Marrying Absurd
Joan Didion's essay "Marrying Absurd" is a comical review of Las Vegas and its wedding business.
It gives the reader a more in depth look at the things they always expected were happening in
Nevada but were never concerned enough about to do the research. While I already knew most of
the information in the essay, Didion presented it in such an entertaining, sarcastic manner that I was
never bored. Without coming right out and saying just what she thought of the industry she told us
exactly how she felt about the Las Vegas "spur of the moment" way of life by choosing her words
very carefully. "All of these services, like most others in Las Vegas...are offered twenty–four hours a
day, seven days a week, presumably on the premise that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Didion ends her essay in the most effective way possible, with one last story to tie it all together.
The picture of the wedding party sipping pink champagne (minus the bride who is too young to do
so) is classic and illustrates her points without her having to reiterate them. By mentioning that the
bride was several months pregnant she shows that the Las Vegas wedding is probably not the real
desire but the necessity, demonstrating that drunken impulse is

Ugly Versaille Research Paper
In a world of beauty being taken to the extreme, anyone who is seen as normal, is therefore
considered an ugly. As a human being, sometimes we feel the need to change our appearance of who
we are to blend into communities where we feel welcomed and accepted. We get caught in the
middle of feeling displaced and unwanted while other people are changing and adapting to the
environment; so therefore we feel the need to change and be liked as well. Tally is a teenager girl
who has very low self–esteem and has always known she was an ugly; she does not hold any value
towards herself mentally nor physically. There is a large amount of power in today's society, where
people above us will take control of who we are and what we stand for, therefore ... Show more

We are all created in our unique sizes, shapes and proportions to difffertiates us from others. This
world was not intended for everyone to look and feel exactly the same with no flaws; realistically
speaking. The system of trying to design individuals to be perfectly proportioned with no flaw is just
a cover up for other looking from the outside to think that is the way they need to live. We all have
flaws and issues whether were gorgeously beautiful or unattractive; therefore, we should not have to
be changed and controlled by our society to be likable and treated the same. We need more feminist
in the world. Tally is basically in a situation where she is experiencing peer pressure by those around
her who are feeding hear this energy of becoming pretty. If she was not to go along with the
procedure; she will be obviously the black sheep in the white crowd. "Should she tell this new ugly

shape, some of them stretched and padded"? (Wester Feld 97) drastically speaking, who would want
to experience this feeling in their mind of not only mentally but having avery fat and abruptly

Comparing the Urban Plans and Philosophies of Le Corbusier...
History of City Planning
Prompt 1: Center and Region I: Compare the urban plans and philosophies of Le Corbusier and
Frank Lloyd Wright. What are the spatial, social and economic factors of each plan?
"Wright and Le Corbusier seem predestined for comparison. Their ideal cities confront each other as
two opposing variations on the same utopian theme" (Fishman, 163). Charles–Édouard Jeanneret–
Gris, more commonly known as Le Corbusier (October 6, 1887 – August 27, 1965), was a Swiss–
French architect, designer, painter, urban planner, and writer. Throughout his life, he was a pioneer
of modern architecture and city planning (Frampton, 12). One of Le Corbusier's contemporaries was
also hugely influential but with a competing plan Frank ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his 1929 book, The City of To–morrow and its Planning, he even refers to changing the city as
surgery (Le Corbusier 265).
His first comprehensive city plan was La Ville Contemporaine (the Contemporary City) a project to
house three million inhabitants designed in 1922. This was Le Corbusier's first attempt to reconcile
man, nature and machine (Fishman, 189). The city starts at the center with a transportation hub for
busses, trains, cars and planes. Surrounding this hub there will be an organized cluster of 24 60–
story skyscrapers. These glass and steel skyscrapers are cross–shaped. Each individual skyscraper is
to be set within a large rectangular green space. The skyscrapers house the "brain" of the city. The
city is beautifully geometric and symmetrical. Placing the skyscrapers in the city center reinforces
the emphasis on capital as a means of creating a successful city. Because of the shape and mass of
each skyscraper, they have more usable space than an entire neighborhood but also relieves density
and congestion because of the organization (Frampton, 46).
Outside these skyscraper spaces will be a redent set–back apartment blocks. These blocks are the
"cells" of the system. The social structure of the city can be seen in the distinctions in the housing.
The housing closest to the city center is larger and lusher. And the housing further from the city is
smaller and designed for poorer people (Frampton 50). Therefore, upward mobility in the social
system

Compare And Contrast How The Grinch Stole Christmas
Comparing How the Grinch stole Christmas The Grinch Who stole Christmas has been a hit movie

the movie have some differences the fact that the grinch is known to hate Christmas, he steals the
presents from everyone and the setting is the same in both the book and the movie make them
somewhat similar. The first similarity between the book and the movie is that the Grinch has been
known to hate Christmas. The book states, " The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas
season!" This is similar to the movie because in the movie the Grinch hates Christmas. When he was

Marguerite had survived many difficulties in the twenty–six years she had been in wilderness of
Canada. She had survived the Iroquois attacks, a fire that destroyed her village, and plagues on the
ships that she took back and forth to France, but nothing could stop her from achieving her dreams.
The only thing that threatened her hopes and dreams more than anything else was what her own
bishop told her in 1679. He had told her that she had to join her Congregation of Notre Dame with
its teaching sisters to a religious order of Ursulines that stayed in one place and were close together.
She had been told to do this before. Marguerite had overcome

Essay On Omega Watches
Omega Watches have a century long history and reputation of being the best luxury watch maker in
the world, appearing everywhere from the wrist of Neil Armstrong during the moon landing to the
official timekeepers of the Olympic Games to appearances in James Bond films. The most
expensive Omega watch currently available from Ethos is the Omega De Ville, with the most
expensive in the collection selling at rs 76, 04, 300 for a men's watch, although ladies watches are
available as well. Why do Omega Watches price so high? Why does the Omega brand carry so much
respect as a mark of quality? Here are some facts which explain why:
1. First co–axil escapement watch
In 1997, the De Ville range became the first commercially available watches in the world to use co–
axil escapement, a revolutionary piece of technology invented by English watchmaker George
Daniels which has become an essential component of all of Omega's best watches and has become
almost synonymous with the brand. This single piece of technology significantly decreases the

