Television broadcasting began in Berlin in 1935 with the first electronically scanned TV service. The BBC launched the first regular high-definition TV service in 1936 from Alexandra Palace in London, establishing it as the birthplace of modern television. The first TV sponsorship occurred in 1946 in the US during a baseball game, where Bulova paid $9 for a 10-second advertisement. Today, 30-second TV sponsorships can cost up to $180,000. Media Life is a course intended for undergraduate students across campus. Its goal is to make people aware of the role that media play in their everyday life. The key to understanding a "media life" is to see our lives not as lived WITH media (which would lead to a focus on media effects and media-centric theories of society), but rather IN media (where the distinction between what we do with and without media dissolves).

In the summer of 2011 Havas Sports & Entertainment led a comprehensive onsite and online study looking at fans' attitudes towards brands with respect to their involvement with music festivals across Europe.
One of the largest of its kind, completed at six major festivals across six countries and involving 2,244 surveys, the study explored who music festival goers are, their leisure habits and media consumption, as well as their attitude towards and interaction with brands at festivals.
The outcome of the study has given us some really interesting insights and statistics, notably that music fans believe that sponsors improve the festival experience. Festival goers appreciate brand involvement, and actively take part in their activations And so, sponsor brands that master the art of brand engagement to create activations that really involve music fans make the festival experience even better.
We had to condense three months of research into these, so if you want to find out more about what matters most to festival goers and how brands bring festivals to life, please contact christopher.rapaport@havas-se.com

It is mind-blowing to think how far we've come since
the introduction of motion films and television in the early 1900s. The Internet has revolutionized video technology and the web video industry shows no signs of slowing
down. With sites like YouTube and online streaming rapidly replacing television and traditional video formats, we now have access to billions of hours of digital video content readily available at our fingertips thanks to the Internet and modern mobile devices. Here’s a look at some of the major milestones in the history and development of online video technology.

2. Television Broadcasting History
The world's first electronically scanned TV service
began in Berlin in 1935. The first broadcast however
was a year later in 1936 which a live showing of the
Olympic games.
The BBC first transmitted on 2nd November 1936, and
had the first regular high – definition service from the
Victorian Alexandra Palace in north London. It
therefore could be seen as the birthplace of television
broadcasting as we know it today.
3. Television Sponsorships
The first television sponsorship was in 1946 in the USA, during a
baseball game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Brooklyn
Dodgers. Bulova paid $9 for a 10 second ad which showed a Bulova
clock with a map of the united states. The announcer read out “America
runs on Bulova time” as the advert showed.
In todays modern age sponsorships are a lot more commonly seen on
TV as there are many more channels and many more programs which
have the opportunity to take out sponsorship deals, in comparison to
when the first sponsorship was shown in 1946. The increased amount of
channels and TV programs means that sponsorships are easily
accessible and are getting cheaper as more content is available to
choose from.
Today a 30 second television sponsorship for example can cost up to
$180,000.
4. Brief Internet History
Tim Berners-Lee invented the internet
(version 1.0) from Switzerland in 1991. He
is a English computer scientist who
implemented the first successful
communication to a client via the internet.
He is now the director of the world wide
web consortium which oversees the web’s
continued development.
5. Web 2.0
Web 2.0 was introduced in 2002
The introduction of web 2.0 allowed people to be more
interactive as the internet begun to hold things such as
images, music and video
Web 2.0 refers too World Wide Web sites that use
technology beyond the static pages of earlier Web
sites. The term was coined in 1999 by Darcy DiNucci,
this term was popularized by Tim O'Reilly at the
O'Reilly Media Web 2.0 conference in late 2004
Web 2.0 allowed for sites such as YouTube, Twitter and
Facebook to be created, all of which are heavily used
today by millions of people, YouTube has 1 billion
unique users every month
6. Web Pop Ups
Ethan Zuckerman invented the pop up in the late
1990’s, they were first launched on the website
Tripod.com
A variation of the web pop up is the pop-under
advertisement, this opens a completely new browser
the window which is currently open.
In the modern day Pop-ups are heavily used and is one
of the cheapest and most simple ways to advertise
through the internet, even large companies today such
as McAfee use pop-ups as a way of installing software.
However many people may find them annoying and are
therefore unlikely to take notice in what they are trying
to advertise. Pop ups can even be blocked all together if
an individual wishes to do so on their computer.
