Which age bracket best represents you? Evaluation: This pie chart shows us that we mainly received a response from 13-18 year olds. This means that this data could represent our target audience, giving us a much greater range of valid data (with the exception of one participants (>36 year old)).
Gender Evaluation: As you can see in this pie chart, the majority of our responses were done by males. Therefore, this a gender biased sample. Because of this, we can only generalise the results to males.
Name your favourite artist(s) Evaluation: We asked ‘Who is your favourite Artist’ as this would give us a rough idea of what artist and ultimately what genre is most popular. Red Hot Chilli Peppers proved most popular, and as research had already been done on this, we know that they are considered to be an Alternative Rock band. The second most popular (based on our results) was the band Muse, who have recently released their new album, this perhaps had an impact on our results.
Out of the following types of media, which would you say you use most frequently? Evaluation: From this bar chart, we can see that the most used type of media is the internet. As we are presently living in a time of technology, this result does not surprise me. More and more teenagers use the Internet to express themselves (for example, by using FaceBook or Twitter). This is a much cheaper way of communicating with your friends and siblings. Television was the second most popular, possibly because there are some channels that enable you to watch or listen to music to anytime.
If you have the option between watching the music video or just listening to the song, would you opt for the music video? Evaluation: As you can see from this bar chart representation of whether or not someone would opt to watch the music video over listening to the music by its own. The results show us that most teenagers prefer watching music videos. Relating this to the previous question, this just proves my point of the greater frequency of teens who use the Internet to watch these music videos.
What do you usually like to see in a music video? Evaluation: Moreover, we asked the participants what sort of content they would like to see in a music video. From these results, we have tallied up and concluded that teens prefer storyline based (or narrative) music videos to other types of music videos. ‘Special Effects’ came second, and once again, this could link back to the assumption that we are presently living in a more technology based era.
Do you agree that music videos can influence people and issues? Evaluation: From these results shown in this bar chart, we can conclude that teenagers agree that music videos have an influential effect on people. Furthermore, even though believe this, most of these participants preferred watching music videos. This tells us that these teenagers do not seem to realise that they might adopt a new behaviour due to the lyrics or images in a music video. Once again, technology seems to influence our behaviours in very distinguished ways (from attention seeking through expressive means to turning to crime).