East St. Louis, Englewood, The Ville Essay
City street lights mark the edges and corners of blocked off territory. Land labeled "ghetto" and
"dangerous" translates to land that was ignored for the profit of the few. This land exists a short
drive away from us, they are backyards to the neighborhoods we chose not to stray from. They are
West Garfield Park, East St. Louis, Englewood, The Ville, and every impoverished community that
suffered in isolation while those around watched. Our generation can be quick to judge the actions
of oppressors or the lack of necessary change in our history, however a lot of these remarks can be
made about today's segregated neighborhoods. In cities such as St. Louis, where segregation is deep
rooted and has allowed further issues to stem from such divisions, the voice of the community is
often silenced by quick, misguided assumptions on such areas. These are not "bad neighborhoods"
they are not populated by "bad people", but are rather neglected portions of a city that has found it
easier to accept these stereotypes than look beyond the superficial. We have the tools and knowledge
to solidify that there is more to these neighborhoods than gangs or torn down houses, the question is
now what do we do with them? We can't begin to tackle the problem of education and poverty in
neighborhoods such as The Ville and East St. Louis, without first learning about their history and
connecting the dots between these issues. To paint a better picture of what segregation looked like

crops and have animals for pets. such as coyotes, horses, and a couple bobcats. The horses are a big
help with plowing fields, and with the transportation. As for the coyotes and bobcats pets. Well and
for being good guard dogs. The crops we grow are mainly vegetables such as corn, potatoes,
cucumbers, and onions. We also grow a few fruits too which are watermelon, cantaloupe, and a pear

Claude McKay real name is Festus Claudius McKay was an important person in the Harlem

was interested in English poetry dealing with literary. McKay's brother, Uriah Theophilus and an

and a freshness which provides a pleasing contrast with the conventionality which, at this time,
prevails among the black poets of the United States." For Songs of Jamaica McKay received an
award and paid from the Jamaican Institute of Arts and Sciences. He used the money to finance a
trip to America, and in 1912 he arrived in South Carolina. He then traveled to Alabama and enrolled
at the Tuskegee Institute, where he studied for two months before transferring to Kansas State
College. In 1914 he left school entirely for New York City and worked various menial jobs. As in
Kingston, McKay encountered racism in New York City, and that racism forced him to continue
writing poetry. In 1917, under the pseudonym Eli Edwards, McKay published two poems in a
journal called the Seven Arts. His poetry was discovered by critic Frank Hattis, who then included
some of McKay's other poems in Pearson's Magazine. McKay's most famous poems from this

Did Le Corbusier Herd Cats : Totalitarian Design?
Did Le Corbusier herd cats: Totalitarian design in Post War Architecture
Choose an architect or practice whose work is covered by or relevant to this course and discuss
critically one or more of their design projects or drawings or urban proposals as precedent case–
studies. Selectively situate this work in relation to their body of work, and against the practices and
concerns of the period. Focus on the architectural qualities of a specific key aspect of the design of
the projects. Selectively consider how they might relate to the historical situation, cultural values,
theoretical concerns and design practices of the time. This may involve a selective analysis of
compositional design practices, material fabrication production and the experiential reception of
built outcomes of the projects.
This paper is an exploration in to the works of Charles–Édouard Jeanneret–Gris, more commonly
known as Le Corbusier. Heavily criticized for "ignoring the social aspect of urban architectural
principles and separating urban functions in different neighbourhoods" (Gonclaves, 2010, p. 30), did
Le Corbusier intentionally pursue an anti–social design to impose order on society? Through

Analysis Of Eden Falls

EXT. EDEN FALLS – ESTABLISHING – DAY
On a grey day, black clouds begin to RAIN. A thunderclap snaps as lightning shatters the morose
sky.
CAMERA REVEALS Eden Falls, an unassuming, forgetful town in the Central California.
AIREAL SHOT OF EDEN FALLS
The homes and building of a town, the only high school, churches, a funeral home, tiny downtown,
a minuscule police station, fire station, library, downtown, the pet food factory and finally an
abandoned baseball diamond.
ON A HOUSE THAT RESEMBLES A CASTLE
On the edge of town, in a withdrawn area, high on a hill sits what appears to be a Victorian house
that reveals a castle. Built in the 1920s, the house has two turrets, unsightly undersize windows,
three spiked roofs, and a splayed base on each side. An inharmonious spiked iron gate engulfs the
six–bedroom dwelling.
A 'NO TRESPASSING' sign suspends on the front entrance. The warm California summers, howling
winters and rain storms have taken a toll on the structure near the century mark. The paint peeling,
many of the roof's shackles are gone astray, the gutter's useless, debris dripping from the corners of
the rooftop.
The once manicured lawn now a home for two feet high weeds, lifeless trees and overgrown brush.
The house should've been condemned and demolish with a bulldozer a decade ago.
Now the RAIN is hammering, an evaporation Elm tree in the front yard continues combating the

Analysis Of How The Grinch Stole Christmas
Within in many literary works, the writers provide a moral lesson for their readers. The term moral
refers to an action that demonstrates the difference between right and wrong. Theodore Geisel,
better known as Dr. Suess usually provides some type of moral lesson within all of his literary
works. Within the poem, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," Geisel provides a moral lesson by
showing the realization of what is really important during the holiday season. The Grinch goes
through a transformation which includes: a lack of morals, a realization of meanings, and the
development of his morals. The Grinch demonstrated a lack of moral actions within the poem. The
author showed a lack of moral judgment by stealing their Christmas and happiness to fulfil his own
awful goals. During the poem, the Grinch is an example of having a lack of morals by his
determination to make others miserable. He proved this determination by stealing the ... Show more

they realized that Christmas was stolen. Although the Grinch had expected and looked forward to
the cries of Whos, to his shock they responded with happiness. The Whos did not respond with the
wanted cries, but instead with a cheerful Christmas carol. Their cheerful response showed that
Christmas was not about the material goods but about what Christmas is really all about: And he

comes to the true reason for the season:

