1. Magazine Analysis Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Magazine Analysis" presents a unique set of challenges,
demanding a nuanced approach that delves into the intricacies of magazine publication, design,
content, and audience engagement. Such an essay requires meticulous attention to detail and a
keen analytical eye to dissect various elements within the chosen magazine.
Firstly, one must select a magazine that offers ample material for analysis. The magazine should
ideally represent a distinct genre or niche within the publishing industry, whether it's fashion,
lifestyle, politics, or entertainment. Selecting the right magazine is crucial, as it forms the
foundation upon which the entire analysis rests.
Next comes the task of dissecting the magazine's layout, design elements, and visual aesthetics.
This involves scrutinizing the cover design, typography, color schemes, and imagery to discern
patterns, themes, and branding strategies employed by the publication. Understanding the visual
language of the magazine is essential for unraveling its intended message and target audience.
Beyond aesthetics, the essay must delve into the editorial content of the magazine, including
feature articles, interviews, opinion pieces, and advertisements. Analyzing the tone, style, and
substance of written content sheds light on the magazine's editorial priorities, values, and
ideological leanings. Moreover, examining the advertisements featured within the magazine
provides insights into its commercial partnerships, revenue model, and audience demographics.
Furthermore, a comprehensive analysis should consider the magazine's digital presence and
engagement strategies across various social media platforms and online channels. In an
increasingly digital landscape, understanding how magazines leverage online platforms to extend
their reach and foster reader engagement is paramount.
However, navigating through the myriad of elements within a magazine and synthesizing them
into a cohesive analysis is no easy feat. It requires critical thinking, research skills, and the ability
to discern meaningful patterns amidst the noise of visual and textual stimuli.
In conclusion, while writing a magazine analysis essay may be challenging, it offers a rewarding
opportunity to explore the intersection of design, content, and audience reception within the
realm of contemporary media. By unraveling the layers of meaning embedded within a
magazine, one gains valuable insights into the evolving landscape of publishing and
communication.

2. The Simple Linear Regression Model
PURPOSE
This report will discuss the simple linear regression model; throughout two variables,
the predictor variable (independent) and one response variable (dependent) will be
used to explain the models. In so doing, it explains the underlying assumptions when
fitting both variables into models and statistical tools.
In addition to findings from statistical analyses, this report communicates in clear
terms the significance of data on the retention rate (%) and the graduation rate (%)
for the sample of 29 online colleges in the United States. With this said, Section 3
Results presents graphical illustrations and a scatter diagram on this relationship
between the variables while Section 4 discusses the implications .
BACKGROUND
As a background for this report, the Online Education Database records that in recent
times, online universities have experienced rapid growth. However, this presents
some challenges to the higher education sector. In order to examine the relationship
between retention rate which is denoted by RR% and graduation rate; GR% for 29
online colleges.
METHOD
As a starting point, in order to determine the relationship between retention rate (RR
%) and the graduation rate (GR %), variables were run through the Data Analysis add
in tool on Microsoft Excel 2013. In all, the twenty nine (29) observations showed
descriptive statistics and simple linear regression results. Following this, a scatter
diagram was plotted to illustrate the linear relationship
3. How Marketers And Media Companies View You
How Marketers and Media Companies View You Shaunna L. Roth University of
Missouri St. Louis September 10, 2016 ABSTRACT Convergence in media is
extremely important. (1) Media convergence is the flow of content across multiple
media platforms. (2) There are three elements for convergence to occur in mass
media; corporations, content and computers. Media companies and marketers target
and segment their audience. Psychographics plays a role in audience segmentation.
In order for the consumer to be reached the media companies must be able (3) to

Marketers and media companies target their audience based on how they view them.

