Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a powerful magnetic field and radio waves to produce detailed images of the inside of the body without using ionizing radiation. It can detect cancers and other diseases earlier than other methods. MRI provides clearer images than CT scans and allows doctors to view the body in different planes without requiring surgery. Certain metal implants and objects, as well as claustrophobia or an inability to remain still, can limit its use.