Analysis Of Hyper-Masculinity In Brownsville
The Ville, a tell–all book reporting on society, culture, and the daily events that occur, describes the
youth and youth culture in Brownsville, Brooklyn in the 1990's. One of the seemingly prominent
aspects of the youth culture mentioned several times throughout this Brownsville biography is
hyper–masculinity. The hyper–masculine mindset of Brownsville perpetuates the androcentric
tendencies within the society. Hyper–masculinity, defined as a psychological term for the
exaggeration of male stereotypical behavior, played a crucial part in the maintenance and function of
the Brownsville community. The stereotypical male behavior of the time period in the book
consisted of being a part of a male group, whether that be a drug–selling gang or a shoplifting gang
like the Lo–Lifes, having a certain diction and attitude, having a certain strength, physically and
emotionally, and having little consideration for the law; without these characteristics men were seen
as weak and vulnerable. All of these stereotypical behaviors were supposed to be maintained by the
community's men because it gave them a distinct aura that made Brownsville residents, police and
visitors aware of who was in charge. Because everyone was surrounded by that culture, violence,
and dialect, it became a part of who they were. Since most men have the predisposed inclination of
being providers and having to be the breadwinners, they took charge and eventually Brownsville
became an androcentric society.

A Summary Of La Ville Lumiere
La Ville Lumiere
The dark specter of the cool night spread across the sky, while the alluring orange color of the sunset
disappeared as nonchalantly as it came. A mixed medley of harmonious sounds streamed through
the night from the violins. Music echoed from every street corner, awakening life, springing off the
Eiffel Tower to Notre Dame and floating through the Arc de Triomphe. Soon, the people, scattered
like trees in a desolate country, grew into a huge crowd like a lush green woodland. Noises of people
shrilling, teenagers laughing and adults murmuring transpired from the crowd. The lads held their
demoiselles' hands lost in their world of immortal love. Eventually, everyone slipped into their
dancing shoes. The aromas rose from the hot sizzling gourmet cuisine and cigarette smoke to
quickly permeate the air. The streets shone with dazzling lights as bright as daytime, as the
astounding Eiffel Tower took form in its enticing and glowing festive lights of amber, standing in its
own elegance, like a gem on Champ de Mars. 'La Ville Lumiere...' here it is; Paris, the splendid
metropolis, the home of the lovers and the city that speaks the language of love.

Conclusion Of A Utopia
Every modern architects is trying to achieve a dream they have never been perfectly successful
society – a Utopia. The word "utopia" first described as fictional island society in Sir Thomas
More's book Utopia in 1516 as perfect community with a visionary system of political and society –
cities that function to improve man's daily lives and free from problems. This imagination city can
never exist. Yet, the concept of utopia has influenced to the arts, especially architects. In the early
20th century, the world was facing the destruction by World War 1. A modernist movement was
beginning by Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe, to name the best known among
them. By bringing in new material such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important is everything has to be functional. Thus, modernists planned the urban
according to their function and purpose. Residential and commercial were always separated by
zoning. Mostly these two zone is separated by district or interlinking road. Most of them are far with
each other. Each zone has to be practical and functional on their own purpose. This is also what a
Utopia aim to be. Function is more important than everything.
Chapter 4.0 Conclusion Utopia was mean to be "perfect" but no utopia can ever give satisfaction to
everyone. In fact, people are demanding more and the pricier price will be pay for the satisfaction.
This is what will be happen whenever things are going same to a large number of people and
eventually humanity will be drowned. The evolution of machine might change the quality lifestyle
of human but it is reversing humanity. There are a lot of agree and disagreement about utopia. Some
agree that utopia represented the ideological of the whole society. Eventually some disagree this
statement and said utopia is impossible to success and listing out the reason of failure of utopia. In
my opinion, there is no wrong or right in utopia. Human have to learn from the wrong and making it
right. Adapt the good from utopia and learn the wrong, yet idea of Utopia has influenced outskirt

group of four comedy legends that we can always count on for laughter and fun. In this group, we
have Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley, Bernie Mac and Cedric the Entertainer who are all gifted
comedians who can sell out shows at any venue.
Like any King of Comedy, Cedric the Entertainer has sold out the historic Ryman Auditorium in
Nashville, Tennessee. In Live from the Ville we begin the show with voiceovers of other entertainers

He discusses awkward situations in his life and how different his generation is from the generation
of today. With Cedric, you know you will laugh and receive entertainment that's worth your time
because Cedric knows what he's doing. The stage is his comfort zone.
In Live from the Ville, his performance goes from joke to joke as if he has many stories to tell like
catching up with an old friend. The jokes don't necessarily connect to each other almost duplicating
how conversations today can go from A to Z when talking about recent events in our lives.
Cedric's performance ends with a light note with black jokes and how he would react in different
situations such as zoo animals leaving their cages and running loose on the streets, his opinions on
why a woman was possibly kicked by a giraffe, and how as a black person at a company picnic, he
finds himself trying to avoid eating chicken and watermelon to avoid meeting stereotypes but he
can't help himself to sneak chicken and watermelon

