Print Prelim Evaluation
- 1. Evaluation of Print Prelim Exercise Overall, I am very happy with how my Print Prelim Exercise turned out and I will definitely be using some of the skills that I used in this exercise when it comes to creating my final product. For this task, I used Photoshop, Microsoft Word and a Nikon Camera. First of all, I went to various spots around the college to take some photographs of my model, I decided to go with having my model reading a leaflet whilst stood next to a sign located near the entrance of the college. I felt that the shot I selected looks very natural and realistic and this is down to my model fulfilling the role well and me capturing the right moment. I then uploaded my main image to Photoshop, I then added layers of text on top of the picture and I also added our college logo and thought of a simple Masthead that is relevant. The text that was placed on top of the photo is headlines that I thought of that would link to college life and which I felt suited the magazine well. I also included a Skyline, a Barcode and the College Website. As well as the main headlines, I thought of small descriptions to go along side them that didn’t give too much away about the stories – in an effort to encourage more readers. And finally, I created a flat plan of my contents page on Microsoft Word. This definitely was helpful for me because it helped me gain more of an idea of what I am going to include in my final Contents Page and how I could possibly set it out. I clearly stated what is going to go where on the page and I provided each area plenty of space in order to stand out to the reader. I felt that my strongest area in this exercise was the Photography part as I already study this subject and I am very confident when it comes to taking pictures. I would say that the area I could improve more on would be Photoshop, I have previously worked with the program using the basic features but I would like my skills within the software to be broader and in depth. I could improve these skills by following tutorials from the internet or just simply experimenting with different techniques in order to expand my skills. I think that this exercise has definitely improved my confidence with using the computers to create parts of a magazine and as a result, I am now more positive about constructing my final product.
