Depop - "Our first steps towards Material Design" @ London Android MeetupMark Jenkins
We spoke about how the Depop UI was made consistent using principles of Material Design as well as how we developed the style sheet to make the app styleable in the shortest amount of time.
This enabled us to rebuild the app from the ground up, laying down solid foundations for future development.

Let’s face it, traditional video conferencing did not live up to the hype. The promise of working from anywhere was groundbreaking, but the reality of spotty quality, overly complicated remote controls, and huge price tags were not. There are lots of reasons why it never really took off, but instead of the past, let’s focus on the here and now. Thanks to a new breed of cloud-based video communications services, the promise of meeting face-to-face anyplace, is now a reality.

1. Market research results
The purpose of this market research is to find out about the target audience, e.g. genre.
I have sent out a questionnaire to see what people say about their favourite music magazine, this is
a form of primary research.
Are you male or female?
Male
Female
From this I can see that more females took my survey however men answered it as well so it is a
balanced result.
How old are you?
0-15
16-30
31-45
46-70
71-100
The majority of people who answered my survey were between the ages of 16-30, therefore the
music magazine will be aimed at those ages.
2. How often do you listen to music?
Never
rarely
Often
Everyday
I have gathered from this information that the majority of people listen to music everyday therefore
they would be very interested in a magazine about music.
What is your favourite genre of music?
House
Rock
Indie
Rap
R+b
Pop
Classical
Heavy metal
Country
Gospel
Dubstep
Indie seems to be the most popular genre of music, however there is a big range and everyone likes
different things, my music magazine would have to have a range of music genres in it but more indie
than anything else.
3. Where do you buy your music?
record shops
iTunes
Online e.g. amazon
Illegal download
I don't buy any music
The majority of people said that they illegally download their music, therefore in my magazine I will
not put much information about where you can buy music for example iTunes.
do you read music magazines?
yes
no
I have found that the majority of young people do not read music magazines, this means I will have
to make my music magazine more appealing to the younger audience.
4. If yes what music magazines do you read?
No I don't
NME
Q
Vibe
Billboard
Rolling stones
L
mojo
Here I can see that a lot of people don’t read music magazines, I can change this by making my music
magazine more suitable for teenagers as the majority of people I asked were ages 16-30.
How do you listen to your music?
Ipod
Radio
Phone
Youtube
Gigs
Television
Vinyl/CD
I can see that most people listen to their music via phone so in my music magazine I will put more
things in it to do with music on phones and music on youtube.
5. How often do you go to gigs?
Never
Rarely
Often
All the time
In my survey I have found that people rarely go to gigs so I will try and encourage them to go to gigs
by putting some information about them in the magazine but not a lot of information because this
could bore the reader.
How often do you buy music magazine?
Never
Rarely
Often
Every Week
I can see that not a lot of people buy music magazines, to improve this I will make my front cover
really appealing to 16-30 year olds as they are the most popular age to listen to music.
