2. INTRODUCTION
Lungs are a pair of muscular respiratory organs that
facilitates gaseous exchange . Right and left lung are
separated by the mediastinum.
Shape: conical
Colour : in young :Brown
in adults :Molten black
Weight: Right : 700 g
Left : 600-650g
Capacity: 6L
4. EXTERNAL FEATURES
• Apex
• Base
• 3 Borders: Anterior
Posterior
Inferior
• 2 Surfaces: Costal
Medial (divided into vertebral and mediastinal parts)
5. FISSURES AND LOBES
RIGHT LUNG: 3 Lobes divided by 2 fissures
- Upper -Oblique
-Middle -Horizontal
-Lower
LEFT LUNG: 2 Lobes divided by the oblique fissure.

7. ROOT OF LUNG
Connects medial surface of the lung to the mediastinum.
Lie opposite the bodies of 5th , 6th and 7th vertebrae.
CONTENTS:
• Principal bronchus -left side; eparterial and hyparterial bronchi - right side in posterior part
• 1 pulmonary artery -middle part.
• 2 pulmonary veins( superior and inferior) - anterior part
• Bronchial arteries: Rt.- 1; Lft- 2
• Bronchial veins
• Anterior and posterior pulmonary plexuses of nerves
• Lymphatics of the lung
• Bronchopulmonary lymph nodes
• Areolar tissue
