Mexico to get it even if it meant going to war. The Mexican war started in 1846. The battle locations
ranged from northern California to Mexico city. The events leading up to the war were the Texas
revolution and a treaty between Texas and the United States. The question asked in this essay is, was

With President Trumps proposal to build a wall between Mexico and the United States, this has
caused a large backlash from the Hispanic community in Texas, therefore resulting in the numbers
seen in the 2016 election.
State and congressional leanings
As stated earlier, this past election has seen surprising numbers in the way Texans are voting.
Though much of the state, including the 19th congressional district, has remained red. Many of the
state's cities and suburbs have turned blue. This is due in part by the large Hispanic population in
Texas. According to an article published by usnews.com it states, "Today, at slightly more than 28
percent, Texas has the second highest share of eligible voters who are Hispanic of any state in the
nation..." However, Hispanics are not the only ones to blame for the shift in voting Texas has seen.
The millennial generation is more progressive, and in turn tends to vote democratic. The

The United States wanted to expand its territory toward the West and the Southwest during the
Market Revolution in search for raw materials. After gaining its independence from Spain in 1821,

that, Native groups such as the Apache and the Comanche returned to raid its supply. They

Manifest Destiny was the idea that it was America's destiny to spread across the entire continent of
North America. It was started by a group of expansionist called the Young American Movement and
they were affiliated with the Democratic Party. By their idea, America was able to double its size
and obtain new land from Mexico and Britain. However, this also caused pain to the Native
Americans. In the end, America obtained new land, and its people achieved what they believed to be
their God given right to expand and move west. The idea of moving West started in the mid–
nineteenth century. Editor Horace Greely said "Go west, young man" which encouraged many
people to move west. The Journey Westward was hard on many families. They were being uprooted
and leaving their homes. They sold their farms and homes in the east and packed wagons with

While any constitution has the right to secede, it may be nothing more than an entertaining, and
persistent urban myth. It provides a useful advantage point from which to think about Texas' role in
the United States. With the economy being the 12th largest economy compared to any other country
in the world, could Texas go it alone? Should Texas go at it alone?
While we could, it will be detrimental, even though Texas is the second largest state of the fifty
states in this country. Geographically it is located in the south central part of the country. Texas also

intuition of an oil producing firm with enough market power to face a downward sloping demand
schedule, OPEC, would have it so production is scaled back in order to drive prices back up to
former levels, however, this is not the case of what happened. OPEC, along with its lead producing
country, Saudi Arabia, has been producing at their maximum production capacity in order to saturate
the market as much as possible and drive oil prices down even lower.

Oral Interview With Vanna Moore Essay
On September of 2016, I did an oral interview with Vanna Moore about her military past and
Vanna's ties to Texas. Over the whole interview I asked her questions about her experience in
Afghanistan and along the way I asked her questions about Texas. To the best of my knowledge
Vanna answered "who are these people, these Texans", what do Texans tell us about America, and
what she thought of Texas. We talked about how her military experience shaped her conceptions of
Texas. In a setting such as this one and her experiences combined she had moments where she
seemed more comfortable and opened, and other moments that were difficult to get through. After
this oral interview experience I feel as though I know how I could use oral histories in my
classroom. During the beginning of the interview I asked Vanna "What do you think the difference is
between West Texas and Texas from other regions of the state?" Her answer consisted of a lot of
"umms", but I think she answers the question "Who are these people, these Texans" in this statement
"So, it's kinda like our own little world. And. But the people, the people I don't know. I guess it's.

Before my big move to Houston about three years ago for college, it was my last summer back
home in a little city called Amarillo, which is considered "West Texas," although it's actually located
geographically north within the heart of the Texas Panhandle. I was enjoying every last bits of the
time that I've had left with my friends and family. The last thing I could think of worrying about
during that summer was a romantic relationship. My intentions were to make bittersweet memories
and to have what they would call, fun. I went out almost every single weekend for the first month of
my last summer and met tons of friends and I became closer to old casual friends. Within that first
month of consistently going out and hanging out with all these friends that I became close to, I met a

Technology's Influence on America's Growth
The economy of the United States changing rapidly. By the 1850s, more people were buying and
selling goods instead of producing goods for their own use. Capitalism was leading this change that
gave private individuals and companies the right to own factories, machines, and land. Business
owners were now investing their own money to make profits.
Capitalism brought change to farmers' lives, too. The increasing populations needed more food.
Farmers were starting to used machines to plant and harvest their crops instead of doing all the labor
manually. This allowed them to grow more food to sell. In turn, farmers bought manufactured goods
with the money they earned from selling crops. As the market for goods increased, the prices came
down and allowed more people to purchase items.
People bought themselves new conveniences, such as shoes and boots coated with rubber or a new
sewing machine. The telegraph allowed almost instant communication across great distances.
Steamboats reduced both time and cost of river travel. Canals were dug in regions without passable

In all of the places that both sides of my family have lived they've mostly had jobs in agriculture.
They interact with the environment by using the land to grow crops and to graze their animals. This
has most likely led to some desertification in Mexico and south Texas.

Alice– Alice attracted parts of my family for its factories, and the agriculture business there.
Pharr–Pharr attracted my parents for the myriad of banks and small business at the time.
Edinburg–Edinburg provided good jobs, and a decent public education system for my sisters and I.
McAllen–Attracted my family for its proximity to my grandparent's ranch, and still gave them all
the opportunities as new American citizens.

Tamaulipas–Tamaulipas did not necessarily draw my family to it, it more so nudged them away.
They felt as though there were not enough jobs in the state to support them.
Oaxaca–Like Tamaulipas, it did not keep my family there, they moved away to find better jobs.

This theory is the belief of something new coming in and killing something old. I believe the Texas
economy has exemplified this theory towards the sources of the Texas economy. For example,

West Texas A & M's Midsummer Nights Dream
This summer I had the wonderful opportunity to see West Texas A&M's summer production of
William Shakespeare's Midsummer Nights Dream. It was a beautiful show that had the intended
message to explore the idea of love and how it preservers through hardship and misunderstanding if
you truly belong together. Through out the ages this theme of young love has remained relevant and
still applies today. Teenagers and young adults alike continue to hunt for young love often
disregarding approval from their parents much like the characters in Midsummer Nights Dream. The
cast of this production took this classic to keeping true to the original theme while adding a few
modern touches to the costumes to keep the show interesting and pertinent to today's reality. The use

together because the director took this couple and dressed them in the same royal blue and yellow to
signify their relationship, and how even though Lysander falls in love with Helena during the course

The movement of people that has resulted in the settlement of America is one of the most
fascinating and significant topics in the history of the United States. Nowhere else has an area of
equal size been settled as a result of the initiative of small groups and individuals. Westward

The first organized migration to California originated in Platte County, on the far western frontier of

On September of 2016, I did an oral interview with Vanna Moore about her military past and
