This document discusses a proposed hybrid power filter for harmonics and reactive power compensation in a single-phase rectifier system. The hybrid power filter combines a passive filter and active power filter. The passive filter is tuned to compensate for the 3rd and 5th order harmonics, while the active power filter compensates for the remaining harmonic components not addressed by the passive filter. This allows for a reduction in the rating and size of the active power filter components. The effectiveness of the hybrid power filter configuration is demonstrated through simulation results showing reduced harmonic distortion in the source current and improved power factor.
Design of shunt hybrid active power filter for compensating harmonic currents...TELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
For the past two decades, tremendous advancements have been achieved in the electricity industry. The usage of non-linear loads in the daily life has affected the power quality of the system and caused the presence of harmonics. To compensate the harmonic currents and reactive power in the system, the design of shunt hybrid active power filter has been proposed in this research. The design of the filter has included several control systems of instantaneous active and reactive power (p-q) theory and PI controller to investigate the performance of the filter. The robustness of the designed hybrid power filter has also been benchmarked with the other filter topologies available in literature. The hybrid power filter will combine passive power filter and active power filter configurated in shunt connection. The result of this research showed that the total harmonic distortion analyzed is below than 5% according to IEEE-519 standard requirements and reactive power is compensated proved by the increase in power factor. The shunt hybrid active power filter is designed, and simulation result is analyzed by using MATLAB-Simulink environment.

A proportional resonant current controller for selective harmonic compensathareesh hari
This paper deals with reactive power compensation
and harmonics elimination inmedium-voltage industrial networks
using a hybrid active power filter. It proposes a hybrid filter as a
combination of a three-phase, two-level, voltage-source converter
connected in parallel with the inductor of a shunt, single-tuned,
passive filter. This topological structure greatly decreases the
voltage and current stress over the elements of the active filter.
Since the topology is composed of a single-tuned branch, the
control algorithm also has to ensure sufficient filtering at other
harmonic frequencies. We propose using a proportional-resonant,
multiloop controller. Since the controller is implemented in a
synchronous-reference frame, it allows us to use half the number
of resonators, compared with the solution using proportional-integral
controllers in the harmonic-reference frame. Theoretical
analyses and simulation results obtained from an actual industrial
network model in PSCAD verify the viability and effectiveness
of the proposed hybrid filter. In addition, the simulation results
are validated by a comparison with the results obtained from a

A Novel Compensating Technique for Power Factor Improvement in Power Electron...IDES Editor
Power electronics systems are non-linear systems,
which consume more reactive power and also the loads they
feed are mostly inductive loads which leads to a poor power
factor. Various compensation techniques are available to bring
the power factor nearer to unity. In this paper, a novel
compensator is proposed, where in-phase and quadrature
components of the supply current are vector-controlled.
Implementation of this compensator in a power electronic
system operating with a very poor power factor (and hence
high THD), shows that the system then draws a leading
current. A conventional power electronic system, A
conventional power electronic system with one of the
traditional static VAR compensators and the conventional
power electronic system incorporated with the proposed
compensator are simulated and the simulation results are
obtained. It is shown that the proposed method offers only
0.7% THD, which also implies that the power factor is
improved.