4. Pros And Cons Of Doctor Faustus
The idea of selling your soul to the devil for knowledge has been around for as long
as Doctor Faustus. Christopher Marlowe s play dealt with this controversial topic in
1590 s. The story of Doctor Faustus is just as relevent today as it was hundreds of
years ago. This paper will be a study of the pros and cons of the idea of selling your
soul to the devil.
Doctor Faustus was a well respected scholar; he was bored of and not happy with
traditional forms of knowledge like logic, medicine, law, and religion. He wanted to
learn magic so two of his friends promised to teach him the secrets of black magic.
The first thing he did was summon Mephasthophilis, one of Lucifer s servants.
Since Doctor Faustus had great ambitions he told Mephasthophilis to go back to
Lucifer so he could strike a deal with the devil to learn everything in the world. For
twenty four years of service from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is evidence to support both. For example in the essay by Elizabeth Poole she
discusses his original goal that starts all this. His ambition to know and see things
that no other human has seen before is considered highly romantic. The way he
handles himself after making the deal is the tragedy. Sadly he is presented with
several chances to repent but he refuses. Ms. Poole discusses his denial of God and
his wish for knowledge and control over nature. In Act 2 Scene 1, pg 16 19 he is
confronted by opposing angels good and bad. Faustus says : Contrition, Prayer,
repentance what of these? the good angel replies: O, they are means to bring thee
unto heaven. the bad angel says: Rather illusions, fruits of lunacy. That make them
foolish that do use the most. Faustus chooses not to believe he can save his

6. Al Dunlap and Sunbeam
DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTANCY
UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS
MEMORANDUM
DATE:September 14, 2011
SUBJECT:Al Dunlap at Sunbeam analysis
Introduction
This memo will reflect on and analyze the decisions of the Sunbeam Board of
Directors during Albert Dunlap s tenure as CEO. This analysis will include an
overview of Sunbeam s goals, evaluation of 1996 1997 and 1998 compensation
package, assessment of the firing decision by BOD and the overall governance of the
BOD.
Sunbeam s Goals

he has employed: For much of his career before coming to Sunbeam, Al Dunlap was

Evaluation of Dunlap s compensation package
The first compensation package offered to Dunlap (the 1996 1997 compensation
package) was well designed in the consideration of merely improving the stock
prices and the company s market value in the short term. It consists of a salary of
507,054, no bonus but well over 16 millions in stock options. The package design
was obviously shortsighted and focused primarily on the profits and share value as
expected and lacked incentive to create long term value. The company s other
values, such as culture, employees and customers had absolutely no value in this
model. Furthermore, the package even encouraged Dunlap to forego long term
initiatives at the expense of employee s benefits and the company s social
responsibility and long term profitability in order to drive up the stock price.
The second compensation package doubled his salary to 1 million and increased
his stock options as well. It was unnecessary and excessive as his performance was
already tied to the huge amount of stock he already owned. The new contract is
even more absurd: 2 million in salary and additional stocks, as Graef Crystal
compensation consultant commented, He likes to portray himself as swashbuckling
CEO, but real men don t take $2 million salaries and lot s of free stock. He s a pay
wimp, when it comes down to it. Although Dunlap rationale suggested, You can t

7. The Benefits of Propolis
Use of natural products, especially nutraceuticals is gaining much importance in
aquaculture practices for controlling the diseases, since they can be easily
incorporated into the diet along with a low impact on the environment. Among
many different nutraceuticals, propolis has drawn the attention of the researchers
as it has several biological and pharmacological properties. Propolis is a dark brown,
resinous material collected by bees from exudates and buds of flowers, mixed with
beeswax and ОІ gucosidase (Pietta et al., 2002). The word propolis (from Greek,
pro = for or in defence, and polis = city) shows its importance to bees, since they
use it to seal holes in the hives to protect the colony from infection and to cover
carcasses of intruders who die inside the hive, avoiding their decomposition
(Bankova et al., 2000 and Sforcin et al., 2011). Propolis has been used as medicine
due to its diverse biological and pharmacological properties such as
immunomodulatory, antitumor, antimicrobial, anti inflammatory, antioxidant etc.
(Bankova et al., 2000). Its chemical composition includes more than 200
constituents (Marcucci, 1995) for which its biological properties are diverse.
Propolis generally consists of 50% vegetable balsams and resins, 30% wax, 10%
essential oils, 5% pollen and 5% various other substances (Burdock, 1998). The major
constituents of propolis are flavones, flavanones, cinnamic acid, diterpenic acid,
polyprenylated benzophenones, caffeic acid esters,
8. Symbolism In Keats s Ode To A Nightingale
Torn between two worlds, Keats battled his own personal life between his
engagement to Fanny Browne and the death of his brother. Also the poem was
written approximately two years before he died. These life changing events resulted
in Keats writing one of his most famous poems, Ode to a Nightingale. This poem is
an escape from reality in trying to find a happy place such as the singing of the
Nightingale(Fiero 9). The poem is a parallel to Keats thoughts and desires, which are
directly connected to his reasoning for writing the poem, its connections to
understanding nature as well as its reflection of the human consciousnessand natural
environment.
Ironically the bird in the poem is used as a symbol, whereas the bird that inspired the
poem was a real living creature. According to ... Show more content on

