Over 30 years engineering experience in high-volume manufacturing environments, the majority
of which has been in the gas boiler industry. Self-motivated, innovative, a good communicator and
team player.
Reporting to Board level, am an experienced Project Manager with a track record of delivering to
cost, time and reliability targets. Most recently, project management responsibility from concept to
launch of a highly successful and award-winning range of wall-hung domestic condensing boilers
(to date over 1 million sold). Typical project value has ranged from £500k to £3.5m, with
timescales between 1 and 4 years.
Provided a driving role in the implementation of innovation through the selection of new materials,
processes and suppliers to reduce costs and improve reliability.
Substantial experience of product design gained through development of both domestic and
commercial boiler ranges, with regular use of Design FMEA as a key tool to evaluate design
solutions.
Further skills include technical problem solving, risk management, product cost management and
regular chairing of multidisciplinary project team meetings including the participation of UK,
European and worldwide suppliers.
Employment History
March 1985 to date: R & D Department, Ideal Boilers Limited, National Avenue, Hull
2013 to date: Programme Manager responsible for domestic wall-hung gas boiler product range.
Duties include the project planning and management of multiple projects, ensuring the effective
utilisation of resources to meet agreed time, cost and specification targets. Management of project
documentation and regular presentation of project Key Performance Indicators to Director level.
Chairing of value analysis and product reliability workshops. Additional responsibilities include
development of the New Product Introduction Process across all business functions and evaluation
of potential new manufacturing technologies.
1999-2013: Project Manager/Leader of a multidisciplinary team of up to 20 staff with
responsibility for specific projects from concept to launch including the ‘Logic’ range of boilers.
2. Scope of project work included the formulation of the product specification via customer-facing
clinics, determining Design for Manufacture (DFM) criteria and assessment of both internal and
external supplier capabilities.
1989-1999: Design Engineering Team Leader responsible for the design function within the
project team. The role involved creation of initial design layouts of new domestic boilers through
to final production drawings, using 2D & 3D CAD draughting tools. Duties also included the
preparation of development prototypes, creation of bill of materials and product cost management.
1987-1989: Development Engineer which involved practical experience of domestic boiler
performance testing to meet British Standard regulatory requirements for combustion, efficiency
and safety.
1985-1987: Design Engineer initially in the newly-formed Export Department concentrating on the
adaptation of UK products for overseas markets. This was followed by involvement in the design
of UK focussed products.
Sept 1984 to March 1985: Gateway Fabrications, Gilberdyke, East Yorkshire
Technical Assistant responsible for the design and manual draughting of structural steelwork
fabrications.
Sept 1977 to Sept 1984: Priestman Brothers Limited, Hedon Road, Hull
Time served 4 year apprenticeship as a Technician Draughtsman (first year conducted on site in
specialised training school; next 3 years practical training across various company departments).
Gained ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award upon completion of apprenticeship.
