Cells and tissues carry out all chemical activities needed to sustain life. Cells are the basic building blocks and come in many types but all share a nucleus, cytoplasm, and plasma membrane. Within the cell are various organelles that carry out specific functions necessary for cell processes like metabolism, transport, and waste removal. Tissues consist of groups of cells similar in structure working together to perform a common function.