One of the themes in Keats poem Ode to a Nightingale is reality verses imaginary
(Melani). In the beginning of the poem, the bird is tangible, allowing Keats to hear
its pleasant song. As the poem develops the bird becomes a symbol. The bird can
represent joy, self expressions and nature s music. One concern in the poem is Keats
analysis on the divided nature of humans. This includes mixed feelings of pain verses
happiness, feeling verses dullness, real verses ideal and mortal verses immortal. As
the poem continues to build on emotion based on human nature, the reader is able to
draw conclusions and different abstractions (Melani). In this poem there is an
overpowering theme directly related to romanticism, the bird representing nature and
immortality while on the flip side Keats representing a worldly state of mind trying to
capture the essence of the nightingale by listening to the song. Art is more than a
response to the human experience of love and nature; it is the transmuted product of
the imagination, a higher form of nature that triumphantly outreaches the mortal
lifespan (Fiero

Are Prozac and similar antidepressants safe and effective for children and
adolescents?
Approximately ten percent of our youth suffer from a deppresive/anxiety disorder.
The youth of our society are being treated with anti depressants such as prozac;
which, carry a black box warning. The FDA has required that boxed warnings be
placed on all antidepressant medications warning they may result in increased risk
of suicidal tendencies in children, and young adults aged 18 24 years old. The
black box warning is the highest warning that can labeled on any medication. It
means there has been significant research completed to show a legitimate concern
for the well being of the population who is prescribed the medication. It is
scientifically proven that children s bodies do not absorb and process drugs the
same way that a fully grown adult can, and their brains may critically be affected
as well. Society, parents, doctors and adolescence themselves are forced to make;
what could be, a life changing decision on whether to medicate with the potential for
disaster or not medicate and allow the child to continue suffering from a
psychological disorder. It is clear that both the risks of medicating and not
medicating are suggestively the greatest during the early years of life. The question
that arises is whether we should or shouldn t take the risk. A child s response to a
medication cannot be determined with one hundred percent certainty. It is very
difficult to isolate

In the case of the Federal Communications Commission vs. Fox Television Stations
Inc., I will discuss the background and the role of the FCC in the United States, the
history of Fox Television Stations Inc. and analyze the arguments of both sides.
Based on those arguments I will answer the question did the Supreme Court get it
right on the decision of this case. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
was created when Congress passed the Communications Act in 1934 which abolished
the Federal Radio Commission and transferred jurisdiction of radio licensing to the
Federal Communications Commission. This also included the telecommunications
jurisdiction which was previously handled by the Interstate Commerce Commission.

After the Metromedia deal was made Murdoch purchased Davis s shares and News
Corporation assumed complete control of 20th Century Fox. Initially Fox Television
Station was a semi autonomous unit in which News Corporation owned over 99
percent of the equity, but only 24 percent of the voting power. The balance was held
personally by Murdoch. During this particular era the Federal Communications
Commission regulations stated it prohibited foreign interests or non American
citizens from controlling more than 25 percent of an FCC licensed broadcast station.
Though News Corporation was still based in Australia Murdoch became a
naturalized U.S. citizen in 1985 and the transfer of majority voting to Murdoch was
now sufficient (http://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_Television_Stations). As of
today, Rupert Murdoch is still the chairman and controlling shareholder of News
Corporation and believes that all forms of media should not be free during this era
of global media empires (http://topics.nytimes.com). The main concern of this case
was the adequacy of the Federal Communications Commission s explanation of its
decision that it sometimes forbids broadcasting of indecent expletives even when the
offensive words are not repeated and if the FCC has the power to punish the station
for the vulgarity (FCC v. Fox, 2009, p. 1). The broadcasting stationed believed this

11. Graham Ryan s Synchro Summary
According to the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) statistics, seventy four
percent of the world s fisheries are either depleted, over exploited, or fully exploited.
This means that in a few decades the world will be dependent on aquaculture to raise
seafood. Aquaculture has been going on for many years now and globally, aquaculture
provides more that 50 percent of all seafood produced for human consumption and
soon enough that percentage will rise. There are people who are skeptical about the
safety of aquaculture. This had led to numerous amounts of articles being published
warning people of the dangers of aquaculture and also articles that encourages people
to be socially accepting of it.
Graham Ryan is the lead writer and founder of the website Synchro . He created
Synchro in 2011 and he aimed for it to be a comprehensive and relentlessly
innovative system for realizing what we call true health a state in which the body and

