathematical model that is suitable to be
implemented into the inverter control. The whole unit of VSCon is operated
and simulated in Matlab/Simulink in order to observe all consequences
during synchronizing the voltage, frequency and phase-angle. It has been
verified by the simulation circuit where, the power converter can be
synchronized with the microrids without using a PLL unit for self
synchronization. This VSCon technique has proven that, by applying the
concept of the synchronous generator model in inverter control, it can cause
the inverter to behave as generator system, which does not required any
phase information from the grid in order to be synchronized.
Enhanced Crowbar Protection for Fault Ride through Capability of Wind Generat...IAES-IJPEDS
Due to increasing demand in power, the integration of renewable sources like
wind generation into power system is gaining much importance nowadays.
The heavy penetration of wind power into the power system leads to many
integration issues mainly due to the intermittent nature of the wind and the
desirability for variable speed operation of the generators. As the wind power
generation depends on the wind speed, its integration into the grid has
noticeable influence on the system stability and becomes an important issue
especially when a fault occurs on the grid. The protective disconnection of a
large amount of wind power during a fault will be an unacceptable
consequence and threatens the power system stability. With the increasing
use of wind turbines employing Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG)
technology, it becomes a necessity to investigate their behavior during grid
faults and support them with fault ride through capability. This paper
presents the modeling and simulation of a doubly fed induction generator
according to grid code compatibility driven by a wind turbine connected to
the grid. This paper analyses the voltage sag due to a three-phase fault in the
wind connected grid. A control strategy including a crowbar circuit has been
developed in MATLAB/SIMULINK to bypass the rotor over currents during
grid fault to enhance the fault ride through capability and to maintain system
stability. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed control
strategies in DFIG based grid connected wind turbine system.
An Improved of Multiple Harmonic Sources Identification in Distribution Syste...IAES-IJPEDS
This paper introduces an improved of multiple harmonic sources
identification that been produced by inverter loads in power system using
time-frequency distribution (TFD) analysis which is spectrogram.
The spectrogram is a very applicable method to represent signals in
time-frequency representation (TFR) and the main advantages
of spectrogram are the accuracy, speed of the algorithm and use low memory
size such that it can be computed rapidly. The identification of multiple
harmonic sources is based on the significant relationship of spectral
impedances which are the fundamental impedance (Z1) and harmonic
impedance (Zh) that extracted from TFR. To verify the accuracy of the
proposed method, MATLAB simulations carried out several unique cases
with different harmonic producing loads on IEEE 4-bus test feeder cases. It is
proven that the proposed method is superior with 100% correct identification
of multiple harmonic sources. It is envisioned that the method is very
accurate, fast and cost efficient to localize harmonic sources in distribution
system.
Performance and Energy Saving Analysis of Grid Connected Photovoltaic in West...IAES-IJPEDS
The paper presents performance and energy saving analysis of 1.25 kWp grid
connected photovoltaic system under difference weather condition in West
Sumatera. The measured data were performed during weather data that often
occur in West Sumatra i.e. sunny, overcast, raining and cloudy.
The synchronizing process successfully done even bad weather conditions
when sunlight was low automatically. Photovoltaic in average start
producing power from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM for normal or clear sky, however
under overcast, raining and cloudy weather, the PV power decreased and
disconnected earlier before sunset. During intermittent raining, overcast and
cloud covered the PV power output show an irregular profile. The PV energy
saving performed for three residential connection cases: 1300 VA, 900 VA
with subsidized and 900 VA without subsidized. The solar PV installation
have more benefits and energy saving for 1300 VA, 900 VA without
subsidized with payback period around 8.5 years. However, the 900 VA with
subsidized take longer 20.8 years, but still in PV lifespan 25 years. In the
future, household subsidies may be reduced or eliminated, the solar energy
will be viable alternative of energy resources when it can produce electricity
at a cost equivalent to utility grid PLN rate.
An Improved Constant Voltage Based MPPT Technique for PMDC MotorIAES-IJPEDS
Stand-alone photovoltaic (SAPV) systems are being used in remote areas
and are being seen as one of the promising solution in this regard. The SAPV
system as presented in the paper consists of solar PV panel, a DC-DC
