 After looking through may past student’s music videos I realised
Alfie’s was one of my favourites. This was mainly because the
video was so well done and it was clear each shot had been
thought through and he knew exactly hat he was doing and how
his video was going to look. It was a very impressive video and I
really enjoyed watching it and how it was quite creepy and had a
story behind it, whilst also being slightly more unconventional and
twisted.
 As a whole the
video was
executed very well,
it looked
professional, neat
and was of high
quality.
 Firstly, the girl in the video, it very good as
she fits the creepy tone of the video as her
hair seems unkept and her outfit very
oversized and dark. Furthermore, there is
very good use of lighting and colour within
the video, the red lighting used creates a
sinister and twisted atmosphere, whilst the
police lights heighten the mystery involved
in the video. The general mise en scene is
very fitting to the genre of the music, the
late shots of the woods and the clothing's
and props of police tape and the tv and
images of the man missing collectively
make a creepy and unconventional video.
Additionally, the reflection of the girl
looking in the mirror are very interesting
and the writing on the mirror is further
adding to the mystery and eerie feel that
the video has.
 In terms of the actual shots used, I think he has kept them
quite simple and not moved the camera much as it remains
stationary for most. However, the shots used are very well
framed and capture the mod of the video, they are also
comfortably fit in time with the beat and rhythm of the
music. This is essential for a music video as it allows
everything to flow and it is more interesting to watch.
 He has used many intriguing shots like the mirror reflection,
the girl in the bath, the close up of her eyes looking through
the letter box. As well as filler shots with focus pulls on the
moss covered log and wide shots of the pictures of the
missing boy to further add to the video’s theme.
 In my opinion the really strong point of the video is the editing, it has
clearly taken him a long time to do this as there is so many different
things that he has used. This is also why this video stood out to me
as it really used editing to create the video and set the creepy
atmosphere.
 There is good use of effects when focused on the tv and the girls
eyes are merged in the background. The used of reverse to make
the shots when the girl stands/sits before the tv or when she opens
the paper, almost uncomfortable, however in this case this is a
good thing as the whole video is meant to be like this, it is very
effective for the video.
 Additionally, his use of many different close ups and long shots, high
angle/ tracking, over the shoulder and all the other shots he used
were compiled together very well with the editing, the are very
quite and interchanging generally help the video to adhere to the
eerie mysterious tone it is trying to accomplish.
 Despite the fact I do not necessarily plan on making a video with
this kind of creepy tone, I appreciate and acknowledge the effort,
construction and time that went into making this video. I hope I can
take elements of editing from his video into mine as Alfie was very
good at successfully editing his video to fit the tone and I have
learnt that it is an important element to include in my video.
 Furthermore, the props used really make the video and I will put a
lot of time into finding the right props to fit my video and shoot in
the right locations that compliment the style of the music/video I
am going to create.