I think that he attempted to acknowledge opposing views, but he didn t do it in an
effective way. This shows that the structure of his argument is flawed. He should
have moved this section of the article until after he talked about his article s main
topic, which is Why we should never eat farm raised fish. This could confuse the
audience and it showed that he isn t firm in his position. Despite this, Ryan did a
good job of defining his terms when he talked about the different chemicals found
in wild caught fish, such as Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB s) and Heavy metals.
Ryan talks about how these are very problematic but these toxins are found in wild
caught fish. This hurts his argument because he tells us that PCB s haven t been
used in the developed world since the 1970 s (7) so we can infer that it definitely isn t

Chipotle Mexican Grill is a fast casual restaurant chain that has locations in five
countries. It was founded as a single location in 1993 by Steve Ells. Since then it
has grown tremendously to have over two thousand locations. It is one of the most
successful fast casual restaurants ever in the services sector of the S P 500 with
earnings over $475,602,000 in 2015, despite some bad media attention. Overall,
Chipotle Mexican Grillis a strong company as of 2015. From 2013 to 2015 Chipotle
Mexican Grill (CMG) has grown significantly. Its total assets have increased by
35%, and its revenue has increased from $3,214,591,000 to $4,501,223,000. That
is an increase of 40%. In addition, CMG opened over 400 new restaurants in that
time period. All of that combined shows that CMG is growing very fast. That
growth is great as long as CMG s management is cautious about how its financing
the growth. When a company is growing so fast, it is a good idea to look at how it
is paying for the growth. A good way to do that is by looking at the current ratio
because it shows assets compared to liabilities. CMG s current ratio over this time
period has varied a good bit: 2013 = 3.34, 2014 = 3.5, and 2015 = 2.91. What
stands out in that is the decrease in 2015 which could indicate issues with the
company. However, after looking more in depth, it can be seen that this decrease is
most likely related to the company s fast growth in that year and its need to finance
the growth. In addition, CMG s

The female characters portrayed in Aeschylus and Sophocles works have
considerably different personalities and roles, yet those females all have the common
weaknesses of being short sighted and stubborn. They intensify the conflicts within
their families while being inconsiderate of the impacts that they may bring to their
nations and societies, which leads to consequences that they are incapable of taking
responsibilities for. Clytemnestra and Antigone, two major characters in their
respective author s works, possess different motivations for their deeds in the stories.

Agamemnon, Antigone acts against Creons will and strives to properly bury her

III. Current Policy Description. Current Policy Effectiveness and Efficiency
According to the Preliminary Problem Analysis prepared by the Junior Policy
Analyst of the Community Transportation Planning Division of SDOT M. Ubahn at
the moment East Wallingford is served by two state highways. Route 146
(Nottingham Road), a north south arterial, passes through the western side of the
city. Route 9, an east west arterial, passes through the center of East Wallingford,
and connects to Route 146, which is its Western terminus. In the central business
district, Route 9 is actually divided for 1.5 miles to allow for one way traffic flows.
Route 9E is known as State Street; Route 9W is known as Main Street. Three miles
south of the central business district on Route 146 is an interchange for Interstate 59.
Traffic flows are unacceptably heavy on Route 146 and on Main (Route 9W) and
State (Route 9E) Streets. During peak travel hours (7:30 AM to 9:30 AM and 4:00
PM to 6:00 PM), average trip times are far below State standards for a community
of this size. Trips between point A and point B in either direction, a distance of 4.5
miles, require 30 minutes on average.
City officials want average trip time in this corridor to be reduced to 15 minutes.
While this seems to be a reasonable goal, application of SDOT standards in this case
suggests it should be seen as a target, rather than as an absolute cutoff.