converter, a controller and a PMDC motor. The current-voltage and powervoltage
characteristics being nonlinear, the SAPV system require maximum
power point techniques (MPPT) control techniques to extract maximum
power available from the PV cell. A voltage based MPPT technique which is
capable of tracking MPP has been selected because of numerous advantages
it offers such as: simple and low cost of implementation. The limitation of
constant voltage method is that its efficiency is low as the PV panel has to be
disconnected from the load for measurement of the open circuit voltage
(Voc). In the presented paper, the authors have removed this limitation by
using a pilot PV panel for measurement of Voc. A proportional-integrator (PI)
based controller is used in implementation of constant voltage MPP
technique and the modeling is done in MATLAB®/SIMULINK simulation
environment. The simulation results are presented and discussed in the paper,
the results shows that the efficiency of the system has increased.
A Discrete PLL Based Load Frequency Control of FLC-Based PV-Wind Hybrid Power...IAES-IJPEDS
The sun and wind-based generation are considered to besource of green
power generation which can mitigate the power demand issues. As solar and
wind power advancements are entrenched and the infiltration of these
Renewable Energy Sources (RES) into to network is expanding dynamically.
So, as to outline a legitimate control and to harness power from RES the
learning of natural conditions for a specific area is fundamental. Fuzzy Logic
Controller (FLC) based Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) controlled
boost converter are utilized for viable operation and to keep DC voltage
steady at desired level. The control scheme of the inverter is intended to keep
the load voltage and frequency of the AC supply at aconstant level regardless
of progress in natural conditions and burden. A Simulink model of the
proposed Hybrid system with the MPPT controlled Boost converters
and Voltage regulated Inverter for stand-alone application is developed in
MATLAB R2015a, Version 8.5.0. The ongoing information of Wind Speed
and Solar Irradiation levels are recorded at BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad Campus
the performance of the voltage regulated inverter under constant and varying
linearAC load is analyzed. The investigation shows that the magnitude of
load voltage and frequency of the load voltage is maintained at desired level
by the proposed inverter control logic.
An Adaptive Virtual Impedance Based Droop Control Scheme for Parallel Inverte...IAES-IJPEDS
This paper presents an adaptive virtual impedance based droop control
scheme for parallel inverter operation in low voltage microgrid. Because it is
essential to achieve power sharing between inverters in microgrid, various
droop control schemes have been proposed. In practice, the line impedance
between inverters and the point of common coupling (PCC) in microgrid are
not always equal. This imbalance in line impedance often results in a reactive
power mismatch among inverters. This problem has been solved by
introducing a virtual impedance loop in the conventional droop control
scheme. However, the reactive power sharing performance of this method is
still deteriorated when the line impedances change during operation. To
overcome such a problem, a new control scheme that is based on a virtual
impedance loop and an impedance estimation scheme is proposed.
To monitor the changes in line impedances, the impedance estimator is
implemented by using the output voltages and currents of inverters as well as
the voltages at the PCC. To compensate for the reactive power mismatch due
to the line impedance changes, the estimated line impedance is fed to the
virtual impedance loop in which it adjusts the virtual impedance value.
Comparative simulation results with the conventional ones verify the
effectiveness of the proposed adaptive virtual impedance based droop control
scheme.
Open-Switch Fault-Tolerant Control of Power Converters in a Grid-Connected Ph...IAES-IJPEDS
This paper presents the study of an open switch fault tolerant control of a
grid-connected photovoltaic system. The studied system is based on the
classical DC-DC boost converter and a bidirectional 6-pulse DC-AC
converter. The objective is to provide an open-switch fault detection method
and fault-tolerant control for both of boost converter and grid-side converter
(GSC) in a grid-connected photovoltaic system. A fast fault detection method
and a reliable fault-tolerant topology are required to ensure continuity of
service, and achieve a faster corrective maintenance. In this work, the mean
value of the error voltages is used as fault indicator for the GSC, while, for
the boost converter the inductor current form is used as fault indicator. The
fault-tolerant topology was achieved by adding one redundant switch to the
boost converter, and by adding one redundant leg to the GSC. The results of
the fault tolerant control are presented and discussed to validate the proposed
approach under different scenarios and different solar irradiances.

