2. PRINTER VS PLOTTER
◦ Printer is raster scan device that means it will
go on surfing or covering the full page area
and whenever printing is required there it will
print and wherever not needed it will not
print.
◦ Plotter is a vector scan output device.
◦ Vector scan means that printing will be done
on those part of the page, directly it will go to
their positions and go on drawing the
respective diagrams. Hence it will not scan the
full page area.
3. ◦ Plotter is a vector scan output device.
◦ Vector scan means that printing will be done on those part of the page, directly it will go to their positions and go on drawing the
respective diagrams. Hence it will not scan the full page area.
◦ In colour plotters the carriage acoomodates a number of pens with varying colurs and widths.
◦ The microprocessor in the plotter recievs intructions from the host computer and executes commands like ‘move’(moving the carriage
to a given position with pens up) and ‘draw’ (drawing geometric entities like point, line, arc, circle, etc.)
◦ Since the plotter is a vector device it can directly reach specific positions on paper which is being printed without following raster row
sequence.
◦ In flatebed plotter the paper lies flat and stationary while the pen moves from one location to another on paper.
◦ But in drum plotters the paper itself slides on a cylindrical drum and the pen oves over drum.
◦ Drum plotters can deal with huge papers and can be used for architectural drawing.