Measles (also known as rubeola or red measles ) is an acute, febrile viral infection
that was a very familiar childhood infection world wide until the introduction of an
attenuated live virus vaccine in the 1960 s. Now it is rarely seen in the United
States and the rest of the medically developed world, re emerging usually only when

The Invention of the Telephone and How It Has Changed Over the Years About
100 years ago, Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone by accident with his
assistant Mr. Watson. Over many years, the modern version of the telephone makes
the one that Bell invented look like a piece of junk. Developments in tone dialing,
call tracing, music on hold, and electronic ringers have greatly changed the
telephone. This marvelous invention allows us to communicate with the entire
globe 24 hours a day just by punching in a simple telephone number. It is the most
used piece of electronic apparatus in the world. It is probably one of the most easy to
use electronics available too. All you have to do is pick up the receiver,... Show more

TELEPHONE NETWORKS If you have ever opened up a phone (do not try this at
home, you might screw it up) you will probably see a PC (printed circuit) board.
The board contains the needed electronics for the phone to work properly. In older
models of a working telephone, this board may look like an electronic box. This
board is called the telephone network. The telephone network s function is to
provide all the necessary components and termination points (screw on or push on
terminals). The components and the termination points connect and match the
impedance of a handset (transmitter and receiver) to a two wire telephone circuit.
Every component in the telephone has to be connected to the PC board. Usually,
the board is the most reliable component inside the phone. All the delicate
components are securely sealed by a metal enclosure. The PC board is a very fragile
object and can be broken easily. If you look closely, you can see wires poking out
of the board. The wires are soldered to the terminal legs. If you break one of those
wires, man are you dead! TELEPHONE HOOK SWITCH Every time you talk over
a line, you always need to disconnect. The most simple thing to do is to let the
handset sit down. While sitting down, the handset can give force to a spring loaded

Tonio...
Introduction The literary characters of Meursault and Tonio Kroeger are likely
depicted as outsiders in the novels The Stranger by Albert Camus and Tonio Kroeger
by Thomas Mann. The novels can both be described as existentialist investigations.
Existentialism seeks to investigate the relationship between individuals and the
society, the meaning of life, and the unavoidable conflicts in interpersonal
relationships among other inquisitions. Existentialismis evident in the two novels
under review as the characters are treated as outsiders.
Albert Camus The Stranger The two lead characters namely Meursault and Tonio
Kroeger demonstrate the concept of the outsiders. In The Stranger, Meursault is
depicted as an outsider both in himself as well as the society as owing to his
criminal tendencies as he battles to show emotions and link with realities regarding
his life. Meursault is depicted as much disconnected to the current world and life
either emotionally or socially. For instance, the opening scene shows how Meursault
reacts to his mother s death. His lack of remorse and loss is both salient and borders
on the pathological. By falling asleep during his mother s funeral, the action
demonstrates the lack of feelings and social competence which children are usually
expected to show to their parents. Furthermore, he consents to marry Marie, his
girlfriend just after she thinks that it would be an excellent move, and individuals
who have a passionate relationship must

There is no point in stress and we are always there to remind each other of that. We

Nationalism is the strong belief that the interests of a particular nation state is of
primary importance. It also is the belief that a people who share a common language,
history, and culture should have an independent nation. Nationalism is shown in
many ways throughout World War I, the Interwar Years, and World War II. It is
shown in nationalists groups such as the KMT, through new ideas such as Nazism or

27. Explain Why Is Australia Unique
Being occupied by humans for over 40 000 years, Australia is seen as one of the
oldest continents in the world. Australia is viewed as one of the most physically
unique places in the world. The ways in which that Australia is perceived as unique is
through her size, location, fauna, flora and landforms.
Firstly a factor making Australia physically unique is it s size and how it compares
to the other countries and continents in the world. Australia is one of the world s
smallest continents in the world. A way that shows Australia as one of the smallest
continents is that it has a land mass of only 7682 square kilometres and is slightly
smaller than the USA. Another reason why Australia is one of the smallest
continents is because it 33% the size of Russia meaning that approximately three
Australians can fit into Russia. Therefore, it is evidently clear that Australia is
physically unique because of it s small size as it is almost the size of the United States
and is three times smaller than Russia.
Furthermore, even though Australia is viewed physically unique because ... Show

The landforms in Australia were formed over millions of years as the result of
weathering, mass movement, erosion and deposition which are the causes of why
Australia is very flat. An example of a landform that is the result of these natural
causes is The Great Dividing Range which is a mountain range that stretches over
three states and is the third largest mountain range in the world. Australia is known to
be the flattest continent in the world with minimal elevations compared to the higher
elevated continents like Asia. Australia s highest mountain Mt Kosciuszko which is
approximately four times smaller than the world s tallest mountain Mt Everest

in the 19th century and was one of the major contributors to the Aesthetic
movement. He was a spokesperson for aestheticism. He tried his hand at various
literary activities. He was an Irish playwright, novelist, essayist and poet. He refined
his ideas about the importance of art in a series of dialogues and essays, and
incorporated themes of duplicity, beauty and decadence. He incorporated all these
vital characteristics that define the supremacy of art into his only novel The Picture
of Dorian graywritten in 1890. This novel bore the true essence of what an aesthetic