charging time required for the batteries used in EV. As a consequence, this
subject matter has been researched in many credentials where a wide range
of solutions have been proposed. However those solutions are in nature due
to the complex hardware structure. To provide an unswerving journey
an Android application based charging optimization is proposed.
This application is aimed at giving relevant information about the EV’s
battery state of charge (SOC), accurate location of the EV, booking of the
charging slots using token system and route planner. At emergency
situations, an alternative service is provided by mobile charging stations.
Route planner indicates the temperature by which prediction of reaching the

motels are indicated. The estimated time and distance between the electric
vehicle and the charging station is calculated by the charging station server
according to which the parking lot is allocated. Vehicle to charging station
communication is established for the time estimation of charging. This will
help the EV users to know about charge status and charging station, which
support fast charging method and availability of the station on the go

Single-Phase Multilevel Inverter with Simpler Basic Unit Cells for Photovolta...IAES-IJPEDS
This paper presents a single-phase multilevel inverter (MLI) with simpler
basic unit cells. The proposed MLI is able to operate in two modes, i.e.
charge mode to charge the batteries, and inverter mode to supply AC power
to load, and therefore, it is inherently suitable for photovoltaic (PV) power
generation applications. The proposed MLI requires lower number of power
MOSFETs and gate driver units, which will translate into higher cost saving
and better system reliability. The power MOSFETs in the basic unit cells
and H-bridge module are switched at near fundamental frequency, i.e. 100
Hz and 50 Hz, respectively, resulting in lower switching losses. For low total
harmonic distortion (THD) operation, a deep scanning method is employed
to calculate the switching angles of the MLI. The lowest THD obtained is
8.91% at modulation index of 0.82. The performance of the proposed MLI
(9-level) has been simulated and evaluated experimentally. The simulation
and experimental results are in good agreement and this confirms that the
proposed MLI is able to produce an AC output voltage with low THD.

Addressing common defects through careful monitoring, standardized processes, and advanced technology can significantly improve the quality of TMT bars. Continuous training and adherence to quality control measures will also play a pivotal role in minimizing these defects.
Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

type is called a direct AC/AC power frequency converter. This latter type is a one stage power converter
which consists basically of an array of semiconductor switches connected directly between the input and
output terminals.
2.1. Indirect AC/DC/AC Power Converter
The most traditional topology for AC/AC power converter is a diode rectifier based pulse width
modulated voltage source inverter (PWM-VSI) which is shown in Figure 1. This consists of two power
stages and an intermediate energy storage element. In the first stage the AC power is converted to
uncontrolled DC power by the means of a diode rectifier circuit. The converted DC power is then stored in
DC link capacitor. In the second stage a high frequency switching operated PWM-VSI generates AC signals
with arbitrary amplitude and frequency [2].
Figure 1. Diode rectifier-PWM VSI converter
2.2. Direct AC/AC Converter
The direct AC/AC converter provides a direct connection between the input and output terminals
without an intermediate energy storage element through an array of semiconductor switches as shown in
Figure 2.
Figure 2. Direct AC/AC converter
The main features of matrix converter are the following [3]:
a) Sinusoidal input current and sinusoidal output voltage.
b) It employs bidirectional switches, which enables regenerating energy back to the source.
c) It ables to adjust the input power factor of the converter despite the type of the load connected. Unity
power factor is easily achievable.
d) There is no intermediary DC-link energy storage. Since the converter is DC-link less, the size and cost of
the converter is relatively reduced. In addition, the power at the input is seen at the output.
e) It has found utility in high temperature, high vibration and low volume/weight applications such as
aerospace.
3. MATRIX CONVERTER
The study of the matrix converter has been going on for the last 25 years. The progress in the
development of power device (silicon) technology and large power integrated circuits encouraged the interest
of research to explore an AC-AC matrix converter as an elegant silicon-intensive and efficient way to convert
electric power for the following: AC motor drives, uninterruptible power supplies, variable frequency
generators, and reactive energy controls. However, the power converter is still not utilized in industry
because of the difficulties involved in the practical implementation related to bidirectional switch realization,

