• An institution is an organisation or company,
public or privately owned that produces and
or distributes media products.
• They have certain rules and regulations of
cultural practice and the way they are
organised. They can constrain and control our
lives.

3. Media Institutions
• There are a couple of main media institutions.
These are;
• The International Publishing Company
• Bauer Media Group
• Immediate Media Company.
• These media institutions produce and
distribute media products worldwide

4. “Q” Magazine
• The institution that produces and distributes
Q magazine is Bauer.
• Bauer Media Group is a large European based
media company that manages a range of
magazines, digital products, radio and TV
stations across the world.

5. “Kerrang!” Magazine
• The institution that produces and distributes
Kerrang magazine is Bauer.
• “Each issue will include a balance of bands
and scenes to guarantee that we’re providing
for our readers’ need for variety and their
passionate appetite for their favourite bands
as well as their desire to be introduced to new
music within our world”

6. “MOJO” Magazine
• The institution that produces and distributes
MOJO magazine is Bauer.
• MOJO is the world’s largest UK music
magazine, delivering a monthly dose of world
class journalism and iconic photography to an
audience of extremely passionate music
consumers.

• The institution that produces and distributes
NME magazine is Time Inc (International
Publishing Company).
• First for music news and the home of the
world’s most iconic music magazine
• In 2013, NME was crowned Music Media
Brand of the Year at the Music Week Awards.

8. “Uncut” Magazine
• The institution that produces and distributes
Uncut magazine is Time Inc (International
Publishing Company).
• Rock, classic indie and Americana are Uncut
readers’ favourite music genres.
• Uncut has been twice voted the PPA
(Professional Publishers Association) Magazine
of the Year and the PPA International
Magazine of the Year.

9. “Music” Magazine
• The institution that produces and distributes
Music magazine is Immediate Media
Company.
• BBC Music Magazine is a monthly magazine.
The first issue appeared in June 1992.
• BBC Worldwide was the original publisher but
Immediate Media Company has been the
publisher since 2012.

10. My Magazine
• I would like Time Inc to distribute my media
magazine.
• This is because they have experience in
producing music magazines but they have no
current magazines that would have the same
genre as my magazine. Therefore there would
be no competition within the company.