The portrayal of women, as nothing more than props; as household decorations
and people of leisure and entertainment without any intellect or wit calls to question
of how Wilde s views of women are. It has been conjectured that the reason for this
apathy for women characterization is due to his sexual orientation. He being a
homosexual brings about the idea that he doesn t want a female character with a
decent role or to ever be in the position to ever sexualize a female character. The
Character Henry Wotton is a very powerful and dominant character. He is an
intelligent man and never lets up a moment to propagate his hedonistic and
misogynistic viewpoints. It is believed that Lord Henry is the mouthpiece that
Wilde uses to voice his own views and opinions. So, we can, to some extent,
associate Lord Henry to Wilde and question his viewpoints on people and society.
One of his quotes extracted from the novel illustrates how he talks about women
My dear boy, no woman is a genius. Women are a decorative sex. They never have

over mind, just as men represent the triumph of mind over morals (4.9)

Soul Surfer is based on a true story, the movie itself is only semi accurate, as
demonstrated by character, plot, and special effects. Although Soul Surfer is mostly

example of character inaccuracy is present when Bethany first gets home from the

duties in order to establish freedom and to create equality under the law. While
modern day laws presumably work to ensure liberty and equality, there is a

Sally Merry s experience at the UN revolves around a culture of human rights that is

Non accidental injuries in children
Non accidental injuries (NAIs) are any form of physical injury where there is
definite knowledge or reasonable suspicion that the injury was purposefully inflicted
on the patient. In NAIs found in children (NAICs), the first step of investigation is to
check any person having custody, charge or care of the child. More commonly
known as physical child abuse, the most common injuries suffered by NAIC patients
are frequent unexplained cutaneous injuries such as bruises, burns or contusions
which they tend to be unwilling to show to others, the next most common are
fractures. Children suffering NAICs also tend to have psychological symptoms such
as depression or outbursts and are cautious around people, avoid touch, and flinching
at sudden movements. Very few children suffering NAICs will tell anyone about
them and usually feel guilty, confused or humiliated. If a health care professional
notices these signs and suspects child abuse, they should refer the child to a radiology
clinic.
Although skeletal injuries are rarely viewed as a possible cause of death in abused
children, they are the strongest indicators of NAICs. In children younger than 1
year of age, certain radiological anomalies are sufficiently unique to confirm a
diagnosis of afflicted injury in the absence of other information. In all cases of
suspected NAICs in children younger than 2 years old, a skeletal survey is critical. In
children over 5 years old, a skeletal survey is of

do not isolate the content of the message that is being presented, but I listen to
every aspect and detail of what is being said. Two of my weaknesses, were that

35. Criticism Of Praise Praise
Praise is an action that parents, teachers, and adults overly use when they desire an
action from students and children. Most of the time, adults say phrases such as
Good Job or Fantastic to boost the moral of students or children. But praise doesn t
always lead to positive growth of an individual in the long run. There is, however, a
stronger alternative to praisethat many 21st century Western societies haven t quite
accepted. This is known as criticism. We see criticism everywhere in our daily lives;
from the workplace, to sporting events and competitions, and even in schools across
America. It s a lot stronger than praise because it provides students with a basis of
comparison, and truth and honesty. Therefore, criticism has a betterlong term effect
on feedback and growth and should be balanced with praise because it allows
students to learn from previous mistakes or issues, forcing them to make a positive
change about themselves that could potentially help in the future. There are many
problems that appear with the use of general praise on its own. For one, praise feeds
into the ego of a student, forcing them into a lazy mindset from the overflow of
approval. Carol Dweck, a theorist of human motivation, believes that praising traits
feed the belief that talent is fixed, which makes kids less willing to take on new
challenges that might expose them as less naturally able (Kamenetz). With praise, the
child will be less determined to take risks and complete

technique in which a kid learns to make use of the toilet appropriately. As in lots of
areas of kid development, kids must reach a positive age or be in the proper setting
or situation before they are prepared to learn. Kids are prepared to learn when they
are healthy, well nourished, and not pressured to accomplish at a level above their
capability. Toilet learning usually is initiated in early childhood, which in itself can