Analysis Of Cinderella Man
The film Cinderella Man was about a boxer name James Braddock and his struggles through the
great depression. Through boxing Braddock gave hope to the people who faced the great depression
just as he did. He gave them a type of hope that nurtured them to thinking that they would persevere
through the hardship just as he did with his boxing career. From an audience perspective this film
earned a 5 out of 5 stars rating because director Ron Howard served his purpose well by not only
developing a boxing film that did not just only acknowledge the perseverance about the sport side of
things. The director Howard showed adversity and many aspects in the film such as Braddock's
struggles with his wife, kids, career, and friends. In essence Howard was able to incorporate how the
great depression played a magnificent role in everything that occurred.
The film represents the great depression and Braddock's life during the time of the early 1900's.
Braddock was struggling to keep food on the table and electricity for his family to survive the cold
days and nights in New York. Subsequently, James Braddock resulted in the government assistance
to help him in a time of need. Eventually with the win of some fights Braddock returns to repay the
money he received from the government. "This is liberalism at its worst: we will give scraps to the
starving as long as they have the moral fortitude to pay it back." (Zirin, 2005) this scene in the film
sparked up some controversy leaving a

The Grinch Who Stole Christmas
Sigmund Freud believed that personality consists of three parts: the id, which is motivated by desire
and looks for immediate satisfaction; the ego, which deals with rational decisions; and the superego,
which makes moral judgments (Acacio). This is psychoanalysis, which can be used to analyze The
Grinch Who Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss. According to Freud, the mind consists of only the id
when we grow up. As we age, we transform part of the id into the ego and superego (Acacio). In the
case of the Grinch, he grew up in a situation where, due to his isolation, he had no one to guide,
reprimand, or praise him. He had no influences in his life. In the poem, there is a line that states, "It
could be his head wasn't screwed on just right." (Seuss

Le Corbusier's Self Endorsed Edict, A State Of Mind For...
Moving towards the end of the passage, Le Corbusier's final assertion in his self endorsed edict "A
state of mind for conceiving mass–production housing." Again one could argue Le Corbusier was
inferring more so to a level of thought where there is no pre conceived notion of what a home or
tower is, or even can be, only the task at hand and a mind to solve it. For instance, the 'Dom–Ino'
system (Fig 4.1) he established in 1910 while touring the AEG factory you when applied rigorously
and with strict adherence to the mindset of mass production, will inevitably reach standardization no
matter the variation. This last tenet, In particular and much like modernism itself, can be interpreted
in a multitude of ways yet with adherence to something so prescribed as the earlier excerpt is it
reinforces his order for us to accept a design seemingly devoid of feeling or form, is to look at it as
architecture, but as a singular object part of a much larger whole that only is integrated on a much
larger scale, in doing so would solve the problem at hand and to not lose sight of that.
Le Corbusier wanted architecture to be the same the world over because he believed that there was a
"correct" way to build and only he knew what the solution was. The program of the International
Congress for Modern Architecture, of which Le Corbusier was the significant proponent, states:
"Reforms are extended simultaneously to all cities, to all rural areas, across the seas." No
exceptions. "Oslo, Moscow,

The Most Dangerous Game Compare And Contrast
We all discover stories and explore it, but while comparing and contrasting two stories, the film,
High Noon and short story, "The Most Dangerous Game" which obviously present many
differences, but there are also some similarities located throughout both of them. No story is ever a
story without main characters, and Will Kane from the film along with Sanger Rainsford from the
short story have similar personalities as well as differences affecting their own story. Nothing is ever
complete without a setting, and Hadley Ville, a western town from the film, along with Ship–Trap

Living in Tooth Ville
Tooth Ville is a very enjoyable place; I would consider living in Tooth Ville if I was you. Tooth Ville
is an island that is a shape of a tooth, hence the name "Tooth Ville". Tooth Ville has two site factors;
Tooth Ville has 3 natural harbours where food is shipped in from other countries or cities, also many
people come to Tooth Ville by water. Also since there is a lot of food being sent in from the other
countries and cities Tooth Ville has some natural resources, also Tooth Ville is surrounded by water
we have a lot of fresh water. All we have to do is filter it and we have our fresh water. As for Tooth
Ville's situation factor, Tooth Ville has markets that are usually full since they are really close to
residential areas. And we have a lot of roads and highways that connect everything, Tooth Ville even
has 2 bridges that connect to the mini islands around Tooth Ville.
You could say that Tooth Ville is kind of like a suburban area; Tooth Ville has a lot of natural
resources so we are not like rural areas. We also don't have that much apartment building like they
do in urban areas, Tooth Ville isn't really busy that much maybe only twice in a week. Tooth Ville
has different kinds of houses; we have detached houses near the north west of Tooth Ville, there are
apartment buildings near the east of Tooth Ville, and some townhouses near the north of Tooth Ville
surrounding a park. Tooth Ville has one main highway that connects to the roads which connects to

What Is Fourier Transform
Accordingly, the magnitude of energy density produces the spectrum of function, which is
commonly indicated as color plots. To investigate the signal around time t of interest, window
function has chosen that is peaked around t. Therefore, the modified signal S_t (τ) is short and its
Fourier transform is called short–time Fourier transform (Satish 1998). The principle of STFT is to
divide the initial waveform signal into small segments with short–time window, apply Fourier
transform to each segment. However, due to the signal segmentation, this method has limitation in
time–frequency resolution. It can only be applied to analyze the segmented stationary signal or the
approximate stationary signal, but for the non–stationary signal, when ... Show more content on