PWM control method, the synchronization and the protection problems [3]. This section describes a
mathematical tools and models which are used to analyse the different control methods commonly employed
for matrix converter implementation.
3.1. Working Principle
In general, the matrix converter is a single-stage converter with m×n bidirectional power switches,
designed to connect an m-phase voltage source to an n-phase load. The matrix converter of 3×3 switches,
shown in Figure.3, is the most important converter from a practical point of view, because it connects a three-
phase source to a three phase load. In the basic topology of the MC shown in Figure 3, Vi,i={a,b,c} are the
source voltages, i ={a,b,c}, are the source currents, Vjn, j ={A,B,C}, are the load voltages with respect to
the neutral point of the load n, and ij , j={A,B,C} are the load currents. Additionally, other auxiliary variables
have been defined to be used as a basis of the modulation and control strategies and VjN, j = {A,B,C} are the
load voltages with respect to the neutral point N of the source.
Each switch Sji, i ={a,b,c}, j ={A,B,C}, can connect or disconnect phase I of the input stage to phase
j of the load and, the proper combination of the conduction states of these switches, arbitrary output voltages
VjN czn be syntheized. Each switch is characterized by a switching function called existence function,
proposed by Wood [4] , provides a mathematical expression for describing switching patterns, defined as
follows:
Sji(t) =
0 if switch S is open
1 if swich S is closed

3.2. Mathematical Model of Matrix Converter
A simplified three-phase matrix converter model is shown in Figure 2 and consists of 9 ideal
bidirectional switches which allows each of the three output lines to be connected to any of the three input
lines. The three converter inputs are connected to a 3-phase system, Va, Vb, Vc. The output lines are
connected to a three-phase current source, iA, iB and iC, which acts as the load.
Input voltages and output currents are given by Equation (2) and (3), respectively.

4. VENTURINI METHOD
The Matrix Converter control strategies were first mentioned by Alesina [1] and Venturini [5].
Various modulation techniques can be applied to the AC-AC matrix Converter to achieve sinusoidal output
voltages and input currents. An optimal modulation strategy should minimize the input current and the output
voltage harmonic distortion and device power loss. The first modulator proposed for Matrix Converters,
Known as the Venturini modulation, employed a scalar model [6]. This model gives a maximum voltage
transfer ratio of 0.5. The concept of switching functions is used to derive a mathematical model of the Matrix
Converter which is done in the previous chapter.
In this analysis, a three-phase input, three-phase output converter is considered. Because the Matrix
Converter is symmetrical, the designation of input and output ports is arbitrary. However, for any sensible
mode of operation, one port should be considered to have a voltage stiff characteristic and the other port a
current stiff characteristic. In this case stiff means that the voltage or current must be constant with no
interruptions or sudden variations. For the following analysis it is assumed that the input port is voltage stiff
and the output port is current stiff. In a practical Matrix Converter an input filter is included to circulate the
high frequency switching harmonics and provide the voltage stiff characteristic. The output inductance is
usually part of the load giving a current stiff characteristic. This study considers that upper case suffixes
always denote the output phases and lower case suffixes denote the input phases as shown in Figure 3.
If conventional PWM is employed the switching sequence Tshas a fixed period.A modulation duty
cycle should be defined for each switch in order to determine the average behaviour of the Matrix Converter
output voltage waveform. The modulation duty cycle is defined by:
(4)
Where tA are presents the time when switch Aa is ON and Ts represents the time of the complete sequence in
the PWM pattern. The modulation strategies are defined by using these continuous time functions. Equation
(4) shows the use of these functions for the three-phase Matrix Converter.

known as the modulation matrix.

