Agricultural information is available online through 800 websites, 80 government websites, and 8 organizations. A farmers' portal provides information on these resources as well as dealers and government schemes. While internet usage is growing in rural India, only 4.6% have accessed it due to lack of infrastructure and knowledge. The mKisan SMS portal allows government departments to send SMS messages to farmers in their own languages with information. It uses services like USSD, IVRS, pull SMS, and push SMS to reach large numbers of farmers via their mobile phones. Farmers can register to receive push SMS advisories on topics relevant to them through various channels including a website, phone calls, SMS, or visiting government offices.

Information Communication Technology and Indian Agricultureijtsrd
Development of technology has opened new opportunities and dimensions for the agriculture sector in India. This technological advancement has enabled the country to shift from a period of traditional subsistence farming to an era of hi commercial farming. India today makes use of technology at every stage of agriculture right from production and processing till marketing. In spite of this, there still remain challenges in its complete adoption by small and marginal farmers which if suitably addressed could lead to the rapid growth of the primary sector in the future years. The Department of Agriculture & Cooperation (DAC), Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India launched Kisan Call Centers on January 21, 2004 across the country to deliver extension services to the farming community.
The purpose of these call centers is to respond to issues raised by farmers, instantly, in the local language. There are call centers for every state which are expected to handle traffic from any part of the country. Queries related to agriculture and allied sectors are being addressed through these call centers.
A farmer from any part of the State can contact the Kisan Call Centre by dialing the toll free Telephone No. 1551 or 1800-180-1551 and present their problems/queries related to farming. The operator at the Kisan Call centre will attempt to answer the problems/queries of the farmers immediately. In case the operator at the Call Center is not able to address the farmer's query immediately, the call will be forwarded to identified agricultural specialists.
