Lessons-learned from embedding design into a developmental evaluation: The si...Chi Yan Lam, CE
Presented at the 2015 Annual Conference of the American Evaluation Association #eval15. ABSTRACT: Recent attempts at developmental evaluation (DE) are incorporating human-centered design (HCD) principles (Dorst, 2011; IDEO, n.d.) to facilitate program development. HCD promotes a design-oriented stance toward program development and articulates a set of values that focuses the evaluation beyond those ideals expressed by stakeholders. Embedding design into DE promises to offer a more powerful means to promoting program development beyond either approach alone. Yet, embedding design into DE introduces additional challenges. Drawing on a case study into a design-informed DE, this panelist discusses the tensions and challenges that arose as one developmental evaluator attempted to introduce design into a DE. Insights from the case study point to the importance of:
- Attending to power dynamics that could stifle or promote design integration; and,
- Evaluator sensitivity over the deep attachment program developers had over program decisions
These findings allude to the significance of organizational culture in enabling a design-informed DE.

Tech innovation is a major focus and the industry is welcoming an explosion of innovations designed to improve, among other things, life expectancy and quality of life.
Radical, revolutionary, transformational and exponential innovations are fundamentally disrupting old systems, creating new market constituents and new markets, while marginalizing old ones. Technology’s nonlinear pace of progress will almost certainly create substantial disruption in health, wellness and medical processes, technologies, and business models.

Covering top English Resume tips, mistakes, recommended resources.
Underemployment is a problem. A brilliant resume is a solution. Long gone is spending hours in the career center. Long gone are the days of amassing levels of debt which financially cripple graduates for decades.
We’ve been proud to work hand-in-hand with students to reinvent what it means to create a resume. Together we’re helping students in ways we never thought possible.
One well-considered resume can take the place of many poorly made ones. We think the traditional resume creation process is flawed and that it is possible to create higher quality resumes by rethinking traditional cycles of education, creation, and distribution.

Getting it Right: What Really Matters to Students In Social Media Communities...Corie Martin, Ed.D.
The use of social media in higher education recruitment is a common practice, often used to supplement more traditional print and email-based outreach methods. Are institutions doing all they can to strategically reach students during the yield period? Are we using the right media and messaging? In 2015, Dr. Corie Martin completed a nationwide research study on admissions and marketing recruitment outreach activities and observed thousands of student interactions within university social media communities. The results of the study showed what was really important to students and suggested how Higher Ed leadership might prepare for the next generation of prospective students.
The slides cover Introduction to Big Data and Data Science, as well as go over our current and future projects @eHarmony.
eHarmony was founded to give people a better chance to find happy, passionate and fulfilling relationships.
During this talk I will describe steps that we go through to create Compatible matches and how we leverage Big Data technologies to accomplish that goal.
I will specifically talk on how we take Billion+ potential matches that we find through MongoDB, store them in Voldemort NoSQL datastore and then run multiple Hadoop jobs to come up with filtered list based on Machine Learned models.
Our hadoop clusters are in-house, high density, low power Seamicro installations and we use Spring Batch and Spring Data Hadoop to orchestrate the hadoop jobs.
Did you know that eHarmony is responsible for 5% of all new US marriages and that more than 600,000 people already got married through us?
How To Build The Right Product Using Product Discovery TechniquesJacek Wieczorek
Many teams these days are focused on increasing output, without even thinking about the outcome. Attention is put on a number of features, higher velocity, and resource utilization. Although in an Excel file it looks good, we forget why and for whom we do it. As a result, we end up with products that nobody wants to use.
To avoid such situations, we should build a shared understanding of the product in the team and separate good ideas from the bad ones before we start the development process. This is what, among other benefits, product discovery is about.
After facing dozens of situations where a wrong product was built, I started incorporating product discovery techniques into products and projects that I was involved in. Things that I have learned are: start with a product vision, try to validate product ideas before you start developing them and maintain a common understanding of the product between team members.
During the presentation based on short case studies, you will learn how Product Discovery techniques like product vision board, customer interviews, and story mapping could help you to increase the chance to deliver the right product.
