What is MWSNs?
❑Mobile Wireless Sensor Network (MWSN) is defined as a wireless sensor network (WSN) in
which the sensor nodes are mobile.
❑Mobile sensor nodes consist of a microcontroller, various sensors (i.e., light, temperature,
humidity, pressure, mobility, etc.), a radio transceiver, and that is powered by a battery.
Mobile Sensor
Node Architecture
➢ Designed with one or more
sensors.
➢ The location or position finder
unit is used to identify the
position of the sensor node
➢ The mobilizer provides mobility
for a sensor node
➢ The power generator unit is
responsible to generate a
power for recharging battery.
Design Challenges Of MWSNs
➢ Hardware Cost
➢ System Architecture
➢ Memory
➢ Battery Size
➢ Processing Speed
➢ Sensor Node / Sink Mobility
➢ Coverage
➢ Wireless Connectivity
➢ Programmability
➢ Security
➢ Protocol Design
➢ Data Redundancy
➢ Energy Consumption
Challenges Faced By MWSNs
HARDARE
➢Limited battery power.
➢Low-cost requirements.
➢Low complexity algorithms required for
microcontrollers.
➢Use of only a simplex radio.
ENVIRONMENTAL
➢Shared medium
➢Varying topology
➢Hybrid topology is the solution for data
collection, network performance and
varying topology.
Mobility Models
➢ Modeled to describe the
movement towards/away mobile
sensor nodes.
➢ Tells us About how Location,
Velocity and Acceleration
change over time.
➢ Mobility Management Schemes
For MWSNs describe the use of
mobility models to predict
future position of sensor nodes.
Network Topology
➢ Transfer the data onto the mobile
sensor nodes to the sink/base
station..
➢ Then, The sink and the remote
user/server are connected by the
internet.
➢ MWSNs purely depend on Data
Collection or Topology
Management Scheme.
➢ Define the dimension of the
sensor node group, manage the
addition of new members of a
group and deal with the
withdrawal of members that leave
the group.
SensorNode
Routing Protocols
➢ The routing protocols define
how nodes will communicate
with each other and how the
information will be disseminated
through the network.
➢ The routing approaches to the
MWSNs can be centralized,
distributed or hybrid.

Routing Protocol
LEACH
(Low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy)
➢ Routing protocol
➢ Organizes the cluster such that the
energy is equallydividedin all the
sensor nodes in the network.
➢ Several clusters are produced of
sensor nodes
➢ One node defined as cluster head act
as routing node for all the other nodes
in the cluster.
➢ Sensor nodes elect themselves as
cluster head with some probability
criteria defined by the protocoland
announcethis to other nodes.
T-LEACH Variant
➢ It uses the Hierarchical Tree Topology.
➢ There are two phases
➢ Topology Construction Stage
➢ Data aggregation tree
➢ Cluster structure
➢ Multi-hop transmit
mechanism
➢ Topology Maintenance Stage.
➢ Follows Multi-Hop Scheme
➢ Member Nodes Mobile
Reaction Mechanism.
➢ Cluster Mobile Reaction
Mechanism.
➢ T-Leach is Efficient Than Leach in
terms of packet delivery ratio and
average energy consumption.
MWSNs
MERITS
❑Scalable and can accommodate any new
nodes at any time.
❑It is Flexible And Hence Open to Physical
Partitions.
❑All the nodes can be accessed by
Centralized Monitoring System.
❑It is Wireless.
DEMERITS
❑As it is wireless, it is prone to hackers.
❑Can not be used for high speed
communication.
❑It is Expensive Network.
❑If Star Topology is used, failure of central
node leads to whole network shutdown.
Applications
➢Military Applications
➢Area Monitoring
➢Transport Applications
➢Surveilance System
➢Self–Driving Cars
Impact On
Financial Market
➢ Wireless Sensor Network Market size
was valued at USD 56.24 Billion in
2020.
➢ It is projected to reach USD 215.93
Billion by 2028, growing at a CAGR
of 18.32% from 2021 to 2028.
➢ Intel Corporation Huawei
Investment & Holding Co., Ltd., Dell
Incorporation, Texas Instruments
Inc., Cisco Systems Inc., Hewlett
Packard Enterprise Co., NXP
Semiconductors N.V.,
STMicroelectronics N.V., TE

Conclusions
We analyzed the major technical challenges as well as the research issues in designing hardware
architectures, mobility, algorithms, and protocols for the large-scale MWSNs.
We discussed about mobile sensor node architecture, mobility, topology, and routing protocols.
And Finally discussed about the market value of the MWSNs.
