Microprocessors
What are microprocessors ?
• A microprocessor is a central processing unit.
• Microprocessors work on a single integrated circuit chip.
• The chip contains millions of small parts like transistors,
resistors and diodes.
• Microprocessors are made from silicon, quartz, metals, and
other chemicals.
• From start to finish, it takes about 2 months to make a
microprocessor.
How does a microprocessor work ?
A microprocessor works in three steps :
• Fetch
• Decode
• Execute
A.Fetch  An instruction from the computers memory is given to
the microprocessor.
B.Decode  The microprocessor figures out the operation to be
done.
C.Execute  The operation is performed.
Advantages of
microprocessors
• It can transfer data between different memory locations.
• The tiny microprocessor can easily fit in a device to
increase productivity.
• They are used to perform complex mathematical
operations.
• Microprocessors work at an incredible speed.
MICROPROCESSORS
AT HOME
SMART TELEVISIONS
A smart TV can be connected to internet to
use certain apps and has many smart features
like screen mirroring.
Quad core processes enable the smart features in this TV and make it
multitasking. The benefits of adding such processes are given below –
• It allows faster download of applications, and loading of web Pages.
• It allows you to switch between content faster.
• More powerful images processing ability to enhance motion clarity.
• It allows you to switch between content faster.
SMART WATCH
A smart watch is a wearable computing device that
closely resembles a wristwatch or other time-keeping
device.
• The microprocessor controls the working of these smart watches
from viewing the time to playing games.
• The microprocessor in a smartwatch is similar to a microprocessor in
a smartphone.
• Multi core processors are used make the watch
multitasking.
• Samsung uses exynos processors in its smart
watches.
Disadvantages of microprocessors
• It has the limit of the data size.
• Many of them do not support floating-point operation.
• A microprocessor gets damaged when it receives heat.
