order to facilitate the design, manufacture and quality assurance of precast civil growth products.
Regular attendance at national customer presentations & meetings together with Rocla sales engineers
and their customers is part of my national Sales Training initiative for civil products.
Reasons for leaving:
Re-structure of Rocla in Dec 2015 by owners Fletcher Building NZ resulting in 30 employees leaving the
company including GM, HR Manager, myself and others - after 16 years with Rocla, am looking for a new
challenge.
ROCLA PIPE – GUILDFORD, SYDNEY
Period: April 2002 - 2004
Position: PROJECT MANAGER – SPECIAL PROJECTS
Duties: Reporting to the General Manager and as a member of the Steering Committee, I was
responsible for the management of a highly confidential extruded product development
project, probably the largest of its kind that has been undertaken by Rocla. This required
extensive liaising with the Danish inventor together with the management of technical
consultants in Europe and internal resources comprising a Project Team of scientists,
mechanical, civil and process engineers.
Represented Rocla in 2002 at an international fibre composite conference and workshop in
Japan and attended practical demonstrations at Gifu University.
In 2003, I undertook in parallel a further geopolymer sewer pipe development project that
was planned for commercialisation in Dec 04
These projects passed the milestones of Prototyping, Design and Construction and are under
consideration for commercialisation.
ROCLA PAVERS & MASONRY – MOOREBANK, SYDNEY
Period: Aug 1999 – Mar 2002
Position: SALES ENGINEER
Duties: A leading Australian manufacturer of concrete blocks and paving products to the
commercial and domestic building markets. My role encompassed:
• specification selling to landscape architects, consulting engineers and specifiers in
councils and state departments
• incoming technical enquiries from architects, consulting engineers and builders
• developing promotional and advertising material for the commercial market
Reasons for I applied for the in-house position of National Marketing Manager for Rocla Pavers
leaving: - after being short-listed I was instead transferred to Rocla Pipeline Products as a full-time
Project Manager to manage a confidential high priority project.

Duties: Whilst working for All Metal Products I had seen an opportunity for importing manufactured
steel building products into Australia. For this reason Achiever Industrial Marketing was set
up and was successfully operated for over six years.
Veemesh medium security fencing systems can be seen in various locations such as
around Killara Golf Club and community centres in North Rocks Sydney. In addition our bid
for the supply of powder-coated HDG split-pale high security fencing for the Sydney
Olympic stadium came at a cost to competitor Gryffin in Melbourne.

ALL METAL PRODUCTS LTD - ST MARYS, WESTERN SYDNEY
Period: April 1996 - March 1997
Position: MANAGER
Duties: A manufacturer of metal products for the building, engineering, and cosmetic market
sectors. Staff complement of 65 personnel and 10,000 sq.m of factory floor area.
Reporting to the Managing Director my appointment brief included an immediate
assessment of current staffing together with sales and marketing issues. My marketing plan
introduced the “Engineers in Metal“ branding that later proved very successful.
A new cable support system was added to the product range after successful testing in the
market and was due for launching around mid-year. A vital feature of this system was
developed and patented in Australia by myself.

Reasons for The company was a family-owned business with two directors, both close to retirement.
leaving: Profit margins had been dropping steadily over the years with the result that most
products were selling at 1989 average prices - the company was up for sale in Nov 96.

Duties: A major manufacturer and supplier of steel products to the civil engineering, building,
construction and security industries - reporting directly to the Managing Director my duties
included:
• Member of the Company Management team, vice-chairman of the Steeledale
Group Marketing Committee, and chairman of the New Product Development

• Marketing - managing and controlling the Company sales and marketing
functions on a South African base including the annual business plan,
advertising, promotion, client liaison, tenders, branch distribution and product
costings.
• Technical – all new product design with relevant specifications as well as
existing product updates where necessary. All design and drawing work was
done personally - fully computer and CAD literate.
• R & D - managing and controlling the Research & Development function
including new product development and prototype testing, patent registration.
Three patents were registered by myself on behalf of Steeledale and included products
over a broad spectrum of industry.

GRINAKER ( PTY) LTD – JOHANNESBURG (now Aveng Infraset)
Dates: April 1984 - January 1989
Position: SALES & MARKETING MANAGER - MINING DIVISION
Duties: A specialist division manufacturing prestressed concrete products including railway
sleepers / retaining wall elements / floor slabs as well as glass-fibre reinforced concrete
products for the mining and construction industries.
Reporting to the Mining Division Director, my responsibilities included the sales and
marketing of all products. New prestressed concrete products were designed by myself
using in-house computer programmes.
Staff reporting to me: Two Area Sales Managers and Internal Sales person.
In October 1987, I represented Grinaker at the World Glass-Fibre Reinforced Concrete
Convention which was held in Edinburgh, Scotland and thereafter visited prestressed
concrete factories in Italy and Switzerland.

GRINAKER (PTY) LTD - ORANGE FREE STATE DIVISION
Dates: April 1981 - March 1984
Position: FACTORY MANAGER
Duties: The Orange Free State division of Grinaker comprised of a manufacturing
facility for prestressed and reinforced concrete products.
Reporting directly to the Branch Manager and as a member of the management team, I
was responsible for the overall factory operation necessary to meet production,
maintenance, quality and safety targets for the manufacture of prestressed concrete rail
sleepers, glass-fibre reinforced concrete drain channels and stormwater culverts.