A continuous wavelet transform is expressed as: Where x(t)is the waveform signal, a is the scale
parameter, b is the time parameter and ψ(t)is the mother wavelet, which is a zero mean oscillatory
function centred around zero with a finite energy,∫_(–∞)^(+∞)▒〖ψ(t)dt=0〗, and "*" denotes
complex conjugate. By dilating via the scale parameter a and translations via the time parameter b,
wavelet transform of a waveform signal decomposes the signal to a number of oscillatory functions
with different frequencies and time (Jardine 2006). Similar as Fourier transform decomposes a
signal into a series of complex sinusoids, the wavelet transform decomposes a signal into a family of
wavelets. The difference is that sinusoids are smooth, symmetric, and regular but wavelets can be
ether symmetric or asymmetric, sharp or smooth, regular or irregular. The dilated and translated
versions of a prototype function are contained in the family of wavelets. The prototype function is
defined as a mother wavelet. The scale parameter a and time parameter b of wavelets formulate how
the mother wavelet dilates and translates along the time or space axis. Different types of wavelets
can be chosen for different forms of signals to best match the features of the signal. The flexibility
of selecting wavelets and the characteristic of wavelets make wavelet transform a beneficial tool for
obtaining reliable results and

The Establishment Of Wrongness : Fantasy Literature Essay
The Establishment of Wrongness Fantasy literature typically follows the same formulaic flow of
story through wrongness, thinning, recognition, and healing or return. Despite this typical
progression of story, the way novels approach these themes and thread them together differs
between each author. Wrongness, the recognition that the world is or is about to change, is the start
of the chain reaction that pushes the story further. Three novels that provide variations on this theme
are, The Year of Our War by Steph Swainston, Throne of the Crescent Moon by Saladin Ahmed, and
The Scar by China Mieville. The element of wrongness is undertaken in different ways in each of
these novels, and the way in which the characters in the novel interpret and react to this element
differ as well. The differences and similarities between the authors introduction of wrongness allows
the genre of fantasy to not be constrained. As its traditional elements are advanced from various
angles providing new and varied stories. The Year of Our War differs from the other two novels, in
respect that the novel takes place entirely in the element of thinning. The novel begins in a dystopian
future where a plague of insects is indefatigable and constantly overrunning towns and villages. The
only defense against the horde is a band of immortals governed by the Emperor. Unlike the other
two novels wrongness is never seen in the novel, but is inherently implied. Much like the inference
that Jant is the only

How The Grinch Stole Christmas
Marxism is a view on society which critiques society, named after Karl Marx himself. To put it
simply, Marxism basically exists on the idea which perpetrates the idea that there are societal
classes, and major inequalities between the lower class and the upper class. How the Grinch Stole
Christmas by Dr. Seuss is a clear example of how the Marxist theory can be applied to written
works. In How the Grinch Stole Christmas, despite being a story that one would read to a child
during bedtime, one can't deny the obvious class struggles within the story. The Grinch, being
isolated from the town of Who Ville, despises the Who's, and their joy whilst celebrating Christmas.
Clearly an example of the class inequalities as the Grinch, who rejects Christmas,

The Pros And Cons Of Shingled Roofing
Anyone who has owned an asphalt shingled roof has seen the black streaks that form in the areas on
the roof that get less sunlight. Commonly mistaken for mold, these streaks are actually algae that
feed off of the limestone filler used in the shingles. This algae is not only an eyesore, left unchecked
it can cause the granules on your shingles to fall off. It is a good idea to get rid of this menace as
soon as you notice it. Most of the New Orleans roofing experts agree that a homeowner should use a
non corrosive roof cleaner. This will ensure that you do not cause any unnecessary harm to the roof.
There are many to choose from at most hardware stores. Make sure that whatever day you plan to
clean your roof, it is cool and calm out. If it

demanded for him to leave, it was around fifteen after eight, and by the way he judged it, he had

sign above his head. He didn't even mind to look at the name of the place before he walked in.

The mystery man offered up a chuckle. "It's quite alright, but you really do need to calm yourself.

St Lawrence Boulevard Research Paper
Montreal's Main Street
The St. Lawrence boulevard is one of the most known and talked about road in Canada. In the
collective imagination, it has long been the street that separates Montreal in half. Which is quite
understandable as the St. Lawrence boulevard is the backbone of the great French–speaking city. A
city born from its river, founded downstream of the mighty Lachine rapids, which form a natural
barrier for ocean–going ships, Montreal turns its back on its majestic stream. But it is as if to throw
oneself into an otherwise tumultuous torrent which, from the wharves of the St. Lawrence to those
of the Rivière des Prairies, rolls its course from one side to the other of the island of Montreal. St.

The St. Lawrence boulevard is full of history. Before becoming the large and impressing street we
now know it as, St. Lawrence boulevard was the only path upon which travelers could get in and out
of Montreal. This unique street served as a pathway to link the North and the South shore of the
island. Therefore, the St. Lawrence boulevard was a vital contributor to the development of
Montreal. Any cargo or people coming from Europe would enter the port and from there, take the St.
Lawrence road to reach their new settlement. In 1717, the French colony, fearing a land attack, built
defensive walls, following the architectural drawings of Chaussegros de Léry, around what we now
call the Vieux–Montréal (old city). The wall only had one door situated on the northern side of it
named Grande Porte Saint–Laurent and it gave way to the, then named, St. Lawrence road. This
little road was surrounded by farmland and greenery and it served as a mean of transport between
Montreal and the St. Lawrence village (Ville De Montréal, 1995). Merchants would often use the St.
Lawrence boulevard to enter the city and sell

Covering a broad area of north and central St. Louis is the Grande Prairie Area, which is bounded by
St. Louis and Grand Avenue, Delmar and Kingshighway Boulevards.
From a beginning as a sparsely settled countryside in the 1860's, the Grande Prairie area experienced
a gradual urbanization. This build–up followed a westward trend across Grand Avenue; among
many people moving into the area were significant numbers of German and Irish immigrants as well
as a few blacks. Prior to 1900, the population of the area was generally white. The nucleus of its
present extensive black population began in the Elleardsville section.