Power factor improvement on LED lamp driver using BIFRED converterTELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
This paper presents the implementation of a power converter to improve power factor for LED lamp driver. The power converter which used in this system is the integration of boost and flyback converter (boost integrated flyback rectifier energy storage DC-DC/BIFRED). The boost converter as power factor correction (PFC) works on discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) operation to make the resistive converter. Thus, when a rectifier circuit supplies a resistive load, the load current that flows back to the source will have the same waveform as the voltage and it makes the power factor value next to 1 (unity). According to experiment results, the BIFRED converter as LED lamp driver can improve power factor from 0.84 to become 0.98 and this driver circuit also meets the line-current harmonic limits set by IEC61000-3-2 class C.
Performance Enhancement in Active Power Filter (APF) by FPGA Implementation IJECEIAES
The generated electrical power in present days is not able to meet its end-user requirement as power demand is gradually increasing and expected to be increasing more in future days. In the power quality management, the parameters/factors like harmonic currents (HC) and reactive power (RP) yields the major issues in the power distribution units causing transformer heating, line losses, and machine vibration. To overcome these issues, several control mechanisms have been presented and implemented in recent past. The control algorithm based on synchronous reference frame (SRF) offers a better response by dividing the HC and RP. But the SRF based control algorithm requires better synchronization among the utility voltage and input current. To achieve this, the existing researches have used digital signal processing (DSP) and microcontroller, but these systems fail to provide better performance as they face issues like limited sampling time, less accuracy, and high computational complexity. Thus, to enhance the performance of active power filter (APF), we present an FPGA based approach. Also, to validate the performance of the proposed approach, we have used Xilinx 14.7 and Modelsim (6.3f) simulator and compared with other previous work. From the results analysis, it is found that the approach has good performance.
Fuzzy Logic Controller based Bridgeless (BL) Isolated Interleaved Zeta Conver...IJPEDS-IAES
In recent times, high-brightness light emitting diodes (HB-LEDs) are
developing rapidly and it is confirmed to be the future development in
lighting not only because of their high efficiency and high reliability,
however also because of their other exceptional features: chromatic variety,
shock and vibration resistance, etc. In this paper, a bridgeless (BL) Isolated
Interleaved Zeta Converter is proposed for the purpose of reducing the diode
failures or losses; the value of output ripples also gets decreased. The
proposed BL isolated interleaved zeta converter operating in discontinuous
conduction mode (DCM) is used for controlling the brightness of LED
Driver with inherent PFC at ac mains using single voltage sensor. The fuzzy
logic controller (FLC) is used to adjust the Modulation Index of the voltage
controller in order to improve the dynamic response of LED Lamp driver.
Based on the error of converter output voltage, FLC is designed to select the
optimum Modulation Index of the voltage controller. The proposed LED
driver is simulated to achieve a unity power factor at ac mains for a wide
range of voltage control and supply voltage fluctuations.
The third order LLCL filter is gaining more attractive in grid connected PV inverter in terms of material cost saving than LCL filter. Several active and passive damping techniques prevail in mitigating the resonance problem for maintaining the grid power quality standards. In this paper an improved passive damping is examined with reduction of power loss for the LLCL filter. Particularly, it reduces the switching ripple much better than LCL filter, with a decrease in volume of the inductance. The filter design is also developed for the operation of stiff grid. Mathematical operations and transfer function are derived with frequency response for the accuracy of the filter design. In addition, comparative analysis of passive and improved passive damping control is proposed. The control strategy is improved with feedback linearization in order to avoid the glitches in inverter control and is verified with prototype grid connected PV inverter.
Power factor correction using bridgeless boost topologyDHEERAJ DHAKAR
Power quality is becoming a major concern for
many electrical users. The high power non linear loads
(such as adjustable speed drives, arc furnace, static power
converter etc) and low power loads (such as computer, fax
machine etc) produce voltage fluctuations, harmonic
currents and an inequality in network system which results
into low power factor operation of the power system. The
devices commonly used in industrial, commercial and
residential applications need to go through rectification for
their proper functioning and operation. Due to the
increasing demand of these devices, the line current
harmonics create a major problem by degrading the power
factor of the system thus affecting the performance of the
devices. Hence there is a need to reduce the input line
current harmonics so as to improve the power factor of the
system. This has led to designing of Power Factor
Correction circuits. Power Factor Correction (PFC)
involves two techniques, Active PFC and Passive PFC. An
active power factor circuit using Boost Converter is used for
improving the power factor. This thesis work analyzes the
procedural approach and benefits of applying Bridgeless
Boost Topology for improving the power factor over Boost
