Bauer Media's classic rock magazine Mojo had
an average monthly circulation of 98,484 in the
second half of last year, down 2% year on year
but up 0.8% on the previous six months. It
overtook fellow Bauer title Q, which fell 8% year
on year and 5.4% on the first half of the year to
94,811.” (The Guardian- Feb 2010). These results
show that many of Baur’s top magazines are very
popular, and could be worthy of funding my
magazine.

Bauer Media is a division of the Bauer Media Group,
Europe’s largest privately owned publishing Group.
The Group is a worldwide media empire offering
over 300 magazines in 15 countries, as well as
online, TV and radio stations.

Q readership estimates for survey ending
June 2012
Reach: It was read by 369,000 adults.%
age reach: It was read by 0.7% of the
adult population.

Mojo, Q, and Kerrang are all
funded and owned by Bauer

‘As a broadcaster and publisher Bauer Media’s challenge is
to anticipate consumer trends and work with technological
developments to ensure our content is available whenever,
wherever and however.’
‘IPC Media is the UK's leading
consumer magazine and digital
publisher’
With more than 60 media
brands, IPC creates content
for multiple platforms, across
print, online, mobile, tablets
and events. They engage with
26 million UK adults - almost
two thirds of UK women and
over 40% of UK men. Their
award winning portfolio of
websites reaches over 25
million global users every
month.

NME, Nuts, Uncut, Style at
home and many other
brands are published by IPC.

IPC Media revealed
in June 2010 that
uncut was ‘UK’s
most authorative
music and movie
magazine’ with an
overall circulation
of almost 75k.

In May 2008 the magazine Nme received a redesign,
aimed at an older readership with a less poppy and
more classic vibe. The first issue of the redesign
featured a free seven-inch Coldplay vinyl single.
Circulation of the magazine has fallen continuously
since 2003. In the second half of 2011, the magazine's
circulation was 23,924, 66% down on a 2003 figure of
72,442. This could be due to the fact that many of the
magazine’s old fans believe it has changed it’s style, and
as a result, IPC are receiving a financial blow.
I have come to the conclusion that I am going
to use Bauer media as my chosen publisher.
The main reason for this is the fact that they
have published magazines ‘Mojo’ and ‘Q’, both
of which are indie rock of a very similar style to
the magazine I intend to create. This helps me
feel secure that Bauer have experience in this
field, which is proven by the success of both
‘Mojo’ and ‘Q’. Another partial factor was the
fact that IPC’s NME magazine has recently
been receiving bad press, which is giving IPC a
bad name as a publisher, so if I was to publish
my magazine which is of a similar genre to
Nme, I might suffer the same blow as Nme has.
In terms of statistics, there wasn’t much
between the two publishers, and this made my
decision slightly harder.
