The sub genre chosen for the magazine is house music, as there is space in the market for a magazine focused on this genre given the lack of existing options and broad appeal among different ages. The first issue of Mix Mag was published in 1983 as a DJ newsletter and later expanded to cover all dance music and club culture during the rise of acid house and rave scenes. Throughout the 1990s, the magazine grew more popular with both a young clubgoing audience and wider range. Development Hell LTD would be chosen as the publisher since they have successfully published Mix Mag for years and are well-known and experienced in the dance music magazine field.

2. Sub Genre
The sub genre I have chosen to base my magazine on is house. I have chosen
to use this sub genre as there is a space in the market for this particular type
of magazine as there is not many of these magazines currently existing and
the target audience is a large variety of different people consisting as all ages
as many people are started to show an interest in djing and starting to attend
raves. I have chosen this sub genre as this is the music that I take an interest
in.

3. The history of mix mag
The first ever issue of mix mag was printed on the 1st of February 1983. This was published by discomixclub, a
dj mailout service. The first editor was Tony Prince. When house music began editor and Dj Dave Seaman
turned the magazine from a news letter for DJs to a magazine which featured all dance music and club culture.
It covered acid house for the rave era and then moved onto the rise of DJs in Ibiza. The magazine reached a
circulation of up to 70,000 copies during the popular era of acid house. Throughout the 1990’s the magazine
continued to get more and more popular. The magazine had been very tightly aimed at young clubbers but this
then went on to be a wider ranged audience. In 2001 the magazine teamed up with Virgin records and together
they made an album of the best 42 dance songs, these were selected by the magazine.

Development Hell LTD is an independent media company based in London.
They currently publish the market leading international music magazine, Mix
Mag. As well as mixmag.net, mixmag tv, mixmag events and dontstayin.com,
the worlds biggest clubbing social network. They have provided consultancy
for some of Britain's biggest publishers and produced tour leaflets for some of
the biggest artists in the world. I would choose this publisher for my magazine
as they have published one of the biggest dance music magazines for years so
they are well known, popular and they know what they are doing.
