2. Looking back at my initial task, I feel that I have developed my knowledge of using new technologies. For example, when creating my preliminary task I had never used an Apple Mac computer for designing purposes. The main programmes I used were Photoshop and InDesign, which I had also never used before. Therefore I had to learn how to use these. Considering that I hadn’t previously used these, I feel that I have made a lot of progress during the tasks. I have utilised these new skills by altering photographs in Photoshop and creating my final product using InDesign. For example when creating my masthead for my final product, I had to use Photoshop and InDesign to alter it for use in my magazine. I had to scan a drawing into the computer, using Photoshop, which I then had to alter so that it looked good enough to use in my magazine. I then had to save the image and alter it in InDesign so that I was able to use it in my final product. Without learning how to use these programmes, I would not have been able to create most of the elements of my final product. Throughout the tasks, I have conducted a lot of research that gave me an insight into how magazines are produced. I used this to my advantage when creating my full product, by using the techniques that are used in magazines such as NME and Kerrang! I have also learnt about the photographs used in magazines, for example camera angles, who is in the photograph etc. I found this useful when selecting the photographs to use on my final product. Initially I took around 50 photographs and had to choose the best ones to use in my product. I chose the ones that would relate best to my target audience. I have also used my knowledge of audience theory to make sure that my magazine appeals to its target audience.