Converter Topology. A traditional design methodology
Boost Converter Topology is initially analyzed and
compared with the Bridgeless Boost topology and the
overall Power Factor (PF) can be improved to the
expectation. Method of re-shaping the input current
waveform to be similar pattern as the sinusoidal input
voltage is done by the Boost converter and the related
controls that act as a Power Factor Correction (PFC)
circuit. Higher efficiency can be achieved by using the
Bridgeless Boost Topology. In this paper simulation of Boost
Converter topology and Bridgeless PFC boost Converter is
presented. Performance comparisons between the
conventional PFC boost Converter and the Bridgeless PFC
Boost Converter is done.
Design and Simulation of Power Factor Correction Boost Converter using Hyster...ijtsrd
Nowadays various power converters like AC DC or DC DC are widely used due to their flexible output voltage and high efficiency. But these converters take the current in the form of pulses from the utility grid so that the high Total Harmonic Distortion THD and poor Power Factor PF are the major disadvantages of these converters. Hence there is a continuous need for PF improvement and reduction of line current harmonics. The most popular topology for Active Power Factor Correction APFC is a boost converter as it draws continuous input current. This input current can be manipulated by Hysteresis control technique. The boost converter can perform this type of active power factor correction in many discontinuous and continuous modes. The design and simulation of boost converter with power factor correction in continuous conduction mode is represented by using MATLAB SIMULINK software. Yu Yu Khin | Yan Aung Oo "Design and Simulation of Power Factor Correction Boost Converter using Hysteresis Control" Published in International Journal of Trend in Scientific Research and Development (ijtsrd), ISSN: 2456-6470, Volume-3 | Issue-5 , August 2019, URL: https://www.ijtsrd.com/papers/ijtsrd27905.pdfPaper URL: https://www.ijtsrd.com/engineering/electrical-engineering/27905/design-and-simulation-of-power-factor-correction-boost-converter-using-hysteresis-control/yu-yu-khin
This paper presents the optimization of PFC Cuk converter parameter design for the minimization of THD and voltage ripple. In this study, the PFC Cuk converter is designed to operate in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) in order to achieve almost unity power factor. The passive components, i.e., inductor and capacitor are designed based on switching frequency and resonant frequency. Nevertheless, the ranges of duty cycle for buck and boost operations are 0<D<0.5 and 0.5<D<1, respectively for the output voltage variation of the converter. The principle of the parameters design optimization is based on the balancing energy compensation between the input capacitor and output inductor for minimization of THD current. In addition, the selection of high output capacitance will minimize the output voltage ripple significantly. A 65 W PFC Cuk converter prototype is developed and experimentally tested to confirm the parameters design optimization principle. The experimental results show that the THD current is reduced to 4.5% from 61.3% and the output voltage ripple is reduced to 7 V from 18 V after parameters optimization are realized. Furthermore, it is confirmed that the output voltage ripple frequency is always double of the input line frequency, 50 Hz and the output voltage ripple is always lower than the maximum input voltage ripple.
The development of active power filter (APF) using rectifier boost technique has been identified to compensate for the pulsating nature of the distorted supply current waveform of non-linear load. In this work, investigation is carried out on the operation of rectifier without any filters function. This is then extended to operate the rectifier converter with an active power filter function. APF function is implemented by enabling the closed-loop control using standard proportional integral control to rectify the distorted supply current to become continuous, sinusoidal and in-phase with the supply voltage waveform. Consequently, the total harmonic distortion (THD) level was reduced to meet the acceptable limit defined in the standard of IEEE-519 1992. The selected simulation results obtained from MATLAB/Simulink are presented to justify the proposed filter structure.
Performance analysis of three phase shunt hybrid active power filtereSAT Journals
Abstract Active filtering of electric power has now become a mature technology for harmonic and reactive power Compensation in AC networks. The past several years have seen a rapid increase of power electronics-based loads connected to low and medium voltage power distribution systems. These loads draw non-sinusoidal current from the mains, degrading the power quality by causing harmonic distortion. This paper proposes a three phase Shunt Hybrid Active Filter (SHAF) topology for harmonic reduction and power factor improvement in low voltage power distribution systems. The compensation current reference for the proposed SHAF topology is obtained by using synchronous reference frame theorem. This theorem simplifies the equations for the current reference estimation in d-q co-ordinates thus leading to a more efficient and fast computation. To generate the compensation current that follows the current reference, the hysteresis current control method is adopted for 2-level VSI in low voltage system, the system is verified by developing simulation model using MATLAB/Simulink simulation package and the results are presented. The performance of shunt active filter and the proposed shunt hybrid active filter topology in reducing total harmonic distortion (THD) is compared for low voltage distribution system. Keywords: SAPF, SHPF, PI control, THD, Hysteresis current pulse width modulation, D-Q reference frame theory.