39. How Does Television Affect American Culture
Television is a persuasive intermediate of mass communication. Today it has been
argued that television does an unsubstantial job of portraying race and ethnicity. The
current programming and advertising shown on television today, advances one s
ethnocentric view of American culture, and validates many existing racial stereotypes.
After researching how viewers are affected by what they watch on television, I agree,
television misrepresents other cultures around the world. Ethnocentrism is believing
in the superiority of one s ethnic group. This causes people from one ethnic group to
look down on others from other ethnic backgrounds. Ethnocentrism comes into play
when we view others ways of living as wrong rather than as different. The reasons ...

Some believe television enables us to share our cultural experiences with one
another. It is believed that cultural programming can open the world of art and
music to our children and young adults. Television can also act as a catalyst for
children s socialization and learning skills. News, current events, and historical
programming keeps us aware of other cultures and people. Documentaries are
another source that aid in the development of critical thinking about society and the
world around us. Some believe that we all have control over which programs we
choose to watch. I agree, we should stop and ask ourselves if the show we are
watching best represents diversity. According to the Critical Media Project (2017),
Media creates meaning about race and ethnicity, and plays an important role in
shaping the way we understand race and ethnicity as part of our identity, our history,
our social institutions, and our everyday lives .
Ethnocentrism and the issue of race and ethnicity are important concepts to focus
your attention on while watching the media. Today, many races are misrepresented in

their own identities and the world around them. Although, we may not notice the
effect that television has on our attitudes, subconsciously we pick up certain attitudes

Puritans in New England, during the 1600 s in a small Puritan town. In his novel,
The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne uses symbolism of The Scarlet Letter, Pearl

Scarlet Letter to symbolize sin. Hester is the main character in the story, she wears

The Scarlet Letter is a reminder to her and the rest of society for what she has

the daughter of Hester Prynne and Dimmesdale, she has a very strange nature to
her because she was born into darkness, she was bought at a great price. She was
made like a real pearl, being made from extreme darkness and pressure, hence the
name Pearl. In the beginning of the story around when she was first brought out of
the prison at the age of around 3 months, Hawthorne says, ... had brought it
acquainted only with the gray twilight of a dungeon, or other darksome apartment
of the prison. (Hawthorne 50). Hawthorne said this because Hester had Pearl in the
prison, which means that Pearl was born into darkness. Nevertheless this contributes
to the theme of Pearl because she is considered a token of shame because Hester
committed adultery to have her. Over time Hester sees a change in Pearl as she gets
older and is worried about how she is changing and how her nature is transfiguring.
Hawthorne says, Day after day, she looked fearfully in the child s expanding nature...

NFL Fining Players Imagine a person fresh out of college getting fined thousands

even breaking the law. Players are breaking the rules in the NFL and get fined. The
reason behind all of this is to keep a fair game between the franchises. Yet these
people make thousands and thousands of dollars anyways. Does fining even make a
difference to them anyways? Some say the NFL fining its players is a good thing. In
the NFL there are many things that can cause a fine to a player. According to Jason
Plautz players in the NFL can get fines for simply changing the color of their shoes
(Mental Floss). Excessive celebration is a common way to get fined usually in the
endzone. Only certain celebrations that would include fans or messing with the
pylons and actions along those lines can result in a fine to a player. Also making
contact with a referee in any way, which can be known in some cases as
unsportsmanlike conduct will cause a fine in the direction of that player.
Punching and kicking a player from the opposing team will get a player fined. In
some cases tackling the quarterback after he has thrown the ball is illegal and the
NFL will fine the player, and also late hits and cut blocking are illegal. The
interesting thing is a player can avoid a fine, if there is no penalty flag thrown
because of their actions. In the NFL there have been fines

aspect of our relationship, being able to speak in this language allowed my patient
to freely talk to me without difficulty. Our relationship was like a book, as each
time I spoke with him about something new, I would be turning to a new page with
a different passage being read. Each of these pages are read in Spanish, as I spoke

The reflections allowed me to evaluate why my patient was admitted and find
supporting facts for their diagnosis. I helped me see many different connections of
how one thing in patient s condition can affect something else. Though the clinical
reflections were long, but I do believe that they helped me a lot in understanding

DAT score ranges from 705 720; the important part on what a DAT shows is the
