The Enterprise RTO
‘Centralised ERTOs’
(~ 48% of responses). This type of ERTO reported
that 100% of its training effort was either delivered by
dedicated trainers only, or delivered by dedicated
trainers with some minor assistance from business
unit team leaders, supervisors, and/or experienced
employees.
‘Integrated ERTOs’
(~ 43% of responses). This type of ERTO reported
that 100% of its training effort was delivered on-the-
job by 'subject matter experts‘ (i.e. business unit
team leaders, supervisors, experienced employees or
volunteers) with support as needed from dedicated
trainers.
‘Volunteer ERTOs’
(~ 9% of responses). This type of ERTO reported
that 100% of its training effort was either delivered
by volunteers only, or delivered in the major part by
volunteers supported where needed by qualified
training co-ordinators or facilitators.

  • 1. Managing an Enterprise RTO Providing High Impact Training to meet organisational needs
  • 2. • The enterprise is a legal business entity within Australia • The enterprise is registered as an RTO • The principal business of the enterprise is not training and development • The primary target population for the RTO is the employees of the enterprise The Enterprise RTO
  • 4. ‘Centralised ERTOs’ (~ 48% of responses). This type of ERTO reported that 100% of its training effort was either delivered by dedicated trainers only, or delivered by dedicated trainers with some minor assistance from business unit team leaders, supervisors, and/or experienced employees. ‘Integrated ERTOs’ (~ 43% of responses). This type of ERTO reported that 100% of its training effort was delivered on-the- job by 'subject matter experts‘ (i.e. business unit team leaders, supervisors, experienced employees or volunteers) with support as needed from dedicated trainers. ‘Volunteer ERTOs’ (~ 9% of responses). This type of ERTO reported that 100% of its training effort was either delivered by volunteers only, or delivered in the major part by volunteers supported where needed by qualified training co-ordinators or facilitators.

  1. Enterprise RTOs represent a distinct and unique component of the Australian VET sector. They differ markedly from TAFE colleges and private fee-for-service providers in their business objectives, operational environment and target populations. The primary business of an enterprise RTO is not training and development, and the RTO operation is typically embedded as a function rather than a discrete entity within the existing business operations and processes of the enterprise.
