We carried out Audience Research by creating a questionnaire and sending it out to participants for
them to reply.
These findings are helping us decide what to do for our music video.
The first question was asking the
audience what genres of music
they like. I found that most of the
responses were R&B, Hip-Hop,
Grime and Dance/EDM.
These are genres that are popular
in today’s society amongst the
younger audience. This shows
that we could potentially be
aiming our music video to the
younger generation.
The second question was asking
how old the participant was. This
was to find out what age group
was replying to our
questionnaire. We found that
the majority of the respondents
were 18, but they were all
teenagers.
This could justify why such young
appealing genres were chosen.
We need to take this response in
to consideration when we are
planning our music video in order to make sure that the video appeals to this age group.

The third question is a rather
important one. Males and
females tend to have different
interests compared to each
other. This means that we need
to look at what gender we are
aiming our video at.
The gender responses were
rather balanced, which means
that we are going to have to aim
our video towards a unisex
target audience.
The fourth question is used to
determine whether or not we
are going to make our music
video a narrative, performance
or even a hybrid.
When asked the question of
what type of music video
people prefer, Performance and
Hybrid were the two most
popular responses.
This means we may start
looking towards creating a hybrid music video as it involves both narrative and performance,
meaning it can appeal to a larger audience.
One important question we
asked was about the video
being in B&W or colour. A huge
majority of the answers we
that people preferred music
videos to be in colour.
This means that when we are
doing our music video we
should make sure the video is
showing colour in order to
appeal to more of a target
audience.

We needed to find out the
sources people use to listen to
music in order to find out how
we are going to appeal to more
of a target audience.
The main source we were
interested in was seeing how
many people use was YouTube,
as that meant that if people use
YouTube as that means they are
most likely watching music
videos when listening to music.
The most vital question that we
need to know most, is whether
or not people watch music
videos. From our responses we
found that the main majority of
our replies always or at least
sometimes watch music videos.
If we did not know if people
watch music videos then it
would be pointless producing
one.
Finally, when we make our
music video we want our target
audience to like the video. This
meant that we asked them how
long they feel a music video
should last.
From our findings we have
found that most feel that a
music video should last
between 3-4 minutes.
This means that this is the
length of video we should aim to produce.