current harmonics so as to improve the power factor of the
The increase of nonlinear loads due to the proliferation of electronic equipment causes power quality in the power system to deteriorate. Harmonic current drawn from a supply by the nonlinear load results in the distortion of the supply voltage waveform at the point of common coupling (PCC) due to the source impedance. Both distorted current and voltage may cause end-user equipment to malfunction, conductors to overheat and may reduce the efficiency and life expectancy of the equipment connected at the PCC.

The quality of power is a major concern because of harmonics in the lines due to various sources. Passive filters have been used to eliminate the specific harmonics. In this paper shunt hybrid active power filter which consists of shunt active filter and shunt passive filter is designed to reduce harmonics in source side for non linear loads. The shunt passive filter includes a tuned RLC circuit that behaves like a band-pass filter for a particular harmonic content. The shunt active filter is a VSI that produces reverse harmonic current based on Clarke’s transformation. This paper presents the control strategy by implementing instantaneous reactive power theory to design Shunt Hybrid Active Filter (SHAPF) for a non linear load. The proposed control technique is simulated using MATLAB SIMULINK, Results prove there is considerable reduction in THD of source current from 30.35% to 3.25% with the proposed controller on shunt hybrid active power filter. The performance of SHAPF is better than Passive and Shunt Active Power Filters.

Active power filters are effective in mitigating line
current harmonics and compensating for the reactive power
in the line. There are basically two types of Active Power

used filters in industrial purposes, this is due not only to the
fact that eliminate the harmonic current but also they are
suitable for a wide range of power ratings. In this paper,

The Shunt Active Power Filter to Compensate Reactive Power and Harmonics with...ijtsrd
In this paper is to study the denomination Power quality and large refers to maintaining a proximal sinusoidal power distribution bus voltage at rated magnitude and frequency. This is mainly affected by the generation of harmonics. Even though electronic and non-linear devices are flexible, economical and energy efficient, they may degrade power quality by creating harmonic currents and consuming excessive reactive power. This paper shows the method of improving the power quality using shunt active power filter with proposed optimized PI. The proposed topic comprises of PI controller, filter hysteresis current control loop, dc link capacitor. The switching signal generation for filter is from hysteresis current controller techniques. With the all these element shunt active power filter reduce the total harmonic distortion. Its source current, compensating current and THD values are studied, then PI control strategy is applied then the differences in THD are compared. The PI feedback compensation design starts with the small signal system' transfer function. Then an optimum constant of PI for a Shunt-APF is proposed and implemented to enhance its response to compensation of harmonics of linear and non-linear loads. The obtained results have demonstrated the ability to compensate the current harmonics effectively under distorted source conditions. The fluctuation in the dc bus voltage of the filter depends on the compensation speed of the outer loop that regulates the dc bus voltage. The proposed shunt active filter model uses balanced linear and non-linear load works successfully lowers the THD within IEEE norms and satisfactorily works to compensate current harmonics. The model is made in MATLAB SIMULINK and successfully reduces the harmonic in the source current. design procedure to minimize harmonic distortion caused by a
harmonic source such as drives. The non – linear load
considered in this paper is six pulse rectifier load. Design and
simulation procedure with respect to this load is explained in
details. Several types of shunt harmonic filters are presented.
Shunt filters are effective in minimizing voltage distortion
caused by nonlinear loads in industrial power systems. Different
alternatives of filter design should be considered before making
the final decision on filter configuration. Among the criteria
used for performance evaluation are current, and voltage
ratings of each of the filter components. The design and
performance of single-tuned and high-pass filters and the
methodology used for the analysis will be discussed.
The major objectives in this study are to use shunt passive
filters for following -(i) to improve the power factor, (ii) to
reduce current and voltage distortion to standard limits, and
(iii) to reduce resonance problems, if any.