Age–wise, some of these date back to the 1880's and 1890's. A number of former single family
dwellings have been converted into rooming houses. Frame houses are found in poorer sections of
the area where more demolition has occurred. The Ville suffers from incredibly low real estate value
in comparison to St. Louis' other seventy–eight neighborhoods.
The neighborhood ranks second lowest in the value of single family residences and ninth in the
value of its two– and four–family structures, which together represent 95 percent of the
neighborhood's housing options.
Principal commercial streets are Delmar, Kingshighway, Grand and Martin Luther King Drive.
Minor commercial strips are on Taylor, Sarah, Vandeventer and St. Louis Avenue. The most active
area for stores is centered around the former Sears store on Kingshighway. Elsewhere, generally,
commercial uses are in poor physical condition; with many vacant or vandalized. Considerable
demolition has occurred and on major streets some older stores have been replaced by drive–ins or
service stations. Competition from outlying shopping centers and a lack of adequate parking have
taken their toll on neighborhood stores and shops. The major grocery facilities are Schnucks Market,
Aldi and Food for Less which are located on major streets and accessible by public transit or motor
vehicle.

Marrying Absurd

  • 1. Marrying Absurd Joan Didion's essay "Marrying Absurd" is a comical review of Las Vegas and its wedding business. It gives the reader a more in depth look at the things they always expected were happening in Nevada but were never concerned enough about to do the research. While I already knew most of the information in the essay, Didion presented it in such an entertaining, sarcastic manner that I was never bored. Without coming right out and saying just what she thought of the industry she told us exactly how she felt about the Las Vegas "spur of the moment" way of life by choosing her words very carefully. "All of these services, like most others in Las Vegas...are offered twenty–four hours a day, seven days a week, presumably on the premise that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Didion ends her essay in the most effective way possible, with one last story to tie it all together. The picture of the wedding party sipping pink champagne (minus the bride who is too young to do so) is classic and illustrates her points without her having to reiterate them. By mentioning that the bride was several months pregnant she shows that the Las Vegas wedding is probably not the real desire but the necessity, demonstrating that drunken impulse is ... • 3. Ugly Versaille Research Paper In a world of beauty being taken to the extreme, anyone who is seen as normal, is therefore considered an ugly. As a human being, sometimes we feel the need to change our appearance of who we are to blend into communities where we feel welcomed and accepted. We get caught in the middle of feeling displaced and unwanted while other people are changing and adapting to the environment; so therefore we feel the need to change and be liked as well. Tally is a teenager girl who has very low self–esteem and has always known she was an ugly; she does not hold any value towards herself mentally nor physically. There is a large amount of power in today's society, where people above us will take control of who we are and what we stand for, therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We are all created in our unique sizes, shapes and proportions to difffertiates us from others. This world was not intended for everyone to look and feel exactly the same with no flaws; realistically speaking. The system of trying to design individuals to be perfectly proportioned with no flaw is just a cover up for other looking from the outside to think that is the way they need to live. We all have flaws and issues whether were gorgeously beautiful or unattractive; therefore, we should not have to be changed and controlled by our society to be likable and treated the same. We need more feminist in the world. Tally is basically in a situation where she is experiencing peer pressure by those around her who are feeding hear this energy of becoming pretty. If she was not to go along with the procedure; she will be obviously the black sheep in the white crowd. "Should she tell this new ugly sometime this afternoon, her body was going to be opened, the bones grounded down to the right shape, some of them stretched and padded"? (Wester Feld 97) drastically speaking, who would want to experience this feeling in their mind of not only mentally but having avery fat and abruptly procedure done on their entire body with no capability of outweighing the situation. • 7. Comparing the Urban Plans and Philosophies of Le Corbusier... History of City Planning Prompt 1: Center and Region I: Compare the urban plans and philosophies of Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright. What are the spatial, social and economic factors of each plan? "Wright and Le Corbusier seem predestined for comparison. Their ideal cities confront each other as two opposing variations on the same utopian theme" (Fishman, 163). Charles–Édouard Jeanneret– Gris, more commonly known as Le Corbusier (October 6, 1887 – August 27, 1965), was a Swiss– French architect, designer, painter, urban planner, and writer. Throughout his life, he was a pioneer of modern architecture and city planning (Frampton, 12). One of Le Corbusier's contemporaries was also hugely influential but with a competing plan Frank ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his 1929 book, The City of To–morrow and its Planning, he even refers to changing the city as surgery (Le Corbusier 265). His first comprehensive city plan was La Ville Contemporaine (the Contemporary City) a project to house three million inhabitants designed in 1922. This was Le Corbusier's first attempt to reconcile man, nature and machine (Fishman, 189). The city starts at the center with a transportation hub for busses, trains, cars and planes. Surrounding this hub there will be an organized cluster of 24 60– story skyscrapers. These glass and steel skyscrapers are cross–shaped. Each individual skyscraper is to be set within a large rectangular green space. The skyscrapers house the "brain" of the city. The city is beautifully geometric and symmetrical. Placing the skyscrapers in the city center reinforces the emphasis on capital as a means of creating a successful city. Because of the shape and mass of each skyscraper, they have more usable space than an entire neighborhood but also relieves density and congestion because of the organization (Frampton, 46). Outside these skyscraper spaces will be a redent set–back apartment blocks. These blocks are the "cells" of the system. The social structure of the city can be seen in the distinctions in the housing. The housing closest to the city center is larger and lusher. And the housing further from the city is smaller and designed for poorer people (Frampton 50). Therefore, upward mobility in the social system ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Marguerite had survived many difficulties in the twenty–six years she had been in wilderness of Canada. She had survived the Iroquois attacks, a fire that destroyed her village, and plagues on the ships that she took back and forth to France, but nothing could stop her from achieving her dreams. The only thing that threatened her hopes and dreams more than anything else was what her own bishop