This document discusses test driven development (TDD) using the SOLID principles. It begins with an introduction of the presenter and agenda. Scaling your Tableau - Migrating from Tableau Online to a proper DWH solution...
Initially storing data with Tableau Online storage could sound like a good idea, mainly because you get it for free. From another side Tableau doesn't say they provide a DWH platform, so you can not expect any kind of production use-cases from the storage of Tableau Online. In the talk, we will go through the process of automatically duplicating your Tableau datasources to Amazon Redshift. That will enable us to be more flexible with scaling your data, be sure about backup strategies and many-many more points. We will introduce our python toolchain that helps us in a daily management of our BI.

ACM ITICSE 2014 - Talk on Motivational Active Learning
This document summarizes research on a course that used Motivational Active Learning (MAL) techniques. The course combined theoretical concepts, programming, and mathematical modeling. Students worked collaboratively in small groups with interactive activities, discussions, and gamification elements like badges. Work gossip: We’ve all heard it, and some of us have spread it -- whether that action took place around the water cooler, via text or through email.
There are mixed views about gossip: Some say that gossip is toxic, and I tend to agree. Others, such as Red Hat CEO Jim Whitehurst, actively encourage it.
But at my company, our definition of gossip is clear: “unproductive communication with someone who cannot help solve the problem at hand.” In short, this kind of talk pollutes a work environment.
Personally, I believe humans' tendency to gossip can be transformed into better communication all around. Here are some intentional steps leaders can take to flip office chattiness on its head and model the behavior they want their employees to emulate.

How do you design what you design? What is the typical thought process you go through? Have you considered interrogating the way you think and how you make (design) decisions in order to make better ones?
Often as Designers (which includes you “strategists” and “creatives”) due to habit, external pressures and lack of resources we can often get to solution mode too quickly. Even with the best tools, strategy, UX and design thinking methods in mind, rapid solutioning before proper questioning can often lead to far less than ideal outcomes.
With technology, formats and problem spaces evolving daily a very old but often unconsidered form of thinking, questioning, needs consideration. How can the skill of inquiry be developed to help us solve bigger (design) problems in more inspiring ways? In this deck (output from a talk) I discuss how the process of forming "beautiful" design questions can help strengthen your design process, revitalize the artifacts you make, help you get a seat at "the grown-up table" in your organization and prepare you for a world of never ending design.
From Content Strategy to Drupal Site Building - Connecting the dots
Content strategy is, undoubtedly, a hot topic these days. A lot is being said that spans the range from concerns regarding the ability to display content on any device to the ability to drive engagement and increase traffic through better content creation and social media strategies. In this presentation we will connect the dots between these issues and practical Drupal site-building concerns with tools that are readily available now.
We will show, through specific examples and references to available modules, how different approaches to content strategy can be practically implemented on Drupal sites. The aim is to equip Drupal site-builders with a handy toolkit that will allow them to both implement a content strategy for their sites as well as better exchange information with content strategists.
The examples will include:
- Different approaches to building content types so as to empower content creators to create a range of different structures.
- Best practices in using vocabularies (fixed, open, user-generated, moderated, etc) or where alternative categorization methods may be relevant.
We will also discuss:
- Editorial calendars and scheduling.
- The true benefit of workflows (and how, sometimes, they can be a disadvantage).
- Analytics and how the ability to measure the effects of any strategy is as important as defining the strategy itself.
Attendees will go away with practical examples and techniques that they can apply to their sites as well as a better understanding of what content strategy really is and how they can use it to improve their sites.
The examples are a result of our own experiences in helping both clients develop their content strategy as well as applying it on italymagazine.com, an in-house product of ours. We grew italymagazine.com to a relevant online digital brand with a strong community by expressing our content strategy ideas through the tools that Drupal 7 made available to us. The resulting ~250% increase in traffic over 3 months is a testament to both the value of a content strategy as well as the power of Drupal to allow you to flexibly and iteratively support it.

Thingmonk 2017: End-to-end IoT solutions are often highly integrated. Even small changes to the UX of a product can have profound impact on hardware requirements, while physical constraints such as battery capacity can dictate software architecture. A holistic understanding of IoT is key to efficient implementation, the “T-shaped engineer” the star in every development team. Contrast this to intellectual silos and matrix organisation, and you may see why especially large companies fail to move quickly into IoT. Similar issues strike the application of IoT. Deploying a solution in the enterprise is just a cost factor if processes are not adjusted to leverage the connected device and its data. However, changes in process often affect companies across their entire organisational structure. This can require a change of mindsets, making the success of an IoT solution depending on the human factor.