Optimal Placement of DG for Loss Reduction and Voltage Sag Mitigation in Radi...IDES Editor
This paper presents the need to operate the power
system economically and with optimum levels of voltages has
further led to an increase in interest in Distributed
Generation. In order to reduce the power losses and to improve
the voltage in the distribution system, distributed generators
(DGs) are connected to load bus. To reduce the total power
losses in the system, the most important process is to identify
the proper location for fixing and sizing of DGs. It presents a
new methodology using a new population based meta heuristic
approach namely Artificial Bee Colony algorithm(ABC) for
the placement of Distributed Generators(DG) in the radial
distribution systems to reduce the real power losses and to
improve the voltage profile, voltage sag mitigation. The power
loss reduction is important factor for utility companies because
it is directly proportional to the company benefits in a
competitive electricity market, while reaching the better power
quality standards is too important as it has vital effect on
customer orientation. In this paper an ABC algorithm is
developed to gain these goals all together. In order to evaluate
sag mitigation capability of the proposed algorithm, voltage
in voltage sensitive buses is investigated. An existing 20KV
network has been chosen as test network and results are
compared with the proposed method in the radial distribution
system.
Line Losses in the 14-Bus Power System Network using UPFCIDES Editor
Controlling power flow in modern power systems
can be made more flexible by the use of recent developments
in power electronic and computing control technology. The
Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) is a Flexible AC
transmission system (FACTS) device that can control all the
three system variables namely line reactance, magnitude and
phase angle difference of voltage across the line. The UPFC
provides a promising means to control power flow in modern
power systems. Essentially the performance depends on proper
control setting achievable through a power flow analysis
program. This paper presents a reliable method to meet the
requirements by developing a Newton-Raphson based load
flow calculation through which control settings of UPFC can
be determined for the pre-specified power flow between the
lines. The proposed method keeps Newton-Raphson Load Flow
(NRLF) algorithm intact and needs (little modification in the
Jacobian matrix). A MATLAB program has been developed to
calculate the control settings of UPFC and the power flow
between the lines after the load flow is converged. Case studies
have been performed on IEEE 5-bus system and 14-bus system
to show that the proposed method is effective. These studies
indicate that the method maintains the basic NRLF properties
such as fast computational speed, high degree of accuracy and
good convergence rate.
Study of Structural Behaviour of Gravity Dam with Various Features of Gallery...IDES Editor
The size and shape of opening in dam causes the
stress concentration, it also causes the stress variation in the
rest of the dam cross section. The gravity method of the analysis
does not consider the size of opening and the elastic property
of dam material. Thus the objective of study is comprises of
the Finite Element Method which considers the size of
opening, elastic property of material, and stress distribution
because of geometric discontinuity in cross section of dam.
Stress concentration inside the dam increases with the opening
in dam which results in the failure of dam. Hence it is
necessary to analyses large opening inside the dam. By making
the percentage area of opening constant and varying size and
shape of opening the analysis is carried out. For this purpose
a section of Koyna Dam is considered. Dam is defined as a
plane strain element in FEM, based on geometry and loading
condition. Thus this available information specified our path
of approach to carry out 2D plane strain analysis. The results
obtained are then compared mutually to get most efficient
way of providing large opening in the gravity dam.
Assessing Uncertainty of Pushover Analysis to Geometric ModelingIDES Editor
Pushover Analysis a popular tool for seismic
performance evaluation of existing and new structures and is
nonlinear Static procedure where in monotonically increasing
loads are applied to the structure till the structure is unable
to resist the further load .During the analysis, whatever the
strength of concrete and steel is adopted for analysis of
structure may not be the same when real structure is
constructed and the pushover analysis results are very sensitive
to material model adopted, geometric model adopted, location

analyzer. In this paper attempt has been made to assess
uncertainty in pushover analysis results by considering user
defined hinges and frame modeled as bare frame and frame

with experimental observations. Uncertain parameters
considered includes the strength of concrete, strength of steel
and cover to the reinforcement which are randomly generated
and incorporated into the analysis. The results are then

