The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
2. On what platform do you primarily watch music videos on ?
Age TV YouTube Social Media None Other
11-15 2 10 0 1 0
16-18 3 8 2 0 2
19-25 4 5 2 2 1
26+ 4 2 1 1 0
I used a sample of 50 random members of the public where I asked them
what platform do they mainly watch music videos on. In today's society we
can see majority of the public use Youtube as their main platform for
watching music videos. Especially with the young audiences aged from 11-15
they are using Youtube as their main platform for watching music videos. At
the age of 19-25 the results are more spread out as we see 4 out of 14 people
asked at that age group primarily watch music videos on the TV and 5 out of
the 14 people asked said youtube.
3. What genre of music is most likely to persuade you to watch
newly released music videos ?
Pop Rap/Grime R&B Rock EDM Other
Male 11 25 7 5 2 0
Female 25 5 14 1 3 2
In order to make this a fair sample I asked 50 Males and 50 Females at
random and from the results shown we can clearly see that half of males that
were asked said they are more likely to watch a rap/grime music video than
any other genre. Whereas the 50 females that was asked majority of them
said Pop (25) and 14 said R&B, only 5 chose Rap/Grime
According to a study on Twitter the 5 most tweeted about genres are Rap,
Rock, Pop, K-Pop and R&B world wide.
4. What type of Music video do you prefer to watch ?
Music video type People asked
Performance 21
Abstract 18
Narrative 11
From the results I have received from the members of the public I can see that
the majority of the public asked prefer to watch a Performance type of music
video (21 out of 50 asked) . The reason for this was when I asked the audience
was that it's more appealing and entertaining to watch it also ‘draws us more
into the music video’. Abstract was also very popular with 18 out of the 50
people asked chose the abstract music video type due to the fact of it being
physically appealing to watch as described by some of the general public.
5. How are you alerted of newly released music videos ?
Age Social Media Television Posters Radio Other
11-15 11 2 0 0 0
16-18 13 6 0 0 0
19-25 16 12 0 2 0
26+ 7 8 1 2 0
From the sample collected of 80 random members of the public we can clearly
see that Social Media is the most popular platform for people to find out about
newly released music videos. It is also very clear that a lot of the public we
asked do not find out about new music videos through promotional posters or
radio stations. Only 4 people used Radios to be alerted of newly released music
videos.
6. The comparison
From my results I can clearly see
that the two most popular music
genres between males and females
are POP and Rap/Grime. Females
dominant genre is POP whereas
Males more dominant genre is
Rap/Grime. We can see some Males
have still chosen Pop as there
favourite genre while some females
also listen to Rap/Grime. In this
graph I can also see that the less
popular genres among the public
we asked are Rock and EDM.
7. The comparison
We can see from this graph that the most
dominant media platform is Youtube across
majority of the age groups. The second most
popular media platform is TV. The vast majority
of 16-18 teenagers chose Youtube and the 11-15
age group also chose youtube. From these results
we can see that Youtube has become a very
popular music platform over the years, a lot of
the younger teenagers are using Youtube for their
prime way of watching music videos on. We can
see from the graph that a lot of 26+ year olds
that we asked also said they use the TV for
watching music videos on. Some of the public we
asked said they use no media platform as they
simply do not listen to music and not watch any
music videos.
8. The comparison
When asking the general public about what
type of music video you prefer to watch 42%
of the 50 people we asked said they prefer to
watch a Performance type of music video.
The second highest picked choice was
Abstract with 36%, lastly narrative received
22% of the votes. The vast majority of the
public which said ‘Performance’ chose this
type of music video due to the fact that they
find it much more entertaining and appealing
to watch.
9. The comparison
From this graph chart we can clearly
see that from the sample of 80 people
we have asked posters and radio s are
not a effective ways of advertising
newly released music videos as it does
not reach out to a lot of the public.
Majority of the public we asked use
social media to listen to newly
released music videos, in today's
generation this seems to be the most
effective ways of advertising music
videos. We can see from the graph
that up to 47 out of the 80 people we
asked across all the group ages use
social media to be alerted to new
music videos.
10. Conclusion
The sample I used for this research task was not a fair sample, in the future I
would ask more people and possibly use a sampling method such as stratified
sampling to make the sample size fairer. Overall from all the results I was able to
observe that in today's modern society most audiences firstly find out about new
music video releases from social media sites and the majority of teenagers use
Youtube as there primarily way of watching music videos. The youtube platform
seems to be dominated by younger audiences and young adults. From the sample
that I’ve asked I have also found that the most popular two videos types are
performance and abstract. Lastly the most appealing music genre for females is
Pop and for Males shown by my results the most appealing genre is Rap. I will use
these results to determine what type of music genre I will do and also for how I
will advertise and promote my music video. These results will help me know who
my target audiences are and how I can reach out to the them the most successful
way.