In this section, the basic Venturini modulation strategy for matrix converter will be
presented.Modulation is the procedure used to generate the appropriate firing pulses to each of the nine
bidirectional switches (Sji) in order to generate the desired output voltage. In this case, the primary objective
of the modulation is to generate variable-frequency and variable-amplitude sinusoidal output voltages (VjN)
from the fixed-frequency and fixed-amplitude input voltages (Vi). The easiest way of doing this is to
consider time windows in which the instantaneous values of the desired output voltages are sampled and the
instantaneous input voltages are used to synthesize a signal whose low frequency component is the desired
output voltage. If tji is defined as the time during which switch sjiis on and Tsas the sampling interval, the
synthesis principle described above can be expressed as:

Note that, because of the averaging working principle, the output voltage low frequency component
cannot exceed the maximum available amplitudes for all instants. The reference can attain its maximum at an
arbitrary time, therefore the worst-case maximum available amplitudes are equal to 0.5Vi as in Figure 4 and,
therefore, the voltage gain of the matrix converter is restricted to be less than 0.5. It must be clarified,
however, that this limit is small since the modulation under consideration uses the phase-to-neutral voltages
to synthesize the output voltages, i.e. this is a limitation arising from the modulation used, not from the
matrix converter [7].

5. SIMULATION MODEL AND RESULTS
In order to verify the effectiveness of this power supply and the output voltage control strategy
proposed, the Matrix Converter system is simulated considering practical values for the electronic component
and load conditions. The system has main technical specifications as follow [8]:
a) Rated input voltage: Three-phase 415V (rms, line voltage), 50Hz mains supply.
b) Rated output power: The Matrix Converter system is designed for a total power of 3kVA.
c) Rated output voltage: Three-phase 117V (rms, phase voltage).
The total output power is 7.5kVA. The power per phase is calculated as:

5.1. Simulation Model
Details of Basic Venturini control Method was explained in detailed in section VI. This model
designed and simulated using the Matlab - Simulink package to demonstrate the basic principle of the matrix
converter. Equaation (15) is used to obtain the elements of the low-frequency transfer matrix M (t) and times
tji. Figure 5 shows the general structure of the module that generates the components mjiof matrix M(t),
taking as inputs the current samples of the MC input voltages (Vi) and of the desired output voltages.
(VjN= Vjref)
The most important part of the simulation is the generation of the switching functions of the
bidirectional switches (Sji(t)). These functions correspond to the gate drive signals of the power switches in
the real converter. Figure 6 presents the block diagram used to generate these functions in the case of the jth
output phase.
If we consider the variables and waveforms shown in Figure7 the "Introduction" chapter can
ultimately result in "Results and Discussion" chapter, so there is compatibility. Moreover, it can also be
added the prospect of the development of research results and application prospects of further studies into the
next (based on result and discussion).

5.2. Results
Some studies have been done using the following parameters: source voltage amplitude 230V, 50
Hz, load resistance R =10Ω, load inductance L=8mH, voltage gain q=0.45, output frequency f0=50Hz this
means that the reference has an amplitude equal to 0.45×230=103.5V and a frequency of 50Hz, switching
frequency fs=1/Ts=2kHz. For the resolution of the equations a five-order fixed-step solver, included in
Matlab_–Simulink (ODE5 (Dormand-Price)), has been used. Figure 8 shows the output voltage VAN and
Figure 9 shows the load current iAfor the above conditions. The working principle of the MC is clearly
demonstrated. The low-pass characteristic of the load produces an almost sinusoidal current ia. In addition, it
can be observed that the MC can generate output frequencies that are not restricted by the source
frequency, which typically is the case in phase-controlled cycloconverters.

Figure 10. Output frequency changes as the reference frequency changes
It is important to note that the proposed simulation strategy Figure 10 shows the output phase
voltage in the same conditions of Figure 8, but considering a voltage gain of q=0.9 and an output frequency
of f0=20Hz. Note that the voltage gain is greater than the maximum allowable (q=0.5) and therefore the low-
frequency component of the generated voltage is heavily distorted. There are intervals in which the input
voltage level is not enough to synthesize the desired output voltage.
6. CONCLUSION
The paper presents Venturini modulation techniques for three phase-to-three phase matrix converter.
In this technique we will assume the desired output voltage and from that we will derive the modulation
matrix from this we will find the duty ratio of each switches, so will get the sinusoidal input current and
output voltage. The feasibility and validity of the method were verified by MATLAB simulation. It can be
conclude that this method is ac to ac conversion in matrix converter.