Selfish Node Isolation & Incentivation using Progressive ThresholdsIDES Editor
The problems associated with selfish nodes in
MANET are addressed by a collaborative watchdog approach
which reduces the detection time for selfish nodes thereby
improves the performance and accuracy of watchdogs[1]. In
the related works they make use of credit based systems, reputation
based mechanisms, pathrater and watchdog mechanism
to detect such selfish nodes. In this paper we follow an approach
of collaborative watchdog which reduces the detection
time for selfish nodes and also involves the removal of such
selfish nodes based on some progressively assessed thresholds.
The threshold gives the nodes a chance to stop misbehaving
before it is permanently deleted from the network.
The node passes through several isolation processes before it
is permanently removed. Another version of AODV protocol
is used here which allows the simulation of selfish nodes in
NS2 by adding or modifying log files in the protocol.
Various OSI Layer Attacks and Countermeasure to Enhance the Performance of WS...IDES Editor
Wireless sensor networks are networks having non
wired infrastructure and dynamic topology. In OSI model each
layer is prone to various attacks, which halts the performance
of a network .In this paper several attacks on four layers of
OSI model are discussed and security mechanism is described
to prevent attack in network layer i.e wormhole attack. In
Wormhole attack two or more malicious nodes makes a covert
channel which attracts the traffic towards itself by depicting a
low latency link and then start dropping and replaying packets
in the multi-path route. This paper proposes promiscuous mode
method to detect and isolate the malicious node during
wormhole attack by using Ad-hoc on demand distance vector
routing protocol (AODV) with omnidirectional antenna. The
methodology implemented notifies that the nodes which are
not participating in multi-path routing generates an alarm
message during delay and then detects and isolate the
malicious node from network. We also notice that not only
the same kind of attacks but also the same kind of
countermeasures can appear in multiple layer. For example,
misbehavior detection techniques can be applied to almost all
the layers we discussed.

Cloud Security and Data Integrity with Client Accountability FrameworkIDES Editor
The Cloud based services provide much efficient
and seamless ways for data sharing across the cloud. The fact
that the data owners no longer possess data makes it very
difficult to assure data confidentiality and to enable secure
data sharing in the cloud. Despite of all its advantages this
will remain a major limitation that acts as a barrier to the
wider deployment of cloud based services. One of the possible
ways for ensuring trust in this aspect is the introduction of
accountability feature in the cloud computing scenario. The
Cloud framework requires promotion of distributed
accountability for such dynamic environment[1]. In some
works, there‘s an accountable framework suggested to ensure
distributed accountability for data sharing by the generation
of only a log of data access, but without any embedded feedback
mechanism for owner permission towards data
protection[2].The proposed system is an enhanced client
accountability framework which provides an additional client
side verification for each access towards enhanced security of
data. The integrity of content of data which resides in the
cloud service provider is also maintained by secured
outsourcing. Besides, the authentication of JAR(Java Archive)
files are done to ensure file protection and to maintain a safer
environment for data sharing. The analysis of various
functionalities of the framework depicts both the
accountability and security feature in an efficient manner.
Genetic Algorithm based Layered Detection and Defense of HTTP BotnetIDES Editor
A System state in HTTP botnet uses HTTP protocol
for the creation of chain of Botnets thereby compromising
other systems. By using HTTP protocol and port number 80,
attacks can not only be hidden but also pass through the
firewall without being detected. The DPR based detection
leads to better analysis of botnet attacks [3]. However, it
provides only probabilistic detection of the attacker and also
time consuming and error prone. This paper proposes a Genetic
algorithm based layered approach for detecting as well as
preventing botnet attacks. The paper reviews p2p firewall

