John Logie Baird invented the first television set in 1926 using scissors, an old tea chest, and sealing wax. Early television systems used mechanical disks to scan images but were replaced by electronic television invented by Philo Farnsworth in 1927 using cathode ray tubes instead of mechanical parts. Television provides news, entertainment, and education across commercial, public, and subscription services but can also encourage unhealthy behaviors if overused.

Late 1800s
Paul Gottlieb Nipkow- developed the first ever
mechanical module of television. He succeeded in
sending images through wires with the help of a
rotating metal disk. This technology was called the
“electric telescope”that had 18 lines of resolution.

A.A. Campbell-Swinton and Boris Rosing, used
the cathode ray tube in addition to the
mechanical scanner system, to create a new
television system.
From the experiments of Nipkow and Rosing,
two types of television systems came into
existence: mechanical television and
electronic television.

1923
Charles Jenkins used the disk idea of Nipkow to invent the
first ever practical mechanical television system.
1931
His Radiovisor Model 100 was being sold in a complete kit
as a mechanical television.
1926
John Logie Baird, was the first person to have succeeded in
transmitting moving pictures through the mechanical disk
system started by Nipkow. He also started the first ever TV
studio.

electronic system, which is what is being used even

Philo Taylor Farnsworth had created the first

rotating disks and other mechanical aspects of

Public TV stations offer may combine entertainment
and cultural enrichment. They telecast such things as
play by leading dramatists, ballets and symphonies,
and surveys of art and history.
Subscription Television
Subscription television is television
broadcasting paid for by the viewers. Most
subscription TV is made up of cable system.

 News, current events and historical programming can help
make young people more aware of other cultures and people.
 Television keeps us informed of all current affairs in the world
 One can have a weather forecast and accordingly plan several
things before time.
 It entertains.
 Television helps us enrich our spiritual lives.

 Viewers sometimes imitate violent, criminal, sexual, or other
risky behavior they see on television... and end up in trouble,
in jail, or in a hospital as a result.
 Watching too much television is not good for your health.
 It's a waste of time.
 Television's hidden agenda is consumerism