told her in 1679. He had told her that she had to join her Congregation of Notre Dame with its teaching sisters to a religious order of Ursulines that stayed in one place and were close together. Essay On Omega Watches Omega Watches have a century long history and reputation of being the best luxury watch maker in the world, appearing everywhere from the wrist of Neil Armstrong during the moon landing to the official timekeepers of the Olympic Games to appearances in James Bond films. The most expensive Omega watch currently available from Ethos is the Omega De Ville, with the most expensive in the collection selling at rs 76, 04, 300 for a men's watch, although ladies watches are available as well. Why do Omega Watches price so high? Why does the Omega brand carry so much respect as a mark of quality? Here are some facts which explain why: 1. First co–axil escapement watch In 1997, the De Ville range became the first commercially available watches in the world to use co– axil escapement, a revolutionary piece of technology invented by English watchmaker George Daniels which has become an essential component of all of Omega's best watches and has become almost synonymous with the brand. • 17. East St. Louis, Englewood, The Ville Essay City street lights mark the edges and corners of blocked off territory. Land labeled "ghetto" and "dangerous" translates to land that was ignored for the profit of the few. This land exists a short drive away from us, they are backyards to the neighborhoods we chose not to stray from. They are West Garfield Park, East St. Louis, Englewood, The Ville, and every impoverished community that suffered in isolation while those around watched. Our generation can be quick to judge the actions of oppressors or the lack of necessary change in our history, however a lot of these remarks can be made about today's segregated neighborhoods. In cities such as St. Louis, where segregation is deep rooted and has allowed further issues to stem from such divisions, the voice of the community is often silenced by quick, misguided assumptions on such areas. These are not "bad neighborhoods" they are not populated by "bad people", but are rather neglected portions of a city that has found it easier to accept these stereotypes than look beyond the superficial. We have the tools and knowledge to solidify that there is more to these neighborhoods than gangs or torn down houses, the question is now what do we do with them? We can't begin to tackle the problem of education and poverty in neighborhoods such as The Ville and East St. Louis, without first learning about their history and connecting the dots between these issues. He then traveled to Alabama and enrolled at the Tuskegee Institute, where he studied for two months before transferring to Kansas State College. In 1914 he left school entirely for New York City and worked various menial jobs. As in Kingston, McKay encountered racism in New York City, and that racism forced him to continue writing poetry. In 1917, under the pseudonym Eli Edwards, McKay published two poems in a journal called the Seven Arts. His poetry was discovered by critic Frank Hattis, who then included some of McKay's other poems in Pearson's Magazine. McKay's most famous poems from this period was "To the White Fiend." This paper is an exploration in to the works of Charles–Édouard Jeanneret–Gris, more commonly known as Le Corbusier. Heavily criticized for "ignoring the social aspect of urban architectural principles and separating urban functions in different neighbourhoods" (Gonclaves, 2010, p. 30), did Le Corbusier intentionally pursue an anti–social design to impose order on society? Through examination of his life's work, ranging from built projects including Unite d'Habitation, case studies and the unbuilt urban proposals such as Ville contemporaine (1922), the Plan Voisin (1925) and the refined Ville Radieuse (1933–35) to what is arguably Le Corbusier's most influential text 'Vers une ... A thunderclap snaps as lightning shatters the morose sky. CAMERA REVEALS Eden Falls, an unassuming, forgetful town in the Central California. AIREAL SHOT OF EDEN FALLS The homes and building of a town, the only high school, churches, a funeral home, tiny downtown, a minuscule police station, fire station, library, downtown, the pet food factory and finally an abandoned baseball diamond. ON A HOUSE THAT RESEMBLES A CASTLE On the edge of town, in a withdrawn area, high on a hill sits what appears to be a Victorian house that reveals a castle. Built in the 1920s, the house has two turrets, unsightly undersize windows, three spiked roofs, and a splayed base on each side. An inharmonious spiked iron gate engulfs the six–bedroom dwelling. A 'NO TRESPASSING' sign suspends on the front entrance. The warm California summers, howling winters and rain storms have taken a toll on the structure near the century mark. The paint peeling, many of the roof's shackles are gone astray, the gutter's useless, debris dripping from the corners of the rooftop. The once manicured lawn now a home for two feet high weeds, lifeless trees and overgrown brush. The house should've been condemned and demolish with a bulldozer a decade ago. Now the RAIN is hammering, an evaporation Elm tree in the front yard continues combating the storm for the millionth time. In the driveway, a '1979' discolored scorched orange Cadillac Coupe Deville is parked. CUT TO: INT. THE CASTLE HOUSE – THE DINING ROOM – CONTINUOUS As the RAIN continues to pour against the easily broken windows, making a TRASHING sound, a frail little woman, BEATRICE LAUGHLIN, 83 years of age is seated at her if large dining table which seats sixteen alone. Beatrice sips her pea soup, enjoying the last few bites of her meal. Beatrice is the matriarch of a once proud, powerful family. THEA HALLWAY WALL The CAMERA slowly PANS to portraits of Beatrice's late husband, Charles, her four children and one grandchild, all now questionable deceased. • 34. Analysis Of How The Grinch Stole Christmas Within in many literary works, the writers provide a moral lesson for their readers. The term moral refers to an action that demonstrates the difference between right and wrong. Theodore Geisel, better known as Dr. Suess usually provides some type of moral lesson within all of his literary works. Within the poem, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," Geisel provides a moral lesson by showing the realization of what is really important during the holiday season. The Grinch goes through a transformation which includes: a lack of morals, a realization of meanings, and the development of his morals. The Grinch demonstrated a lack of moral actions within the poem. The author showed a lack of moral judgment by stealing their Christmas and happiness to fulfil his own awful goals. During the poem, the Grinch is an example of having a lack of morals by his determination to make others miserable. He proved this determination by stealing the ... Although the Grinch had expected and looked forward to the cries of Whos, to his shock they responded with happiness. The Whos did not respond with the wanted cries, but instead with a cheerful Christmas carol. Their cheerful response showed that Christmas was not about the material goods but about what Christmas is really all about: And he puzzled three hours, 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before! 