QUESTION THREE
What kind of media institution might distribute your media
                   product and why?
TOP PUBLISHING
  COMPANIES
BAUER MEDIA GROUP
Bauer Media Group is a multinational media company
headquartered in Germany. It operates in 15 countries
worldwide. The company has been privately owned and under
management by the Bauer family since it was founded in 1875.
Worldwide circulation of Bauer Media Group's magazine titles
amounts to 38 million magazines a week. As well as having a
50% stake in the British television company Box Television, Bauer
Media Group is responsible for publishing two major music
magazines, Q and Kerrang! Bauer Media Group has an
impressive annual turnover of over €2 billion (2010).
IPC MEDIA
IPC Media (International Publishing Corporation) is a subsidiary
of Time Inc. It is a consumer magazine and digital publisher in
the United Kingdom with a large portfolio, selling over 350
million copies each year. As one of the UK’s largest magazine
publishers, it targets over 26 million UK adults. IPC Media
groups its current titles under three magazine divisions, each
focusing on a core audience: Connect (mass market women),
SouthBank (upmarket women) and Inspire (men). An example
of a popular music magazine published by IPC Media is NME.
ELECTRIC MAGAZINE
I believe that Bauer Media Group would be best suited to
publishing Electric magazine because it is a multinational
publishing company already known for printing two major music
magazines (Q and Kerrang!). My magazine has a similar style to
Q (glossy and professional) and a similar target audience so
they already represent what I want Electric magazine to be.
Bauer Media Group also has a 50% stake in Box Television
which produces several popular music television channels such
as 4Music and Smash Hits, so this would give Electric magazine
the opportunity to branch into TV after becoming an
                 established dance music magazine.
ADVERTISING
Music magazines make a large sum of their money through
advertising for companies and products on pages throughout
their magazine. The adverts tend to relate to the type of
magazine and the audience it’s targeted at. Considering that
Electric music magazine is of the dance genre and targeted at
young adults, below are some of the brands I can see Electric
                        advertising for:
APPS & ‘ONLINE PRESENCE’
Given the target audience and genre of Electric magazine, I
believe it is important for it to have an online presence. This
would include its own website where the latest news, gig info
and more interactive features can be found, as well as pages on
Facebook, a profile on Twitter and a YouTube channel. This
ensures a more personal relationship with Electric readers and
helps them engage with the magazine on a further level. I also
think it would be beneficial for Electric magazine to be available
electronically for iPhone, iPad and Kindle users, ensuring it is
reaching out to a wide target audience. I do not think an
individual app for Electric magazine would be necessary until it
                     has an established fan base.
