Anything that takes up space and has mass is called matter, which is made of tiny molecules. There are three states of matter - solid, liquid, and gas - depending on how the molecules are arranged. Matter can change states through processes like evaporation, where liquid turns to gas when heated, condensation, where gas cools and turns back to liquid, and freezing, where liquid water changes to solid ice.
