Factors affecting undergraduate students’ motivation at a university in Tra Vinh
ABSTRACT: Motivation plays an important role in foreign language learning process. This study aimed to
investigate student’s motivation patterns towards English language learning at a University in Tra Vinh, and factors
affecting their motivation change toward English language learning of non-English-major students in the semester.
The researcher used semi-structured interview at the first phase of choosing the participants and writing reflection
through the instrument called “My English Learning Motivation History” adapted from Sawyer (2007) to collect
qualitative data within 15 weeks. The participants consisted of nine first year non-English-major students who learning
General English at pre-intermediate level. They were chosen and divided into three groups of three members each
(high motivation group; average motivation group; and low motivation group). The results of the present study
identified six visual motivation patterns of three groups of students with different motivation fluctuation, through the
use of cluster analysis. The study also indicated a diversity of factors affecting students’ motivation involving internal
factors as influencing factors (cognitive, psychology, and emotion) and external factors as social factors (instructor,
peers, family, and learning environment) during English language learning in a period of 15 weeks. The findings of
the study helped teacher understand relationship of motivation change and its influential factors. Furthermore, the
findings also inspired next research about motivation development in learning English process.

with employee performance at PT Telkom Akses Area Cirebon, both concurrently and partially. Employing a
quantitative approach, the study's objectives are descriptive and causal, adopting a positivist paradigm with a
deductive approach to theory development and a survey research strategy. Findings reveal that work stress
negatively and significantly impacts employee performance, while digital literacy positively and significantly
affects it. Simultaneously, work stress and digital literacy have a positive and significant influence on employee
performance. It is anticipated that company management will devise workload management strategies to
alleviate work stress and assess the implementation of more efficient digital technology to enhance employee
performance.

- 3. Masthead Names PUNK! I think this is a good masthead for my magazine as it is a punk rock magazine this name immediately tells the reader exactly what to expect from/in the magazine. Also it stands out quite well as it is quite loud. MAYHEM This masthead is also one of my favourites, I think it is a bit unusual and it have connotations of being chaotic just like some people’s interpretation of punk rock could be, also it is a bit longer so it creates more variation in my ideas. ANARCHY I do really like this masthead name, however it is very similar to ‘mayhem’ so if I chose one of them then it would be a choice between the two, although this has more of a rebellious tone to it, of which I like as I feel like it could reflect the audience. SCREAM This is quite a common idea for a masthead, and I do not think it is very inventive or will stand out from others, I do like it, but I do not think it is that original and interesting enough.

Z I thought of this name (letter) because the one letter idea (like the magazine Q) is well remembered. I chose the letter Z because I think it is quite edgy. Despite this I don’t think a one letter masthead is as appropriate/fitting with my genre magazine. RAGE I Like this name as it is quite powerful and has a slight attitude to it, which fits the theme of my magazine and I feel like it would reflect the type of audience that would buy my magazine. I also like how it is short but creates a brand.

Moreover, as I am using Kerrang magazine as my inspiration for my magazine I chose this design as I fell like it best resembles the Kerrang design as it is slightly broken up as if it has crashed into something and then shattered. Furthermore, I think the style and the name are very appropriate for the magazine I am creating, also I think the design is quite interesting.
