Introduction of Moodle in Open University of Sri Lanka

This article promotes the use of Moodle as a suitable platform to support the postgraduate open and distance learning (ODL) courses offered by Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). Many USIM postgraduate students who take obligatory courses (e.g., research methodology and data analysis) are taught at different venues to facilitate students’ access to high education and enhance quality of lifelong learning. Managing this complex teaching network has called for the adaptation of Moodle platform. This approach meets two relevant requirements, (a) to ensure consistency, compliance, and quality of teaching, (b) to reduce educational costs, which largely depend on the number of peripheral venues for teaching activities. This article analyses the functionalities of Moodle platform and its use among USIM postgraduate students. The data was collected based on content analysis, one non-structured interview with the responsible of the Moodle from USIM and a questionnaire applied to 18 students. The results show that despite Moodle has a great potential, mainly used as a repository of materials. Moreover, students recognize the importance of the use of other functionalities of this platform in order to promote the success of the teaching and learning process a presentation on educational websites

Hacking the Faculty: Bringing Content Discovery Into Online Course Development

Original Proposal/Abstract: Discovering resources is easier than ever, yet barriers remain for faculty trying to embed quality content into online courses. Course development tools are silo-ed away from content discovery systems, so faculty must leave the Learning Management System (LMS) to seek articles and e-books, then navigate back to the LMS to paste the link. They need to know how to identify persistent URLs and how to enable off-campus access. The process is tedious and fraught with pitfalls. At the University of Central Florida, the Library and the Center for Distributed Learning collaborated to integrate content discovery and selection seamlessly into course creation. The result, dubbed Library Tool, is presented as a simple icon in the LMS on the page-creation form. Library Tool opens a simple search form which returns a results list of full text articles. Faculty can add any article to their page with a single click. The Tool leverages the Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) standards and EBSCO's API, which can be easily adapted by other institutions. The presenters will demonstrate the Library Tool in action and briefly describe the development process as well as an overview of the LTI standard and the EDS API. Finally, we will share preliminary usage and faculty response and will discuss options for future developments.

If so, MOOCs will not emerge in topics with more narrow appeal such as in specialized topics or in minority languages (Woruba and Abedin, 2015). This presentation will give an overview of the Erasmus+ funded Locomotion Project which between 2015 and 2017 built and delivered the MOOCs4all MOOC; “Making MOOCs on a Budget”, to disseminate techniques on how to cheaply build an open course. It will also discuss the relatively modest uptake of the MOOC and barriers, other than cost, inhibiting the creation of MOOCs and invite contributions from the audience on how these can be overcome.

This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