'Maybe Christmas," he thought, 'doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas... perhaps... means a little bit more!' (Geisel 4). • 36. Analysis Of Hyper-Masculinity In Brownsville The Ville, a tell–all book reporting on society, culture, and the daily events that occur, describes the youth and youth culture in Brownsville, Brooklyn in the 1990's. One of the seemingly prominent aspects of the youth culture mentioned several times throughout this Brownsville biography is hyper–masculinity. The hyper–masculine mindset of Brownsville perpetuates the androcentric tendencies within the society. Hyper–masculinity, defined as a psychological term for the exaggeration of male stereotypical behavior, played a crucial part in the maintenance and function of the Brownsville community. The stereotypical male behavior of the time period in the book consisted of being a part of a male group, whether that be a drug–selling gang or a shoplifting gang like the Lo–Lifes, having a certain diction and attitude, having a certain strength, physically and emotionally, and having little consideration for the law; without these characteristics men were seen as weak and vulnerable. All of these stereotypical behaviors were supposed to be maintained by the community's men because it gave them a distinct aura that made Brownsville residents, police and visitors aware of who was in charge. Because everyone was surrounded by that culture, violence, and dialect, it became a part of who they were. Since most men have the predisposed inclination of being providers and having to be the breadwinners, they took charge and eventually Brownsville became an androcentric society. ... Through boxing Braddock gave hope to the people who faced the great depression just as he did. He gave them a type of hope that nurtured them to thinking that they would persevere through the hardship just as he did with his boxing career. From an audience perspective this film earned a 5 out of 5 stars rating because director Ron Howard served his purpose well by not only developing a boxing film that did not just only acknowledge the perseverance about the sport side of things. The director Howard showed adversity and many aspects in the film such as Braddock's struggles with his wife, kids, career, and friends. In essence Howard was able to incorporate how the great depression played a magnificent role in everything that occurred. The film represents the great depression and Braddock's life during the time of the early 1900's. Moving towards the end of the passage, Le Corbusier's final assertion in his self endorsed edict "A state of mind for conceiving mass–production housing." Again one could argue Le Corbusier was inferring more so to a level of thought where there is no pre conceived notion of what a home or tower is, or even can be, only the task at hand and a mind to solve it. For instance, the 'Dom–Ino' system (Fig 4.1) he established in 1910 while touring the AEG factory you when applied rigorously and with strict adherence to the mindset of mass production, will inevitably reach standardization no matter the variation. This last tenet, In particular and much like modernism itself, can be interpreted in a multitude of ways yet with adherence to something so prescribed as the earlier excerpt is it reinforces his order for us to accept a design seemingly devoid of feeling or form, is to look at it as architecture, but as a singular object part of a much larger whole that only is integrated on a much larger scale, in doing so would solve the problem at hand and to not lose sight of that. Le Corbusier wanted architecture to be the same the world over because he believed that there was a "correct" way to build and only he knew what the solution was. To investigate the signal around time t of interest, window function has chosen that is peaked around t. Therefore, the modified signal S_t (τ) is short and its Fourier transform is called short–time Fourier transform (Satish 1998). The principle of STFT is to divide the initial waveform signal into small segments with short–time window, apply Fourier transform to each segment. However, due to the signal segmentation, this method has limitation in time–frequency resolution. It can only be applied to analyze the segmented stationary signal or the approximate stationary signal, but for the non–stationary signal, when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A continuous wavelet transform is expressed as: Where x(t)is the waveform signal, a is the scale parameter, b is the time parameter and ψ(t)is the mother wavelet, which is a zero mean oscillatory function centred around zero with a finite energy,∫_(–∞)^(+∞)▒〖ψ(t)dt=0〗, and "*" denotes complex conjugate. By dilating via the scale parameter a and translations via the time parameter b, wavelet transform of a waveform signal decomposes the signal to a number of oscillatory functions with different frequencies and time (Jardine 2006). Similar as Fourier transform decomposes a signal into a series of complex sinusoids, the wavelet transform decomposes a signal into a family of wavelets. The difference is that sinusoids are smooth, symmetric, and regular but wavelets can be ether symmetric or asymmetric, sharp or smooth, regular or irregular. The dilated and translated versions of a prototype function are contained in the family of wavelets. The prototype function is defined as a mother wavelet. The scale parameter a and time parameter b of wavelets formulate how the mother wavelet dilates and translates along the time or space axis. Different types of wavelets can be chosen for different forms of signals to best match the features of the signal. • 62. The Establishment Of Wrongness : Fantasy Literature Essay The Establishment of Wrongness Fantasy literature typically follows the same formulaic flow of story through wrongness, thinning, recognition, and healing or return. Despite this typical progression of story, the way novels approach these themes and thread them together differs between each author. Wrongness, the recognition that the world is or is about to change, is the start of the chain reaction that pushes the story further. Three novels that provide variations on this theme are, The Year of Our War by Steph Swainston, Throne of the Crescent Moon by Saladin Ahmed, and The Scar by China Mieville. The element of wrongness is undertaken in different ways in each of these novels, and the way in which the characters in the novel interpret and react to this element differ as well. The differences and similarities between the authors introduction of wrongness allows the genre of fantasy to not be constrained. As its traditional elements are advanced from various angles providing new and varied stories. The Year of Our War differs from the other two novels, in respect that the novel takes place entirely in the element of thinning. The novel begins in a dystopian future where a plague of insects is indefatigable and constantly overrunning towns and villages. The only defense against the horde is a band of immortals governed by the Emperor. Unlike the other two novels wrongness is never seen in the novel, but is inherently implied. This little road was surrounded by farmland and greenery and it served as a mean of transport between Montreal and the St. Lawrence village (Ville De Montréal, 1995). The most active area for stores is centered around the former Sears store on Kingshighway. Elsewhere, generally, commercial uses are in poor physical condition; with many vacant or vandalized. Competition from outlying shopping centers and a lack of adequate parking have taken their toll on neighborhood stores and shops.