Performance evaluation is done based on precision, F-value

a low false positive rate.
Enhancing Data Storage Security in Cloud Computing Through SteganographyIDES Editor
in cloud computing data storage is a significant issue
because the entire data reside over a set of interconnected
resource pools that enables the data to be accessed through
virtual machines. It moves the application software’s and
databases to the large data centers where the management of
data is actually done. As the resource pools are situated over
various corners of the world, the management of data and
services may not be fully trustworthy. So, there are various
issues that need to be addressed with respect to the
management of data, service of data, privacy of data, security
of data etc. But the privacy and security of data is highly
challenging. To ensure privacy and security of data-at-rest in
cloud computing, we have proposed an effective and a novel
approach to ensure data security in cloud computing by means
of hiding data within images following is the concept of
steganography. The main objective of this paper is to prevent
data access from cloud data storage centers by unauthorized
users. This scheme perfectly stores data at cloud data storage
centers and retrieves data from it when it is needed.
The main tasks of a Wireless Sensor Network
(WSN) are data collection from its nodes and communication
of this data to the base station (BS). The protocols used for
communication among the WSN nodes and between the WSN
and the BS, must consider the resource constraints of nodes,
battery energy, computational capabilities and memory. The
WSN applications involve unattended operation of the network
over an extended period of time. In order to extend the lifetime
of a WSN, efficient routing protocols need to be adopted. The
proposed low power routing protocol based on tree-based
network structure reliably forwards the measured data towards
the BS using TDMA. An energy consumption analysis of the
WSN making use of this protocol is also carried out. It is
found that the network is energy efficient with an average
duty cycle of 0:7% for the WSN nodes. The OmNET++
simulation platform along with MiXiM framework is made
use of.
Permutation of Pixels within the Shares of Visual Cryptography using KBRP for...IDES Editor
The security of authentication of internet based
co-banking services should not be susceptible to high risks.
The passwords are highly vulnerable to virus attacks due to
the lack of high end embedding of security methods. In order
for the passwords to be more secure, people are generally
compelled to select jumbled up character based passwords
which are not only less memorable but are also equally prone
to insecurity. Multiple use of distributed shares has been
studied to solve the problem of authentication by algorithms
based on thresholding of pixels in image processing and visual
cryptography concepts where the subset of shares is considered
for the recovery of the original image for authentication using
correlation function[1][2].The main disadvantage in the above
study is the plain storage of shares and also one of the shares
is being supplied to the customer, which will lead to the
possibility of misuse by a third party. This paper proposes a
technique for scrambling of pixels by key based random
permutation (KBRP) within the shares before the
authentication has been attempted. Total number of shares to
be created is dependent on the multiplicity of ownership of
the account. By this method the problem of uncertainty among
the customers with regard to security, storage, retrieval of
holding of half of the shares is minimized.

Band Clustering for the Lossless Compression of AVIRIS Hyperspectral ImagesIDES Editor
Hyperspectral images can be efficiently compressed
through a linear predictive model, as for example the one
used in the SLSQ algorithm. In this paper we exploit this
predictive model on the AVIRIS images by individuating,
through an off-line approach, a common subset of bands, which
are not spectrally related with any other bands. These bands
are not useful as prediction reference for the SLSQ 3-D
predictive model and we need to encode them via other
prediction strategies which consider only spatial correlation.
We have obtained this subset by clustering the AVIRIS bands
via the clustering by compression approach. The main result
of this paper is the list of the bands, not related with the
others, for AVIRIS images. The clustering trees obtained for
AVIRIS and the relationship among bands they depict is also
an interesting starting point for future research.

Texture Unit based Monocular Real-world Scene Classification using SOM and KN...IDES Editor
In this paper a method is proposed to discriminate
real world scenes in to natural and manmade scenes of similar
depth. Global-roughness of a scene image varies as a function
of image-depth. Increase in image depth leads to increase in
roughness in manmade scenes; on the contrary natural scenes
exhibit smooth behavior at higher image depth. This particular
arrangement of pixels in scene structure can be well explained
by local texture information in a pixel and its neighborhood.
Our proposed method analyses local texture information of a
scene image using texture unit matrix. For final classification
we have used both supervised and unsupervised learning using
K-Nearest Neighbor classifier (KNN) and Self Organizing
Map (SOM) respectively. This technique is useful for online
classification due to very less computational complexity.

Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
