3. Development of TV
Advertisement
Since the first UK advertisement in 1955 on ITV, many more
channels have been established and streamed across
television, which has resulted in an increased amount of
adverts. The fact that advertising has become so much more
popular on television has meant that the cost of advertising
has decreased in recent years, having more channels also
makes advertisement keeper as there is more potential
stations from which a business may decide to show their
advert on. As new technology’s have been created over the
years since the first advertisements, such as better quality
cameras and colour television, the quality of advertisements
on TV as a whole have improved.

So companies/businesses can make sure that people are
aware of their product
In the long run profits can be made due to increased sales
through advertising
TV companies can make profits by allowing air time for
certain products which a business/company may be
promoting
5. The first ever TV
advertisements
The very first TV advertisement was in the USA during the
year 1941 on July 1st. This advert was shown on the New
York station WNBT during a baseball game between the
Brooklyn Dodgers and the Philadelphia Phillies. This
advert was for the watchmaker Bulova and cost them $9.
In the UK the first TV advertisement was shown on ITV on
the 21st September 1955. This advertisement was for
Gibbs SR Toothpaste.
At first TV advertisement was only affordable to large wealthy
businesses and companies as it involved making large
investments. However new technology developments around
1990 in desktop video allowed smaller business to start
producing adverts at an affordable expense.
6. Successful TV advert
Evian baby & me:
• This advert is to advertise Evian water, although the product is not
shown in the action of the footage, it is simply shown at the end of
the advert.
• The action of the characters within the advert seeing themselves as
babies is meant to represent the fact that Evian is good for your
body. The slogan for the product which is heard at the end ‘live
young’, has been taken to the extreme as these babies are a clear
representation of young healthy people.
• Both the male and female characters within this advert range from
all different ages and ethnicity's, in order to show that this product
is good for anyone’s health, therefore making the target market
wide.
• This advert has over 93 million views on YouTube and has become
in a way a trade mark to the Evian company
7. Successful adverts
The most successful advert of all time when looking at
volume of views on YouTube is the Angry Birds Cinematic
Trailer advert
This advert has over 100 million views on YouTube and is
receiving more everyday
Success of this advert is projected by the sales figures of
this android app, as it is the most downloaded app across
all android phones, with over 500million downloads world
wide
Angry Birds generated $71 million in profits throughout the
2012 year
8. First ever newspaper
advertisements
The first ever newspaper advert was published in the
Boston News-Letter in 1704, it was an announcement
seeking a buyer for an Oyster Bay, Long Island estate
1729 Benjamin Franklin begun publishing the
Pennsylvania Gazette in Philadelphia, this paper pages
which we’re devoted to news advertisements
1742 Benjamin Franklin's General Magazine prints the
first American magazine ads
9. First ever radio advertisement
The first ever radio advert was run by AT&T on the station
WEAF in New York during the year of 1922, this is seen as
the birth commercial radio
